Talk about jaw dropping gorgeous! Elizabeth and Connor’s wedding day vision was incredible. It makes it even more special that I got to hear the plans develop during the planning process while Elizabeth and I were nursing school together. I was beyond excited when she told me her wedding would take place at The Barn on New River in the little mountain town of West Jefferson, NC. The views were incredible! And OH MY DAHLIAS! Their florist grows the most incredible dinnerplate dahlias I’ve seen to date. They were the size of my head! I could go on and on about all of the fabulous details and their amazing family but what’s most important is that Elizabeth and Connor are so great together. He is the ying to her yang. It’s so cliquè but they really do complete each other! Their wedding day was nothing but beauty. I am so honored to have been a part of their day. Congratulations guys!
What was the most important thing to you when planning your wedding?
The most important thing about planning our wedding was keeping in mind our friends and family! I had a vision, and we made choices that would let the vision shine through as well as create a day our guests would enjoy as much as us!
How does he make you a better person? I'm passionate as well as introverted, and Connor is even keeled and extroverted. He makes me a better person because he knows exactly how to balance me, while letting me be me! He knows what I want in life and not only supports my dreams, but challenges me every day to reach for them! Not to mention he also loves my childlike side as much as my grown-up side, and having someone be able to love and cherish both makes me the best I can be!
What was your favorite wedding detail? My favorite wedding detail was hands-down our flowers. Millefleurs went above and beyond! I was so excited the day of the wedding, but as the flowers started arriving, I found myself getting teary! They were so gorgeous and exactly what I wanted, and nothing says a wedding like flowers- it was the first thing of the day that made it sink in how truly special this day was! A close second was all the personal touches we added, like having our cocktail hour hors d'oeurves based on our hometowns and how we met, the fact the we got to serve communion to our guests, and the pictures of our grandparents who've passed away.
When you think about your future together, what is the thing you look forward to most? I look forward to all the new firsts! Connor and I have already been together for five years, so I feel like we already have a great foundation laid. Now we're setting up our first home together and are looking forward to our first holiday season! In the future we'll get to celebrate our first anniversary, adopt our first pet, buy our first house, have our first child, and many more! These will all allow us to keep our relationship growing and deepening forever!
When have you been most proud of him? I have so much to be proud of Connor for, I can't pick just one! I am proud of him for his career- He works so hard, is so smart and talented at what he does, and all his co-workers request to work with him and enjoy doing so! I am proud of him for everything he does at home, including stepping up and learning to cook a little so he can have dinner waiting when I come home from a long shift. And I'm also proud of him for being an awesome and genuine person- I love him obviously, but every in his life is drawn to him and he goes out of his way to do things for others and keep up with those he loves!
What was your favorite moment on your wedding day? There were so many great moments! I loved getting ready with my bridesmaids, I loved my dance with my dad (who really brought the moves!), but I think the thing I had always looked forward to and was better than I could have imagined was walking down the aisle! Connor teared up (which he almost NEVER does) which really got me- the fact that he was moved by me walking down the aisle on our wedding meant so much to me that I of course got teary in return!
Did everything go as planned? If not, how did you make the best of it and why did you choose to do it that way? Not everything went according to plan, but on the day of, they were only small things. Because we had a day-of coordinator, I didn't know about most of them until later, but by then, they didn't even matter. The big things went according to plan, so at the end of the day what really mattered was that we were married and had a blast on the best day ever!
What advice can you give other couples planning their wedding? I would say prioritize! I know that is a very nurse thing of me to say- I do it constantly in my job- but it's true. When you decide what is most important to you and your partner and maybe your families if they are involved, you can make compromises other places. Sticking to a budget is hard, but when you have priorities, you know how to plan accordingly! Likewise, there is no such thing as a perfect wedding day- everyone told me this and I didn't believe it. But accepting it will make you much more at ease in the end of little details don't go perfectly!
Did you do a first look? If so, why and would you recommend it to other couples? We did, and I would absolutely recommend it to others! It allowed our day to run more smoothly, and it was the best possible thing for my nerves! I was so nervous for Connor to see me in my dress (which he claims was treated like a national secret!) and having the time to see each other and talk just the two of us made all the nerves go away and only excitement take its place!
A big thanks to the amazing vendor team.
