Japanese Maple Tree at Historic House
Location: Yamashitacho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan Timestamp: 15:11 April 4, 2023
This is a photo of a Japanese maple tree captured at Berrick Hall, a registered historical building located in Yokohama that was built in 1930.
Japanese maple trees (紅葉 / momiji) have various types, and this one might be a "green cascade" Japanese maple, which has a drooping form that would need some support structure as it grows larger. During autumn, its leaves transform into vibrant shades of red and orange.
The estate of this mansion, which is quite sizable by Japanese standards, boasts flowering plants and trees, as well as a grassy area that serves as an ideal location for outdoor wedding ceremonies. The mansion's backdrop provides a picturesque setting for wedding photos and creates an atmosphere that feels like the wedding is taking place in a foreign country.
The mansion belonged to Bertram Berrick, a British trading merchant, whose company imported cosmetics, fragrance, paper, and stationery to Japan, while exporting Japanese paper, silk, and lacquer goods to England. Due to the increasing threat of World War II, Berrick left the house in 1938 and immigrated to Canada.

Historic Spanish-Style Mansion from 1930
Location: Yamashitacho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan Timestamp: 15:11 April 4, 2023
Berrick Hall, a registered historical building in Yokohama, was designed by American architect J.H. Morgan in 1930 as the residence of British trader B.R. Berwick. It is built in a distinctive Spanish style and features small quatrefoil windows and a tiled roof with a chimney. It was the largest residence in the pre-war district of Yamate, known for being a foreign residential area.
After being used as a residence until the start of World War II, it was donated to the Catholic Society of Mary in 1956 and was used as a dormitory for St. Joseph International School until 2000. Today, it is open to the public and is a popular wedding venue. The interior features black-and-white checkered tiles, frescoes on the walls, and lovely ironwork on the entryway and stairs.
Berrick Hall has many highlights, including a unique sunroom furnished with a lion-masked wall fountain and a women's bedroom sunroom with glimpses of the Yokohama Port. In 2001, the city of Yokohama purchased the site, and after restoration and repair work, the building and garden have been open to the public since 2002.

Perjalanan Jepang 2018 (PART 4)
PART 4: TOKYO 3-YOKOHAMA
28 Februari 2018 (Rabu) 34. Beli Tobu Tokyo Metro Pass lagi 770 yen. 35. Harga 1.700 yen + pajak. 39. Sebelumnya saya belum pernah ke Tokyo Tower jadinya saya sempatkan sekarang. Dari Tsukiji naik Tokyo Metro Hibiya line ke Kamiyacho. Ongkos 170 yen. Inilah enaknya pakai TM Pass jadi bisa hop on hop off keliling dengan Tokyo Metro. 46. Naik bus pukul 22.10. Alhasil colokan hape kami saling menyilang. Pengeluaran hari ini di luar belanja pribadi: -Tobu Tokyo Metro Pass 770 yen (kalau tanpa pass 1.090 yen) -perjalanan dengan kereta JR 1.380 yen -sewa loker 600 yen -tiket masuk Raumen Museum 310 yen -makan ramen vegetarian 900 yen -makan chicken sausage curry dan tuna salad 1.130 yen

Almost three years to the day from the release of their debut LP Omniliberation, Usurper of Modern Medicine present their second album, Everything is Nothing, out July 7 (Independent/MGM).
If Usurper of Modern Medicine (UOMM) is a band of musical healers, consider this new album a prescription for transcendence.
More than two years in the making, Everything is Nothing is a kaleidoscope of otherworldly sounds, melding the rhythmic temperament of krautrock with UOMM’s penchant for maximalist soundscapes, psychedelic chaos, interstellar space rock, and shimmering synthesisers.
Opening track and current single House of Reps unfurls at a breakneck speed, in stark contrast to the machinations of its namesake. It’s a prismatic flurry of glimmering synths flooding over the pulsating basslines and faraway, reverberating vocals of frontman Steven Aaron Hughes, like the soundtrack to a journey through a hall of mirrors.
In the first music-based App of its kind, each vinyl copy of Everything is Nothing will be accompanied by an augmented reality application. Designed by Hughes in collaboration with Perth surrealist painter Liam Dee and coder Steve Berrick, the App turns Everything is Nothing into a VR touch-sensor game, creating generative artwork in time with the rhythm of the track using information from the user’s listening environment. The vinyl and AR App are available now to pre-order with delivery expected early August.
Since forming in 2010, UOMM have carved out a niche as master manipulators of light and sound, in the process solidifying a reputation as one of Western Australia’s most compelling live acts with a audio-visual experience that’s seen them share stages with MONO, Wire, Holy Fuck, and Lightning Bolt, tour Japan and appear at New Zealand’s Camp A Low Hum.
The album will be launched on July 14 at The Bird, Perth with special guests Bonney Upwelling and Akioka. Limited tickets on the door. $10 entry with a copy of the album!
