Social impact might not immediately come to mind when thinking about a honeymoon, but Sophia Bush Hughes and Grant Hughes are not your average newlyweds. The duo used their June wedding in Tulsa to spotlight the issues and causes closest to their hearts—including a tour of the city’s historic freedom colony of Greenwood and a registry through which guests could donate to nonprofits. Their postnuptial celebration was just as thoughtful. “We wanted to take a trip that was a milestone for us but also really people- and planet-inclusive,” says Bush Hughes. The couple hit a few eco-focused stops on their itinerary but found that their time at Kisawa Sanctuary on Benguerra Island in Mozambique, a resort known for its marine-conservation efforts and strong ties to the local community, left them most inspired.

From what I've seen in maps, bazaruto is the name of the whole island and benguerra is just some part of it, in the south, but is the same island.

Let's be honest, what are the odds of 2 models that know Lewis from a while, that are wearing his special hat and spending holidays in the same place as him to not be in the same group? Lewis always has some girls on his trips, so I'm not surprised with it, what I'm surprised is that I never expected 2 famous models to hint like some ig influencers

Bazaruto Archipelago The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of six islands located in Mozambique, near the mainland city of Vilankulo. The archipelago consists of the following islands:

Benguerra

Magaruque

Banque

Santa Carolina (also known as Paradise Island)

Shell

Additionally, Nyati Island is situated further to the south.

Geography The islands belong to the Vilanculos and Inhassoro districts of Inhambane Province. They were formed from sand deposited by the Save River, which has since shifted its course. Santa Carolina, also referred to as Paradise Island, is a true rock island with dimensions of 3 km by 0.5 km. It boasts three stunning beaches with coral reefs close to the shore. This island is considered the "gem" of the Bazaruto Archipelago, which is a designated marine national park.

Tourist Attractions Visitors to the archipelago can enjoy pristine sandy beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and opportunities for activities like surfing and fishing.

Ecology The Bazaruto Archipelago was declared a National Park in 1971. It is home to a diverse range of reef fish, including surgeonfish, Moorish idols, parrotfish, angel fish, and butterfly fish, among others. Sea turtles, game fish, and devil rays are also frequently spotted. The archipelago is a habitat for various endangered marine species such as the whale shark, manta ray, leatherback turtle, humpback whale, and the dugong. Notably, Bazaruto's dugong population is approximately 120, making it the largest remaining population in Mozambique.

History There's speculation that the Bazaruto Archipelago might be the island referred to as "Crocodile" in an 11th-century Egyptian text. This island is the last place in a list of sites along the East African coast known to Egyptian merchants. Bazaruto is known to have a significant population of crocodiles.

Whale Season is here at Kisawa Sanctuary

July marked the official start of humpback whale migration season in the Bazaruto Archipelago. The team at BCSS have already witnessed many sightings, including a group of five male humpbacks escorting a female and calf, off the south of the island last week.

“These majestic marine nomads cover thousands of miles from high-latitude summer feeding grounds, where they take advantage of the food resources of vast swarms of krill that feed on the phytoplankton blooms, to low-latitude winter breeding grounds, with Mozambique Channel being one of those, where they mate, give birth, nurse, and then return,”Katya Kalashnikova, BCSS.

It is a fantastic season to visit Benguerra Island and witness the beauty of the humpback as they make their run along the Mozambique coastline over the next three months.

How does the anon know how much they spent on the honeymoon. Would love the deets

Also side note I thought it was so weird that everything they did for their wedding and honeymoon involved acknowledging other people or service, like it’s ok to just celebrate you. Seems like a distraction

Well there was an article written about their honeymoon where some of the spots they visited were included in it, so if you look it up, you can see how much it cost. I know one of the resorts they went to was 5000k/night…but maybe anon has more info as well?!

Now that you mentioned it, I got to admit I was a bit bothered by it. I admire that they wanted to show off Tulsa and its history but it’s your wedding. It’s okay to be completely selfish for a weekend and just celebrate yourself and your love story completely. I know they did on their wedding day and that they were thrilled with the whole thing but I don’t know, it felt more like a big party where they gathered friends for a weekend of homework/school stuff rather than a wedding weekend.
