GAMMA KNIFE SURGERY: WHAT CAN IT TREAT BESIDES BRAIN TUMORS? -Mya Care
Gamma knife surgery, a type of stereotactic radiosurgery, utilizes highly focused beams of radiation to treat various conditions in the brain. Unlike traditional surgery, gamma knife surgery is known to penetrate the brain tissue without the need for incisions. Instead, it delivers a precise dose of radiation to the targeted area of the brain while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue. Gamma knife surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, taking a few hours to complete, with most patients resuming normal activities within a day or two.

Survey #393
iāve got a shitload of surveys backed up, so... get ready, aha.
Have you ever watched the show Bad Girls Club? No, but I adore the Falling In Reverse song, haha. Have you ever purposely made someone jealous? Not to my recollection, no. What kind of shampoo do you use? It's a Dove one for dandruff and I LOVE it. It makes my hair so silky, smells good, and just feels clean longer. Have you ever been told you were a good writer? Not to brag, but I've been told that my whole life. What name do you think is pretty for a girl? "Alessandra" will ALWAYS be my favorite name. If you had to name your daughter after a Disney princess, which one? Hm. Perhaps Jasmine, or maybe Aurora. Do you think telepathy is real? Nope. When you were little, did you ever think you would be a magician? Not seriously, no, but I was OBSESSED with those little magic kits you could get at the Scholastic book faire. What is your opinion on poetry? It's a beautiful way of expression, and I especially love the figurative approach to it. I truly think writing poetry can even help discover things about yourself. What, if any, TV shows do you have on DVD? I have seasons 1-4 of Meerkat Manor, and you can bet your ass I'll get Season 5 once that's available in that format! Would you rather go in a hot air balloon or go sky diving? Hot air balloon, probs. I'm too scared of sky diving. Homeworkāwould you rather do it on a Friday or Sunday? Friday. I like to get it out of the way the day it's assigned. What cartoon character did you have a crush on as a kid? Ash Ketchum, haha. What video games have you beaten? Loads and loads. Who makes the most in your entire family? I actually don't know. Probably Ashley? She's a mammographer, along with other duties. If a cosmetology class was offered at your school, would you take it? No. Do you think plastic surgery is no big deal? If it's done safely and not overdone to the point it affects your health, you damn well go for it if it helps your self-confidence. Your favourite meal growing up? Spaghetti, or as I called it, "psghetti," haha. How many bedrooms in the house you live in? Three. What link was the closest person to you thatās died? If we're talking humans, Jason's mom. If you wanna include any living being, then absolutely my dog Teddy. Anything about your mum that annoys you? She is ALWAYS right. Doesn't matter what it is. What meal that your mum cooks is your favourite? I don't know. Have you ever tried caviar? Can you explain the taste to me? HELL no. What, in your opinion, will cause the end of the world? The universe itself is infinite. If we're talking Earth, completely eliminated, either a gamma ray or black hole. If your siblings are old enough, what do they do for work? I mentioned Ashley already, and Nicole is a social worker with children. I actually don't remember what my half-siblings do for work. Have you ever been jealous of your siblings? I've been envious of them for sure, absolutely. They're actually doing shit with their lives and seem to have themselves figured out. I gotta admit I'm jealous of how close Ash and Nicole are, too. I want to be the third person, but I'm just... not. We're so very different that it's hard to get as close as I want. Do you prefer a proper restaurant to a fast food place? Depends on what I'm feeling of course, but I think like most people, I have a more quality experience at sit-in restaurants. What is the biggest dream of your life? Photograph and come into physical contact with meerkats (whether they climb on me or I pet them, idc) at the KMP. I WILL cry. What is a country youād never ever visit? Places like North Korea. Have you ever had any trouble paying your bills? I don't have bills. Do you think life should just hand things to you? No. Would you rather live off government benefits or earn your own money? I desperately want to earn my own money. What type of a survey do you skip altogether? I don't like bolding surveys. I like the opportunity to explain in normal ones like these. Do you get nervous before āmeeting the parentsā? Yep. Do you own a knife? Not any besides your ordinary kitchen knives. What song do you want played at your funeral? I have a few in mind. "Life is Beautiful" by Sixx A.M. and "Angels on the Moon" by Thriving Ivory probably top the list. Do people get shocked by how old you are? I don't know, but probably, given how dependent I am on my parents for like, everything. Do you have any features that people notice right away? As in a mole on your cheek, or a big nose, big teeth, etc? Apparently my lip ring. What's the last compliment you received? The lady that works with me in the TMS office liked my Umbreon shirt. What's the meanest insult you have received? Probably that I'm a martyr (and not in the good way). Have you ever fallen asleep with the last person you kissed? Yes. Does your best friend approve of the last person you kissed? They're the same person lmao. Do you have any friends with kids? Yes. I feel like most of my FB friends have kids. What was the last thing you spent your money on? I bought my niece her birthday present. Where did you first kiss the last person you kissed? My back porch. Does your favorite song remind you of anybody? Just America in general. Do you have a member of the opposite sex youāve told everything to? Jason, pretty much. Do you want any tattoos? If yes, what? Oh hunny, I want LOADS. Are promises important to you? YES. Do NOT promise me shit if you're not planning to keep it for sure. If youāre a girl, do you have big hips? Too big? Well, for one, I'm overweight, so. But if you're talking bone structure and spacing or whatever, then no, I'd say they're average. Girls, do you think you look good in dresses or not? Who says only girls can wear dresses? But regardless, nope. Have you ever taken a pottery class before? No. Have you ever had a period in your life where you were on a major health kick and you were really picky about what you consumed? A few times. Is there anything that youād never do for any amount of money? There's a good number of things. Do you know what your next injection will be? No. Does anyone call you darling? If so who? Sara sometimes. If you had to have a cartoon character tattooed to you what would it be? If I had to, maybe Pikachu? It'd be a nostalgia thing. You have to dye your hair two colours, what do you choose? Two colors at once? Maybe a pastel mix of pink and purple. Or black with orange highlights and layers? What a Halloween vibe. Ever had something stolen? If so what? Yeah; our basketball hoop was stolen from our yard when I was younger. Do you feel the water in a pool before you get in, or do you dive right in? I feel it. Have you ever touched a squirrel? No. What's better, candles or incense? Incense! When's the last time youāve smelled a skunk? I'm actually unsure if I ever have. Have you ever used a Ouija board? No. Have you ever met anyone who claimed to be a witch? Yes. Does it annoy you when high-schoolers wear Elmo bookbags? Why the fuck would I care? Do you go along with prank-callers, or just hang up? I donāt even answer numbers I donāt know. Would you ever tattoo a loverās name onto your body? No. Do you own any version of Guitar Hero? I have a lot, actually. Do you use mouthwash every single day? No. Have you ever eaten White Castle burgers? Only those you warm up in the microwave. We don't have the actual restaurant here. Whatās the weirdest thing in your body that you can crack? Nothing weird. Do you like chocolate milk? Who doesn't? o: Do you know anyone with asthma? Yeah, my mom. Why arenāt you texting the last person you kissed? Because she's probably asleep, and we mainly chat on Discord now. Has someone ever called you at midnight on your birthday? Many years ago. Have you ever slept in the same bed as your friend? Yeah. Do you want to see somebody right now? Yes. Do you currently have feelings for anybody? Yes. When was the last time you changed in front of someone? I'm not sure; especially with how I feel about my body now, I avoid it like the plague. Realistically though, probably Mom, passing by or something. Who did you last fall asleep with? If you exclude my cat, Sara. Think back to the last person you held hands with, would you kiss them? That would be my niece Emerson, and I'd certainly kiss her head. Can you be your complete self around the person you like? She's the only person I feel 110% comfortable being my authentic self around. How many tattoos would you get? I want A LOT. Like, more than I'd keep track of. How many bracelets do you have on your wrists right now? None.

IT WAS ALL GOING SO WELL! PT 1
One of the many challenges of living with a diagnosis of cancer is knowing and understanding the variability of the day to day existence. Adapting to any set of limitations whilst enjoying the presenting strengths. Existing within such a context without making assumptions that things will always remain the same. This relates to both the physical and the emotional. If you acknowledge within this experience that any reality is made up of both the person who has the diagnosis and their immediate partner/supporter. Each will have a slightly different and nuanced position. There are additional layers beyond this which will be held by different family members, children, siblings, parents. All of this is played out on a day to day basis both sociallly and politically. Since my diagnosis, four years ago, TC and I have made decisions about how we live our life acknowledging such variance and complexity. We have accepted such decisions exist knowing there is never a right nor a wrong, but there is always a consequence. Our hope was that we always landed on the side of benefit, or if not there was some type of richness of learning. After all surely that is what living is all about. It was in this context that TC and I made the decision to return to our Cortijo in Andulucia Southern Spain, this autumn for a period five weeks. For some, undertaking such a road trip/ adventure during a world pandemic seemed bizarre, but to us it made total sense. I donāt intend justifying the fullness of that decision because why should I? Suffice to say our special escape offers us both an environmental/ geographical and emotional benefit. Just to also acknowledge my consultant was informed at every stage. He may not have always agreed, but he understood. Our decision to travel on this occasion was taken just two weeks after Iād had Gamma Knife radio surgery to address ten brain mets. The response post surgery had been good and Iād had minimal side effects. Our planning had taken account of all advice from both the consultant who had led the surgery and my regular cancer team. Iād gathered together all of my meds and weād planned a set of activities that took account of my current situation. In short weād agreed we werenāt going to take risks but did intend doing those things we believed enhanced our day to day experience. These included walking, working on our land, socialising with our friends and all done alongside the heat, sunshine and culture weād grown to love. This trip also gave us the opportunity to spend time with my parents who themselves live in Spain on the coast, just two hours from our mountain retreat we called home. I should say we are both well aware of the privilidge of our position. TC had driven the length of Spain in our van, north to south. We had all spent time transitioning, including our dog Smithy, to the temperature and environment. We had also spent a couple of days at my parents on the beach. This really was the way to spend an autumn. Despite the risks of COVID we felt safe and had been careful with our use of masks, sanitizer and social spacing. Our mountain retreat really did offer a sanctuary from the craziness of the world. Two weeks into our trip it really was going so well. Then mid morning on Friday 9 th October everything changed. I am aware a great many of you with regular access to Facebook will be familiar with what happened next. Apologies if this is therefore repetitious. I should also acknowledge the summary I am about to provide is made up of several peopleās input, for what will become immediately obvious. The afternoon and evening before, TC and I had enjoyed a wonderful time. Some great walking in the mountains, a wonderful late afternoon lunch, opportunity to bump into friends and of course some wonderful Spanish vino tinto/ blanco. Weād returned to our mountain retreat before it had gotten dark and continued our reflections and discussions before going to bed. There was no indication as to what was going to happen the next day.

Cyberknife Treatment: Benefits, Costs, All You Need to Know
Overview
Cyberknife is non-invasiveĀ radiation therapyĀ for treating cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. This technique can target the tumor tissues precisely and destroy them with high-dose radiation in less time. Previously, with linear accelerators, there were high chances of missing a tumor during certain body movements like breathing or coughing, as this could cause the tumor to slightly change its position. After the introduction ofĀ CyberknifeĀ in medical sciences, weāve been able to lessen the radiation damage to surrounding healthy tissues. Here weāve covered various queries in detail so that you can make an informed decision related to the treatment procedure if you need to.
How does it work?
As per ourĀ oncologists, before the radiation, a 3D image of the target area (cancer-affected body part or tumor mass) is created by using aĀ CT scan. Along with this imaging, radiographic markers or tracers are also implanted intravenously during the treatment.
These images will help your doctor plan the radiation dose for treating the target area.
After taking these pre-treatment images, the patient is asked to lie comfortably.
The low-dose X-ray cameras will scan and monitor the patientās movements, like breathing.
These new images are compared with the pre-treatment images.
The computer-controlled robotic arm moves around, delivering radiation to the target area from various angles. This way, it will avoid unnecessary damage to the surrounding healthy tissues.
However,Ā CyberKnifeĀ has limitations as well. One of the major drawbacks is the lengthy treatment time of 30 to 60 minutes.
Because of the repeated verifications before each beam delivery, this has no effect on the accuracy. CyberKnife is not suitable for large volumes.
What are the benefits of undergoing Cyberknife treatment?
The following are the benefits that you can have after undergoing Cyberknife treatment.
This treatment method helps in treating tumor masses or cancer at inoperable sites like deep inside the brain.
This can target the tumor tissues precisely and adjust the radiation beams accordingly.
Itās a painless procedure and provides comfort to patients in comparison to other procedures.
Fast recovery with fewer post-treatment complications.
Is the Cyberknife treatment outcome better than surgery?
Like with every surgery, the treatment outcome may vary based on multiple factors, like the type or stage of cancer of the patient and their overall health condition. Some cancers can be treated with Cyberknife, while others require surgery.
Having said that, your doctor will be the best person to make that decision.
If you have any queries before or during the treatment, you can ask our experts without any hesitation. They will explain the procedure in simple terms.
What does having a Cyberknife treatment feel like?
As per our experts'Ā doctor in India, a patient can avail of the CyberKnife treatment at the outpatient department. The treatment is pain-free and there will be no major discomfort for you.
If you are anxious, please let your doctor know, who will administer mild sedatives to help you relax. You could also experiment with listening to music during the session.
Also, read-Ā Cyberknife vs Gamma Knife
Are there any risks associated with Cyberknife surgery?
Like every surgery, Cyberknife treatment also carries a certain set of risks that include:
-Headache(due to edema)
-Nausea and vomiting
- Orthostatic hypotension
-Seizure
Although these are rare and not such serious risks, and can be managed by our expert professionals.
Cyberknife treatment cost in India
The cost of Cyberknife treatment can vary. It depends on the following factors,
-the location of the hospital
-the type of infrastructure
-the severity of the case
-patient's overall health condition
The average cost ofĀ Cyberknife treatment in IndiaĀ ranges from Rs. 3,40,000 to Rs. 4,00,000.
Are there any chances of losing hair after Cyberknife surgery?
As CyberKnife targets the tumors with pinpoint accuracy, you are unlikely to lose your hair. However, if you are being treated for cancer near the scalp, you may experience hair loss in the surrounding area.
What are the post-treatment instructions you need to follow?
Most patients have fewer side effects and can quickly return to their normal routines. Prior to treatment, doctors will discuss all possible side effects and may prescribe medication to control any side effects that may occur.
How can we help with the treatment?
If you are in search of minimally invasiveĀ brain tumor surgeryĀ options in India, ourĀ medical trip advisorsĀ will serve as your guide throughout the treatment. They will be physically present with you even before theĀ medical treatmentĀ begins. The following will be provided to you:
Opinions of expert physicians and surgeons
Transparent communication
Coordinated care
Prior appointment with specialists
Assistance with hospital formalities
24*7 availability
Arrangement for travel
Assistance for accommodation and healthy recovery
Assistance in emergencies

Brain Tumor Causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment by the best neurosurgeon in Gurgaon
Brain tumors are thought to develop when particular genes on a cell's chromosomes are impaired and no longer function properly. These genes usually control the rate at which the cell divides (if it divides at all), as well as repair genes that repair defects in other genes and genes that should cause the cell to self-destruct if the damage is beyond repair. A person may be born with partial defects in one or more of these genes in some cases. Environmental factors can then cause additional damage. In other cases, environmental disruption to the genes may be the primary cause. It is unclear why certain people in a given "environment" grow brain tumors and others do not. For the brain, tumor queries get an appointment with a neurosurgeon in Gurgaon.
When a cell divides rapidly and the internal mechanisms that control its growth are disrupted, the cell may eventually develop into a tumor. Another line of protection may be the body's immune system, which would optimally identify and destroy the abnormal cell. Tumors may produce substances that prevent the immune system from recognizing the abnormal tumor cells, allowing the tumor to eventually overcome all internal and external barriers to development.
A rapidly growing tumor may need more oxygen and nutrients than the local blood supply intended for normal tissue can provide. Tumors may generate angiogenesis factors, which encourage the development of blood vessels. The new vessels that form increase the supply of nutrients to the tumor and the tumor eventually becomes dependent on them. This field is being researched, but more thorough research is needed to translate this information into possible therapies. Schedule your appointment with a neurosurgeon in max Gurgaon.
Symptoms
The following symptoms can accompany different types of brain tumors, depending on where the tumor is located:
Headaches that might be more intense in the morning or cause the patient to wake up in the middle of the night
Convulsions or seizures
Problems thought, listening, or articulating
Personality changes
Weakness or paralysis in one hand or part of the body
Dizziness or loss of control
Vision changes
Hearing alterations
Numbness or tingling in the face
Nausea or vomiting, as well as swallowing problems
Perplexity and disorientation
Diagnosis
Brain tumors can be detected using sophisticated imaging techniques. Computed tomography (CT or CAT scan) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are two diagnostic instruments (MRI). Other MRI sequences will help the surgeon schedule the resection of the tumor based on the location of the brain's normal nerve pathways. Intraoperative MRI is also used during surgery to guide tissue biopsies and tumor removal. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is used to analyze the chemical profile of the tumor and assess the extent of the lesions seen on the MRI. Positron emission tomography (PET scan) may assist in the identification of recurrent brain tumors. For brain, tumor queries get an appointment with a neurosurgeon in Gurgaon.
A biopsy is sometimes the only way to make a conclusive diagnosis of a brain tumor. The biopsy is performed by the neurosurgeon, and the pathologist makes the final diagnosis, deciding if the tumor is benign or malignant and grading it accordingly.
Brain Tumor Treatment
Brain tumors, whether primary or metastatic, benign or malignant, are typically treated with surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy, either alone or in different combinations. While radiation and chemotherapy are most widely used for malignant, residual, or recurring tumors, treatment decisions are taken on a case-by-case basis and rely on a variety of factors. Each form of therapy comes with its own set of risks and side effects.
It is commonly recognized that surgically removing a brain tumor completely or almost completely is beneficial to the patient. The neurosurgeon's challenge is to extract as much tumor as possible while preventing damage to brain tissue critical to the patient's neurological function (such as the ability to speak, walk, etc.). Neurosurgeons have traditionally opened the skull with a craniotomy to gain access to the tumor and remove as much of it as possible. During surgery, an extracorporeal drain (EVD) can be placed in the brain fluid cavities to drain normal brain fluid as the brain recovers from the surgery.
A stereotactic biopsy is another technique that is widely done, often before a craniotomy. This less invasive procedure enables doctors to collect tissue to make an accurate diagnosis. A frame is usually connected to the patient's head, a scan is obtained, and the patient is then taken to the operating room, where a small hole in the skull is drilled to allow access to the irregular area. Some hospitals can perform this procedure without the use of a frame, depending on the position of the lesion. A small sample is collected for microscopic analysis.
Surgical navigation systems, which are computerized instruments, were introduced in the early 1990s. These devices helped the neurosurgeon in tumor direction, localization, and orientation. This experience decreased the risks and increased the extent of tumor removal. Surgical navigation systems allowed previously inoperable tumors to be excised with appropriate risks in many cases. Some of these devices can also be used for biopsies without the need for a frame to be attached to the skull. One drawback of these systems is that they rely on a pre-surgery scan (CT or MRI) to direct the neurosurgeon. As a result, they are unable to account for intraoperative brain movements.
Some consider intraoperative language mapping to be a vital technique for patients with tumors that impair language function, such as massive, dominant-hemisphere gliomas. During the operation, a conscious patient is operated on and the anatomy of their language system is mapped. The doctor then determines which parts of the tumor can be safely removed. According to a recent study, cortical language mapping may be used as a secure and effective adjunct to improve glioma resection while maintaining critical language sites.
Some patients with brain tumors can need ventriculoperitoneal shunting. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is continuously flowing inside the brain and spine of all. If this flow is blocked, the sacs that hold the fluid (the ventricles) will swell, causing increased pressure inside the head and resulting in hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus, if left untreated, can cause brain damage and even death. The neurosurgeon may decide to use a shunt to redirect spinal fluid away from the brain, lowering pressure.
The peritoneal cavity is the most common body cavity into which CSF is redirected (the area surrounding the abdominal organs). The shunt is usually permanent. If it becomes blocked, the symptoms are close to those of hydrocephalus, which can include headaches, vomiting, vision issues, and/or depression or lethargy, among other things. An Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy is another technique that can be used to monitor obstruction of the brain fluid pathways. This allows brain fluid to be diverted around the obstruction without the use of a shunt.
Radiation therapy employs high-energy X-rays to destroy cancer cells as well as irregular brain cells and shrink tumors. If the tumor cannot be adequately treated with surgery, radiation therapy may be an option.
Standard External Beam Radiotherapy employs several radiation beams to provide conformal coverage of the tumor while limiting the exposure to normal structures in the surrounding area. With advanced delivery systems, the likelihood of long-term radiation injury is extremely low. In addition to 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), newer delivery methods include intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) (IMRT).
Proton Beam Therapy is a form of radiation in which protons, a type of radioactivity, are directly guided to the tumor. The benefit is that less of the tissue surrounding the tumor is damaged.
Stereotactic radiosurgery (such as Gamma Knife, Novalis, and Cybercide) is a procedure that focuses radiation on the target tissue using several beams. This procedure does less damage to the tissues surrounding the tumor. There is currently no proof that one delivery system is superior to another in terms of clinical results, and each has advantages and disadvantages.
Chemotherapy is usually thought to be efficient in treating some pediatric tumors, lymphomas, and certain oligodendrogliomas. Although chemotherapy has been shown to increase overall survival in patients with the most malignant primary brain tumors, it only benefits about 20% of all patients, and doctors are unable to predict which patients will benefit before treatment. As a result of the possible side effects, some doctors opt not to use chemotherapy (lung scarring, suppression of the immune system, nausea, etc.).
Chemotherapy works by causing cell damage than normal tissue can heal faster than tumor tissue. Resistance to chemotherapy can include the survival of tumor tissue that is unable to respond to the drug or the drug's inability to move from the bloodstream into the brain. The blood-brain barrier is a special barrier that exists between the bloodstream and brain tissue. Schedule your appointment with the best brain tumor surgeon in Gurgaon.
Laser Thermal Ablation is a newer technique being used by some centers to treat smaller tumors, especially in areas that were historically difficult to reach using open surgery procedures. This includes inserting a tiny catheter into the lesion, possibly conducting a biopsy, and then using a laser to thermally ablate the lesion. Since this procedure has only recently been used in the treatment of brain tumors, its long-term effectiveness has yet to be determined.

Gamma Knife Uses Computerized Treatment Planning Software To Locate and Irradiate Small Tumors Within the Head and Brain
Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a kind of radiation therapy used to deal with tumors, vascular malformations and other abnormalities in the brain. Gamma Knife radiosurgery, like other kinds of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), isn't surgery in the standard sense while there is no incision.
Gamma Knife is really a radiation therapy that uses computerized treatment planning software to help physicians locate and irradiate small targets within the head and brain with high precision.
Gamma Knife radiosurgery is near about 90 % successful in shrinking Ā or killing brain tumors or stopping their growth. And it doesn't hurt or require anesthesia. Treatment takes just one single session, and patients can return on track activities almost immediately.Gamma Knife Perfexion treatment has many benefits. It is bloodless, virtually painless, no loss in hair and rapid come back to pre-treatment activities.
