I think I had it all wrong.  Was a big snow predicted for the Bills vs Pats game or did I just imagine it?  The game, all Bills, is played in the bitter cold.  No snow.  I am remembering what we used to say down South: “It’s too cold to snow.”
Spent the afternoon digging out music.  Tons of duet music.  Music I haven’t looked at since the lockdown, when duetting abruptly stopped.  When Dan B said he wanted to play a few tunes together I got cold feet.  Would I be able to find any the notes?  But Dan B came in from the cold and we started in.  Mozart flute duets...on flute and, yes, xylophone.  It went surprisingly well.
He mentions the nation’s growing desire for an authoritarian government and says Tucker (Swanson) Carlson might throw his hat into the presidential ring.  Gawd, what a thought.  He asks if I ever thought about moving.  It takes me a moment to grasp that he’s talking about moving to another country.  Canada?  Moving would be catastrophic for me.  No...no moving...even if DJT is the next president. I have to stay put.   (Note that Trump is giving another of his rallies, tonight in Arizona.  A big crowd, we can be sure, because it’s free and  it’s the best show in town.)

Cold.  Snow predicted.  Three playoff games.  (There were two yesterday. Lots of football until it all stops.)  The Buccaneers play the Eagles, down in Tampa.  Warm weather.  Sleeveless shirts...plenty of tattoos...some of these guys tatted like convicts or gang members.  A shot of someone’s mom in the stands.  She too is inked.  The Eagles no challenge for Tom Brady.  Odd that after running up the score Brady doesn’t come out of the game.
Evening. Turn on the TV again.  Chiefs vs the Steelers.  Young Patrick Mahomes wins big.  This is, barring extraordinary circumstances, Ben Roethilisberger’s last game.  The end of an era.  Eighteen year career... Funny little interview with Mahomes afterwards.  The interviewer saw Patrick and Ben talking after the game.  Patrick is asked: What did you say to him.  Patrick says: I told him I had a lot of respect for him, having grown up watching him play.  It was, to be sure, well meant but maybe not the words Big Ben wanted to hear at that moment.
Note: There was very little coverage of the Trump rally in Arizona. I saw an excerpt.  The same message...to the big red-hatted MAGA crowd. DJT tossing hats into the crowd...bringing to mind his tossing paper towels in Puerto Rico.  Behind Donald are a few Blacks, wearing “Blacks for Trump” t-shirts. Some of them laughing as DJT spews hate.   Is it all a joke to them? Blah, blah, blah...the stolen election, etc.  Same old song.  Among the guest speakers (preceding DJT) were people running for office.  All Trumpsters.  One a QAnon guy (Finchum, in a comically wide brimmed cowboy hat...)  All out for revenge...
Snow turns to rain.

News Or Noise: Week Five Edition
Week 5 is here and @iheartcaravans gives his take on all the week's top headlines.
I hope the defender is okay Derrick Henry is a force of nature. Over the first four games of the season he is averaging 127.5 yards per game on the ground. In the age of the timeshare, Henry stands alone, getting 28.5 rushing attempts per game. That’s more than some teams are averaging per game this season. The guy is a monster even if he is only averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Now consider…

The Valero Verdict: NFL Starting Quarterback's Ranked
The Valero Verdict: NFL Starting Quarterback’s Ranked
I’ve always been a guy that loves to talk about the quarterback position, so I figured why not share my rankings of the 32 starters in the NFL.
Before I get to my rankings, I tossed Tua and Herbert into their starting roles believing both will play this year. I am also rankings the rookie QBs at the bottom due to them not playing a down on the league. I also believe that Nick Foles will take…

Very cold.  I head out.  Errands.
Note: On Jan 6, there will be a congressional prayer vigil in D C, on the anniversary (for lack of a better word) of the insurrection.  A half hour before this begins, down at Mar-a-Lago, DJT will host a press conference.
Evening.  Steelers play the Browns, in Pittsburgh.  Barring extraordinary circumstances it will probably be the last time the home crowd will see Big Ben Roethilisberger play in front of the home crowd.  The Steelers win and Ben is feted, sort of forced-marched around the field.  The end of an era. (Long story. Years ago I met Ben’s predecessor, Terry Bradshaw.  He was married  to Jo Jo Starbuck  Kuniko was Jo Jo’s dresser.)
Tuesday, January 4, 2022
Jeez. Jeopardy contestant and big winner, Amy Schneider, robbed at gunpoint in Oakland.  (Jarring loose memories of Oakland.  Jack London Square.  The jazz club, Yoshi’s)... the Square being a safe area [I think] in a notoriously dangerous city.)
DJT cancels the Big Lie fest that was to take place on Thursday.
Peter Navarro, educated well beyond his intelligence, speaks with great pride about how he and buddy Steve Bannon set about to steal the election.  That grin on his face as it is suggested to him it was a failed coup.  He says, “It’s all in my book!”  Navarro says it would have worked had all those people wandered in.
Wednesday, January 5, 2022
Merrick Garland makes a thirty minute speech about the insurrection and those responsible for it.  Tomorrow, a year from the day, a lot of Republicans are going to be lying awfully low.  Not DJT...he’ll be mouthing off...maybe continuing to play up the death of Ashley Babbitt (and her “martyrdom.” The poor woman is the Joan of Arc figure in this drama.
