It has been a long time coming. She finally had enough as he tried to walk away again. She did not understand- the puzzle was not complete and she was upset about it all. She wanted to know why the other did what he did. She wanted to understand but the other never told her anything that could help her figure it out.
Her cheeks red now and her eyes glassy from tears welling up in frustration and anger as he said he couldn’t do this. Do WHAT exactly!?! “What the fuck do you mean you’re in trouble? That much is clear but what is going on? You can’t tell ME?” she yelled the last part “Why not ME?” she should have been the person who knew everything about him as he once had known everything about her.
Maybe not? “You can’t just pull away every time, you can’t keep avoiding this- me.” a pause as she took a step backwards and eyed him up and down. “Or do you have different people you trust now?” her old fear re-emerging that he had gotten together with someone back then and that she had been dumped. Not that they had been romantic back then but there had always been something between the two- and then there was their friendship. Something that she had thought was stronger than Koichi finding someone to love like that.
No- her brows furrowed. This sounded more severe. “Do you have a stalker?” she asked then as her eyes widened “Is someone looking for you? Is that why you’re hiding?” Koichi’s illegitimate child? No, or— maybe? She did not know. Something else? It had all started after that man… “Does it have to do with that man?” she then asked as she tried to search on Koichi’s face for an answer.
“Whatever it is, I can help you, too.”

Her cheeks heated up even more when Koichi doubled down. The other got up to leave, fucking giving up and walking away from the confrontation like he always did. She was so fucking sick of it.
“Why do you always LEAVE,” she yelled as he had gotten up and spoke about sending medicine and whatnot. “Why do you always run away and turn your back to me, why will you never face me, fight me, fucking hate me for all I care but you always just leave.” she spat at him as her pupils were slits looking at the healer- or whatever Koichi was.
She moved in between him and the door as she glared at him. “You are always running away and you never talk to me. You always just leave- ever since- ever since…”
A pause, she swallowed as she trembled. The woman was small in posture but she was mighty and she then finally bit the bullet.
“ever since you let that man die.” she spat at him “When you broke your oath. You never explained why you did that- you never said you were scared or that you couldn’t do it or that you just didn’t want to. You never said a thing and you don’t say things now. You have different names and you won’t tell me where you live and now you’re suddenly super racist to demons?!”
Everything came out. She was so mad.
“Do something, hate me, scream at me, slap me or even cry. But show something, show some emotion beyond looking away and RUNNING. Stop RUNNING all the time. I DEMAND you to tell me what is going on. I know you still care for me, as I do for you, I KNOW you do.”

Her dark eyes shot up at his words and they narrowed at it. This was uncalled for- she wasn’t liking how the other reacted and then he doubled down on it. “Why are you insistent on judging people by what they are, instead of who.” she asked and a slight hiss slipped through her words as she got worked up. Nagini weren’t always seen in a positive light either after all- nor were dark elves. She knew Koichi didn’t think badly of those two but it was the principle of it.
“After all we are the sum of our actions.” the nurse pointed out and there was a toxic edge to that statement for sure as she looked at the other challenging. “I was actually thinking of asking a weaponsmith who is the boyfriend of Master Jung, a colleague, who isn’t a demon by the way.”
She turned to Koichi, stopping her pacing around, cheeks red from frustration. “Do you want to help me or are you going to bitch about the other people I want to ask for help? Because then I can just leave-” a long exhale. “Your choice.”

She pushed her nails into her palms as she sat in the chair- leaving the warmth of the other behind as they continued talking and she felt sorrow for their distance as well as for her parents. It was a strange mixture of the two feelings and of course her parents’ safety was worse than her falling out with Koichi- or was it? She would have to do some soul-searching later on. “Spells, scrolls maybe- I should ask the demons.” she murmured more to herself than to Koichi.
She could ask Hemlock for help, and Minwoo. It would be fine, she told herself, to ask them for help if it was for a good cause. After all it was not like all demons were bad in her eyes. Small red crescents in her skin were left as she got up again and started pacing through the room. Back and forth.
“How will we get it there? Do I bring it? Maybe if I bring it to Japan dad can come pick it up or some of our troops- we have always been closer to Japan with portals and stuff.” she strategized with Koichi and then looked him in the eyes.
“What about weapons? I know someone who makes weapons?”

“Maybe some more food and medicine, we could get some protection spells and amulets- I think there are p[people in the villages that sell things like that. The tall man with the red hair- he sells little gadgets too that are enchanted I will have to see what he had for sale…” she pondered out loud as she sat on the other’s lap as if she had not banned him from her life before she knew she would regret it forever.
Belle-Lilith might be a kind and sweet person, even a saint in some people’s eyes but she had been very harsh and cruel to Koichi and deep-within she knew as much. She knew how much he had hurt the man and how he had never deserved such a harsh treatment even if he had gone against everything she had ever said was important to her.
Now when he said he was fine she did not believe him anymore and her eyes clouded with sorrow. Thinking that the reason he did not tell her was their falling out and how she had treated him. A revenge of some sorts- not the protection that Koichi gave her. The half-snake sighed as she shook her head and pressed her lips together. Getting up from the warmth of his lap and arms as she sat down at the chair. Creating distance. Maybe this had been a mistake- no. This was her punishment, maybe things weren’t as black and white as she once thought… Though the anger she had felt that day when he had refused to…
“You’re a bad liar, Koko.” she said finally as she grabbed her drink and sipped from it- the other had been right it wasn’t as hot as she liked it to be. “But that's okay,” it wasn’t. She wanted to know- she wished she could know but the other wouldn’t tell her. She wondered who knew- thinking of imaginary men and women who were in his arms at night who shared bed and laughter with the other now that Belle-Lilith didn’t share anything with him anymore.
“—So what kind of medicine do you think I should add” she asked, trying to change the subject. Going into this now would be another big fight. That was how it felt like- she didn’t want to fight. not when her heart and soul were so in turmoil.

SHe saw how he reacted to her statement but at this moment she did not think he needed to comment on it (besides Koichi had proven to her that not all healers were good- so not all demons were bad!). She listened to him as he continued though, pouting a little as he sketched a scene with words.
“I am not a child anymore, they don’t have to take care of me.” she argued with him. Though he was right, she would worry if she was here in a war and they came to visit and she hated that he was right. A frown appeared on her face as her eyes shifted slightly- pupils thinning to a slit.
Then he refused to help her and her cheeks reddened in frustration as he was so set in his answer. “That’s mean.” she said to him as she huffed and got up but just walked around in the room frustrated “You’re a mean man.” she added but by the way she plopped down on his lap her words might not have the same impact. Before they friend-broke up she had always been clingy and touchy. “What should we ship them? I can’t send them protection or something. There is nothing I can send them that is as good as sending myself.” she argued with him. “They would never leave a warzone, you know that.” She looked at him as she felt the warmth of his body and it was nice, shifting a little closer to him.
“Are you okay?” she asked eventually as she looked at the other. “No one can know your real name, you don’t want me to come over to your place and even if we fought I would have thought I could find you in those years but you disappeared until we ran into each other in the canned fruits section of Allie’s supermarket.”

She looked up- her eyes large and more red now as he spoke and sniffled. “Not all of them are bad.” she offered in a small voice as if that was the point right now. She leaned into his touch and she wanted so badly to just forget everything bad and have him close to her again as they once had been. It was so seductive: the thought of having him close again.
“What use is being safe when those I love aren’t safe.” she looked up at him and bit her bottom lip. “I finally know that you are okay again and don’t have to worry about that anymore and now my parents are in danger.” she admitted, it had been a constant worry to her even when she rejected him and she had been the one pushing him away.
What he had done- it had been unforgivable. Or was it? She did not think she would ever fully figure it out (especially not with the limited knowledge that she had). “Who would take over my job if I left…” she pondered out loud- obviously still debating on going.
“Could you?”

She had obviously been crying- this time not because of Koichi (progress). The cake was a good move from the other since it distracted her right away to grab plates and little silver forks with clay toads on the tops of them as decoration. Some of the paint had peeled off from the little figurines. Well-loved items for sure.
“What have you been doing as work?” she asked, putting down her drink and preparing the cake, handing him one of the plates and the toad-fork that still looked the best out of the two. She did not know what he was up to- surely he wasn’t a healer. A small spot of pain flashed through her at that thought and she felt the betrayal flood through her again. It would never truly leave her, or so she thought now.
Do you want us to talk…
“…” she looked at him for a moment and then nodded. Not wanting to talk about them since this was just a break from their break. As long as Koichi wouldn’t explain why…
Wrong train of thought- she looked over to the letter on her bed and then to Koichi. “I got news from mom and dad.” she announced, it shouldn't be a heavy statement since she had a good relationship with her parents. “Apparently some of the arachnids survived and there is a terrorist group… the war isn’t over like we thought.” she teared up as she held onto her cup- nearly spilling the coffee since she shook. It was terrifying to know that the war that had devastated her realm wasn’t over after all. “They banned me from visiting the realm and they’re not in Japan but in the realm- so I can’t see them and I can’t visit home.” she whispered and her voice was weak.
“At least not until they know how bad it is, there have been two attacks already- one on a children’s hospital.”

After that strange night at the motel, Koichi had quite literally gone back to his usual routine and attempted to forget all about it. Half of it he didn’t regret and the other half he did, like how he had gotten a little too heated and made Belle-Lilith cry. Although he was pretty good at sitting with his emotions and letting them come and go, something about the whole ordeal had made him uncomfortable in a way that he simply wanted to deal with his job, grab his coffee on the way home, do his routine at home, and repeat that until he got a message from someone.
His phone didn’t vibrate often. He still only had a few numbers on it and he rarely texted or called those few even if he was a people person. When he checked the message, he bit down on his lower lip, thinking on it for a minute before he replied.
He had left his old phone and sim card in Japan along with the number he’d had. It was safer that way, not having the same number he used to in case it would get traced. Someone there had a few of his things on purpose, for these kinds of moments when someone was asking about him or reaching out to him and he needed to know. It was usually something more pressing than this though.
Koichi copied the number to his burner phone and if she hadn’t been suspicious that he was some kind of a drug lord by now, she would be in just about a minute.
[ text - Lilybell ]: Hi, it’s Koichi. I don’t actually actively use my old number anymore
[ text - Lilybell ]: how about we meet at your place?
Although writing a message with an old phone took forever Koichi didn’t mind, patient as ever. He had thought this through after the first time he bumped into her again; it was too great of a risk to bring her home with him because the two had been friends for so long that the mafia knew her face even if they had never been in direct contact with her. If they were seen together by the wrong people it was easier to connect the dots than if they were random people on the streets by themselves.
[text to ☆ Koko (ಥ﹏ಥ): oh okay u should give me ur new number!!!
[text to ☆ Koko (ಥ﹏ಥ): Okay!
She did wonder about the other’s apartment and why she wasn’t being invited but it was okay. Belle-Lilith rushed home. She wanted to be home before Koichi was there, needing to clean some things and she quickly had ran over and now (slightly out of breath). Quickly grabbing some clothes from the ground and putting them in the laundry bin and throwing away the empty take-out boxes from the night before and stuffing them in the trashbin. Hopefully, Koichi wouldn’t cosplay as a trash panda and try to look in her trash.
So she waited for the other to arrive and then opened the door and let him in. It was an awkward first minute before she cleared her throat “Want something to drink? Coffee?” she went to make coffee in the kitchen as she regretted inviting the other over, it was weird now. After the motel and after everything. She looked at Koichi sitting in her living room and it felt right- but also very very wrong.
What a mess, she came back with coffee (whether Koichi had requested some or not). “Here you go,” she said as she put it in front of the other and then sat on the chair closest to Koichi as she held her own warm drink in her hands and stared at it.
“So…. how have you been?” she asked as she sipped from her coffee and eyed Koichi from behind her cup. A little nervous.

The crescendo of the piano in the plaza was beautiful and Belle lost herself in the music for a moment. Eyes closed and her heart full. She sighed as she got up from her seat on the stone planters- the rims thick enough to sit on. In her leather pouch she had a letter with thick, old-smelling paper. It wasn’t an old letter but everything from her home realm smelled that way. It was the scent of war that lingered even now. When she had gotten the letter she had been happy to open it- not considering the plethora of reasons why her parents would message her (though she assumed it was her mother who would use the old paper, her father would have bought some new stationery in one of the shops in Japan).
The letter had not only been heavy in physical weight but she also thought of it as heavy in mental weight. Indeed, she had opened it and read the letter a few times before pushing it deep in her bag and going out. Not wanting to deal with the emotions that she felt and she considered going to her dearest Allie- but he wouldn’t be able to understand. Not having the proper context of the world and how people functioned. Oh, she knew he would soothe her, and try to be there for her but he wouldn't truly understand… She did not want to bother Master Jung with it either, the kind-hearted man too busy and probably having enough to do with having three lovers that all demanded his attention.
No, there was someone else she wanted to see but ever since the storm they had not spoken. Her brows furrowed as she realised she couldn’t even see him if she wanted to- his living quarters unknown to her. She was stumped.
Putting aside pride the snake pulled out her smartphone and flipped it open, the little frog charm dangling from the device. She hoped he still had his old phone number.
[text to ☆ Koko (ಥ﹏ಥ): ya- where do you live these days? [text to ☆ Koko (ಥ﹏ಥ): I need another break. [text to ☆ Koko (ಥ﹏ಥ): I can bring food to make it worth your while.
