TRC keeps trending randomly and every time I get my hopes up that it's because an anime reboot has been announced, only to be disappointed 😔

You're right, that does sound bad.
Absolutely fascinating that the powers of the feathers collecting together is making Sakura glow like that, like she's evolving or transforming. Except she's not even in there really, which is still awful.
Tumblr media
OHO HERE WE GO.
Honestly the tension behind all this is pulled off REALLY well. They really make it LOOK like there IS enough power built up here in Sakura to pull that off. Especially when it essentially comes down to a power that relies upon the cumulative experiences of everything the readers have gone through to get to this point, which is a lot, and means that it's the reader's memories themselves that make this all the more powerful of a moment.
IT'S NEAT.
AND ALSO - ELDRITCH HORROR SAKURA? THE WINGS UNFOLDING WITH SO MUCH POWER THAT SAKURA IS A FORCE WITH ENOUGH SHEER POWER TO RIP APART THE FABRIC OF THE UNIVERSE?
PEAK.
And all in the service of wanting to bring people back to life.
Which, in hindsight, makes it really really funny that the Beetrain anime did their own plot so badly that it broke the purpose of the entire story to begin with, but oh well!
ALSO I'M HAVING A MOMENT OF SUDDEN CLARITY. In the cover for Chapitre 212 I was talking about how there were 14 little water droplets causing ripples that we could see, and how that was kind of the same number of worlds we visited. I never thought about it before but SAKURA'S WINGS ALSO HAVE 14 STRANDS IN THEM.
Tumblr media
AND LIKE it's not about the number of physical feathers, because there were a bunch more of those, but Evil Wolverine's plan hinges on travelling to a number of Worlds specifically - and we went to 14 of them. And there are 14 parts to Sakura's wings. So it was always 14! They showed it to us all along! It was a concrete plan!
At least from a planning perspective anyway! I don't think it's a solid RULE that there were only 14 worlds they went to, since it's left pretty open for them to have visited other worlds inbetween and off screen and even some of the canonical worlds we went to were 2 worlds in one, but still! I just think it's neat! 14 clear arcs, 14 main worlds, and 14 pieces of the wings that will destroy the universe as we know it.

hey mara, what are your top 5 anime? and top 5 VNs?
hey, anonymous;
Tumblr media
this isn:t really ordered in any hierarchy and i:ll probably go over five for anime, but these are series i really enjoy, mean a lot to me, and like to rewatch:
boogiepop phantom, boogiepop and others, baccano (really anything by that author i:ll probably love but baccano is my favorite), .hack//sign, .hack//dusk (this one is kinda awful but it means a lot to me), really anything .hack//, the saki series; love akagi (anything by fkmt but the first few episodes of akagi has a great vibe); a big part of me wants to say akiba maid war and akudama drive (the emotional highs for both are so good, & both have some of the best final episodes out of everything listed); a small part of me wants to say stuff like: naruto, dragon ball, hunter x hunter, nabari, majin neuro, trigun -- they:re not series that immediately jumps out as me as "all time favorites" but in the right mood i /love/ thinking about them (i:d always used to daydream about being in the naruto setting and my perfect naruto MMO where you:d be born in the world to a random village -- i wanted to be mist or sound); may-be at the lowest i:d put FLCL, i love FLCL but it:s lke .hack//dusk where it was just time+place; kind of want to say madlax too, honestly, but it:s such a slow show it:d be a struggle to rewatch it (the beetrain phenomenon of making glacial-paced shows carried entirely by scenes of two characters talking), but it:s great
VNs i don:t think i:ve played enough to really have much of a list, but tsui no sora remake / subahibi would be on it; everything team_cpu made would be on it (mostly archangel:nemesis but all of her works seem connected to me, & even despite whatever friction is/was between us she:ll always be a top-tier writer and artist to me that inspires me); i really love 2236 AD but (i always describe it this way) it:s an extremely mid game, with an insanely good opening, /but/ as an entire experience it is perfect, and it is perfect because it is extremely mid (if it were better, and better written, it wouldn:t have as much of an impact at the end -- it has one of the best ending sequences in anything i:ve ever read; here watch the trailer); maybe true remembrance (just a fun sleepy read, enjoyed my time with it); maybe soundless (kinda trauma-porn which i don:t love, but the author did such a good job with the setting that i just enjoyed my entire time spent with it); maybe walk in the sun (a vncup entry! i:ve replayed it ~4 times and it:s just an extremely solid short read that i loved); i haven:t played it in awhile but i remember loving sengoku rance, and i love the alicesoft:s settings (toushin toshi is amazing imo & all the lore in rance is just so much fun); love the narcissu series too (especially 2 & the neet-hiki one) but i try to stay away from reading sad stuff lately;
that:s all that comes to mind; ok thank you anonymous take care.

(realizing tsubasa chronicle music feels like comfort to me not only because of nostalgia but also a sense of fulfillment, because i didn’t actually have access to trc when i was a kid: i fell in love when i read the first chapter demo’d in one of the many vietnamese otaku magazines that would go out of business, but manga collection hadn’t occurred to me then; my closest access was the beetrain anime on animax but i didn’t speak english to know the dialogues and airing schedule. and somehow regardless of all this, unlike other childhood things forgotten because of inaccesibility, i still held onto the love with bits and pieces i got by pure chance, unfinished vietnamese scanlations and forum posts and a few fanfictions on now defunct websites. unlike most things in my life this wasn’t even a financial difficulty but just circumstance that kept me in arm’s reach, until i was in my 20s and could buy the whole series barring 2 volumes, and it felt like. genuinely being in a better place and having some control in my life) hhuh

Don’t know if you saw yet but looks like Tokyo Babylon anime got cancelled because GoHands was caught plagiarizing outfits and other mispractices and CLAMP now is working with a new studio to restart everything because of mistrust
I did see that! And as I said on twitter:
Finally, someone canceled Seishirou.

Favorite anime of all time?
I’m gonna say NOIR. I mean all BeeTrain animes are great, but that was the first in the girls-with-guns series and I have fond memories of it. I still have Mireille boots somewhere, just never got around to doing the cosplay.

I like women with horns. I like voluptuous and aggressive Onee-san characters. So, I should like Vermeil in Gold a bit more, even as a generic fanservice anime.
 Unfortunately, Vermeil the demon’s character design is too squishy, and her theoretically perfect design too plain. She has one very plain outfit and her movements/expressions/camera angles really don’t play up her sex appeal so much. There isn’t the firm focus on female physicality and feeling seen on Mysteria Friends, Danmachi, Dragon Maid, Beetrain Trilogy and others; it seems a bit lacklustre.
You say this may be a serious fantasy adventure, not ecchi at all? Then I have a bridge to sell you. The story seems surprisingly alright, but generic, and it seems the far more powerful Vermeil will just be getting into scrapes that Whitey has to rescue her from, and loosing her aggression as easily as her horns, to become an acceptable romantic lead. Oh well, only half-way through.

During my nap today I had a dream that they announced a new anime series for TRC/TWC. I was screaming in excitement and everything when it was announced. And then I woke up.
Tumblr media
Now let’s all pray and hope that this was a prophetic dream and this actually happens :’)
