-ˋˏ I CHOOSE YOU! ˎˊ
SYNOPSIS. new year, new you, new school. you’re determined to be the greatest trainer in history, and it starts at a pokemon academy. you hope to finish your studies free of drama, if you can ignore the noise of many battles within the student body to see who will come on top.
CHARACTERS. sakura haruka, suo hayato, nirei akihiko, umemiya hajime, hiragi toma, tsubakino tasuku, kaji ren, tomiyama choji, togame jo
CONTENT. gn!reader. pokemon au. comedy, fluff. 0.8k wc. inspired by pokemon scarlet and violet and its teal mask dlc. everyone goes to legit school here, whoa. reader sometimes ditches class to explore the wild. electrocution, one bad pun intended (kaji). they/them pronouns for tsubaki.
VERA. yelling with @stunie about pokemon was really fun so why not combine the best of both worlds. for zevie, my fellow pokemon (mystery dungeon) enthusiast!
𝄞༉‧₊˚. SAKURA HARUKA
sakura wants to be the best in the world through unconventional means, to battle the strongest right away. you’ve seen how he fought off a group of students who were ridiculing you earlier, but there’s no way someone could become a trainer with punches and kicks and without a pokemon. by chance, a sprigatito steals the pastry he was holding to eat and sends him on a wild goose chase. those two are a lovely pair, when it’s time for it to stop eating his food and he stops yelling at it for being a “brat”.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. SUO HAYATO
if you need a teacher for your team on how to behave on the battlefield, suo is at the yard meditating with his mienfoo. it’s impressive how he’s by your stress filling their air like smokescreen. your pokemon partner suddenly stops listening to your commands, and now your wallet is dry. he says it's the rebellious teen phase, something he can easily deal with. whatever he did to make your pokemon shudder when he calls on it for lessons with mienfoo as his assistant, you dare not to pry.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. NIREI AKIHIKO
midterm season is around the corner, what you dread the most this year. luckily you have nirei, a walking encyclopedia that is very convenient to have as a study buddy and useful to a certain someone who skips classes to explore the wild. his abra will teleport you back on campus whenever you try to ditch. the one day you venture farther, a very strong pokemon has you running for your life. abra has the ability to sense danger so you manage to return safely, but not safe from his disappointment.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. UMEMIYA HAJIME
major concerns of newbies are what type of supplies to stock up on and how to train pokemon teams efficiently. your problem is money, due to spending too much and losing too much against people. umemiya is an expert in said concerns, but his togekiss handles his budget to curb his spending impulses. for someone who advertised himself as dependable, you definitely can’t depend on him for monetary matters. even togekiss judges him for buying fake plants for his fake garden.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. HIRAGI TOMA
the academy is a scary place. there are strong and promising trainers in the making, and a tournament is a great start to see what they’re worth. competition drives everyone nuts, tailing down anyone such as yourself in their line of sight to battle. hiragi shoos them away, swearing he’ll be like his annihilape if they keep this up. he mistakes you as one with the crowd because you’re staring at him for so long, his pokemon readies its rage fist to send you flying, stressing him out even more.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. TSUBAKINO TASUKU
as the end of the school term draws near, students become anxious. fear not, tsubaki knows how to turn the doom and gloom around - throwing a party. their checklist becomes so long they need a helping hand. their gardevoir chooses you through its future sight, determining that you’re good luck. while shopping with your upperclassman, there’s an ongoing sale for clothes they’ve been waiting for since forever. they’re so excited that they drag you along and practically buy out the whole boutique.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. KAJI REN
the stock of candies at the campus store is somehow almost empty every time you check it out. a salesclerk then tells you that they never heard of a luxio with a sweet tooth. the pokemon belongs to a student who wears headphones and a lollipop in his mouth, kaji. you and your partner look at each other with the same plan: ditch class to buy out the entire candy section before those two can. you and him grab a candy bag in sync, but luxio electrocutes you as he and your pokemon stare in shock.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. TOMIYAMA CHOJI
photography in the wilderness for a project is, in reality, easier said than done. your pictures come out blurry as many wild pokemon have tried to break your phone. just as things can’t get any worse, you get whacked by an ambipom from its double hit. your hands feel light, and you look at it with your device. its trainer tomiyama proposes to retake your photos as compensation. but instead of you in there, the entire gallery is full of his selfies. seems like this project will take forever to finish.
𝄞༉‧₊˚. TOGAME JO
you can’t afford to be late for school… again. rushing to campus on your bike, you almost crash into a dozing snorlax that is blocking your usual route. you and your pokemon have done what you can to wake it up, and it turns into a stream of light which went inside a pokeball belonging to an upperclassman. togame was napping at the side of the road, and now he is late going to school like you are. as he’s about to ask you for a ride, you completely vanish, pedaling furiously like your life depends on it.

My Aphverse Job Headcanons!!!
I shared this on stars discord but you all can have it now cause it was a hit there lmfao
Here are my job ideas for mystreet in my brain except it's still HEAVILY based off of mcd like my street should have been.
Feel free to ask for clarification id be happy to give.
Aphmau: Carpenter
Garroth: his job journey has been complicated (and hopefully the only one I'm gonna go this in detail on) because he spent his entire life not even having to consider what he was going to do because well... from birth he was set to take over Gartes position as soon as he decided to retire. Garte will just keep paying for his life until that point, and it's not until like... more than halfway through him working to get the necessary degrees for something he has no passion for and is learning that he kinda hates doing that he realizes he DOES NOT want to do that, the basically isolating hours and work that just frustrates him but he's in to deep.. he finishes his degrees but Garte ever the workaholic still has no plan to retire so garroth is just left coasting for a while but he's so social and everyone around him had full time jobs and he gets one literally to just have something to do cause he is going stir crazy, probably some kind of security detail for like big public events just waiting to be called away to take over his dad's company, of course he eventually learns that he's allowed to choose a job for himself but mostly through like... talking to his friends, and I can really see him experimenting for a while before he lands on *drum roll* firefighting! But he still hasn't told his dad he's not taking over the company, he's incredibly terrified of that conversation and is just hoping Garte will die before retiring zane would probably love to take it over anyway, so who Is garroth really hurting?
Laurence:controversial, mayhaps but I see him being a barista at like a genuine Italian mom and pop Cafe, he's probably the Rank just below owner to lmfaoo they want to give it to him when they retire lol.
Dante: probably a personal trainer lol.
Katelyn boxing instructor probably rivals with Nicole.
Nana: Probably runs and owns a bakery.
Zane: honestly probably unemployed. The only job he really wants is his dad's, he eventually becomes the vice president because his dad is still ceo but he gets REALLY moody about it for a while because his garroth is still the planned heir (he gets the job in the end when Garte probably forcefully is retired and garroth won't take up the mantle)
Vlayd: when he was backpacking around the world he probably was making vlogs and content about it, not really as a job but just because but he got popular so he made decent money. Now he's probably like a meditation teacher or smthn like that lol work he can do while going anywhere he wants.
Cadenza: Has her own fashion line that is wildly gaining popularity
Gene: Nightclub owner, he really only does well in position where he's in charge.
Zenix: Bar work / Security at the night club, he likes how there's constant stimulation, and how he gets a. Excuse to rough troublemakers up.
Sasha: Dj at the nightclub. She likes how she gets to control the mood in the club ans can see pretty much everything.
Travis: has a position in his fathers company. He hates it but like Garroth it's what he was raised to do and he was given a job in the company immeaditly instead of just waiting until he got to run it.
Zoey: was a very influential chemist, but was let go due to some corruption in the higher ups and her speaking against it. She works in childcare now mostly as a hobby.
Blaze: Same as Dante but he's wildly more popular
Aaron: would have been in a situation similar to Travis and Garroth, except he basically went off the grid as soon as he was old enough his parents couldn't stop him, he became a firewatcher (people in watch towers in national parks) that's how he met his wife, who sadly passes in childbirth (that's right single dad Aaron in this because I can and I said so. I said it was heavily based on not 100% accurate) he moved back into the city cause, well... the woods are no place to raise a baby. He probably does freelance remote computer work now
Daniel: I don't think he shows up in mcd so it's based on pdh lol, I have no reasoning for this but I love the idea of him as a daycare teacher. Apron and everything.
Jeffory: works in Gartes company. He's not that into it, but it pays well enough that he can basically work part time to spend more time with Abby and still have a fairly cushy life with her.
Dottie: probably one of Kayelyns employees lol.
Nicole: has her own Boxing business not in on the rivalry idea, thinks they should team up lmfao.
Lucinda: Owns a witchy shop lol, basic I know but come on. Crystals, tarot, incense, the whole nine yards. She's also a nepo baby lol, she does NOT have to run this shop her dad would pay for her whole life but Lucinda enjoys workings and being self sufficient.
Brendan: works for Aphmau as a Carpenter.
Emmalyn: Librarian. Yeah i... yeah lol
Kiki: Runs a animal sanctuary. For both exotic and typical animals, teams up with the bakery and Cafe to host mass adoption events for her rehabilitated animals.
(And that's all the people I can remember to add rn whoops)

Rishikesh, India, often termed as the "Yoga Capital of the World," has been a haven for the yoga aspirant to deepen his or her practice and follow a teacher training course in yoga. This small town residing in the foothills of the great Himalayas, with its serene environment, perfectly blends ancient Hatha Yoga and modern Ashtanga yoga, the foundation of modern practice.
Why do you choose Rishikesh to undertake yoga teacher training? Rishikesh is a perfect destination for whoever seeks an atmosphere of tranquility, old temples, and spirituality, thus bringing one close to the profound teachings of yoga. Home to many schools of yoga, it provides specific courses for training as teachers in Hatha and Ashtanga yoga, of which Shivayogapeeth offers an all-embracing training program that gets easily immersed into authentic learning.
Rishikesh has become one of the hotspots yoga teacher training destinations in the world. The Yoga Alliance estimates that over 10,000 students visit Rishikesh every year to enroll in different yoga teacher training programs. This added demand clearly shows that the heart of global yoga education stays in Rishikesh. What are Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training? Probably the most essential and closest to the roots of the practice are the asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques) with a strong focus on meditation, but it is worth mentioning because Hatha yoga lies at its core. Ashtanga yoga, a system of Yoga developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India is a fast-paced, physically demanding form of yoga where movement is synchronized with the breath.
Both of these yoga systems are guided in depth within the training programs so that students feel well-equipped to teach others without much difficulty. Hatha and Ashtanga yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, lasts about 200 hours with equal thrust put on the theory and its practice. The practices and philosophical knowledge of yoga are refined, made even deeper, and mindfulness is awakened in every movement by these programs.
Advantages of Learning Yoga in Rishikesh Spiritual and Physiological Changes: Rishikesh offers more than just physical practice. It's that environment where the student is able to experience a spiritual awakening leading towards complete individual development. Most students leaving Rishikesh state that their lives were transformed from head-to-toe, body and soul.

This allows them to provide an authentic and deep learning experience. Students at Shivayogapeeth are guided by experienced instructors who have passed down through generations, carrying within them the wisdom and techniques of their parent house.
Cultural Immersion: This training at Rishikesh provides an opportunity for all the students to fully immerse themselves in the culture there, where yoga is not merely a practice but a way of life. You will find yourself immersed in temples and sacred rivers besides the overall energy that cultivates inner peace and growth.
Global Community: Rishikesh is an open town that welcomes students from all parts of the world, thus providing a perfect diverse environment. Yoga teacher training in Rishikesh India allows one to make relationships with others that will last longer as you learn from their experiences and perspectives.
Statistical Overview Popularity of Yoga: The Global Wellness Institute estimates that yoga in 2020 was a global industry that had reached more than $80 billion. India remains to be the heartland for traditional yoga training. Student Population: International students visit Rishikesh in thousands every year. The 2020 report from Yoga Alliance states that Rishikesh lies among the top five destinations around the world for yoga teacher training programs, averaging over 10,000 students each year.
Online Learning: Rishikesh may be full of heritage in the case of yoga training, but the online yoga teacher training too took off. As per Yoga Alliance reports, more than 15% of yoga teacher training programs are online these days, but many still prefer to go "onsite" in Rishikesh. How to Start Your Yoga Teacher Training Venture in Rishikesh When it comes to looking into Hatha and Ashtanga yoga training schools in Rishikesh India, one needs to focus the school on the one's requirements. The programs are relatively structured and flexible; some courses will be very helpful to all beginners but also advanced students.
To add to it, the scenery coupled with the flowing Ganges River, and towering Himalayas background is more than enough reason to deepen your practice. Rishikesh is not a place; it's an experience transforming one's life if already interested in yoga teaching or to enhance practice. The training there is simply unmatched for whichever purpose you're starting out. Conclusion Rishikesh remains the premier destination for any person looking to experience the full extent of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga teacher training. If you are looking forward to going through a transformative experience, then enroll yourself for a program at Shivayogapeeth today.

Explore the Benefits of Pranayama
Does Pranayam really work? What is the science behind Pranayama?
We, being the best yoga teachers in Gurgaon, generally face these questions. We also observed that when students understand the relevance of yoga asanas, they become more conscious, and the results improve.
Let’s understand the meaning of the word Pranayama first. “Prana” means energy, whereas “Yama” means control. And collectively, it means control over the energy. Pranayam is nothing but a technique of breath regulation.
In Pranayam, the person intentionally inhales, holds, and exhales their breath. The whole process is done with consciousness, where the aim is to connect (yog or unite) both body and mind. The duration, frequency, and control - are all significant in Pranayam.
Types of Pranayama Pranayama can be performed in four ways. These are:
Nadishodhana
Ujjayi
Bhramari
Bastrika
You can do Pranayam practice during the asanas or meditation. Either way, the focus is drawn on the breath.
Potential Benefits of Pranayama Experts have closely monitored the benefits of Pranayama. Several international universities and organizations have researched to evaluate the advantages of the body and mind. And on that basis, we can count the benefits of Pranayama practices.
1. Reduction in Stress Levels Many people notice a reduction in stress levels with the regular practice of Pranayama. One of the studies noticed less stress among workers who followed Pranayama practice regularly for four weeks.
2. Improves sleep quality
Pranayama can help people with insomnia. People who have difficulty sleeping can experience better sleep quality. Moreover, studies also claim it can reduce day sleeping, snoring, and sleep apnea.
3. Induces Mindfulness
Pranayama calms the mind, increases awareness, and results in higher mindfulness. Many people experience reduced anxiety, clarity in thoughts, and reduced impulsiveness with regular practice of Pranayama.
4. Regulates Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is dangerous. As mental or physical stress increases, it has a negative effect on blood pressure. As a result, many people have to consume regular pills to regulate blood pressure levels within limits. Here, Pranayama can help people to manage blood pressure. Although it is directly related to stress, as the person starts controlling their breath, their stress and blood flow starts falling normally.
5. Improves Lung Function
Pranayama also helps increase lung capacity. The lungs become healthier and start consuming and holding more air. This way, a person inhales more oxygen. As a result, more air reaches the organs, and their efficiency improves. These organs release more toxins and become healthy with time.
6. Less Food Cravings
As told earlier, control is one of the crucial parts of Pranayama. Reduced cravings, weight reduction, and less irritation are some of the benefits that one can embrace with the regular practice of Pranayama.
Bottom Line The benefits of Pranayamas are well known. However, the right technique also matters. When people don't follow the right approach, they suffer side effects.
But you can save yourself from these mistakes. When the right technique is learned under the guidance of a Yoga Trainer, you can reap the benefits of a lifetime. So, just keep your doubts away and book an appointment with H2 Yoga. Here, we offer the best yoga services that can benefit people of all age groups.

Yoga Teacher Training in Bengaluru: A Path to Personal and Professional Growth
Yoga Teacher Training in Bengaluru: A Path to Personal and Professional Growth
Bengaluru, often dubbed as the Silicon Valley of India, is not just a hub for technology and innovation but also a thriving center for wellness and spiritual practices. Among these practices, yoga holds a special place, blending ancient wisdom with modern-day holistic well-being. For those looking to deepen their personal practice or embark on a professional journey as a yoga instructor, Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Bengaluru offers a transformative experience. This article explores why Bengaluru has become a go-to destination for yoga teacher training and what aspiring teachers can expect from programs offered in the city.
Why Bengaluru for Yoga Teacher Training?
Bengaluru’s unique cultural landscape is a harmonious fusion of traditional and contemporary lifestyles, making it an ideal environment for yoga teacher training.
Here’s why the city stands out:
Rich Yoga Tradition: Karnataka, the state Bengaluru belongs to, has a deep connection with yoga and its historical teachings. Legendary yoga schools, like the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram and Mysore’s Ashtanga Vinyasa lineage, have influenced yoga practices across the world. Bengaluru, being close to these centers of yogic heritage, serves as a bridge between ancient practices and modern techniques.
Access to Renowned Teachers: Bengaluru boasts a community of highly experienced and internationally recognized yoga teachers. Many trainers in the city have studied with masters in India and abroad, allowing them to impart authentic and diverse yogic wisdom.
Diverse YTT Programs: Whether you are drawn to traditional Hatha yoga, dynamic Vinyasa, or meditative Yin yoga, Bengaluru offers a variety of teacher training courses to suit different needs and styles. From intensive 200-hour foundational courses to advanced 500-hour programs, there is something for everyone.
Wellness-Focused Environment: As one of India’s greenest cities, with its numerous parks, lakes, and wellness centers, Bengaluru provides a serene and healthy environment for yoga teacher training. Its moderate climate throughout the year further enhances the experience.
Growing Yoga Community: The city has a large and vibrant yoga community, with many yoga studios, workshops, and wellness retreats that support continuous learning and collaboration. After completing YTT, graduates can easily integrate into the thriving yoga scene.
Types of Yoga Teacher Training Programs in Bengaluru
Yoga Teacher Training in Bengaluru comes in various formats, each catering to different levels of experience and commitment.
The most common YTT courses offered in the city are:
200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training: This foundational course is the entry point for those aspiring to teach yoga. It covers essential topics such as asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control), meditation, anatomy, and philosophy. This program helps students build a strong personal practice and provides the necessary tools to teach yoga with confidence.
300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training: The 300-hour program is designed for those who have already completed a 200-hour YTT and wish to deepen their practice and expand their teaching skills. It includes advanced techniques, in-depth philosophy, and teaching methodology, preparing graduates to teach at a higher level.
500-Hour Comprehensive Yoga Teacher Training: The 500-hour program is an immersive experience that combines both the 200-hour and 300-hour curricula. This extensive training is perfect for those who want to become highly skilled yoga instructors and specialize in areas like therapeutic yoga, prenatal yoga, or yoga for mental health.
Specialized Yoga Teacher Training: Many schools in Bengaluru also offer specialized YTT courses in niche areas such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, or even Yoga Therapy. These specialized courses are ideal for those looking to cater to specific audiences or refine their expertise in a particular style of yoga.
What to Expect from Yoga Teacher Training in Bengaluru
Yoga Teacher Training in Bengaluru is a comprehensive and often life-changing experience. Most YTT programs span from 4 to 8 weeks (depending on whether they are full-time or part-time) and include a combination of theory, practice, and teaching methodology. Here’s a general breakdown of what you can expect:
Daily Practice: Trainees practice yoga daily, including asanas, pranayama, and meditation. This personal practice helps trainees understand the nuances of each posture and develop a deeper connection to their body and mind.
Yoga Philosophy: In-depth study of ancient texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Bhagavad Gita, and Hatha Yoga Pradipika is a key component. This philosophical grounding is essential for understanding the deeper aspects of yoga beyond just physical postures.
Anatomy and Alignment: Understanding human anatomy and physiology is crucial for teaching yoga safely and effectively. Trainees learn how the body moves, the mechanics of postures, and how to modify poses for different students.
Teaching Methodology: YTT programs place significant emphasis on how to teach yoga. This includes learning how to design classes, cue poses, adjust students, and manage diverse class settings.
Self-Reflection and Growth: Beyond the physical and theoretical aspects, YTT encourages self-awareness and personal growth. Trainees are often asked to reflect on their own habits, emotions, and mindset, making the training a holistic journey.
Leading Yoga Schools in Bengaluru
Bengaluru is home to numerous renowned yoga schools that offer high-quality teacher training programs. Some of the most popular ones include:
Yogakulam Academy: Known for its strong focus on Hatha and Vinyasa styles, Yogakulam Academy offers 200-hour and 300-hour teacher training programs that balance traditional teachings with modern approaches.
Samyak Yoga: Located on the outskirts of the city, Samyak Yoga offers immersive YTT programs with a focus on Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga. The natural surroundings add to the peaceful learning experience.
Rishikesh Yogis Yogshala: Though their main center is in Rishikesh, this school offers programs in Bengaluru that emphasize classical yoga teachings with an emphasis on holistic well-being.
Total Yoga: Total Yoga offers YTT programs for beginners and advanced students alike, with a unique blend of traditional yoga and contemporary fitness practices.
Conclusion
Yoga Teacher Training in Bengaluru is not just a professional certification; it’s a profound personal journey. The city’s blend of yogic tradition, access to expert teachers, and growing wellness culture make it an ideal place for deepening your practice and stepping into the role of a yoga instructor. Whether you’re looking to teach yoga or simply elevate your personal practice, YTT in Bengaluru offers a holistic experience that nurtures both body and mind, setting you on a path to long-term growth and fulfillment.

Karma Yoga: A Vehicle for Dharma Training
As I am getting ready to leave Clear Sky Retreat Center after being part of the Karma Yoga team, Cata and Sensei discuss with me some of the biggest challenges to maintaining an ongoing practice of Karma Yoga, or meditation in action through service. Their teaching addresses: Why Do Karma Yoga; Why Do Virtual Karma Yoga; Some Wrong Views people have about Karma Yoga; and What Impediments there are to not do Karma Yoga.
A Little History
Back in the days when the sangha was centered in Japan, the emphasis was on studying, meditating and listening to the teachings. It was more of a yogi tradition. Now that we are located at Clear Sky, it is more of a monastery tradition, or through Planet Dharma, a virtual monastery. For us, the shift from a yogi to a monastic path is also a shift from meditation to Karma Yoga as the primary vehicle for awakening quickly. The teachers emphasize that The More Advanced Path to Awakening is through Karma Yoga. This isn’t an easy transition for some students to make. Sensei says, “the [traditional discourse style] teachings are easier to take than the Karma Yoga because it is obvious if you didn’t do your dishes.”
Doug Sensei uses the teachings of the Dalai Lama as an example. Most people go to listen to the Dalai Lama talk; maybe they read his books. Mostly, people are receiving his wisdom more passively, giving him their attention and perhaps some Dana. Most people cannot unfold tangibly that way. People need to become aware through active teaching in order to make sustainable changes in their being.
How Karma Yoga Works
Just a minor description of how Karma Yoga works, from my perspective through my recent experience: When you are working for the teachers and trainers, mental models, blocks and attitudes arise that get in the way of working effectively for the greater good. While these blocks may arise in meditation, we don’t meditate long enough in our day-to-day lives to necessarily see them. Meanwhile, we can use our work as a source of meditation. In Karma Yoga, the concentration is on working for the greater good. Each work session is dedicated to the unfolding of all beings, and for the benefit of all beings. There is no ownership of the work. It is produced and offered up.
When doing karma yoga, the dull states, bad attitudes, ideas of grandeur, lack of methodical planning, taking on too much, taking on too little, procrastination, etc., become teaching points. It is an opportunity for us to use this uncomfortable spot as a place for liberation. The blocks may be more easily recognizable than when sitting on the cushion because the sangha (spiritual community), trainers, or teachers witness what is happening in your being as well.
Impediments to Karma Yoga
Sensei explains, that the path of Karma Yoga is particularly challenging for Westerners because they tend to be more individually minded. “When they do the work they think of themselves as the owner of the work, rather than realizing that the organization is giving them the opportunity for spiritual development through work.”
This brings us to one of the major incorrect views about Karma Yoga. People make the mistake of thinking that their work is doing the teachers, or the retreat center a favor and that they should be grateful. The student may think of it like volunteering. “While we appreciate what people do, our gratitude,” says Catherine Sensei, “is more like gratitude that the universe functions. Rather, you must see that Karma Yoga is a vehicle for Dharma training”.
The Need for Recognition
Another hindrance to doing Karma Yoga is the need for recognition. If you are on the fast path to awakening, then the teaching changes from seducing and wooing the student to focus on the work you do on yourself. Sensei says, “my teacher ignored me for two years. Do you need to be entertained to do the work? Most people want the feel good vibe, the hit.” Sensei’s teacher ignored him as a way to illustrate just how much his ego wanted ‘recognition’, helping him transcend that form of suffering.
This is not to say that Catherine and Doug Sensei do not appreciate or give recognition for work done. Catherine says it is a regular point of gratitude and acknowledgement, congeniality in recognizing the work that people do. However, she cautions, “it seems to hit a point where that’s not enough for people, like as if we’re just saying it (the gratitude).” It is important, Catherine cautions, to see this as a phase. It is important to know that this can occur and to recognize it as merely a phase, rather than getting discouraged by it and feeling the KY isn’t helping anymore. ‘Forewarned it forearmed, ” she says.
Doug Sensei adds to this, “Any relationship should give you praise or recognition. But in a way, the teacher’s job is to remove you from the need for praise. The spiritual unfolding of the student isn’t dependent on getting what she wants but getting over what she thinks she needs.”
Cata also suggests a self-reflection. “Different people have different paths. Some can keep a connection with the triple gem through their meditation practice. For others, that doesn’t work, and a better way is through karma yoga. They need a person on the other end. Look for that. See which, meditation or karma yoga, gives you what quality of juice.”
