POTO FRANCE SONGS - ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS
Hello all ! @comediesmusicales made a transcription of three songs of POTO France, sung by Bastien Jacquemart and Manon Taris yesterday on a french radio (the post is here). And I offered to translate them into English, so here are they !
Mon Unique Souhait (My Only Wish) - All I Ask Of You
Forget everything about the darkness Which seized your soul Here, nothing can harm you Words only will be able to hug you I will be the sun Who dries your tears Here, forget about the past And let me embrace you
Promise to cradle me with soft pledges Promise forever, I will follow you Promise to forever be by my side Promise me that I forever am Your one and only wish
I will be your light The beacon that guides you Let’s leave to a summer day Nothing will be able to worry you
I would like to escape To a kingdom without him Let’s leave, you’ll guide me Your love will light me up
And promise to be every moment by my side Let’s turn our backs to solitude Promise you’ll want me at your bedside Let’s leave far away, never to go back Christine, that is my only wish
Promise to cradle me with soft pledges Promise forever, I will follow you Give me your days, your nights, your mornings Say, do you love me ? Is it such a secret ? Loving you, that is my only wish
Let’s leave far away, never to go back Loving you, that is my only wish
Pense à Moi - Think of Me
Remember Remember fondly our goodbyes Remember me From time to time within your memory A day will come When life will take you And you will be gone for good I hope that all of our memories Will be with you
This remote tune Which cradled our mornings Will come back to get you sometimes If it finds, then, my love Remember me
Remember the flowers of our summer Don’t let regrets take it from you
Remember When I was waiting for you, voiceless and resigned Imagine All the efforts given to forget you
Remember I beg of you, remember Wherever you are, whatever happens There will never be a day When I won’t remember
Is this possible ? Is this Christine ? Bravo ! It’s so remote It seems so remote Our love was childish Surely she must have forgotten about me But I remember
Our summers will soon have faded Time will flatten our movements/lovemaking Yet, promise me that you will remember me
Revenez-Moi (Come Back to Me) - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
Little Lotte thought about everything and nothing Her father had promised to send her the Angel of Music Her father had promised Her father had promised
You, my father, my guide, my friend My reason to live You were my only company Why leaving me ?
Come back to me, I need to speak to you Let’s resume like before Is it enough to dream of you To find your arms back ?
Come back to me to tell me About who we used to be Everything is getting blurry when I dream of you I must have lost my way
Stone bells and sculpted angels Hard and austere figures Are not what you should need You were my light
Too many years spent mourning you Why live in the past ?
Come back to me, I need to speak to you I have to tell you goodbye Forgive me, permit me To (?)
No more vain regrets No more bitter thoughts Let’s stop dwelling on faded dreams I bid you farewell I bid you farewell

Is there any audio of the Canada Phantom concert? The trailer said it is in French ("en francais", if I didn't misunderstand). I'd love to listen to Phantom songs sung in French.
I haven’t seen one, but who knows? Something might pop up. And yes, it is in French, using the translation written for the canceled Paris production.
It’s worth pointing out, though, that this isn’t the first time the Paris libretto has been staged as a concert in Canada. One was done back in 2018, and with a pretty similar cast; there’s even a review of it here with some photos. Someone on Tumblr actually saw it and wrote a review of it as well, which you can read here; she also claimed to have gotten an audio of it, but I’m not sure she ever released it and at this point I’m too afraid to ask.
And if you want to hear at least some Phantom songs in French using the Paris libretto, here’s Manon Taris and Bastien Jacquemart (who would have been the understudy Christine and principal Raoul, respectively, in the Paris production) singing ‘Think of Me’, ‘All I Ask of You’, and ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’, and Anne-Marine Suire (who would have been alternate Christine in Paris and was in both of the French concerts) singing ‘WIshing’ as well.

A buncha asks about musicals | @gcneralvaganov
17. Dream cast?
OKAY OKAY SO. So honestly my dream cast like. Probably couldn’t really exist, but I suppose that’s the point of a dream cast? So I suppose this is more of a “these are my favorite actors in the roles” sort of situation. xD Like if these two ever sang “All I Ask of You” together, I could die happy.
Christine -- Amy Manford (runners up Manon Taris, Shoba Narayan)
Not only is Amy just breathtakingly gorgeous (and I am so bi), but what I really love about her Christine is that she manages the lightness without running into manic-pixie-dream-girl territory. She’s adorable, yes, but you also fully believe her strength and steel. And her voice is just gorgeous? Soaring and clear and light.
We never got to see Manon in action because of the fire in the Paris production, but in videos she just looks like she’d be a Christine with such an evident spine of steel, yet with that real gentleness and kindness underneath. Her voice is also super lovely.
(That said. Can we talk about getting Shoba Narayan for Christine on broadway? ‘cause I really do think she could swing it. Like, obviously we haven’t heard her sing anything quite that classical-sounding yet, but I do think she could. And gosh she’d be good.)
Raoul -- Jeremy Hays
Jeremy Hays Is My Favorite Raoul Vocally. Ever. He really manages to pull of that delicate balance of slightly arrogant/presumptous nobleman and young man who’s so dearly in love with Christine. And I love that he has that lower, richer voice that you sometimes get to see in a Raoul. He’s so great!!!
(also shoutout to Bastien Jacquemart who, again, we never really got to see in action, but looked like he’d be an absolute cinnamon roll as Raoul. What a sweetie.)
The Phantom -- enh
I really don’t know. All I ask is more non-white Phantoms, please! It’s about time!!! Maybe Oak Onaodowan when he’s a bit older???
28. Favorite post-canon headcanon?
So there’s the indulgent one, and then there’s a dark one that ties into the indulgent one. My favorite indulgent post-canon headcanon is that Christine and Raoul get married and have like five children. The dark one that ties into that is that it takes Christine months to be able to look into mirrors again, and that Raoul wakes up in the middle of the night sometimes ‘cause he feels like he can’t breathe.
29. Favorite backstory headcanon?
I like the idea that M. Daaé tried to teach Raoul how to play the violin and he was Really Terrible At It.

Hey people. 5 months ago, Oliver Twist le musical ended. It was the most beautiful adventure of my life! Today, I'm here to tell you I'm joining a new project... Guillaume Tell, le musical! I'll play and share the character of Minna with a colleague. Minna is a 18 years old girl like me who is in love with Walter Tell, the son of Guillaume tell, but he is already in love with her big sister -.- and they are already in couple from the very beginning of the story which is very depressing. My colleague and me will also double Cacilia (The big sister of Minna (yes, this one)) and Charlyne (her little sister), in case the original performers get sick or whatever. I'm very lucky to work with many very talented people that I admire like Candice Parise, Bastien Jacquemart, Nuno Resende, Benjamin Maytraud (my baby loooove Walter) or Ana Ka. I wish I could tell you other crazy names of other amazing artists of the show, but they aren't officially announced for now... but soon ;) At the folies bergeres the 17th and 18th of November, and later in tour !

have there been many instances where the same cast (or same principals) was re-hired years after their run ended? obviously thinking about the plight of the 2020 uk tour company, and i only know of the greek production kind of reuniting the 16/17 west end cast
If you mean to actually perform an entire show together (meaning, they don’t just appear at curtain call, they don’t just do a special after-performance), then in general, I want to say it’s pretty rare, and usually done either for special occasions (such as a last performance or an anniversary performance) or for a concert production.
The other times it occurs, it’s almost sheer coincidence that it happens that way, or the actor is just particularly long running (I’m sure Brad Little, Ian Jon Bourg, Michael Shawn Lewis, or Tim Martin Gleason have reunited with several costars just given the way they’ve bounce around productions for decades), because while some actors may return years after their original run (think Marcus Lovett returning as Phantom after almost two decades since his first run), the other actors might be long gone and working on other things.
Anyway, here’s a couple of cases where some principals were reunited:
Alexander Goebel and Luzia Nistler - The original Vienna Phantom and Christine returned for the final show of the Vienna production.
The Toronto cast had an interesting case where they brought back several previous Phantoms, each of whom performed a song, for the show’s ninth anniversary. While for some it had been several years since they were in the show, and was a reunion with Elizabeth DeGrazia, the Christine at the time, it was also very much a one-time thing.
The Russian cast returned in almost its entirety two years after the production closed, but it was for a concert production that took place only over a couple days.
The Greek cast, as you mentioned, reunited Ben Forster, Celinde Schoenmaker, Nadim Naaman, Lara Martins, Sion Lloyd, and Daisy Hulbert, two and a half years after they last worked together in the London production. However, this was for a completely different, non-replica production.
Jonathan Roxmouth and Claire Lyon - The two played together as Phantom and Christine in Manila in 2012, Roxmouth returned to the role over six years after his first run, and Claire Lyon returned four years after her first run, replacing Meghan Picerno. Given the time range and all, this I would chalk up to sheer coincidence.
So in the case of the canceled UK tour, while I’m definitely hoping the production will come back as is, I’m not sure how high the chances are, and the longer the wait, the more likely it is that other shows will need to be moved around and that cast members will move on, meaning they might bring in a whole new cast. It is a pretty unprecedented situation, so I can and am hoping to be very wrong about that, but I think we’ll probably see something more akin to what happened with the Paris production, with various cast members doing their own things or, at best, ending up in different Phantom-related material at different times and locations (e.g. Gardar Thor Cortes went to the LND tour, Anne-Marine Suire did the French concerts in Canada, Manon Taris and Bastien Jacquemart did a small series of performances of a few of the songs before Taris joined the London production, etc.).
