I was brought up outside of my native state too, so I guess I can understand your dilemma. But I think it's not your bro's fault. English comes naturally to your brother, just like Hindi comes naturally to you.

I myself grew up in Nagaland, where the official language is English and almost everything is done in this language, so my Bangla has been pretty weak to begin with. However, I did manage to teach myself to read and write the script when I was around 13 or something (yk when puberty hit and so did identity crisis lol). English still remains my primary language and I don't see any reason to change that.

Your brother will probably realise the value of heritage someday and then take the initiative on his own to reconnect with his roots.

As for eating prasaad with a fork, I doubt the devas will mind hahaha😅

BTW lately I've been trying to learn Odia too (currently studying in Bhubaneswar and learning the local language helps, also my granny's side of the family speaks Medinipuria Odia so kind of for heritage reasons too) and this playlist has been really helpful in familiarising myself with the Odia barnamala, you might like checking it out:
