196X William Afton met Clara at the Springdale theater. She was a ballet professional and gave one of her beautiful performances on a winter night.

Clara was from New Harmony, the daughter of a carpenter and a seamstress. Martha Wright's (Emily) best friend since she was very young. William appreciated sophistication and art.

He traveled from New Harmony to Springdale to see the theater. There he saw her dance, enchanted. Afton was the kind of arrogant man who wouldn't be ashamed to ask the dancer out on a date and have a drink.

William looked like a rich young man. It was easy for him to tell several stories about a life he wanted to have, to try to win his girl. His stories were as if he were a successful, bachelor looking for a beautiful woman.

But his reality was more like a foreigner who works in different restaurants to try to complete the studies he didn't finish in his country.

Of course, after their wedding (approximately a year after they met) all the lies were revealed, which led to the first arguments in the relationship.
