I consider myself on the average to slightly higher range of literacy, but if I'm sleepy or distracted typos will occur lol.

It was a warm summer day, the sunlight peeked through the thick forest trees while the cooling wind softly blew, making the trees' limbs move like they were waving hello. A group of unlikely comrades had set up camp in the dense forest, hoping to rest their heads and get something in their bellies. But something was.. Off to say the least.

Most the camp was out looking for food and drink, the only three remaining at the camp were a drow wizard, Gale and Halsin.

Gale, however, had gotten bored and decided to take a nap, not noticing the mushrooms that started to sprout near his face. Still peacefully but Scratch noticed, the dog ran over. Pawing at the mushroom a little before barking at it.

Three Drows Walk Into a Dungeon

The heavy iron door of the Moonrise prison cell creaked open, and two figures were unceremoniously shoved inside. Nyssala and Ilya stumbled forward, nearly losing their balance.

As the door slammed shut behind them, their eyes adjusted to the darkness. The cell was dank and musty, with moss-covered stone walls and a single stone bench against one side. But it wasn't the dismal surroundings that made their hearts skip a beat. In the far corner, obscured by shadows, stood a familiar figure. Minthara, the drow they had once crossed paths with, glared at them with burning intensity. Her silver hair was disheveled, and her once-pristine armor was now scuffed and dirty. But her eyes... her eyes held a feral rage that made both Nyssala and Ilya take an involuntary step back.

"You..." Minthara's voice was low and dangerous, dripping with venom. Her body tensed like a coiled spring, ready to pounce at any moment. Her face contorted into a mask of pure hatred, lips curled back in a snarl.

"Nononono, wait!" Nyssala squeaked, ducking behind Ilya in a desperate attempt to shield herself. “We can explain!”

Ilya, equally panicked, tried to step behind Nyssala, resulting in an awkward dance as they both attempted to use the other as a human shield.

They pressed themselves against the opposite wall, as far from Minthara as the small cell would allow. Ilya, always quick with words, tried to diffuse the situation. "Look, I know you're pissed because we kinda ruined your plans and all, but we're on the same boat now!" Their voice cracked slightly, betraying their nervousness.

Minthara's eyes narrowed, unconvinced. She took a menacing step forward, causing both Nyssala and Ilya to flinch.

“We're so, so, sooooo sorry about that!" Nyssala chimed in, her words tumbling out in a rush. “But in our defense, I tried to tell you there was no one there anymore!”

“Yeah,” Ilya added quickly, “The druids attacked the tieflings, the tieflings didn't trust us because we're drow…”

“Things got a little out of hand, right?” Nyssala offered a weak smile that quickly faltered under Minthara's intense gaze.

“Silence!” the paladin commanded, dismissing their feeble attempts at reconciliation with a sharp gesture. Her posture remained rigid, radiating barely contained fury. "Why have you come to Moonrise?" she demanded, her voice sharp enough to cut through steel.

Nyssala, in a moment of misplaced enthusiasm, chirped, "We're here to save you!"

The absurdity of the statement hung in the air for a moment. Minthara's eyes swept over their disheveled appearances, taking in their current predicament. A humorless smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth as she replied sarcastically, "And you're doing a marvelous job, I see."

The tension in the cell was palpable as Nyssala and Ilya exchanged worried glances, their eyes wide with a mix of fear and desperate hope.

Ilya, their face a mask of forced confidence barely concealing their nervousness, cleared his throat. "Ah, well, there have been some complications…" they said sheepishly, their voice trailing off as they felt the weight of Minthara's scrutinizing gaze. A flicker of determination sparked in their eyes as they added, with a hint of bravado, "But don't worry, I have a plan."

Nyssala's expression shifted from worry to exasperation, her brow furrowing as she recalled past misadventures. With a mix of frustration and concern in her voice, she intervened, "Your last plan started a war between tree-huggers and refugees." Her tone softened slightly, tinged with a plea for reason. "Let me handle it this time, okay, honey?"

Ilya's face flushed with indignation, their pride clearly wounded. "Hah! What are you gonna do?” They retorted with a sarcastic laugh, “Seduce a guard?"

As if struck by sudden inspiration, Nyssala's expression brightened, a reckless gleam entering her eyes. "Why not? It could actually work!”

A mischievous glint appeared in Ilya's eyes as they added, "Sure, because it worked wonders when you tried that with Z'rell…”

The mention of Z'rell caused Minthara's face to contort into a peculiar mixture of confusion, astonishment, and disgust. Her voice, usually cold and controlled, wavered slightly as she asked, "You… tried to seduce Z'rell?"

Nyssala's cheeks darkened with embarrassment, her eyes darting away from Minthara's incredulous stare. "I was trying to convince her to release you!" She pouted, her voice a mix of defensiveness and determination, “But yeah, I fucked my way into this situation, I can fuck my way out!”

A moment of stunned silence followed, broken only when Ilya's barely restrained laugh echoed in the cell, while Minthara's face cycled through a range of emotions – from shock to disbelief, and finally settling on a mix of disgust and exasperation. The paladin sighed, pressing the bridge of her nose between her fingers. "Gods, at least let them kill me quickly," she muttered, her voice heavy with disdain.

intro to the au, forewarning i haven't done much research, and my first playthrough of the game isn't done yet (I AM in act three tho I swear 2/3rds of the three guys r dealt with and so is cazador.) keep in mind i have no idea what i'm doing.

the mindflayer stuff is like. an experimental implant they all dubiously agreed to without all the info. extra enhancements (like the other tadpoles in game) are like drugs, and they appear once weekly at everyone's doors whether they want it or not. initial implant stabilizes Karlach's engine, helps with Astarion's vampire stuff, etc. etc. and the extras just feel good to use, it's addictive.

all of them are in a support group together meant to encourage them to stay clean from the extra tadpoles. time they've spent with the group varies.

there WILL be more detailed posts for them later, i have a lot of thoughts on Karlach and Wyll especially. implied/possible shadowzel and wyllstarion. my tav will be present, this is very self indulgent and i am in lesbians with Karlach.

Just gonna throw out my thoughts on spoilers below the cut in reference to THAT Veilguard news today

I genuinely believe this is actually a good thing. Hot take, I know. But you know what? I don't think Bioware could ever satisfy the desires of every player. I would much rather have my headcanons for my Hero of Fereldan than to watch them appear in another game COMPLETELY different than how they were in DAO. And, I don't mean from how I headcanon them, I mean from the way they were literally portrayed in that game.

Take a look at Hawke. Not how I played them in DA2. Now look and the Inquisitor. Bioware is already forcing them to have a certain outlook that could be completely opposed to how they were played. Again, not how they were headcanoned, but literally portrayed in game. With the choices Bioware gave.

Do y'all genuinely think that "did you vow to save or stop Solas?" is gonna cover the NUMEROUS ways you could build a relationship with him in DAI? Those personal bits that you were given to rp and shape your character, those things that were literally IN THAT GAME, will be treated as if they didn't matter in order for the team to write your character how they think is most interesting. And it might just be me, but having your character the way you want them is one of the most important parts of these games, so watching them be taken and made to be something unrecognizable even from the choices you had them make in the game itself is... Unappealing to me.

Am I happy the reactivity from past games has been chopped down to three choices? No. Do I wish there was more? Yes. But if condensed reactivity to choices made in the other games means there can be more reactivity for the choices I make in this one? Fine. It is 100% a compromise, but it's a compromise I'm personally willing to make.

So yes, ultimately, I can work with this. Baldurs Gate 3 canonized a great deal from the first two games, and for the people that started with BG3, that means nothing. But for me? Someone who played the first two games that spent hours shaping the narrative of the game and building my character? Watching none of that matter as they parade around Abel fucking Adrian as the Bhaalspawn was the single most enraging thing I've experienced in a game. So Dragon Age not referencing stuff out of respect for my choices feels like a win, even if I wish there was more reactivity to old choices. I promise you all, this could be so, so much worse. I've literally seen it happen. Baldurs Gate was the original Dragon Age. I can tell you right now that if you were presented with the options of having Bioware not referencing your choices or a canon white male Cousland hero of Fereldan, you would take the former.

And this definitely is not intended to tell you you can't be upset about this or to act as a shield between you and a corporation. I'll take this because I genuinely do not trust Bioware to handle the Hero of Fereldan. But I got to have the alternative in bg3, and this may not be great, but oh my god it is so much better by comparison. After the way that game handled the Bhaalspawn, Jaheira, Viconia, and God forbid Sarevok... Yah. I'll take this any day. Seriously. Google any of those characters and look what Larian did to them in bg3. I will take this over that any day.

Alright! It is finally time to face the Elder Brain and end this run. For a little disclaimer, I did complete this run just a few days before Patch 7. I just have posting paralysis and shit sits in my drafts forever before I post things.

Shadowheart tried to dominate the Elder Brain. But, her plan was an abysmal failure.

And doomsday has arrived for the city of Baldur's Gate.

Pro tip: before walking into the apocalypse, make sure your pet illithid is well fed. Locally sourced brains are the preferred nutrition, but store bought is fine.

Despite the apocalyptic scenario she finds herself in, Minthara is enjoying herself and having a grand old time. Definitely the kind of person who thrives in chaos and is her most calm when shit hits the fan.

At the beginning of this all, Shadowheart was alone, trying to navigate the dangers by herself. She felt that she did not need any allies as they would be nothing but liabilities. But Minthara was the one who, ironically, pulled her out of the darkness and gave her the push she needed to step away from Shar. She never could have made it this far without her.

A failed Sharran, a drow, and an illithid walk into a bar...

Now this is what I call some quality gameplay! No one can attack you if they can't see you. And even if they could see you, you've evoked the "you can't touch me" rules!

In a final act of desperation, the nether brain pleads for its life, trying to entice Shadowheart into becoming Absolute. Of course, Minthara wants Shadowheart to take the brain and they can rule the world as gods. Sadly, Shadowheart has turned into a helpless do-gooder and destroyed the brain. Lame.

Yay! They saved the city and Minthara unintentionally did a good thing! Now, she wants to get shitfaced so she can forget the awful experience of being a hero against her will.

So, Shadowheart sleeps and Minthara trances, right? Meaning Minthara wakes up long before Shadowheart does. Therefore, Minthara has spent at least 4 hours just sitting here, staring at Shadowheart and waiting for her to wake up. I mean, I would do the same thing too...

Babygurl, it is just me and you here. Who the hell do you think I've been partying with without you? Who are you so afraid of? Who are you trying to poison?

You know, Withers could have just visited the evil lesbians in Baldur's Gate instead of throwing this lavish and extravagant party in the middle of nowhere.

Whoooo boi! This has probably been the longest it has taken me to ever complete a run in Baldur's Gate. Not because it was difficult, but because I was fighting burn-out at the same time, and, well, life stuff happened. But now with Patch 7 being here, I can finally download and install some mods to bring back that spark and replay Daedra and maybe complete that Karlach origin that I keep putting off. This will probably be the last time I do a Shadowheart origin as I have already done it three times and I miss her as a companion.

This is my first duo run and I have had a lot of fun with it. Knowing that I only had two companions and limited resources really made me approach combat and scenarios more tactfully and prepare in advance. It also provided me with some really good RP reasons to make some not so morally good decisions. This was a run that started off with Shadowheart making evil decisions out of necessity and survival, but then her selectively choosing to be good and to be better as she knows she has the power to be better. And having a powerhouse like Minthara at her side certainly gave her the confidence. Of course, Minthara had to get dragged through all this character development, grumbling and bitching about it the entire time. Although, I do not think she learned the same lessons as Shadowheart did as she is still up to her same old drow shenanigans.

This entire run was completely inspired by a random Shadowthara gifset I came across months ago and I knew I just had to do it. Shadowheart and Minthara have very quickly become one of my favorite ships and is my second favorite ship for Minthara specifically. I always knew that Shadowheart and Minthara had some overlap in their stories, but I didn't realize just how much they did overlap. I feel most people probably would have had Shadowheart go the DJ route with Minthara (and would be the canon route if Shadowheart only had Minthara by her side). So I went the opposite direction and found a good RP motivator to make Shadowheart reject Shar instead. To be honest, I think Minthara and Selunite Shadowheart mesh better together than DJ Shadowheart (although DJ Shaodwheart and Minthara are delicious in their own way).

"BioWare’s first gay character was Juhani, a feline Jedi with a romance storyline which Gaider neither suggested nor wrote. “It couldn’t be explicit, because LucasArts wouldn’t allow that,” he says. “So she couldn’t say ‘I love you’. It just had to be very gal pal. ‘These gal pals are really close!’ It had to be hidden.” Gaider isn’t sure whether LucasArts were ever asked about the romance, or whether BioWare obfuscated it for fear of being overruled. “LucasArts certainly shut down anything they thought was over-the-top sexual innuendo,” he says. “But they looked at everything on a line-by-line basis, so if there was no single line that made it explicit, it went unnoticed.” BioWare’s first openly expressed same-sex romance came in Jade Empire, and Gaider was bowled over. “When I heard that the other team had done this, I was like, ‘This is something we can do in a video game? Holy crap.’ “It’s hard, especially for the younger audience today, to think of what it was like back then in the early 00s,” he adds. “Even when we started Dragon: Age Origins, on many levels, there was a lot of trepidation. I had a character I wanted to make gay - Zevran, the assassin. And they were still going, ‘Oh, well, you know that’s a really small part of the audience, so if we’re going to do that much content for it let’s make him bisexual at least’. So he can do double duty.”"

"In other words, Baldur’s Gate II was where the highly influential Bioware model was first nailed down. “James Ohlen came up with this idea of romances as something cool to try as a lark, not even thinking that they would be noticed much,” Gaider says. “I was just happy to be along for the ride. We had four romances and I did three of them, and that was really just Lukas Kristjanson and I sitting down, figuring out time-based conversation triggers so that your relationship grows.”"

"Dragon Age took off, and Gaider became the primary custodian of its world - leading the writing of all three released games in the series to date, as well as a stackful of novels and comics. “I felt like I’d gotten all the sword and sorcery stories out of me that I wanted to tell,” he says. Afterwards, he moved onto the early development of Anthem. “But that project was not going anywhere good,” he says. “I already could see the writing on the wall: ‘This is not gonna work out and I don’t belong on this team, but I left Dragon Age so there’s nowhere else for me to go.’” The solution was to depart BioWare, Gaider’s home for 17 years."
