César Baldaccini's “Compression” Pendants
From the 1960s onward, the French sculptor compacted cars and then went on to use all kinds of materials including paper, fabrics and even the family jewels. Women would bring him their love tokens, crosses and chains so that they could be reduced to a mini parallelepiped sculpture. In each entanglement of gold pearls and diamonds can be found, along with a whole life’s story.
