Also fairly old, I don't really like the way Lance's face looks in the bottom reference, but still a fun AU, so I'm posting it here as well

So, this is an AU that was kinda inspired by two mythical creatures in Slavic folklore : Alkonost - the bird of happiness, and Sirin - the bird of sadness. (They were these two birds with human heads who also wore crowns, the myths about them were pretty popular in Kievan Rus aka my ancestors.) They became the prototypes for bird Balan and bird Lance respectively.

Balan's design was a bit inspired by storks, cranes and secretary birds (proportions and especially his legs) while Lance had birds-of-paradise and hawks as prototypes of his design.
