Hi! Hi! Fiesta time requesting to ya and was hoping if can place this ask here. I made sure to read you're rules so if I do somthing wrong then ignore my ask.
So Yautja's know that humans do not have strong instics as they do but they have certain things the Yautja don't have. Like uncanny valley.
So in this, the Yautja is with their human when they suddenly freeze. When they ask their human what's wrong, they don't awnser, just stearing off at somthing that they see. The Yautja can smell the fear and panic off of them.
What does the Yautja do?
Please please please please ignore this if I went aginst you're rules! Have a good day/night
Male Yautja OC (Bako) x male reader
Headcanons
Tumblr media
I imagined this as Bako, who was mentioned a few times in my last yautja post, which you can read here.
Bako is a very chill Yautja compared to others. Hes already had multiple offspring and is still in his prime. It gives him a good amount of confidence and comfort in himself.
It also makes him a bit of a tease to his ooman lover, throwing you over his shoulder or just moving you around as he pleased, unless it really annoys you when he does.
He loves the size difference between you as well. You’ll catch him pressing his orange scaled hand against your own every now and then just to look at the difference. Bako always grumbles happily a about it.
But just because he’s more chill than most Yautja doesn’t mean he isn’t as active and aware as everyone else, he’s just great at hiding it behind an easygoing facade. Dating a normal ooman definitely makes him even more on edge and protective.
Hed try to teach you how to at least defend yourself or how to sharpen your instincts enough to protect yourself. You might not be able to kill another yautja in their prime, but you will be able to maul them enough to give you time to get away. Then he will hunt them down and present their skull to you.
Seeing you with a weapon also makes him grumble even more, arms crossed over his chest and his yellow eyes sparkling as he watches you use different firearms. Especially the firearms hes specially kitted for you to fit your hands and size.
If you take an interest in camoflague hed be more than happy to show you too, since hes mastered the art. Even without all his gear, Bako is able to melt into the background with ease after years of practice.
Having a more colorful shade in his scales meant he had to be really good at what he did, or he would have died one way or another. He just has to figure out how to really blend the different colors on your human skin.
But even with all this, Bako is always weary like any Yautja worth their salt should be. This is also why he notices pretty much immediately that you are weirded out or weary about something.
Having a Yautja partner can be pretty damn annoying sometimes with how protective and possessive they’ll be. Even if you guys are walking through what’s supposed to be a peaceful market, you still find Bako almost glued against your back.
Maybe you spot a species that just looks… uncomfortably human. But not really. You know like those ai robots that have skin that doesn’t really fit, or they blink too slowly and more too stiffly.
It makes you freeze for a moment, immediately sending alarm bells ringing inside Bakos head. There should be no reason for you to freeze, his clan had come to this market for years and it should be safe.
But smelling the discomfort and uncomfortable fear from you makes his mandibles flare under his mask, looking down at you for a moment to see where you are looking, before snapping his head in that direction, ready to kill.
Of course, you end up having to hold him back and explain that no, that alien didn’t say or do anything, yes, you were okay. It was just a weird human survival reaction.
You end up having to explain uncanny valley to him, and how once upon a time, humans developed pattern recognition for survival reasons.
This makes sense to Bako after you explain. He mentions something about other species that looked like humans coming to earth, to hunt humans, so of course you guys developed survival instincts against them.
This has you thinking “excuse me, what?” because what did he mean by that. of course, Bako just shrugs and goes “I thought you knew” and keeps you guys moving, as if he didn’t just drop that bomb on you.
Bako keeps being extra protective the rest of the day, as if just the smell of your fear keeps him on edge. Just in case, ya know? What if something jumps out of the shadows at you? You never knew out here. You just have to accept it, and accept all the cuddles later.

Ultraman Z Ep. 22: “Individual Tomorrows” (TV Review)
Tumblr media
(Original Air Date: November 28, 2020, Director: Koichi Sakamoto, Writer Sotaro Hayashi)
With STORAGE disassembled in the wake of the previous episode, Haruki and Yoko hang out during their down time to discuss what their next steps will be if they can’t fight to protect people anymore. The answer turns out to be that they’ll do it anyway as another Space Pirate Barossa arrives to get revenge for his brothers.
“Individual Tomorrows” is a simultaneously comforting and energetic episode as we see the dynamic between the ensemble cast of Ultraman Z at its best, even without their usual resources to back them up.
[Full Review Under the Cut]
Opening the episode on Haruki in the middle of another workout and flashbacks montage sets the tone for the rest of the episode. As with the other time this happened, the flashbacks are accompanied by a slow piano cover of the opening theme, but the moments Haruki’s remembering are quite different. Rather than moments of regret, it’s a collection of all the silly moments he’s had with the rest of Team STORAGE. On the surface, it’s a reminder of what Haruki will miss now that the organization has been dismantled. Below that surface lies the heart of this episode, that the team bonding through these moments made them an effective monster fighting unit. An idea that bears out through the rest of the episode as we see them work together to stop an alien threat, even when it’s not their job and with zero hesitation.
Before they spring into action, we get to see a bit of how everyone on the team is dealing with being on leave. Yoko inviting Haruki to hang out gets implied to be her not having much life outside of her dedication to her job as a pilot. She points out that she hasn’t kept up with new trends in a while when she tries her first boba tea while hanging out with Haruki. There’s also an enjoyable bit where she asks Haruki pay for his movie ticket, even though she won two free passes, after he loses another arm-wrestling bet.
On their way to the theater, they end up coming across a friend we haven’t seen in a while; the one and only Sevenger!
Tumblr media
STORAGE’s original giant robot has been relegated to a museum piece with the secondary function of promoting the operation of robots like him to the public. Overseeing Sevenger’s display are two more friends from STORAGE; Yuka and Bako, working in PR and maintenance on Sevenger, respectively. Even if we only briefly see the four of them together outside of a work environment, it’s still a refreshing change of setup. I hadn’t grown tired of STORAGE or the characters’ roles within it at all, but sometimes you don’t know how much a change of pace can add to a series until you get one. They’re all taking advantage of this interlude in their lives their own ways before figuring out what their individual tomorrows will hold.
However, their time together does leave one member of Team STORAGE doing his own thing the whole episode, Juggler. He skulks around the former STORAGE base, rechristened Special Airborne and Armored Group (SAAG), while disguised as a pizza delivery guy. Juggler’s investigation leads him to what the GAF’s plan is to replace and “improve” on the robots of STORAGE, a machine called “Ultroid Zero” modeled after Ultraman Zero. He ends up overhearing Mai Yuki talk about how they need data on Ultraman Z’s energy blasts before the new machine can be combat ready. Since he’s the type to stir the pot whichever way will keep things most interesting to him, Juggler goes off to make sure SAAG gets what they need. He even stops Zett from defeating Barossa too quickly to make sure the fight goes on long enough that the Ultra will resort to stronger attacks.
Everything in this episode converges once Barossa makes the scene and the action starts. This is another Koichi Sakamoto episode, so the fights all have his specific energy. We get to see Haruki, Yoko, and even Bako take their turns fighting against the space pirate. While the two pilots get tossed aside quickly, the senior engineer’s fighting skills actually intimidate the alien into running away. Seeing them all work together against a threat outside of the usual pattern of STORAGE operations displays how they’re personal bonds defined their dynamic more than their official positions.
As the fighting escalates to giant scale we get a two of my favorite things in the episode, seeing Zett grow to giant size from the outside rather than through a transformation sequence and Yoko piloting Sevenger once more to join the fight. A few more complications get added between one of SAAG’s new pilots showing up in King Joe to stop Yoko from using Sevenger and Juggler transforming into Tri/Five-King once it’s clear Barossa’s not enough to get Zett to use his strongest attacks. Tri-King even retains the sky darkening power it had in “The Mystic Power” as it emerges from a cloud of smoke in one of my favorite shots this episode. When Zett and Haruki do finally resort to a beam attack, Juggler uses Joe as a shield so Mai can gather the data she needs to complete Ultroid Zero. (Though the attack leaves Joe broken down into its component vehicles.) The fight ends on another high note for the episode as Zett finishes off the fight with Gamma Futures powers, if only because it’s nice for older forms to still feel like they matter in a show like this after the hero already obtained a final powerup like Delta Rise Claw.
However, the unparalleled pinnacle of this episode goes to Yoko and Sevenger, the comeback kid. One of the funnier bits of the episode feeds into their highlight, as Ultraman Z’s talking sword, Beliarok, gets excited to fight against Five-King until Haruki mentions they fought the monster before. The mouthy blade being so particular with how it’s used opens the opportunity for Sevenger to wield it. Though not before Yoko taunts Beliarok for being too cowardly to fight Barossa. Sword in hand and with Yuka controlling King Joe’s monster transport platform, Sevenger lands a skateboarding sword slash finisher against the space pirate. After episode upon episode of Yoko jobbing against every monster of the week while piloting Joe on top of Sevenger’s lengthy absence, seeing them get any win (let alone one this stylish) was phenomenal.
Tumblr media
Everyone in Team STORAGE contributing to one victory or another this episode will probably make it rank highly when I’m thinking back on Ultraman Z as a series after it wraps up in a few weeks. Even if Juggler’s main contribution was to be one of the defeated monsters. Though he does also get a nice moment as Hebikura when he says his farewells to them, since everyone is no longer part of the GAF’s robot division with the exception of Yoko, a candidate to pilot Ultroid Zero after Mai saw what she could do with Sevenger. When Haruki expresses his sadness at how everything they worked for and he’s defined himself by have been torn away, Hebikura tells him to prove everyone who underestimated STORAGE wrong. Once more demonstrating how, even if he’s hiding his true self, Juggler does care about his team.
Ultraman Z’s final arc continues to impress me. Seeing the main ensemble operate in a new context and Sakamoto’s stylish action made this a great step along the last stretch of episodes. I’d be more than happy if this warm energy hung around the rest of the season. But given the next episode is called “Prelude to a Nightmare”, I kind of doubt that will be the case.

Naruto-a shinobi story
Character name:Hanai Motsoyuki
Pt 1
Character discription- Female, Brown eyes, brown skin and purple long straight hair.
Shinobi outfit- a black tight fitted tank/crop top with nets as short sleeves. She wears wraps around her arms. She wears kaki shorts that stop at her mid upper thigh. Nets come out of her shorts and stop mid-lower thigh. She wears her shinobi headband around her head formally and often carries a scabbard for her 2 swords. She wears wraps almost as socks on her feet, finished by her shinobi sandals. She wears her hair in a high ponytail. Her ponytail reaches her mid back.
I only own Hanai and the Motsoyuki clan. I own no other characters.
——————————————————————————
*at a 5 Kage summit*
“We must kill off the Motsoyuki Clan! The Clan is an endangerment to all Lands.” The Raikage spoke loudly among his fellow kages.
“Hai. This seems to be the only solution to our problems. The Motsoyuki have caused mischief. They have terrorized all of our land and people. Do we all agree that we need to kill off their clan?” The Hokage asked. Hashirama felt bad that this was the only way to end the nonstop violence. Hashirama was a firm believer in accomplishing things through peace, but that clearly wasn’t an option now. This situation only made him think about Madara and the Uchiha. He hung his head down as he continued to ponder.
“Hai.”
“Hai”
“Hai”
“Hai”
Each kage had given their answer. The Motsoyuki had to perish.
——————————————————————————
“Lord Bako, Lady Yuki. We have heard that the kages have a plan to take out our clan. What shall we do about this?” Mako asked with a concerned tone. His job was to protect the clan with his life, a job of the branch Motsoyuki family.
“If it’s a war they want, they shall get.” Lord Bako remarked coldly, while smiling.
A war was had against the dangerous Motsoyuki clan. They were high in numbers with horrible motives. They had paid the price for their sins soon enough. The Motsoyuki clans numbers were reduced until they had gone into hiding into a secluded place not many had known about. By then, Lord Bako and Lady yuki had been killed off, leaving their oldest child to take over.
Lord Aiko and Lady Hana were the head of the head Motsoyuki Family. Long past the days of Hashirama and Tobirama. Just as Minato had died and the 3rd Hokage came back into power, a child was born into the Motsoyuki head Family.
“Her name is Hanai.” Lady Hana remarked while stroking her babies purple hair behind her ears.
“Beautiful name my lady. I trust that you picked the name?”
“Hai. What is it that you wanted to talk to me about?” Lady Hana asked the Branch family servant.
“Well I wanted to tell you that we should start preparing for the future reading of Lady Hanai. It is our tradition to see how useful the child is to the clan.”
“I doubt we need to do that. She was born into the head family. She will be powerful.” Hana remarked smugly while carrying Hanai around in her arms.
“Hai.Our baby will be powerful darling but it is still tradition. We must follow our clans customs.” Aiko walked into the room, and sat down.
“Well ok. We will hold the ceremony tomorrow.” Hana said. The branch family servant bowed down and walked out of the room.
Hana stared at her baby with soft eyes. She could only think of the potential her child could have. How she would replenish the Motsoyuki clan and restore their reputation. Her opinion changed as she couldn’t wait for the ceremony tomorrow. She would know just how powerful her baby was.
Hana hadnt spent much time thinking about the ceremony because it was already here. The next day had come so quickly it was almost like she only blinked in between times.
The Motsoyuki clan kekkei genkai was essential for the ceremony. The ability to see into the past of an individual, as well as future and abilities of the person was essential. The clans old ceremonies were much more barbaric. If young children were seen to be weak or a nuisance in the future, they would be killed on the spot. However the Motsoyuki had no time for such things. They were already low on numbers and had been reduced to a fraction of their clans original population. Now such children who were lacking in abilities were trained to be lowly servants for the head family.
“Konbanwa. Tonight we will be doing a reading of Lady Hanai of the Head Family. We will see her potential for this clan. Please commence the reading.” The organizer commanded.
A Motsoyuki member had placed their hand on Hanai’s small head and began reading. Their eyes were now a purple lavender color.
“She has acquired the Reading Abilities of the clan. The best of our clan. She will soon be able to tell much of a person by just looking at them.”
The members gasped and whispered. A fortune like that hadnt been heard in years. The last of the best readers of the clan had been killed off in the war.
“She will also have the ability to perform our jutsu, Dokukiri en juu Justu. It will be the most poisonous and powerful version of the Justu.” The reader continued.
People continued whispering. A widespread joy was felt among the members.
“She will be very skilled in kenjutsu by a young age. Also, she will-”
The reader had cut himself off. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Betrayal he found within her future, her near future.
“Someone in this clan will betray Lady Hanai. They will get close to her just to tear her down.” The reader had told the very last fortune.
Like clockwork, the members of the clan had started to whisper among themselves. A fortune of such was unheard of in Motsoyuki ceramonies. There weren’t many unloyal members of the clan before. If such a fortune was even seen in a child, there would be consequences.
“Please settle down. I know that fortune is a lot to take in, as we haven’t heard something like that in many years. Now we know Lady Hanai will be essential to the future of our clan. She will be our secret weapon. We will use her to fulfill our clans age old plan of ruling the Lands!” The organizer spoke once again.
Since then, 5 years had already passed and young Hanai had grown longer purple hair. She was taller and had worn a standard Motsoyuki clan dress. She would love taking walks on the clans grounds. Her branch family servant, Ekiko would follow her around to ensure her safety. Ekiko and Hanai were very close. Ekiko had been serving Hanai for the 5 years. Just as Hanai was born, Ekiko had just turned 14 and was a servant branch member. Hana and Aiko thought she would be best to care for their child.
As Hanai was walking, Ekiko had stopped her for a second.
“Darling. Halt for a minute. I must perform a task quickly. It won’t take up your break time, my lady.” Ekiko explained. Hanai shook her head in approval.
Hanai sat down in her spot where she was previously standing, thinking about her approaching training session.
She had been doing training everyday since she turned 4 years old. As the fortune told, she wielded the best of the clans kekkei genkai. She was able to tell so much about people by just looking at them. It was beautiful. Her eyes would turn from a warm brown color to a light purple color. Mastering the clan Justu was next in line. The jutsu required knowledge of all and any plants. Hanai had also been studying that since she was 3, so she had a great start.
But her obvious talents made her a target. Most of the clan just wanted to exploit her talents and use it for their own benefit. It was hard to find an unbiased teacher who didn’t want to use Hanai for her abilities. Everyone had their own opinion on how the young girl should be raised. The goal in the end would still be to use the girls abilities to benefit the clan after all.
Hanai sensed footsteps coming closer and closer to her. She couldn’t tell who it was just yet. Maybe it was another branch servant coming to check on her. She stayed calm and continued to sit still and relax.
Suddenly, Hanai was snatched up by 2 people. She started to scream for help.
“Ekiko! Help!” Hanai cried as they took her away. Other clan members had started to come out of their quarters. Some ran after the 2 assailants dressed in black hoods, but it was proved futile. The 2 were too fast.
Hanai was taken to a secluded area not far from the clans hideout. She was tied to a post. She continued to scream for help. She kicked with all her force but it did nothing. Hanai was no match for her captors.
“Please! Where’s Ekiko! She will save me!” Hanai cried.
There were 6 black hoods in total. One of them chuckled and then began speaking.
“Your beloved Ekiko has betrayed you, young one. She has forsaken you and turned against you.” He claimed. Hanai could feel the evil radiating from him.
“No! That’s not true! Ekiko loves me. She would never betray me!” Hanai shouted.
“Oh? Then who does this happen to be?” He asked while pointing to another person in a black hood.
The person faced away from Hanais sight and removed their hood. She turned to face Hanai.
“E-Ekiko? But why?” Hanai mumbled as a tear fell out of her eye. Ekiko turned her head. She couldn’t face Hanai.
The man continued to menacingly laugh.
“You see Lady Hanai, your beloved Ekiko had not cared about you.” The man spoke.
Hanai tried not to listen to the man. She couldn’t believe Ekiko betrayed her. She thought she could trust her. She loved Ekiko and the feeling was thought to be mutual.
“Now, Lady Hanai. Ekiko will remove your eyes and switch them with mine. We cannot give the clan future to just a mere child. Once I have your eyes, I will be able to get the clans attention. They will bow down to me and I will be head of the clan.” The man Revealed.
Hanai wriggled in her ropes but she couldn’t break free. As Ekiko moved closer to her, Hanais breathing became heavier. As Ekiko extended her arm towards Hanais face, Hanais eyes began to glow purple.
“Ah yes! Those eyes! They are what I want!” The man exclaimed.
Soon a member of the black hoods started screaming from seemingly pain. They dropped to the floor, holding their heads in agony. This pattern soon followed with the rest.
“Make it stop!” One shrieked.
The members continued to perish one by one until just Ekiko and the man was left.
“What have you done you brat! I demand to know!”
No response was heard. Hanais eyes were still glowing purple. She turned her head in the mans direction. He turned around and dashed away from Hanai and Ekiko, leaving just the 2 girls alone.
Hanai turned to face Ekiko. Ekiko began to hold her head and yelp in pain. Blood began to seep from her mouth as she screamed.
Suddenly, Hanais eyes went back to a warm, cozy brown. She felt weak and frail. She scanned her area and noticed Ekiko on the ground, barely clinging to life.
“E-Ekiko. Did I do this?” Hanai barely managed to choke out.
“Hai. But I deserve it. I betrayed your trust Lady Hanai. But I couldn’t let the people of the clan use you for their own gains. The Motsoyuki are evil people, Hanai. I wasn’t going to use your eyes on him, but on myself so that you wouldn’t have to usher in a horrible plan. It’s the duty of the branch family servants to protect their masters. I was just protecting you, but I failed. Gomen nasai.I love you and never forget that, lady Hanai.” Ekiko chocked out with ragged breath. She smiled as her life slipped out of her own hands.
Hanai’s eyes swelled with tears as she began to close her eyes. She was extremely low on chakra. She eventually passed out, still tied to the post.
Meanwhile, a jonin of the nearby leaf village was heading back from a mission. He had white hair, with a mask that covered his mouth. His shinobi headband covered one of his eyes.
As he was coming back, he spotted Hanai tied to the post.
“Hm. Well I guess it’s ok to make one pit-stop.” He said, smiling under his mask.
He sprinted towards Hanai. He pulled out a kunai knife and cut the rope. Hanais body fell limp in the mans arms. He delicately held her weak body and continued to sprint back to his village.
——————————————————————————
“Please, get her medical help as fast as possible. She’s very low on chakra and she feels very weak.” The white haired man said, as he handed Hanai to the medical nin.
“Hai. Arigato, kakashi” the medical nin said whilst holding Hanai in her hands now.
“Un” Kakashi shook his head and went to report to the hokage. He had just finished a mission. He had to capture 2 rouge ninja from the Land of Fire, which was a bit difficult to say the least. At least, he didn’t have to pull out his sharingan though. That was for special opponents.
In no time, Kakashi had reached the Hokage office. He went to the old mans room.
“Hokage-sama. The land of Fire’s rouge ninja have been caught and returned to their village.” Kakashi reported.
“Great Job Kakashi. Please go and rest.”
“Oh and one more thing. On the way back from my mission, I found a young girl. She looked about 5 years old. She was very low on chakra and weak. And more disturbingly, she was tied to a post with dead bodies surrounding it when I found her.” Kakakshi described. The nature of Hanais resting place when Kakashi found her was rather unsettling. He had time to examine the bodies and he couldn’t even figure out what exactly had happened to them.
“What’s her status now?” The Hokage asked.
“She is now in the care of Konohas medical-nin. She should be receiving treatment.” Kakashi stated whilst walking out of Sarutobis room.
The Hokage peered out of his office window, looking out to his people. The people of Konoha were his top priority, and now that a little girl was brought there he would do everything to make her feel welcome and at home.
“Hokage-sama”
“Hm”
“A little girl was brought into the hospital today.”
“Yes I heard. Kakashi told me. He said he was the one who dropped her off. How is her condition?” Sarutobi was generally curious. The gentle old man hoped the girl was ok.
“She is stable. She seems to be a very smart young girl. We just don’t know what clan she’s from.” The man said.
“I will visit her and talk to her myself. Arigato.” Said the Hokage. He walked out of his office and started for the hospital.
——————————————————————————
Concurrently, Hanai was laying in a hospital bed, eating a bento box. Since she was so polite, a medical-nin let her have it.
Bento was her favorite meal. It basically had everything she liked in one plate. Meat, Rice, veggies. Her family’s servants would make it for her very often, as she would request it so often. Her and Ekiko would eat Bento together when Hanai was on break from training.
Hanai sighed at the thought of Ekiko. Suddenly, her appetite was fading and instead of enjoying her food, she began picking at her food with her chopsticks. She really missed Ekiko.
Just then, the Hokage walked into her hospital room, catching her attention. She looked up at him, and her eyes started to glow a purple lavender color once again.
“Konichiwa. I am the-
“You are the Hokage of this village. You are called Sarutobi. Thank you for coming to see me.” Hanai said whilst cutting off the Hokage.
“Ah. I presume you are of the Motsoyuki clan. That trait is very common among them. The Kekkei Genkai of the clan, if you may.” The Hokage responded while walking closer to Hanai.
“Hai. I understand that people target my clan so I chose not to tell anyone who I was.”Hanai stated. For a 5 year old she was very good at articulating her words.
“Well, now that you are stable and in good condition, would you like someone to take you to your clan? It’s up to you.”
“I-
Hanai paused for a second. Ekikos words resurfaced in her mind.
“ But I couldn’t let the people of the clan use you for their own gains. The Motsoyuki are evil people, Hanai. I wasn’t going to use your eyes on him, but on myself so that you wouldn’t have to usher in a horrible plan.”
If the clan really wanted to use her for their own gains, she couldn’t go back to them. The people of Konoha had treated her nicely so far, so why not stay here?
“I would like to stay here. I don’t want to go back to my clan.”
Sarutobi patted the girls head. He smiled a big smile and then began talking.
“I’m glad you want to stay. You will be given money each month with your own apartment and clothing. If you want to, when you turn 8, you can enroll in ninja school and become a Kunoichi! I’m sure you’ll make a fine shinobi.” The Hokage said as he walked out of the room with a smile on his face.
Hanai smiled at the Hokages joyous nature. It was a breath of fresh air from all the gloom in her life.
——————————————————————————-
Another week passed and Hanai was released from the hospital. A jonin was now escorting her to her new apartment. They asked her if she would need anyone to stay with her but she was almost certain she didn’t need it.
Sure she did grow up so far with people attending to her every whim, but she could fend for herself, right?
As she was walking, Hanai witnessed a boy being pushed down and yelled at. An old man was refusing to let him buy something. The surrounding people stared at the boy. Hanai pulled the Jonins hand and told him that she wanted to buy something.
She approached the old mans store and held out her cash. The little boy was still on the ground. His tears were threating to spill out. Still, his eyes followed Hanai.
“Sumimasen. May I have this one please?” Hanai asked, pointing at the object the little boy previously asked for.
“Of course, sweetie.” The old man responded nicely. He happily gave Hanai the object while scoffing at the sight of the blond little boy on the floor.
“Arigato”
Hanai turned to face the boy, who looked about her age. She held out her hand to his face. He grabbed her hand and walked with her back to the jonin who was now becoming impatient with Hanai.
“What’s your name?” The boy asked Hanai.
“Hanai desu.” Hanai continued to hold the boys hand as her eyes glowed purple. The boy watched in awe.
“You are Uzumaki Naruto. The 4th Hokages son. The people here are mean to you.” Hanai mumbled as she hung her head down. She felt bad for the boy. She looked into his past, he hadn’t done anything to deserve the ridicule. She just couldn’t understand it. Maybe it was an adult thing.
The boy wiped his nose and eyes, sniffling still. The jonin was slightly far up ahead than the 2 children. They all almost reached their destination.
“How come I’ve never seen you before?” Naruto asked.
“I’m not from this village. I was found unresponsive by a jonin of this village. He brought me here. I’ve decided to stay.” Hanai remarked.
“Yay! A new friend!” Naruto exclaimed while jumping up and down. Hanai couldn’t help but giggle at the boys energy.
“Hanai. This is our stop. It seems to be right next to Naruto’s apartment. So you 2 can play together all day. Here’s your key.” The jonin said whilst handing Hanai her apartment keys. He walked away from the 2 children and left them alone.
Hanai glanced at the object in her hand. She held it up to Naruto’s face.
“Here you go. I bought it for you.” Hanai explained.
“Huh? For me? Nobody’s ever done that before.” Naruto murmured. He took the thing from Hanais hand and stared into her now again brown cozy eyes.
“I’m glad you like-
Naruto engulfed Hanai in a hug to her surprise. She slowly lifted her hands and put them around Naruto. Hanai gently patted his back. She could tell that he hadn’t been shown much affection.
Naruto broke the hug and invited Hanai inside. Ekiko had taught Hanai to always be polite towards others, so she happily obliged. She wanted to get to know more about Naruto. He was her next door neighbor after all.
“So Hanai, what is your favorite food? Mine is Ramen!” Naruto exclaimed while smiling a wide smile. Hanai lightly smiled at Naruto.
“Bento is my favorite. Maybe tomorrow I could take you out for ramen, if you’d like?” Hanai asked with a smile on her face.
Naruto’s face lit up in response.
“Ramen! Ramen! Ramen!” He chanted, as he danced around his apartment. Hanai giggled loudly as if someone was tickling her.
“Then tomorrow. Oyasuminasai, Naruto.” Hanai solemnly grinned. She walked over to him and kissed him on the cheek. Hanai walked to his door, and left.
Since then, the 2 had been a great pair. However, Hanai would meet many people who would change her life for the better, and for worse.

Kuching, Malaysia: what to see plus the best restaurants, hotels and bars
The capital of Malaysian Borneo is one of Asias most alluring cities, with fabulous food and new hotels, but little traffic and few high-rises to spoil the laid-back vibe
Just as Penang was swiftly transformed into one of Asias hottest destinations a few years ago, the buzz in Malaysia right now is all about another under-the-radar spot, the little-known city of Kuching, riverside capital of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. There are several theories as to how the city got its name (Kuching is cat in Malay), but its roots are as a trading post, built up by the family of Sir James Brooke, the first of the white rajahs who ruled Sarawak for a century. When I first visited 20 years ago, Kuching was a backwater, where tourists would hardly break their journey on their way to trek in Borneos rainforests and national parks.

Going there today still reminds me of a time when Asian cities were not clogged with traffic, pollution and skyscrapers. Kuchings architectural heritage and historic Chinatown are well-preserved, even though it lacks Unesco protection, and there is scarcely a high-rise to spoil the skyline.
The street food has always been spectacular here, but now there are also bistros and fun bars, and a great choice of accommodation from boutique hotels to backpacker hostels. Despite its growth it retains a laid-back, small-town ambiance, with friendly locals who love to meet travellers who have made it all the way to Borneo.
What to see and do

Kuching is defined by its historic waterfront, and the perfect introduction is to take a sunset stroll along the one-mile pedestrian promenade that follows the snaking Sarawak river. Across the water lie sleepy Malay kampongs, the once-imposing colonial Fort Margherita and the White Rajahs palace, both dwarfed today by an immense modern parliament building resembling a surreal golden spaceship. There are river cruises, but the simple sampan ferry, which rows people back and forth for M$1 a ride (under 20p), is more fun.

At the end of the prom, opposite the ancient prison that is now a fashionable restaurant, is the jewel in Kuchings colonial crown, the 19th-century Old Court House withcolonnaded terraces, which has become a culture hub since it was taken over by the people behind Penangs bohemian China House arts and leisure centre. Today the various court buildings host exhibitions, theatre, poetry reading and live music, as well as a fashion boutique, cafe and restaurant. Parallel to the waterfront runs Main Bazaar Street, lined with shops selling tribal handicrafts. The back streets behind form Kuchings Chinatown, a maze of incense-filled temples, coffee shops, street food stalls and noisy workshops full of tinsmiths, cobblers, carpenters and tailors.

Kuching is not big on sights, but one venue not to miss isSarawak Museum, which has barely changed since it first opened in 1891, with an incredible collection of local flora and fauna, and a genuine insight into the indigenous tribes of the Borneo rainforest.
Local designer Jacqueline Fong has opened Tanoti Crafts, a workshop/boutique for young weavers that produces ethnic silk songket cloth, including affordable accessories like shawls and bags.

No one could fail to notice the large number of tattooed people in Kuching: body art is an integral part of the indigenous culture, especially the Iban, once also known for headhunting. Today, more than 20 tattoo studios draw in travellers. The man to visit is the world-renowned Ernesto Kalum, whose Borneo Headhunter studio (47 Wayang Street) offers both contemporary tattoos using modern machines and tribal designs created with the traditional tap technique.
For a less invasive insight into local life, book a course at Bumbu Cooking Class (about 28pp), where Joseph Jissin, from the Bidayuh tribe, takes small groups to the market to shop for ingredients from the jungle such as ferns and pineapples, colourful Malinjau nuts and fragrant pandan leaves, which everyone then cooks under his supervision before eating everything for lunch.
Where to eat

Kuching is a foodie paradise, particularly the street food, where most dishes cost less than a pound. Begin at Chinatowns Seng Kee (main dishes about 90p, 37 Carpenter Street), where theres a choice of fishball soup, pork satay, Sarawak laksa, Chinese rice porridge with salted egg and preserved vegetables, or the adventurous kueh chap, a feast of slow-braised pork ribs and intestines.
In nearby Padungan Road, theres always a queue for Noodle Descendents (188 Padungan Road) which serves an awesome bowl of kolo mee, the favourite local dish of minced pork and noodles, served by a tiny lady who has been cooking here since 1957.

At night, the crowds head to Top Spot (main dishes from 1.80, Bukit Mata Street), an immense open-air food court on the roof of a car park. More than 500 diners sit at communal tables, ordering from neon-lit seafood stalls displaying live crabs, prawns, razor clams, wriggling squid, grouper, pomfret and parrot fish.
There are plenty of fine dining addresses too, from Asian fusion cuisine at Bla Bla Bla (27 Tabuan Street, mains 7) to excellent pasta and pizza at Junk (mains from 4, 80 Wayang Street), decorated with eclectic antiques collected by flamboyant chef George Ling. He also owns a row of Chinese shophouses, the latest being the lovingly preserved Barber Cafe just up the road, serving comfort food: tangy prawn soup, chilli burgers and healthy salads accompanied by a bloody mary or dirty martini.

But what is really exciting in Kuching right now is the rediscovery of the cuisine of Sarawaks indigenous tribes in creative restaurants such as Lepau (395 Ban Hock Road) and the.Dyak (29 Simpang Tiga Road). Dishes include manok lulun (chicken stewed in bamboo with tapioca leaves and herbs); umai (thinly sliced river fish marinated ceviche-style); and vegetables such as cangkuk manis (star gooseberry leaves) and midin (wild ferns).
Where to drink
The Monkeebar
For the best river views, take afternoon tea or sunset cocktails at the James Brooke Bistro (7 Tunku Abdul Rahman Street), which recalls the days of the white rajahs. Locals, though, tend to prefer freshly roasted coffee from beans grown on Sarawak plantations, at Black Bean Coffee (87 Ewe Hai Street). From early evening happy hour until well after midnight, the Drunk Monkey (68 Carpenter Street), in Chinatown, is Kuchings latest hot spot, though easily confused with the equally popular Monkeebar (12 Song Thian Cheok Street), owned by a conservation NGO that gives a third of its profits to an orang-utan conservation project. For live reggae and heavy metal, head for The Canteen (7 Tun Haji Openg Street) at weekends. And21 Bistro (64 Padungan Road) is a gritty bar where Filipino musicians entertain a raucous crowd: its the place to try a glass of tuak, lethal home-brewed rice wine.
Where to stay
The Ranee hotel
Kuching has plenty of modern five-star hotels, but a much more original place to stay is the Ranee (doubles from 53 B&B), a romantic boutique hotel in two former Chinese shophouses, decorated with antiques and tribal handicrafts. Just next door is a charming budget alternative, the Waterfront Lodge (doubles 21) with a traditional interior courtyard. There are a host of inexpensive backpacker hostels, such as Singgahsana Lodge (dorm bed 6.50, singgahsana.com), which has a rooftop bar with pool tables and occasional live music, or in Chinatown, the hip DIY Dorm (dorm bed 4.60) with its popular Wrong Place cafe.
Trips out of town

There are several destinations an hour or so from Kuching that offer an exciting taste of Borneos ancient rainforests (see sarawaktourism.com for contacts). Bako national park, the oldest and one of the smallest national parks, is reached by a steamy boat ride along the Santubong river (full day 55pp). Jungle trails weave past mangrove swamps and dense tropical vegetation, with several coming out at quiet sandy beaches on the South China Sea. For staying overnight, there are simple two-person jungle chalets to rent (about 30) or dorm beds (under 4), with the chance to go on after-dark treks.

A trip to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre (24) offers a rare opportunity to see orangutans in their natural habitat. Travellers need to understand though, that this is a rehabilitation centre for a species whose future is still seriously threatened, not a tourist attraction. Semenggohs 26 orang-utans roam free in the jungle and swing through the trees when forest wardens arrive for the twice-daily feeding. Visitors can respectfully watch in silence from a platform around 100 metres away.

Rarely mentioned in guidebooks is Siniawan Old Town whose night market held in an abandoned 1860s gold mining settlement makes an offbeat foodie escapade just 30km from Kuching (about 15pp). On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from sunset till 11pm, this riverside ghost town of clapboard houses comes alive as scores of food stalls set up shop, frying noodles and vegetables, grilling fish, chicken wings and satay. Tables are set up all along the high street, under red Chinese lanterns, to cater for hundreds of hungry visitors.
