It's done!!!! Yippee. This took me four months to finish, six of which were finished in the last three days. I couldn't stand staring another second at this so line art only for the remaining two-thirds.

I blame Filbrick for my lack of motivation because I would stare at his face and instantly lose my will to draw. (Probably just being overwhelmed by how much I needed to do but ANYWAY-)

This part is done now. I'll start on part 2 eventually, but for now I'm resting. It won't be coloured, just cleaned up because damn I overestimated myself on this one. I believed in my ability do long-period tasks way too much.

But anyhow. Since it's been *four months* since I intentionally mentioned this comic, i should reexplain the premise. So I had been watching an animatic on yt, and I was reading the description when it mentioned Moral Orel. It inspired me on a what-if idea of Filbrick taking one of his sons on a camping trip to beat some toxic masculinity into them. I had a poll to decide whether this supposed son would be Stan or Shermie ( I hc Shermie as older) since I could honestly see either slotting into this scenario with Filbrick. Was leaning a bit more towards Shermie just because I figured he would be a more hands-on in dictating his life choices than the twins, y'know first born debuff and all. But Stan won, and who am I to deny, right?

I picture the twins being somewhere between 13-15 during this. Like a little after Filbrick had them doing boxing. Anyway, I am going to go take a break from thinking about this comic.

in the nicest and most non-confrontational way possible. i feel like some of you think that anything that isn't directly openly spelled out for you within a story is "missed potential" or "unexplored." like. sometimes there are implied narratives. sometimes the point is that you as the reader are supposed to think and draw your own conclusions and participate in the story. the writers not directly spelling every little detail out for you doesn't mean that the story is poorly written or missed its own plot details somehow. PLEASE.

I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim

Mostly because Stephanie showed no interest in her introduction and only showed romantic feelings towards Tim AFTER this moment here:

Straight up the progression here goes:

The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting

Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.

Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)

Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)

my only big complaint about stampede is that we never got to see the characters just chilling. like not only would that have been really fun and helped establish their dynamics and characters better, but i especially feel that if it was put between episodes 4 and 5 it wouldve helped the pacing so much.

like I can't be the only one who was thrown off by wolfwood going from "some weird guy we hit with the van and has a big gun" to one of the gang between those episodes.

also the show takes place over about 2 months, but the lack of downtime and how quick they went from jeneora rock to being on the sandsteamer makes it feel like a week or two at most.

also this might just be a me thing, but I'm a lil confused about exactly how long vash was unconscious after episode 7. was it a few hours? days? idk. also i wish we'd got to see more of them just chilling at Home but that's less a pacing thing and more just me wanting it

we all love movie Miguel, he's huge and tortured, yes yes. But comic Miguel?

comic Miguel becomes Spider-Man and essentially takes on the role of an anti-corporate double agent. He gets thrown into NYC's downtown (literally down into the depths of the city) and when he comes back up, is disgusted with himself for living a cushy life and he goes back to help protect Downtown. My man practically has a religion based on him. Though he never wanted it, he accepts the role of Spider-man and constantly puts himself in danger and sacrifices his interpersonal relationships so he can keep saving people. He really gives a fuck. And, yes, he is actually funny. He's a wiseass with a dry sense of humor. He's a complex character and the '92 comic run is worth your time

so im not following any particular prompt list for this, i saw like? three different ones floating around and just decided to make my own catered towards me and what i like. prompt for today was first meetings!

gist of the context is that they first meet before like, the apocalypse happens. fish is a normal human med student volunteering as a field medic for the alf and mako is one of the folks there. he has a tendency to get hurt constantly so hes in there a lot, and they end up getting along well once annie gets over their awkward crush-at-first-sight thing.
