#BTW BRAZILIANS SPEAK PORTUGUESE OK

this is going to be a long rant about personal experiences, sense of self, culture, and identity, and you're free to ignore, i just want it out of my chest
anyway
as i like to shout loud and clear, i'm proudly from north brazil, the amazon rainforest region to be specific, and that's very important detail to remember because it literally shaped almost everything i am now
in 1494 spain and portugal made a treat between them to divide the world between "this is mine and this is yours", and the spanish had most of the americas, only northeast and southeast(?) brazil was part of portugal's territory, but they only "discovered" brazil in 1500 and in 1540-something Francisco de Orellana (a spanish) decided to sail the amazon river and he "discovered" several rivers, indigenous tribes, including one rumored to be exactly like those tales from greece about the amazon warriors and that's why the name of the region is amazon, with a state in brazil named amazonas (where i'm from)
somehow, this region of brazil wasn't as sought after as the others like the south and southeast regions, this historically contributed in having the least population and, thus, money, and the region with more indigenous tribes (some intact and with no contact with "civilization") and mixed people (i'm one!), mostly mixed three times between european, african and indigenous
ok so after centuries brazil had so many different nationalities colonizing it's territory (like, SO MANY it's almost a joke), and although the north region wasn't as popular we had a lot of immigrants and the belle époque in the 19th(?) century, before the english did their thing and stole our rubber trees to plant in asia because it was cheaper and made us poor (manaus (capital of amazonas) was known as the paris of the tropics/paris in the amazon during this time), boosted our reputation and made us the destination for a lot of immigrants
my great-grandfather came from northeast brazil during this time and helped build our jewel - the amazon opera house in manaus! or at least that's what my grandma's older sisters told me, and he's one of the many from that part of the country that migrated here due to more job opportunities and etc
between this grand mix of nationalities in one place, their cultures started to get together too, and because of the great number of africans (once slaves, kidnapped from across the ocean) some of our biggest festivals were born - including the parintins folklore festival, created in 1965 in a tiny island at the edge of the state of amazonas
why am i talking about this? because it's important.
now, here's the thing
since i was little i always thought i was north brazilian and nothing more, it's only after i grew up more that i started to learn about "races" and etc, but still i thought of myself as simply a northerner and that was okay for most of my life, and i loved the folklore festival, but as we grew up, the mentality of our forefathers started to dig its roots inside our little brains, too
"i'm brazilian, but my family's from [european country]"
this is like the most common phrase you could, and still can, hear between teenagers
contrasting this, the parintins folklore festival is a mix between indigenous and african cultures, is a festival to remember our roots and celebrate it. "The festival celebrates a local legend about a resurrected ox. It is also a competition where two teams, Garantido and Caprichoso, compete in extended retellings of the story, each team attempting to outdo the other with flamboyant dances, singing, and parade floats. [...] Each nightly performance is largely based on local Amazonian folklore and indigenous culture, but also incorporates contemporary Brazilian rhythms and themes." - from Wikipedia.
i'm team garantido, by the way ♥️🤍
because of this mentality of "european is better" aka "white is better" largely due to racism but also because the government once encouraged white folk to marry black folk and have mixed kids to whitening the population, i always said my family's from portugal and that i was north brazilian, and it wasn't until like idk my 20 something??? that i watched John Leguizamo's stand-up "Latin History for Morons" that something clicked inside my brain (PLEASE WATCH IT)
most of my teenage life i had people turn up up their noses to me when i said i loved the folklore festival, i had some "friends" doing "jokes" about my skin color, my hobbies, the things i like, etc, and this is "normal" at this age, especially remembering that this happened between 2005-ish and 2011 (when i graduated), but at that time i didn't really understood what was going on
i can, now, proudly say i'm a black north brazilian woman
for so long i couldn't think of myself as a black woman like??? why?????? W H Y????? "my skin is too light" because you're mixed?! "i never had a hardship before because of my skin color" THANK THE GODS??!
i never realized the micro aggressions against my color and my northerner heritage - the lack of "nude" colors of my skin tone, lack of make-up for my skin, "i can't cosplay because i'm not white", the erasure of northerns in anything nationwide in brazil (and this still happens now, in 2024), the lack of north representation in nationwide anything and the priority southerners have in these same places
i want to go back to when i was 16 and someone laughed at me because i liked the folklore festival and say: this is our culture and we should be proud of it! no one has this, only us! this is ours and ours alone. be proud. also, bunny, please don't listen to them, stop pushing your love away, don't turn your back to the festival
i still think of myself as a northerner above everything but now i think why don't we have native languages in school? why we're taught so much about european history? we should study our local history more! stop looking down on natives, they're part of your own history, they were here before anyone else
before the european crown, we had the cocar
before the portuguese language, we had the tupi (and many, many others)
before god, we had yacy
why the incas, our neighbors, are thought with so much awe and the people from the other side of the andes are forgotten? brazilians, please stop this stray dog's way of thinking, you have your own culture, hype it up!
what the europeans did to us in the americas..... sigh
i'm glad i was born here, i'm glad i'm part of this culture, i wish i knew more about it and knew the language of, but i'm so, so glad to be here
it's tough, rough, sad, and i do envy sometimes, but here's good (most of the time) and i can be part of the festival every year without hiding from my friends (who also loves the festival and comes with me to see both ox) and it's so fun and it makes me so, so happy
i love the folklore festival so much, i love the white ox with a red heart in its forehead so, so much!! the first time i cried listening to music was in 2000, when i was listening garantido's album from that year , i want to talk about it, write fanfics with my culture in it....
i'm the happiest with my culture so you should, too
if anyone laughs at you or makes jokes about it or it's just racist/xenophobic you can just tell them i said vai tomar no cu seu arrombado do caralho ♥️
(also you can watch the festival on youtube, here's the 1rst night 2024)
#personal rant#rant post#late night thoughts#real life stuff#i'm proud of myself#i can spend the whole night talking about this festival tbh#i just love it so much#its been part of my life since forever#i have pictures of myself at 3yo dancing lol#be proud of yourself#!!! <3#local culture so good you cant see it anywhere else lol#we have the better version of cod fish#the ✨ pirarucu ✨ fish#festival de parintins#the funny part is#90% of brazilians don't even know this festival exists#and this is supposedly the largest open air festival(?) on earth#or something like that#anyway i should go to bed#gnight#BTW BRAZILIANS SPEAK PORTUGUESE OK#NOT SPANISH#now i just need to make peace with my weight

Ok so I just made a drawing of blasian transfem todoroki and I wanna talk about that because now I have a whole au for it.
(Btw I'm Brazilian and I'm gonna make this about me )
Ok so au in which Endeavor can't find a woman with ice powers in Japan so he travels all over the world looking for one. As you may or may not know 55% of Brazils population is black so yeah he finds someone with ice powers here and she agrees to marry him and move to Japan. There they have four kids until she gets super tired of his bullshit and with help from her parents moves back to Brazil. Then canonish stuff happens, Fuyumi and Natsuo have shitty powers, Toya runs away and that leaves Endeavor to train "Shoto". Throughout the years the mental and physical abuse gets worse and worse, until middle school when Todoroki finds out the meaning of the word 'transgender' by making searches about feeling like a girl in the school computer. She decides on the name Saori and because she has 0 clue of social cues she tells Endeavor right away. Then he gets super mad and basically calls her a bunch of stuff and throws boiling water at her (in this au, that's how she gets the scar). Fuyumi finds out about this and manages to put up a legal fight against her father along with Natsuo. With enough proof that Enji was a piece of shit (after all, who would attack the number two heroes daughter ? Who would risk that but the number two hero himself ? ) they take away legal guardian of Saori from him and he also pays some fines thought he's not arrested cause he's a cishet man and the world is unfair. Unfortunately, Fuyumi is in no mental state to take care of her sister and Natsuo is a college student. So Saori Todoroki goes to live with her mom in Brazil, a woman she had little to no contact with throughout her life.
She promptly informs her mom she still wants to be a hero, that was a dream of hers and had nothing to do with her dad. So her mom puts her in a Brazilian hero school called Construindo o Futuro (building the future ). There, she meets Japanese descendent Izumi Midoryia. Izumis grandpa came from Japan during world War two (that actually happened, Brazil got a lot of Asian immigrants during the world wars .) Midoryias family has lots of consideration for their Japanese roots so she speaks a bit of Japanese, which helps a lot with Todorokis adaptation to the school seemed shes still struggling with her Portuguese.
So Izumi and Saori become besties and we get a Brazilian class 1A of heroes.
For this au I'm also thinking t4t Kiribaku, black Mina Ashido, petista Ochaco Uraraka and autistic tododeku!
If you read all of that, THANK U SO MUCH I'm literally so excited about this idea kskdjdhdbdbebdbdjdj

OK So yesterday I was hanging out with some old friends and somehow the terribleness of languages came up so I started talking about Portuguese (he speaks limited Spanish btw)
Anyway. This is a man who will get into (joking) arguments about how his dialect of Spanish is the only right one so you know it's going to be a fun conversation.
Basically I wrote "Eu tenho leite" and he said that Portuguese was like Spanish but with more "h"s. That was funny.
BUT ANYWAY THE REASON FOR THIS BIG CONTEXT DUMP WAS BECAUSE. We searched up how say car in both Portuguese and Spanish and it was spelled the same ..... But the Spanish roll their Rs while the Portuguese have an h sound.
Um anyways I was wondering if Portuguese requires you to roll your Rs a lot,,,,,,,, I'm terrible at rolling my Rs and my friends already make fun of me enough for that hgh {{>m<}}
Omg im so sorry this is from ages ago but I forgot 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It's been a busy week and my brain is blowing up. Alas, the show (me on the silly little internet) must go on.
Portuguese is just well articulated and good Spanish actually, and it's not my fault your friend can't appreciate our abundance of Hs >:( (jokes)
That actually just made me wheeze cause like... Brazilians are so horny, so actually we do have too many Hs 😭😭😭😭😭 lmaoooooo
Anyway, Spanish requires a lot more R rolling, but we still have some, so beware lmao. When we have double Rs, or the R is at the end then it's the H, straight through sound, but if it's alone between vowels, it's rolled, so carro or andar have the H sound, but caralho has a roll
The words are "car", "to walk" and a swear that ranges from an exclamation like damn!, to an exclamation like fuck! to just a word for penis so...
Brazilians swear a lot btw lmao
Also your friends sound so fun lmao!! Glad you can have fun with them :)

Omg Hihi I found your blog last night and I’m so thankful that you write Latina!reader <3
I have one request!! How about taking Eddie or Steve to a Latin party? Having them experience the whole Latino party scene MAKSKSK It can be modern day!
thank you so much !!! Hope you have an amazing day <3
hi hi hi baby!! i'm so glad you liked them! i looove the concept of steve and eddie going to a latin party hehe i think i got a bit carried away but yeah <3 btw, if we have any brazilians reading this, go follow me on my side account @nanciewheelers, where i post eddie/steve content in portuguese !!
oh man, they'd be so out of place when they arrived. mainly because they were so nervous that they were the first to arrive, because they totally believed that the party would actually start at 8pm (little did they know that your guests would only arrive almost at 9) and so they distracted themselves by helping your mom settle the table and finish decorating – we're going for a kinda-fancy birthday party here, okay? and eddie would definitely steal some of the sweets and stuff them in his pocket. but i think that they only came because steve went up to eddie and said, "y/n invited me for this party... if you go, i'll go" because he was terrified of being there alone :( because he knows you're gonna be busy socializing with all the guests and won't be talking to him the whole time.
but anyways, your mom is just so happy that someone is actually helping her to finish setting the party (even though you practically made all of the decorations and food by yourself), and she makes sure to thank them all the time. "oh, you're just too sweet!", that's what she says when steve picks up a heavy dish from the kitchen and he just smiles gently at her, which only makes her swoon even more. and you just stand beside her with a how dare you? look in your face because you were there the whole time!! what about your thanks? anyways, when you walk out of the kitchen, you find eddie eating all of his stolen sweets by the food table, already looking at what he would eat next. for some weird reason i feel like he would love the rice? or maybe feijão...
ok, but when it comes to the party itself, i feel like they'd be looking like two lost puppies in the beginning, watching you hug and kiss your family members as they arrive in groups. you'd often look behind you, to one of the tables right on the corner, and see their sad faces like you just committed some type of crime before them. and as soon as you stop saying your hellos, you're walking to their table, bringing some of your cousins with you just to get them to socialize. if they speak english, that's awesome! but if they don't, then you'll be translating everything and mediating the conversation. i feel like at least one of your cousins would have something in common with the boys. like, one of them is a jock and loves basketball, so they'd discuss the nba games with steve, and the other might like heavy rock or metal and they spend the whole night talking about metallica with eddie.
but your mom would always be so worried because there's never enough food on their plate :( and you actually have to coerce steve and eddie to go to the food table, because they tell you over and over again that they won't because then they would have to pass by your dad and your tios. and to say that they're terrified of them is a lie because they are, actually, scared shitless. it doesn't help that every time you go by with the boys one of your uncles tells eddie to cut his hair (because we all have that one tio).
but i feel like they would have a really good time in the end, especially because your tias love them. absolutely in love with how helpful and sweet they are and keep asking you stuff like, "which one is your boyfriend?" and "how long have you been dating?". and when they found out that you were, in fact, not dating steve or eddie, they were outraged because how could you not?? all of their exasperation is forgotten when they put eddie to sing la barca on the karaoke though.
the next day at school, they're both wearing sunglasses to cover up the fact that they're sleeping in the middle of class because they're not used to partying 'til four in the morning <3

⚠️ WHAT IS HAPPENING IN BRAZIL: a thread ⚠️
am i going insane or more of the world should care about a country generating covid variants that could spread internationally? right
spoiler alert: covid is killing us. badly. no, it's not this bad everywhere. yes, you should care.
our government is DELIBERATELY and CLEARLY trying to kill us, not only not doing anything but actually trying to stop any help from getting here, with censorship to go with it.
PLEASE, READ RHIS THREAD
it's NOT this bad everywhere:
"No other nation that experienced such a major outbreak is still grappling with record-setting death tolls and a health care system on the brink of collapse."
yes, you SHOULD care:
"Preliminary studies suggest that the variant that swept through the city of Manaus is not only more contagious, but it also appears able to infect some people who have already recovered from other versions of the virus."
you REALLY should care:
"And the variant has slipped Brazil’s borders, showing up in two dozen other countries and in small numbers in the United States."
1 in every 4 covid deaths WORLDWIDE is happening in brazil, INTERNATIONAL MEDIA ISN'T TALKING ABOUT THIS ENOUGH.
our president?
- calling it "a little flu"
- literally making trying to legally stop states from lockdown
- blocked any attempts to get vaccines here for months
- recommended meds with no scientific proof which caused SEVERAL other deaths for overuse of improper meds
he refuses to wear a mask in public but it's not just the things he isn't doing, it's the deliberate steps he takes to make sure ANYONE who tries to do ANYTHING to help (even the US!!!!!!!! OFFERING US VACCINES FOR MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!) is shut down.
we have no oxygen. no ICU beds. no proper masks. basic food is so expensive here the country is falling back to hunger, so whoever is not dying from covid is dying out of starvation or due to the complete and utter collapse of our healthcare system.
if you read the articles i post here you will know brazil has a RECORD of being GREAT in this type of scenario & getting vaccines to everyone fast as fuck.
this is a DELIBERATE ATTEMPT TO KILL US, i couldn't possibly stress that enough.
who is it killing? take a guess.
"The study also found that Black Brazilians were likelier to lose their jobs or face pay cuts than white people during the pandemic. The death rate in poorer cities has been substantially higher than in rich ones."
BY JANUARY OF THIS YEAR the ny times was reporting "The country has not yet approved any of the vaccines on the market."
NOT EVEN APPROVED. ANY. OF THE VACCINES.
this isn't a tragedy, this is our government's plan.
again, why are people not helping? i have no clue.
"On Friday, officials at the World Health Organization called the surge of cases in Brazil deeply troubling and warned that it could wreak havoc well beyond the country’s borders."
censorship? oh yeah, the president's son is trying to silence a guy who made a TWEET calling the president out. & that was only news not a shady unexplainable death bc the guy is famous and rich in the first place.
this is not the only threat he has made, btw. during his CAMPAIGN he said he'd kill people who opposed his government. that is how low we are.
10,3MI brazilians might starve to death and things are only getting worse:
have i proven my point? cuz honestly there is no lack of evidence, but i can go graphic if you need to hear what happens when a patient needs oxygen or an ambulance and our hospitals can't provide it.
no? yeah. better not.
"ok but what can we do"
TALK. ABOUT. THIS.
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS.
WHY IS THIS NOT EVERYWHERE.
WHY IS NOBODY HELPING.
i literally feel crazy, as if this is only happening in my head. every brazilian i know is desperate and nobody cares.
"ok but what else"
we need donations, badly. money for food, masks, literally all supplies. if you are a single person guess what THERE ARE NO ORGANISED WAY TO HELP YET you literally need to find a brazilian or learn portuguese to be able to get to local donations centres.
have i mentioned nobody cares? how is a country going through this massive of a crisis with a government trying to kill and silence us yet there people barely heard about this???? given IT IS CREATING DEADLY VARIANTS THAT ARE SPREADING BEYOND BORDERS
oh my god i feel insane
special call-out for portugal & also the US for fucking us up historically
https://t.co/JQ9LBkfSIV
per request i will make an english speaking video about brazil's covid situation to be posted @ youtube.com/c/AndressaBuss later this week

Hello dear :) I hope you are doing ok !
Since you talked about you started to be interested in your country history, I have a question stuck in my mind.
What your favorite portuguese historical period ? and why ? Maybe have a fav king ? queen ?
Bonne journée !
Hi lovely! :) I'm good and I hope you are, too! And oh, I'm not portuguese, I'm brazilian heh, maybe my answer in that ask was confusing, so sorry! My country was discovered by the portuguese circa 1500 given the Treaty of Tordesillas, which btw our dear Papa Borgia played a role with it. If Rodrigo had decided to divide the newly discovered places outside of Europe differently, the spaniards might have discovered us instead of the portuguese, and I would be speaking spanish right now....that's a constant thought in my head ngl hah, but anyways, since the discovery, we of course established a tie with Portugal :)) and we had an Imperial period, which it's my favorite period <3 I really like Dom Pedro I as emperor (our Pedrão as he is sometimes affectionately called here, followed by the nicknames "the Liberator" and "the Soldier King") and his son Dom Pedro II, as well as the empresses Maria Leopoldina of Austria and Teresa Cristina of the Two Sicilies. Merci pour la question et Bonne journée à vous, aussi! 🥰
#ask answered#hardcorefangirlgroupie#completely oblivious to it my father-in-law *coughs* I MEAN rodrigo dsjdsjds actually had a place in shaping my country's history#and we even have a city here named after his great-grandson the holy~~ Juan and i love that sm <33

If I had to compare Pale's voice to something Id say the guy from heathers?? I forget his name but kinda like that but with a bit of new york accent in there, maybe a little deeper
Oh I know who you're talking about and idk. I'm like really bad at trying to explain voices n stuff, cuz I know exactly what his voice sounds like but it's hard to explain.
I was tryna find a VA close to what he sounds like but it's not easy. Ok so to describe his voice hmm? So his voice is just a bit deep and he has that suave-guy tone like kinda fruity but rough? Like idk sexy?
Oh god his accent? I'm really bad with English accents I just know the very distinct ones outside the US. Inside the US only Texans and Brooklyn accent I know. If you guys think an accent fits Pale lemme know I love learning about this kinda stuff too.
Pale speaks Portuguese (Brazilian cuz Portugal's accent is super weirdd imho) too btw. And he actually has a Paulista accent (From São Paulo) but mostly for slang terms like "pô meu" "mermão" "meu" "tipo assim" "da hora" "veeelhoo". I'd say these slangs are like the equivalent to surfer slangs in English?

Please, could you give us more Argentina!Annabeth and Brasilian!Percy? You literally left me wanting to know more about them! I beg you, not even art, headcanons or something of South America!Percabeth, please please please.
oh sure!! this is actually half mine and half giu’s - @demidorks - cause i provide percy’s part. annabeth’s is all hers haha btw this is not all percabeth, we added a little individual hc for them here too
their beggining wouldn’t be much different from the canon, but they became closer after they found out their families were both from south america, in a strange way
but they also understand why they have all that rivalry from the beggining. it wasn’t only for poseidon and athena, but also for brazil and argentina
latinos usually greet people - people they know and people they’ve never met - with kisses on the cheek. when they met and percy greeted annabeth like this she was kinda surprised - but that also called her attention to that boy. percy is all like ‘oh sorry, i didn’t mean to -’ and she replied ‘no, no. it’s fine. i’m actually used to it’. they talk and find out they’re from brother countries
btw, talking about cheek kisses: here in brazil, the number of kisses used in a greeting varies. it depends on where you’re from. if you’re from rio, for example, it’s 2 kisses, one on each cheek. some places people use 3 or just 1. annabeth and percy struggle a little at first, cause they got confused on how many kisses the other use in a greeting. but eventually they got it
btw brazilians are very affectionate. we hug a lot. even people that are kind of strangers - a friend of your friend, for example. and argentines are also like that, but a little less. annabeth leaves all hugs and affection to people that are important to her. especially to percy
also, it’s very common to brazilians to greet people at stores or wtvr with a good morning and a little bit of small talk. so when percy and annabeth are getting coffee somewhere, at 7 am, annabeth thinks it’s super cute and funny when percy is greeting the girl at the store and she’s a little bit confused cause ?
there are not many latino children at camp half-blood, but the little bunch that’s there think that annabeth is a little bit presumptuous because argentines have a reputation for believing themselves are superior and as annabeth is not in the mood to try to change that, she just lets it be
annabeth is always muttering things in spanish, and while some children understand spanish, percy is the only one who can understand the argentinean spanish annabeth speaks, cause the girl speaks with the most difficult jargon
btw they love speaking in portunhol. (portunhol is a mix between portuguese and spanish, it happens when people only speak one of those languages and try to understand each other in a conversation. it happens a lot here, cause portuguese and spanish are pretty close). percy and annabeth understand each other so well, even tho those are different languages and different accents
btw they mock each other’s accents a looot
they love telenovelas. south america is famous for its telenovelas and even tho the demigods think they watch it just to have fun and maybe mock it, the don’t. no kidding. they’re pretty into it
percy likes to spend the holidays in brazil with his cousins and stuff. he stays here a long time like from christmas till the carnival. 2 whole months, maybe more. so when he comes back to ny he has this thic brazilian accent, like when he says ‘hot dog’ he goes ‘hothy doggy’ and everyone is like 'what'
OH and he slips into portuguese by accident a lot in those times too. like. a lot. when he’s around his friends and that happens, annabeths needs to translate what he’s saying cause he legit forgets he’s not in brazil anymore ?
another thing: he always use our popular sayings with his friends. but the thing is they ony make sense in portuguese, so they’re all pretty confused when he does that. for example: ‘oh man, you better take the little horse out of the rain, cause i’m not doing it’ or ‘you must pay the duck, my friend. you messed up’. and ‘hey, take you feet off the coffee table! you think this is mama joana’s house?’
sharing their countrie’s urban legends!! annabeth talking about the pombero and percy telling stories about the saci or the curupira. there are even the legends that are known by both countries, like o homem do saco - or el hombre de la bolsa for annabeth. they love sharing their culture with each other
common percabeth dialogue: ‘i love annabeth more than anything’ ‘even more than brigadeiro?’ ‘…….’ ‘and coxinha?’ ‘ok i love you very much but nope’
there you have it! remember: those are hc inspired on our life experience and what we know about our countries. even if you’re from brazil or argentina you might not relate to some of these. it happens. i don’t know about argentina, but brazil is a big ass country, things can be pretty different depending on where you live. - btw i can only stand for brazil here. the argentina part is all giu’s. i don’t know what i’m talking about when it comes to that ahha
#this was fun!!#oh and i feel like i need to say it - again - those are HEADCANONS#dont get all stupid on us#ok? ok#percabeth#latino! percabeth#headcanons#talky juli

Lol I am Brazilian and I don’t get why everyone is so upset about your anon, I was not offended by her message at all, people need to chill. It’s true, our language is not the most simple and spoken on the world, I don’t feel that the anon wanted to hurt the people in her message, I understand that some person are pissed that Matt didn’t put subtitles at least in Portuguese and I did not think about it but it’s true that he could also add them for his deaf followers.
@buturnotneymar said:But who knows, perhaps he will add them later. Anyway, anon, I’m Brazilian and your message did not offend me at all, it’s ok girl 💗✌🏼 And a lot of people here in Brazil find Matheus unbearable, so I understand you 😂
Haha, yeah I also stopped following him on Insta - after I saw his Instastory with Ney I followed him for a while - but he irks me the wrong way… Idunno why… So I stopped following him since I also saw he left Paris a few days later haha.
And thanks for your sweet message to my anon! I’m glad you weren’t offended by it. 😊 I indeed also agree with you and thinks she means no harm by it, but that she just genuinely doesn’t know. Otherwise she wouldn’t have taken the time to explain herself in a 4-way ask afterwards.
(But you will see other are pissed under here…)
Anonymous said:I don’t give a fuck about the whole English captions mess but the comments about the Portuguese Speaking countries is borderline shocking. You fit about 3 or 4 Portugals in Angola or Mozambique honey. I know anon meant no harm, it’s just a mirror on how little people care/know/study Africa but please honey do some studying. You probably want to be done with this unrelated topic but I think its important to point this out you might have Africans followers that feel very irrelevant with such remark
I knew that part of her message would be controversial, thats why I said. “I’m not gonna comment on the small countries little know countries. But as far as I know they aren’t little. But ok… I get you mean no harm. 😊”
I don’t think the topic is irrelevant, but I also don’t think it’s my job to educate my anon when I genuinely feel that she didnt mean any harm. If she did she wouldn’t have taken the time by explaining herself in a 4 part message. Many people who say something that doesn’t fall ok on here don’t take the time to come here and apologize so that alone tells me she meant no harm. And with my answer ‘as far as I know they arent little’ I hope I made her curious and Google it for herself to see how big they are.
When she wrote in her first message that Portuguese is spoken in 2 countries I Googled it to see if that was true etc and I found out it’s also spoken in Angola and Mozambique and how huge they are citizen wise. But I’m just a curious person who googles/questions almost every statement people make - also irl - but you can’t expect everyone to do that.
Again I don’t find the topic irrelevant, but I genuinely feel the anon don’t meant it in a harmful way. More that she genuinely doesn’t know.
Anonymous said:your anon about the language of the video, she is just a dumb racist, I agree with your other anons, she is so ignorant she should shut up. And she can keep her excuses, it’s easy to apologize after being racist, just because people have reacted. She has no respect for Brazilians, I’m not Brazilian but it must be vexing for them. If she sees this message, I would like to tell her to go fuck herself, Ash you should not accept that kind of people on your blog, it’s supposed to be a positive place.
I can repeat myself over here, but I genuinely think the anon meant no harm.
Many anons who say something that doesn’t fall good on here DONT take the time to explain themselves and apologize. She did that. Even if it’s the internet that’s a good/courage (that’s a bit too heavy but I have no idea what the good word for it is) thing to do.
Ok her wording (about the small countries) isn’t the best and that’s why I said what I said about the little countries but I’m sure by now - seeing how people react - she will google it. She btw said nothing about Brazilians in general. She said something about Matheus - who is Brazilian - but nothing about what she said had anything to do with being Brazilian or Brazilians in general.
I don’t like the strong words you are using btw. You want my blog to be a positive place, but the words you are using are far from positive. You could have also said in a constructive manner that Portugal isn’t even the second biggest Portugese speaking country and doesn’t even fall in the top 3. THAT would have been a positive way to educatie/share your knowledge with someone.

There is not enough characteristics to keep Brazilians united.
Language you may think, well there's plenty cities in the South who only/mostly speak only German, Italian and so on, depending on their heritage; there's a lot of Japanese/2nd and 3rd generation nipo-brazilians who speak only/mostly Japanese (there's literally newspapers and stores and items in Japanese in the neighborhood called Liberty in São Paulo as well as other cities through the state of SP, in Marília, where I once went, there are parks with Japanese architecture and solely sakura trees; the percentenge of Shintoists of Japanese people/descendents in Brazil is bigger than in Japan itself. Btw I know that percentage does not equate number of people but you got what I meant); there's a lot of people in the North who only/mostly speak indigenous languages or a mix of indigenous and Portuguese languages. Celebrations? Well, there is a few that are celebrated throughout most of the country such as June Party, most Catholic celebrations really, carnaval and there's probably a few more but none that i can recall sorry. Culture? Heck nah, each state has it's own culture and in big/populous states there's usually dozens of little cultures; it is true that each region is more-or-less connected but honestly I think the only thing that really brings the people together is hatred towards our president-through-coup and maybe Christianity, though it is in decline.
I agree with all that was said in the post previous to my response but I think it's funny to look at countries like Brazil. We literally have a meme that says "I'm doing/feeling/etc X in my country [state the person lives]", an exemple: "Quite happy with my vodka drink here in my country São Paulo".
In my state, Minas Gerais, we have a day to celebrate the guy who tried to leader a revolution to make our state its own country (April 21st) and there's plenty statues of him around the capital Belo Horizonte and even a city with his name: Tiradentes (not his actual name, it's a nickname because 'tira dentes' means 'to remove teeth' and he was, you guessed it, an odontologist). This guy was hanged and quartered and decades later Pedro Américo made a painting of him where he looks damn like mainstream Jesus Christ:
Ok maybe ethnicity? Lol no, 53% of our population is composed of negros (here it may sound offensive cause in English that word usually has a bad connotation, but in Portuguese it means someone who's skin ain't white/has african descent but is not necessarily black. Pardos fall into the negro category though this is actually a controversial conversation here anyways) and yet they're treated as a minority.
I'm tired cause I'm sick so I won't say more but there is plenty more. Sorry.
Trying to be too inclusive is what kills a community.
A community is inherently defined by the fact it’s formed by a specific group of people, and others aren’t a part of that. Not everybody is going to belong to a certain group or culture. If you can’t find a spot within it where you belong, then in all likelihood it’s just not the group for you. That’s fine. There are other groups where you’ll belong.
What’s not fine is demanding the group changes themselves to create a spot for you. What’s not fine is telling the group they’re wrong about their own group’s rules, and rewrite the rules for them. What’s not fine is screeching about tolerance and inclusivity because you happen to fall outside the group.
The fact you feel negatively “boxed in” is not a sign that a community needs to change. It’s a sign that you don’t belong there.
