This is an extension of the same universe as this Jisung fic and this Seungmin fic, but you can definitely read this as a standalone! The skate park right outside your campus was always an interesting sight. There were always a lot of people around, enjoying themselves on the gentle slopes and plateaus. You were always mystified by the way the skateboarders could so easily throw themselves into the air, seemingly unafraid of taking a tumble to the concrete floor.

You’d pass by the skate park thrice a week in the early evening, on your way to a part-time shift at Imperium- the closest bar to your university. Your shifts ran late sometimes, bordering on midnight when you’d step out of Imperium’s back door.

More often than not, you’d encounter the same lone figure in the skatepark on your way back- an average-sized, lean figure who had a way with the skateboard that you’d never seen anybody have before. The first time you spotted him, you stopped and watched for a few moments as he made his way up the slopes like it was nothing at all- he was that good.

Skateboarding wasn’t your thing as much as people watching- there were so many interesting people in the world, so many different kinds of personalities that you couldn’t get enough. You would write them into stories of back-alley romance, tales of rippling fantasy and chronicles of traitorous woe, reveling in the way your worlds and characters built themselves up along the plot.

It became an unconscious habit, seeing the boy(it seemed like a boy, judging from his impeccably built shoulders and a penchant for extremely sleeveless muscle tops.) on your way back from your late bartending shifts.

He was curious, you decided. Who only visited the skate park when it was at it’s emptiest despite being so good? Did he not like attention? Was he shy? You made a mental note to try and talk to him one day- you weren’t hesitant with your curiosities. Someday, when you weren’t bogged down by your already numerous Works in progress and university, you would approach him and find out more about this midnight skateboarder.

But as it turned out, you didn’t have to wait too long.

“Y/N! Where were you, it’s almost 1 a.m!” Your sorority sister Chaeyoung sat up on her bed as you walked into your shared room. Her short blonde hair fluttered around her face as she slipped off the bed, bounding towards you. “I had a longer shift than normal, Imperium was weirdly full.” You responded, pulling your bag off your shoulder.

“Alpha Phi Alpha is throwing another rager. Do you want in?”

That’s when you heard it. You’d been so absorbed in the music from your own earphones that you didn’t even noticed the deep bass thumping through the air, the muffled cheers and screams of enjoyment. Of course there was a party going on, it was a Friday night.

Life next to a fraternity house wasn’t the most peaceful, but you didn’t mind it. Your sorority, Delta Kappa, was housed right next to the Alpha Phi Alpha frat house, close enough to share a fenced wall.

The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity was the most sought after fraternity on campus; acceptance meant instant skyrocketing of social worth. It was all extremely cliché: the best frat on campus, filled with the smartest, most attractive guys, throwing the most memorable parties and yet maintaining their stellar record of being good at pretty much everything.

“Sure, why not? I have some energy to let off.” You smile, throwing open your shared wardrobe. Chae’s eyes shone wickedly, she was sold by the idea of any kind of party. “Are any of the other sisters coming??”

“Jennie, Lia and Yeri already left. I thought I’ll wait around for you.”

“How nice of you, Chae,” You huff out another laugh as you held out an outfit for her to see. “Ooh, I like it. Now hurry up, right?”

“Okay, okay!!”

20 minutes later, you were walking into your next-door frat house with Chae, already warmed by the electric vibe. “Y/N!!! You’re here!!” There he was-tall, blonde and devastatingly handsome. Also seemingly tipsy, by the looks of it. Hwang Hyunjin was one of your closest friends, but he had a hard time handling his liquor, even though he would stoutly disagree when sober.

“What took you so long?” He slurred slightly, slinging an arm around you and giving you a tight, alcohol-smelling hug. “Unlike some of you, I have a job, Hyunin,” You quipped, returning his embrace and pecking his cheek- your usual greeting.

“Whatever, you’re here now.” He scoffed and ruffled your hair. “ We just made some new additions to the frat, you should come and meet them.”

“Sure, why not?” So Hyunjin took your hand and led you through the throngs of partying people. Soon enough, you stepped onto the roof of the frat house, a fairly clean space for being set up by a troupe of boys. Fairy lights left the people on the terrace bathed in soft yellow lights, a rather aesthetic sight.

There were around a handful of people lounging around on the couches and carpets, but Hyunjin led you to a particular group of people nearest to the railing, laughing and talking in a circle. You knew he had a gang of friends from all over the campus that just seemed to have an inexplicable pull towards each other.

You knew some of them by appearance from other ragers- music major Jisung with the cheeky smile, law student Seungmin with the puppy-eyes and an acidic tongue, Changbin with his almost flawlessly built body (you always paused for a second to admire his physique) and Minho, the guy who for some ominous reason always had bruised knuckles.

“Y/N! Hey!” Jeongin exclaimed, eyes brightening up in an endearing smile. “Hey Innie,” you grinned, happy to see another familiar face in the junior from the same major as you. “Yes yes hello and all that, Innie,” Hyunjin rolled his eyes, ignoring the look of mock offense he got from Jeongin. “I brought Y/N to meet Chan, coz he’s new to the frat, and my favorite sorority girl should be the first to know about the new fish.”

He threw an arm out, pointing to one of the guys leaning against the railing of the terrace, all smiles and black hair. You extended your own smile towards him, already giving him a casual once over- He wasn’t too tall, with impeccably built shoulders in a muscle top….wait. The question was out of your mouth before you could stop it.

“Are you the weirdo that goes skateboarding at midnight?”

A pause rippled across everybody in the circle, the smile on Chan’s face reducing to an incredulous splutter as Jisung choked on a giggle- that did it. All of the guys dissolved into peals of laughter, loud and unrestrained.

“Sorry about that,” You said, letting out an embarrassed sigh as you stepped around the circle to get closer to Chan. “I’ve seen you in the skate park when I’m getting back after work.”

He shrugged, his handsome features still splashed with sheepishness. “It’s fine, it was just a matter of time, I guess.” Over the laughter, you could hear how smooth his voice was, like melting chocolate.

“If it counts for anything, I thought you’re really good at it.” You weren’t the beat around the bush with your words. “You made it look so easy.”

A light blush reddened his ears as he grinned at the compliment. “Thanks.. Y/N, was it?”

You spent the rest of the night with the boys, caught in easy banter- but particularly, you got to know Chan. He had been living off campus until he’d decided to apply for the fraternities on a whim, ending up with an acceptance to Alpha phi Alpha. He was a business major, with a creative minor in music producing- just like Changbin. He was a natural extrovert, effortless with conversation and people skills, a man married to his work-to the point that he regularly lost sleep over it. He was also a bit of a dork, you noticed, with his random bursts of exaggerated hand movements and lame jokes.

The sun was beginning to rise when you decided to get back home. “It was nice getting to know you, Channie,” you grinned, pulling him into an easy hug and pecking his cheek.

“Likewise, Y/N.” He smiled his captivating smile at you, before walking you to the frat house door. “Before I go, what do you say about exchanging numbers?” You asked. He was a good sort, the kind of guy who’d make a really good friend. Why not?

Chan agreed amicably and sent you off with promises to catch up soon, leaving you feeling light and happy.

To your surprise, he ended up dropping by your sorority the very next morning, asking if you were up for waffles at a nearby café. You happened to be awake at the time and decided to tag along with him- even though it was 6 in the morning.

“The guys refuse to wake up early and join me,” he complained, holed up in the café with plates of waffles and orange juice in front of you. “Chan, be honest,” You chuckled. “The only reason we’re awake at ass o’ clock is because both of us can’t sleep to save our lives.” He rolled his eyes in amusement. “Stop wise cracking and get on eating, Y/N.”

That café run cemented your day-old friendship into one of peaceful camaraderie, a safe space for each other within the chaos of your friend circles.

Winter melted slowly into spring, bringing tidings of new beginnings, assignment and semester exams and subsequently, end of semester parties. As always, Alpha phi Alpha was throwing a rager of a party that was expected to be the best all semester. Your entire sorority had received invitations and were all excited to drown out the stress of exams week. You, on the other hand, were also thinking about something else. Someone, rather-Chan.

You and Chan had only grown close over the course of the past months, gradually bonding over ungodly morning cafe runs, late night texts between breaks and video calls asking for outfit opinions.

You frequented the frat house more often, a fact that Hyunjin rejoiced (and teased you relentlessly) over. Chaeyoung only gazed at you with a suggestive look in her eyes when you slipped into the room at 2 a.m in the morning with one of Chan’s many black hoodies hanging off your shoulders. What, it was winter, it was cold on your way back from Imperium and he offered! Chan, to his credit, seemed to be just as invested in this newly growing friendship as you were. He walked you back from Imperium whenever he was at the skatepark, invited you on his midnight skate runs, even almost breaking his arm trying to teach you how to balance on his skateboard.

It was an outlet for his energy, he explained one day. Sometimes working on music or going on a run didn’t give him the same sense of calm that skateboarding did. It wasn’t about the attention for him- with Chan, it almost never was. Not surprisingly, you liked that about him. You liked Chan, for all his insomniac, stress skateboarding, black hoodie hoarding self.

The party was already in full swing when you and Chaeyoung knocked on the main door. One of the frat boys you didn’t know opened the door, smirking at you before yelling over his shoulder. “Yo, Chan, your girl’s here!”

Your eyes widened, exchanging an amused glance with Chae, who was openly laughing at your expression. Chan’s girl? Not that you hated the sound of that.. But you were just a friend- a friend who had a crush on him.. Right??

Chan hurried to the door that very instant, shoo-ing his frat brother off. “Sorry about that,” he murmured , exchanging hugs and cheek kisses with you and Chae. “To the usual spot?” he grinned, comically offering you his arm.

“Of course, my dearest,” you gushed, the two of you bursting into a fit of giggles as you linked your arm with his, allowing Chan to steer you towards the staircase leading up to the terrace. Once on the rooftop, you were met with a familiar sight- 7 boys giggling and talking amongst themselves in a loose circle near the railing. “Chan, don’t hog all of Y/N’s attention, she’s here for the party, you know?” Jisung called out the second he spotted the two of you heading towards them.

Amidst a gale of laughter, Chan frowned indignantly, opening his mouth to give Jisung a tongue lashing before you broke in, a sly smile stamped across your own face. “Who says I’d mind it??”

A chaotic chorus of 7 male voices responding to you had you laughing aloud, scanning Chan’s face for any discomfort. But he only had flaming ears, shifty eyes, and a shy smile trained on you- a smile that shifted from shy to teasing in split seconds.

“If that’s the case, then I’m stealing Y/N for the night, you guys!” He declared, grabbing your hand and pulling you towards the door the two of you had just walked through. “Chan, what are you doing?” You breathed out in amusement, not pulling your hand away. Your heart was beating out of your chest at everything going on, especially with Chan’s warm hand enclosing yours and the way he’d just smiled at you-

“Something I’ve wanted to do for a while now,” Chan’s voice was exactly as you knew it, smooth, warm melted chocolate. “Come with me to the skatepark. Just for a while.” Who were you to say no to that voice?

Chaeyoung opened the door to the sorority early next morning, squawking in laughter when she saw who stood in front of her. You in Chan’s hoodie, your hand in his, your lipstick staining the side of Chan’s jaw and the kicker- you hugging Chan, quickly landing a soft kiss on his lips before skipping into the house.

Chaeyoung could only look at the adoring look on Chan’s face as you disappeared into the house and close the door, laughing quietly. Ah, young love.

Synopsis: Han Tae-sul, a genius engineer and millionaire, barely survives a plane crash. While trying to investigate how the plane crashed, he uncovers a mysterious suitcase, which seems to have appeared out of nowhere. From there, chaos seems to follow him no matter where he goes, and eventually, he meets Gang Seo-hae, a woman who saves his life. She has come from a different time with a mission that she is willing to sacrifice everything for. And remember, the important thing is not where, but when.

,Right off the bat, this drama gave me serious Memories of the Alhambra vibes, which I love!

And the second thing I noticed was how gorgeous the drama was (with my very limited knowledge); the coloring, the way they shot it, I loved it. There were multiple times when I took notice of how smooth the camerawork/directing was, especially during the action scenes, where it can quickly become several cuts per second. I don't know much about directing and camerawork, but I feel like this was just superb. Definitely wouldn't have been as good a drama if they didn't have that flow.

After the first episode, I was super confused, but also intrigued, and I wanted to know more. And it was like that all throughout the drama. They tell you the bare minimum of what you need to know, and then expect you to connect all the dots yourself. Later on, they do catch you up to speed, but then add on another layer that has you questioning everything all over again.

They tell the story in a sort of spiral circle, where every once in a while, we end up back at a sort of checkpoint where we are now caught up, only to realize that everything has actually changed. I loved it! I feel like it was the type of storytelling that Eternal Monarch was trying to do, but they failed in my opinion. Especially with the rules they set.

With time travel (which I am usually the first to turn off when it happens on a show, I hate it), you have to be so careful with how you handle the story and the changes it would make. But I really do feel like this drama set some rules that could make sense and then followed them all throughout the story. If I did get mad at some points, they eventually explained it, and it would make sense.

Also, warning time: This does get a bit dark, and deals with death and suicidal thoughts later in the drama.

And finally, I love love love Gang Seo-hae. A badass female lead who likes pink flowers and plushies, kicking ass and taking names with her glitter-decorated gun? Yes, please! She's seen and experienced the horrors of the world and can very well take care of herself in a dystopian future where you have to kill to survive, but she is still just a young woman at heart who likes theme parks and pop music.

There was one thing where I was legitimately disappointed in this drama, but that had nothing to do with the plot; the amount of BTS placements in the dystopian future really threw me off the story. Usually, I can ignore product placements, but this was so blatantly out of place and I just... ugh, why?!

If you're into sci-fi and time travel, you are going to love this!

The 13 Best Korean Dramas Of 2020

Bae Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk partner up in ‘Start-Up.’

Although 2020 will make the history books for all the wrong reasons, it was a great year for Korean dramas. With a slew of big budget hits and small quirky stories, k-dramas offered plenty of innovative entertainment to help viewers happily pass pandemic time.

Every drama viewer may have a different list of favorites, but here are a few 2020 dramas that stood out in terms of originality, subject matter and execution.

Park Seo-joon created one of the year’s most memorable k-drama characters in ‘Itaewon Class.’

Itaewon Class

The year started off with the quirky hit Itaewon Class, in which Park Seo-joon’s character overcomes so many odds that he naturally sympathizes with those who society may shun. When opening a cafe he hires employees that others might not and those choices contribute to his success. Park’s generous character is one of the year’s most likable and the drama also features top-notch performances by Kim Da-mi, Kwon Nara, Yoo Jae-Myung and Ahn Bo-hyun.

Why see it? If you’ve never been to Seoul’s international neighborhood of Itaewon, this drama takes you there. The drama provides plenty of feel-good moments and a great soundtrack, including a contribution by BTS member V.

Kim Hee-ae and Park Hae-joon star in ‘The World of The Married.’

World of the Married

Although this drama has not yet made it to all international audiences, it was a huge hit in Korea, enjoying both critical success and nationwide ratings of 28.37%. World of the Married, an adaptation of the BBC series Dr. Foster, stars Kim Hae-ae. Kim plays a doctor who thinks her life is perfect until she learns that her husband, played by Park Hae-joon, has been cheating on her. Even worse, all their friends know.

Why see it? Kim won Best Actress at the Baeksang Awards for playing the drama’s protagonist Ji Sun-woo and the drama was a breakout hit for supporting actress Han Seo-hee. There’s also the guilty pleasure of watching a woman scorned exact revenge on those who betrayed her.

The legal drama ‘Hyena’ starred Kim Hye-soo and Ju Ji-hoon.

Hyena

The drama’s leading characters, played by Kim Hye-soo and Ju Ji-hoon, each have their own approach to practicing law. She’s a scrappy small-time lawyer with questionable ethics and he’s a self-satisfied high-profile lawyer at a top firm. Despite their differences—and getting off to a bad start when she scams him—they turn out to be good for each other.

Why see it? Ju delivers a pitch-perfect performance, with his every twitch and grimace creating an unforgettable character. Ju and Kim have undeniable chemistry that sizzles through episodes of fast-paced high-stakes legal entanglements.

Bae Doona played a zombie-fighting nurse in the second season of ‘Kingom.’

Kingdom 2

The second season of this historical zombie drama was even better than the first. Kingdom 2 also stars Ju Ji-hoon as the prince trying to save his country from a zombie invasion as well as inner court corruption. What makes the second season better than the first is a larger role for actress Bae Doona, whose character takes time out from nursing the sick to battle the undead.

Why see it: It’s a zombie story with a historical and moral twist.

Start Up

Nam Joo-Hyuk and Bae Suzy star in this story of a small tech start-up that gets a chance to compete on a bigger stage. When Bae’s character Seo Dal-mi was young she received encouraging letters from a man named Nam Do-san, but the letters were really written by Kim Seon-ho’s character Han Ji-pyeong. When a grown-up Dal-mi decides to find the real Do-san, played by Nam, Ji-pyeong asks Do-san to pretend he really wrote the letters. Do-san and Dal-mi are perfect for each other but their budding relationship is based on a lie.

Why see it? The story of how the start-up gets started is interesting. Each of the actors—from the leads to the supporting cast— is imperfectly endearing and Kim wins this year’s unofficial prize for being the most appealing second lead.

Lee jun-ki is a potential serial killer married to the detective played by Moon Chae-won in ‘Flower … [] of Evil.’

Flower of Evil

What would you do if you found out you were married to a serial killer? It might be happening to Moon Chae-won’s police detective character in Flower of Evil. Her devoted husband, played by Lee Jun-ki, has a mysterious past that ties him to a serial killer. Did he also commit murders? If he is a serial killer, does his wife love him enough to look past the incriminating clues?

Why see it? Although some of the drama’s plot occasionally veers into the illogical, the relationship between the leads is so charismatic that the drama acquired a loyal and enthusiastic following. The mystery is sufficiently complex and Lee’s tortured performance as the suspected serial killer is mesmerizing.

Park So-dam played Park Bo-gum’s makeup artist in ‘Record of Youth.’

Record of Youth

Record of Youth features ambitious likable protagonists trying to find their place in a highly competitive world. Park Bo-gum plays a model so charming it’s hard to imagine why he’s not already a success at the story’s start. Park So-dam plays a talented make-up artist with dreams. She’s also a devoted fan of his modeling career.

Why see it? Park Bo-gum’s character is as bright as a shiny penny, ever optimistic and upbeat, despite not having much support for his dreams. Watching Park So-dam act is always a pleasure and the real star of the drama might be Han Jin-hee, who plays Park Bo-gum’s supportive grandfather.

Seo Ye-ji aggressively pursues Kim Soo-hyun in ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.’

It’s Okay Not To Be Okay

Easily the most visually appealing drama of 2020, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay stars two of k-drama’s most photogenic actors Seo Ye-ji and Kim Soo-hyun as a twisted children’s book author and the psychiatric nurse she needs to calm her nightmares. Not only are the actors beautiful, but the drama’s graphics, cinematography and costumes are also gorgeous.

Why see it? The drama explores the topics of autism and the mental scars created by early trauma. Oh Jung-se’s performance as Kim’s autistic brother was one of the best of the year.

‘The Good Detective’ is a fast-paced crime thriller starring Son Hyun-joo and Jang Seung-jo.

The Good Detective

The Good Detective delivers a Scandi-noir vibe with its insightful character development plus some over-the-top, superhero police action scenes. The drama stars Son Hyun-joo, who might have the most expressive face of any k-drama actor, and Jang Seung-jo as a detective whose super-power is having a fortune.

Why see it? The Good Detective is an involving police procedural with top-rate performances. Oh Jung-se plays a hard-hearted villain, a dramatically different role than his vulnerable character in It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.

Nana plays a woman who pursues politics for a paycheck despite Park Sung-hoon’s objections.

Into The Ring

The wry comedy stars Nana, formerly a member of k-pop group After School, and Park Sung-hoon, who recently played a convincing but comical killer in Psychopath Diary. Nana plays a plucky unemployed woman who runs for office, motivated largely by the paycheck, but also from a sense of justice. Although Park initially finds her irritating, he eventually helps her fight local corruption.

Why see it? Nana is so charismatic in this role, viewers may want to see everything she’s ever done. She and Park develop a low-key lovable comic rapport that keeps a story about local politics happily enjoyable.

‘My Dangerous Wife’ is a cat-and-mouse mystery within the story of a marriage.

My Dangerous Wife

In this dark comedy Choi Won-young plays a chef who plans to murder his wealthy wife, so he can inherit her money, but when he arrives home with a poisoned bottle of wine he finds she has been kidnapped. The note the kidnappers left behind warns him not to contact the police or they will kill his wife. Should he? It sounds like an opportunity.

Why see it: Interesting plot twists and turns make this drama fascinating to the very last episode. The complex storyline involves a mistress, a mysterious old friend, a detective with a suspicious wife, and a set of curious next door neighbors with secrets of their own.

Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin experience an impossible love in ‘Crash Landing On You.’

Crash Landing On You

Crash Landing On You, which first aired in Dec. 2019, successfully introduced a wider international audience to the joys of k-drama viewing. The mega-hit, starring Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, follows the story of a South Korean heiress who accidentally lands in North Korea and is helped by a North Korean officer at the risk of his own life.

Why see it? Everything about the drama is top-notch—the cinematography, the romantic storyline and the excellent performances from the lead and supporting actors. The drama also offers some interesting insight into North Korean daily life.

Shin Sung-rok stars in the paranormal thriller ‘Kairos.’

Kairos

Kairos is a tense paranormal thriller about karmic debt. In this drama two people who live in different times stumble on a supernatural way to talk and thus untangle their preventable personal tragedies. Shin Sung-rok plays a callous businessman whose daughter is kidnapped. Lee Se-young plays a woman whose mother disappears. Together they must change fate but they can’t connect in their own time. This plot device was used in the film The Call and the k-drama Signal, but it feels fresh in Kairos, given the carefully crafted moments of suspense and some intriguing performances.

Why see it? Both Shin and supporting actor Ahn Bo Hyun do an excellent job of portraying men who question what they once held sacred.

You had a lovely dessert at your fave icecream shop, courtesy to Jungkook for giving you free banana sundaes. Charlie came along too of course, as if she’d pass up free icecream. You talked about when you were gonna do it, and you clarified if his girlfriend really approved the whole situation. He said she did, and you were relieved but at the same time still nervous about it. You were gonna kiss Jungkook, and it was gonna be your first.(the boy you bumped your lip with cos he snapped his head towards you so fast doesn’t count so) Just thinking about it is giving you all the nerves.

Your first kiss was really gonna be for pity huh. how unfortunate for you. At least you’re helping someone, someone that’s your soulmate that is. The good thing about having soulmates in this world is at least, they’re purposeful. Not like the ones you read in books who are just soulmates and then what? they kiss and fall in love- lmao what do they contribute to society? maybe you’re bitter cos no one’s ever liked you before, but you at least have a point, No matter how shitty it is.

Anyway, After you guys finished your dessert Charlie went home, as you both decided to do the thing now at his place. In his room. When you arrived at Jungkook’s dorm room, you noticed that it was clean and quite organized. Not really what you were expecting a guy’s room to be. He had posters of linkin park, and IU lmao. Albeit, you were really surprised that the jock’s room was neat. Your zoning out was interrupted by the hot jock speaking.

“Uh…You should make yourself comfortable Y/N. I mean, you can. Let’s get it done with so it’ll be over and I don’t have to bother you anymore.” He said not meaning to be cold, but just being honest. “Of course.” you replied indifferently. You sat on his bed as you didn’t really find somewhere else that was comfortable to do your smooching- lol smooching, now you’ve become cringy.

Jungkook sat soon after- he changed his shirt, which he asked you if you didn’t mind as men didn’t have such big tits anyway, and he was trying to make the mood lighter. You agreed of course, you didn’t mind seeing shirtless men. You had male neighbors before who didn’t even care to put on a shirt when they went out. Also, you didn’t understand why girls in kdramas would scream if they saw one, it wasn’t such a big deal. But then you thought, maybe it’s because koreans are conservative that’s why they’re shocked when they see shirtless guys.

Actually, you did mind that Jungkook changed in front of you. His abs were so delectable you wanted to lick them. You weren’t a pervert but you were kinda a pervert, let’s stop kidding here. And you were quite sure that his body was sculpted by the gods themselves. And his biceps were so big- ughh you wanted to be choked by them and let him end your misery. Was he really your soulmate? what did you do in your past life to deserve him? But then again, it doesn’t matter. He has a girlfriend and he’ll never like you. He’s way too out of your league and you’re aware of it. Nevertheless, it still didn’t stop the way your heart jumped when he told you, “You really wouldn’t mind right? I am your soulmate after all.” And then he smirked right after.

That beautifully annoying smirk of his,that you’ve now come to hate. And now you’re both sat on his bed, preparing for the inevitable. He breaks the awkwardness when he talks first,“Um…so can we do it now?” he asks. “Uh, yea.” you shyly replied. He leaned towards you, face inching closer, closer than ever and just when he was 1cm from your lips the door opened, astounding you both from the person who just got in.

“Chaeyoung? what are you doing here?” Jungkook asked the girl who just barged in. Chaeyoung? is she his girlfriend? “Baby, I wanted to see you. I realized just how much i missed you. But who’s she? are you cheating on me?” her tone suddenly raised when she realized how close the two of you were.

“No chae, you’ve got it wrong. This is Y/N. My soulmate. I’ve told you about her right?” Jungkook said. “Oh. yea. So are you done doing it yet?” she asked looking at you menacingly. “No we haven’t yet, because you barged in. Can you leave for a bit so we can have some privacy?” Jungkook replied.

“Me? leaving? no way kook. I just came here, and if she’s gonna kiss you then I might as well be here so there’s no funny business that’s gonna happen.”

“lmao, as if anything’s gonna happen.” you retorted mumbling a bit. “Excuse me, what did you say?” she asked you. “Oh, nothing.” you said with sarcasm hinting your voice. “Okay chae, why are you here again? we talked about this already. You agreed,” Jungkook said, confused.

“Yes, but… as I’ve said, I missed you Kook. And now I realized I can’t bear to see you kiss someone else. Can we just find another way?” she dramatically whined.

“Chae, it’s just gonna be a short kiss. It’s better and easier than doing a blood transfusion. You know I’m afraid of needles…” Jungkook reasoned. “But Kook! I really can’t handle letting you, my boyfriend- kiss someone else. Please…Just do the blood transfusion…” She then sobbed with her crocodile tears. Jungkook didn’t seem to notice it, or he at least pretended not to notice how fake her tears were. You did though.

“Fine. I’ll do it for you, because I want to save this-” Jungkook seemed to remember you were still in the room, and he looked towards you. Chaeyoung seemed to remember too, so she screamed in joy interrupting him from continuing what he was gonna say and chaeyoung hugged her boyfriend, thanking him a lot.

You went home after the drama that happened, though you didn’t know why you were a bit disappointed that you failed your mission? lmao, kissing jungkook was your mission? You should stop having stupid thoughts, it won’t do you any good. It won’t save your stone cold but still fragile heart. You thought about what Jungkook was almost gonna say, what did he mean by saving their… relationship? was it relationship that he was gonna say? could it be that they were having it rough? If they’re gonna break up then, that means you still have a chance. You smacked your head with your hand, now you were just being delusional. You shouldn’t wish for people to break up ughh, what was happening to you. You weren’t really like this.

This soulmate thing is just messing with your head. And he’s messing with your head. Your phone beeped and you opened it to see a message from Jungkook. He said if you were up to do the blood transfusion tomorrow, and you replied yes. Blood transfusion is another way to heal soulmates, though it’s draining. You and your soulmate’s blood is believed to have healing properties. made just for the both of you, if you gave it to another person it wouldn’t have any effect. It’d just be a normal blood transfusion.

You and Jungkook walked inside the soulmate hospital, you had made small talk on the way there. You encouraged and comforted him that it’ll be alright, that It’ll feel like just an ant biting you. He agreed with you but he still looked nervous. After a while, the doctor came and asked you both if you were ready to start the procedure and you both said yes, but jungkook said if he could talk to you for a bit, before you start with it. “Jungkook are you okay? What did you want to talk about?” You asked, concern etched in your face.

“Y/N…I’m still kinda nervous about this whole thing. It’s too embarrassing to say this but I got traumatized when I was a child. The nurse before accidentally injected me in the wrong place and the needle almost broke. What if it happens again?” He looked so scared, you felt really bad for him.“Jungkook I’m sorry that happened to you. If you don’t wanna do it right now, I understand and it’s okay with me. But i think the doctor that’s gonna assist us is great and I’m positive he won’t make a mistake like that. Let’s just have faith on the positive side.” You tried to assure him.

“And Jungkook, I’m here. I won’t let them make a mistake, even if they do, I’ll sue them for even just rubbing the wrong alcohol in your arm. So don’t worry to much, I’m here. Were in this together.” You said comforting him. He smiled a little at what you said, it seemed to have calmed down his nerves a little.“Fine, I’ll do it. But, you need to promise not to laugh at me if I scream okay?” you nodded and said yes.

After an hour the transfusion was done and you were now both heading home. or you were at least. “Jungkook I told you it wouldn’t be that bad.” you said. “Yeah…I guess I was just a big coward. But thanks anyway, for helping me and all. I can finally go back to practice and live my life like I used to.” Yeah, a life without me. Of course, just the way it is. “Thank you really Y/N. You don’t know how grateful I am for you. For finding you.” He stared at you for so long, you’re afraid you’d melt soon. “Eh, it’s no biggie. I am a good person after all. An angel if you must know,” You said with a teasing tone at the end.

“Of course you are. Thank you again my angel, for healing me. Though I would’ve preferred it more if you used the other method-” Jungkook stopped talking when his phone rang. It was his girlfriend chaeyoung you assumed. Since he looked quite disoriented. “Uh, Y/N it was chae. She said she’ll pick me up. Are you going home now? you could ride with us and I’ll drop you off to your place.” He offered.

“Nah, it’s okay. I’ll just take the bus or walk. It’s good exercise anyway.” You replied. You didn’t wanna third wheel with them. “Oh, are you sure? it’s the least I could do to repay you.” “Yeah, I’m sure. And you better not forget my lifetime supply of free banana sundaes and one favor that I could ask from you at any time.” You reminded him.

“Oh right. I almost forgot. And here I thought you were a real angel.” He joked. “Excuse me, of course I am. You’re just indebted to an angel that’s why you need to pay.” you retorted. The bus came and you decided to skip exercise for another day. “I’m just gonna ride the bus. Goodbye kook, hope I’ll never see you again except to give me my free sundaes.” You teased him. “Hey, I hope I never see you again too!” He taunted back.

And you rode the bus getting away from him, too scared that you might stare at him again, and never forget his face.

You didn’t know why your head wouldn’t stop pounding. Your nose wouldn’t stop sneezing, your throat felt like hell and you felt literally sick. Maybe you were sick. Ugh. What a bad timing to get the flu. You were feeling weak since the blood transfusion some days ago, and now you’re quite sure you’ve got the flu. Wth. The doctor did say though, there were side effects of resisting the natural way to heal soulmates. Urgh. You hated that you had to suffer like this. Stupid Jungkook and his stupid cute face. You were still scrolling thru his instagram, yas you gave each other your social media accs. You wanted to save money than buying load so it was easier. Fortunately had free wifi in your dorm, though it was unstable sometimes.

He posted something recently on his account, you noticed. It was Him in his soccer uniform, captioned with “I’m back y'all. I missed working hard during practice 👅 or noT-” He still looked good as ever. You think he dyed his hair blond? or was it just the tips? whatever. It was hidden in the cap he was wearing, lmao he looked like a baseball player more than a soccer one. Meanwhile he was looking like a God, you were here looking like you were dying. Just your casual look even worse. Also seeing his girlfriend’s comment just made your migraine worse. She said something about Jungkook being hot. Wew, wish everyone could have a boyfriend as hot as him. You said sarcastically in your thoughts.

You were too sick to go to class today, so you texted Charlie you wouldn’t be able to come because of your annoying flu. You also asked her to buy some paracetamol and decongestants. You were gonna sleep it off and hopefully, after a few days you’ll get better. You can’t afford to miss any class and you had a part time job as a tutor in your university that you should do.

When Charlie found out that you were still ill, and it’s been 5 days already, she made up a plan. You weren’t gonna like it, but maybe you’ll thank her someday. She had a knack that you would. So she texted the only person that knew how to help you. She texted Jungkook, your cute ass soulmate.

Jungkook was busy with practice and trying not to die from his girlfriend’s wrath. They were fighting again, that’s just what they do these days. And he was kinda sick of it, to be honest. If they weren’t fighting, she’s ignoring him. And if he ignores her back, she’ll just blame it on him for not communicating with her. He wasn’t even sure if he still liked her? He’s been contemplating his feelings for her for so long now. He was out of his reverie when he got a text from someone. It was Charlie? What would Charlie want with him? He read it and saw that it was bout Y/N. She was sick? Charlie told him that she got sick because of helping him, so he needs to help her too. Jungkook asked her how he could help, and charlie said, he just needed to be with her. To take care of her.

He was busy but finding out his soulmate was sick because of him, made him feel guilty and shitty too. So he agreed to Charlie’s plan. He’ll surprise her at her dorm. ‘Cause the girl may have hinted that y/n didn’t want to see him, so he’ll just have to surprise her.

When Jungkook arrived at your dorm, charlie accompanied him and told him where your room was. He was holding a fruit basket but there was also 2 boxes of ramen in it. lol. He even bought you a Peppa Pig stuffed toy, because Charlie said it’d cheer you up. Did you really like Peppa Pig? whatever. Charlie went home right away- after pushing Jungkook to knock on the door.

You were expecting Charlie when you opened the door, And you didn’t expect to see him instead. It didn’t help that he looked handsome and cute as ever too. He was in his casual polo shirt and skinny tight ripped jeans, and you couldn’t help but gawk at him for a few seconds. “What are you doing here Jungkook?” You asked. You were also reminded of your current physical state. You looked like trash.

“Uh… I came to see if you were okay. How are you doing?” He asked, “I’m fine Jungkook. You didn’t have to come here.” You didn’t mean to be rude, but you didn’t want him to see you like this. Ugly and sick. Or more like uglier, since you were already ugly to you. You were embarrassed to be seen by him like this you guessed. “You don’t look fine to me though? Are you sure?” He retorted.

“I’m sure kook, why ask if you knew already anyway?” you couldn’t hold back from being a bitch today. You still felt like shit and he just had to see it too. You just had to see him too. “I’m sorry then. Stop being a twat, I bought some ramen and fruits.” He said, holding them out to you. And you finally noticed the fruit basket he was holding. You also noticed something else. “Is that a Peppa pig plushie? Wtf.” You commented.

“Um, yea Charlie said you’d like it- I mean I thought you’d like it…” he said, caught in his lie but he still tried to save her. Though you knew better that he really planned this with your friend. traitors. You were gonna take your revenge after you’re healed.“Drop it Jungkook, I know charlie sent you here.” You said coldly, “Also, you shouldn’t have listened to her. I hate peppa pig. But thanks anyway.” You replied as you took the plushie and placed it somewhere.

“I also bought more of your meds, I’ll just put them here.” He said as he placed some paracetamol on your table. “I’ll cook some ramen now, You want some right?” He inquired. “Yeah, I guess.”

Jungkook and you ate your ramen in peace for the time being. After eating, he made sure you drank your meds, and you both cuddled in your bed to watch Shrek on your laptop. You didn’t wanna cuddle him but he insisted, even if you told him he might get sick too, and then you’ll both be sick. How will you take care of each other then? He just shrugged it off. It was like that for a few days, though you still felt nauseous. It was on the last day that you were sick that something happened. Something you didn’t expect, and should never have happened.

You were both watching twilight: breaking dawn part 1 where Bella looked like shit carrying Renesmee inside her, when he asked you something. “Y/N…” “What is it kook? you’re interrupting the movie.” “Are you feeling better?” he asked.

“Yea i guess. now shut up, let’s get back to watching the movie.” You told him. “But you still feel like shit right? maybe like bella except less worse. What if I suggest something?” He was looking at you, body turned to you but you were too dumb to notice. “I’m fine Kook, I’m giving you one last chance to shut the hell up.” You taunted him, He didn’t seem to be offended by it even just a little.

“What if I do the natural way to make you feel better?” He was asking you a weird question. What is he even suggesting? “What do you mean you idiot?” You said, still not paying too much attention on him. You were still trying to watch the damn movie, or at least pretending to do so. Even though his nice scenting cologne, and his attractiveness was really distracting.

“What if I did this-” He grabbed your face and sealed your lips with his. What the actual fuck. He’s kissing you. And you’re letting him. You’re letting him because you want to, of course. That’s the only thing not stopping him. You wanted him to kiss you too. Oh, you were feeling better already. Is this what a soulmate’s healing kiss feels like? it feels surreal. Like sparks flying and your soul ascending wtf.

You don’t even know how to kiss someone, but you kissed him back. His tongue asking permission to enter your mouth. And then, you were french kissing him. Wow, who knew your perverted ass could be a pro at this. He suddenly stopped kissing you, and you were afraid he regretted it. “I’ve been wanting to do that since we met you know? At least now, we’re even.” He’s so annoying. You really hate him a lot.

You couldn’t really speak, you were catching your breath too. You suddenly felt shy and hugged peppa pig kook instead, yeah. That’s what you named the plushie he gave you. Will he leave now? or will you make out forever? What does he mean by doing all of this? What about Chaeyoung? Ugh. Whatever, it doesn’t matter 'cause it feels like he’s yours right now. As he always should’ve been.

6 REASONS WHY YOU NEED TO WATCH SISYPHUS

So much to look forward to!

Sisyphus, one of the most highly anticipated dramas of 2021, is finally here! Incorporating fantasy and mystery elements, the story centers on genius engineer Han Tae-sul (Cho Seung-woo) uncovering dangerous secrets and Gang Seo-hae (Park Shin-hye) who comes from the future to save him. Check out some major reasons why you need to watch Sisyphus below.

1. Top-Notch Cast

Main leads Cho Seung-woo and Park Shin-hye are famous for having many successful shows and movies under their belts. Being highly sought after, their casting was much talked about and eagerly awaited. Director Jin Hyuk shared, “While discussing the casting with the writers, we decided that if we couldn’t get either Cho Seung-woo or Park Shin-hye, we would just work on a different drama.” Thankfully, casting worked out perfectly and there are many other actors to look forward to including Sung Dong-il, Tae In-ho, Chae Jong-hyeop, and more.

2. Star Director

Director Jin Hyuk is known for having worked on many popular titles including The Legend of the Blue Sea, Doctor Stranger, and The Master's Sun. Just as the director was excited about working with Cho Seung-woo and Park Shin-hye, the feeling was very mutual. Park Shin-hye said, “I’ve always been curious about and wanted to work with director Jin Hyuk. I actually met him when I was younger and I’m so happy to have been able to work with him this time.” Cho Seung-woo further complimented Jin Hyuk and divulged, “The director is very considerate of actors. He will consider any ideas that actors propose.”

3. Unique Story

Sisyphus shows a world where the present and the future coexist. The future Korea is in ruins in 2035. Viewers can see the difference between the present that Han Tae-sul lives in and the devastating future that Gang Seo-hae comes from. In their midst, there are individuals who hide their identities and have ulterior motives. The director and writing duo Lee Jane and Jeon Chan-ho actually began planning for Sisyphus 4 years ago. With much research and imagination blended into a tight plot, Sisyphus will be unlike any drama you have watched thus far.

4. Kickass Action

Park Shin-hye’s character Gang Seo-hae is a bold survivor who is able to adapt quickly and think on her feet. She risks her life to save Han Tae-sul from danger as they try to save the world. You’ll be able to see a lot of satisfying action scenes featuring Park Shin-hye as she fights off their opponents. The actress started working with the action team about a month and a half before filming started and actually filmed for two more months than Cho Seung-woo. Furthermore, Cho Seung-woo complimented Park Shin-hye’s powerful kicks and punches describing her as “incredible.”

5. Amazing Set

Having to simultaneously portray a present Korea and a future Korea that resembles a wasteland, a lot of fine details can be found in the sets featuring the future Korea. Director Jin Hyuk explained, “We show the future, but the future isn’t glamorous. We put in a lot of effort to make the future look realistic and consulted many different experts and researched a lot of different things.” Park Shin-hye further shared, “A set that resembles Myeongdong was created, and it felt so realistic and like I was walking through the real Myeongdong. Viewers will be able to recognize some familiar shops in Myeongdong.”

6. Fun Easter Eggs + Mystery

Previously, a teaser featuring Park Shin-hye’s character coming across a BTS poster and listening to BTS’s “Spring Day” gained a lot of buzz. The director explained, “Seo-hae lives in a future that is in ruins with people killing each other and struggling to survive. So I thought about what would be a source of comfort for her, and I thought that music would be a good fit.” He also shared that “Spring Day” is his personal favorite and there will be more instances where you can see BTS items since Seo-hae is a fan. In addition to BTS related Easter eggs, there is the mystery behind the villain named Sigma. The actor’s identity has been kept under wraps, so you’ll have to tune in to find out who the actor is.

There are so many more reasons to look forward to Sisyphus and its action and mystery packed story. Watch Sisyphus when it premieres tonight on February 17 at 9:30PM MYT with new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday available an hour and thirty minutes after the Korean broadcast, only on Netflix!

Moon Chae-Rin is a South Korean girl who has developed Hypersomnia. She has been obsessed with learning about the 7 sins ever since she learned what they are. When 7 boys transfer to her school, her world starts to turn around. Piece by piece, she's trying to figure out why these boys are changing everything. When she finally figures out who they are, she tries her best to figure out how to stop what's happening. If she knew that to rid them of their sins you have to teach them to do the opposite, would everything go back to normal? Or would everything go completely upsidedown?

Mates are to be assigned at 20 moons old. A lot of the clan is against same sex mates and this makes it harder for Honeywillow. Honeywillow is 19 moons old and she has already found herself the perfect mate. It's already bad enough that same sex mates and cross clan mates are bad, but she'll be turning 20 moons the following day of the time in the story. The mate she gets is really sweet and it makes it harder for her to tell him about it. She spends every night with her secret mate, but is eventually caught by the pro lgbtq+ deputy. The deputy is fine with this.

K-Pop Goes Global with Spotify

🎧 Over 6.6 billion K-Pop tracks streamed since 2015

🎧 Malaysia ranks 8th globally in the number of K-Pop Streams on Spotify

The Asian genre sensation K-Pop has seen its global popularity rocket since the launch of Spotify’s Korean pop genre hub two years ago.

Since the hub’s launch in 2015, more than 6.6 billion K-Pop tracks have been streamed globally on the music service, with users spending over 14.4 billion minutes listening to their favourite Korean tracks. Malaysia comes out as the 8th country in the world and 4th in Asia with the most number of K-Pop streams on Spotify.

Spotify’s K-Pop Hub

The K-Pop hub*, which includes everything from the latest K-Pop tracks to Korean OSTs, was initially introduced in Asia (The Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong) as a result of the genre’s popularity across the region. The launch further drove the number of streams and sharing of Korean music, leading to breakthrough hits including Puss by AOA Jimin, It G Ma by Keith Ape, Hello Bitches by CL and I by Taeyeon.

The hub was then rolled out to the United States and Canada in September 2015, followed by Brazil, Mexico and the rest of Latin America in January 2016. Australia & New Zealand were added the following March, with France, Denmark, United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden and Turkey in 2017.

K-Pop Hub in numbers:

The number of streams of K-Pop tracks have grown by 63% year on year.

The K-Pop Hub currently has over 4.8 million followers.

The top streamed Spotify owned and operated K-Pop playlists within the hub include K-Pop Daebak, Korean OSTs, and K-Party Dance Mix.

K-Pop’s Growth

First brought to the world’s attention by PSY’s 2012 global smash Gangnam Style, K-Pop is now evolving into a diverse and popular subculture globally. Driven by social media fan fever and Korean TV dramas* the Korean Wave is now breaking through to the USA, Latin America, Europe and other parts of the world.

In order to capitalize on their rising global popularity, many K-Pop artists now record songs in multiple languages to gain wider recognition. Certain bands have even formed sub-units to target different audiences. For example, super group EXO (represented by SM Entertainment) perform songs targeted to both Korean and Mandarin speaking audiences. Similarly, NCT has three sub units: NCT U, NCT 127 and NCT Dream. Each sub unit is focused to performing and reaching out to different age groups and demographics.

After the world’s brief infatuation with PSY, the genre has rarely broken into the top of the global music charts until now; just this September for the first time, K-Pop debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart with BTS’ 'Love Yourself: Her', in a move which many suggest will see K-Pop cross over into the global mainstream.

"We believe music is truly universal and transcends cultures,” says Elly Chae, Director of Communications for BigHit Entertainment. “BTS has been trying to prove it since their debut in 2013, and international music platforms such as Spotify have helped the band expand their horizon to meet new audiences beyond Korea and K-pop. We hope Spotify continues playing a pivotal role in helping more K-Pop artists break into the mainstream in the US and other countries in the coming years.”

“It is our aim to be a platform of discovery for both artists and music lovers,” adds Eve Tan, Shows & Editorial, Team Lead, Spotify Asia. “And since the launch of the K-Pop hub, we’ve seen more fan-created playlists and My Music streams around this genre. This indicates that more playlists are being saved, and users are coming back with increased repeat listening patterns.”

Tan adds: “K-Pop or the Hallyu wave is truly an Asian success story. For a genre that’s in a different language and from a very different culture, it is truly inspiring to see how K-Pop is making its mark on the global stage. Allowing Spotify fans across the world to enjoy and be inspired by Korean music, is something that we are excited about.”

The K-Pop Experience All Around The World

Based on Spotify’s internal data, each country show different consumption patterns when it comes to streaming Korean music.

Spotify users in Mexico tend to hit play for songs by Korean boybands; while, listeners in Brazil enjoy streaming K-Pop party tracks. In Singapore, many turn to Korean original soundtracks (OST) just as often as they watch Korean dramas. In Malaysia, Korean music are commonly streamed between 3pm - 6pm.
