September 2018: BMW USA sales increased 1.3 percent

Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 1.3 percent in September 2018 for a total of 25,908, compared to 25,571 vehicles sold in September 2017. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is up 2.2 percent on sales of 225,065 vehicles compared to 220,175 sold in the first three quarters of 2017.

“This is the 11th straight month of growth for BMW sales in the U.S. and we expect it to continue especially with the arrival of several new models in the months ahead,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The X3 had an extraordinary September, its best month ever, and next month, in November, the all-new X5 goes on sale in the U.S. giving BMW once again a very strong X model line-up.”

BMW’s lineup of Sports Activity Vehicles accounted for 52 percent of BMW brand sales in September 2018. For the sixth consecutive month, the BMW X3 was the top-selling BMW model in the U.S.

BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales BMW brand sales of electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles totaled 1,858 in September 2018, an increase of 4.3 percent from the 1,781 sold in the same month a year ago. In total, BMW Group (BMW and MINI) electrified vehicles accounted for 6.7 percent of U.S. sales in September 2018.

BMW Group currently offers seven electrified models in the U.S., including the BMW i3, BMW i8, BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW 740e, BMW X5 xDrive 40e and MINI Countryman plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle.

MINI Brand Sales For September, MINI USA reported 3,461 vehicles sold, a decrease of 7.4 percent from the 3,736 sold in the same month a year ago. MINI sales in September were led by the MINI Countryman, with 1,411 units – a 1.5 percent increase compared September 2017. Year to date, MINI brand sales are down 1.7 percent.

BMW Group Sales Sales of BMW Group vehicles (BMW and MINI brands combined) in the U.S. increased 0.2 percent in September 2018 for a total of 29,369 vehicles, compared with 29,307 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date BMW Group sales in the U.S. are up 1.7 percent from the first nine months of 2017.

BMW Certified Pre-Owned sold 9,857 vehicles, a decrease of 7 percent from September 2017.

Total BMW Pre-Owned sold 20,220 vehicles, an increase of 2.7 percent from September 2017.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles

MINI Certified Pre-Owned sold 1,193 vehicles in September, an increase of 40.9 percent from September 2017.

Total MINI Pre-Owned sold 2,773 vehicles in September, an increase of 13.7 percent from September 2017.

Elektrikli pazarı hızlı yükseliyor

Alman otomobil üreticisi BMW Grubu, 2018’in ilk dört ayında, elektrikli ve hibrit otomobil satışlarının, geçen yılın aynı dönemine kıyasla yüzde 41.7 artışla 36.692 adete ulaştığını açıkladı.

Özellikle Avrupa pazarında dizel otomobil satışlarının düşmesi ve emisyon konusunda yapılan düzenlemelerle otomobil üreticileri elektrikli ve şarj edilebilir hibrit otomobil üretimindeki hamlelerini hızlandırmışlardı. Markanın küresel pazarlardaki yükselişi, ABD’de yüzde 73,3, İngiltere’de yüzde 25,6 ve Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti’nde yüzde 646,7 oranında gerçekleşti.

Marka, İngiltere’de grup otomobillerinin satışlarının yüzde 9’unu elektrikli modellere dönüştürmeyi başardı. Amerika’da bu oran yüzde 7,3 oranında gerçekleşirken, elektrikli ulaşımı devlet politikaları ile destekleyen İskandinav pazarında ise toplam satışların dörtte biri elektrikli modellerden gerçekleşti. Çin’deki büyük artış ise pazara yeni sürülen ve yerelde üretilen 5 Serisi plug-in (şarj edilebilir-fişli) Hybrid modelinin başarısından kaynaklanıyor. Dikkat çeken bir detay olarak Malezya’da Nisan’da satılan grup otomobillerinin yarısından fazlasını ise elektrikli modeller oluşturdu.

Markanın özellikle 5 serisinin ‘plug-in hybrid’ modeli ve X5’in yakıt tüketim ve emisyon değerlerinin, bu modellerin farklı pazarlarda tercih edilmesini sağladığı görülüyor. Şirketin, BMW markasının satış ve markadan sorumlu Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Pieter Nota, “BMW i, BMW iPerformance ve MINI Electric araçlarının kombine satışlarının Nisan’da yüzde 52 artarak 9.831 adete ulaştığını da açıkladı. Nota, bu yıl 140 binden fazla elektrikli araç satma hedefleri olduğunun da altını çizdi.

BMW Grup, küresel pazarda 5 Serisi, MINI Cooper SE Countryman plug-in hibrit, i3, i8, 225xe iPerformance, 330e iPerformance, X5 40e iPerformance ve 740e - 740Le iPerformance ile portföyündeki dokuz elektrikli araçla yer alıyor. Markanın ayrıca, yalnızca Çin'de satılan X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance modeli de bulunuyor.

Kablosuz şarj Temmuz’da kullanıma sunulacak

Alman üretici geçen günlerde yaptığı açıklamada, elektrikli araçlarının kablosuz olarak şarj edilmesini sağlayan bir sistem geliştirdiklerini de açıkladı. Endüktif şarj sistemi adı verilen kablosuz şarj teknolojisi ile mavi çizgilerle belirlenmiş şarj yatağının üzerine park edilen araç 3,5 saat içerisinde tamamen şarj oluyor. İlk olarak 530e ‘plug-in hybrid’ modelinde kullanılacak teknolojinin yakın gelecekte markanın diğer modellerinde de kullanılacağı belirtiliyor.

Söz konusu teknoloji; endüktif akım, yani elektriğin kablosuz aktarımı esasına dayanıyor. Şarj yatağına entegre edilmiş birincil (primer) bobinin, otomobilin altına uygulanmış ikincil (sekonder) bobin ile karşılaşması ile alternatif manyetik alan oluşuyor ve 3.2 kW enerji transferi ile şarj işlemi başlıyor.

Geliştirilen teknoloji, sürücünün aracın bilgi ekranı ve bir mobil uygulama ile aracın şarj durumu hakkında bilgi sahibi olmasını da sağlıyor. Bir evcil hayvanın araçla şarj yatağı arasına girmesi durumunda da mobil uygulama aracılığıyla sürücüye uyarı gönderiyor. BMW’den yapılan açıklamada, bu teknolojinin çevreye yaydığı radyasyonun ev elektroniklerinden fazla olmadığı da vurgulandı.

BMW USA sales decreased 7.7 percent in August

Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 7.7 percent in August for a total of 23,553 compared to 25,531 vehicles sold in August 2016. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is down 5 percent in the U.S. on sales of 194,604 vehicles compared to 204,744 sold in the first eight months of 2016.

Notable vehicle sales in August include the BMW 4 Series and BMW 5 Series, which both showed strong gains for the second straight month, and the BMW X1. The BMW 4 Series increased 49.3 percent to 3,412 vehicles, while the BMW 5 Series which increased 37.6 percent to 3,587 vehicles. The BMW X1 increased 39 percent to 2,002 vehicles.

“Even as we are reporting the August sales, our thoughts are with those in the devastated areas of Texas and Louisiana, especially our many employees and colleagues. We are making significant contributions to the American Red Cross to relieve as much of the suffering as possible,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “August numbers were a bit unusual in that sedans outpaced our SAV’s as model year change over for the X5 and new model production of the X3 significantly restricted availability of our especially popular SAV models. This of course will improve as production ramps up.”

MINI Brand Sales For August, MINI USA reported 4,448 vehicles sold, a decrease of 10.5 percent from the 4,969 sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA reported a total of 31,051 vehicles sold, a decrease of 11.0 percent from 34,887 vehicles sold in the first eight months of 2016.

BMW Group Sales In total, the BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported August sales of 28,001 vehicles, a decrease of 8.2 percent from the 30,500 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW Group sales are down 5.8 percent on sales of 225,655 vehicles in the first eight months of 2017 compared to 239,631 in the same period in 2016.

BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales Sales of BMW Group electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles increased 9.2 percent to 11,672 through August 2017, accounting for 5.2 percent of total BMW brand sales in the U.S. Currently, BMW offers six electrified vehicle models in the U.S., including the BMW i3 and BMW i8, as well as the BMW i Performance models: BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW 740e and the BMW X5 xDrive 40e.
