Today! Right now!

 When you are going through your day and the same, or very close to messages, come across your path that you are really in the midst of practicing, are they a coincidence?  I believe that when you through a thought out there, whether positive or negative, we have the ability to make it come true.  There is a great quote from Rich Roll that I review each day:

 “Pursue what is in your heart and the universe will conspire to support it.”

 So many of us go through life thinking the world is out to get us……..lol – think about the time we are living in today?  However, there are those that think the world is like the quote above, conspiring with us to make great things happen.  I am still trying to figure this concept out but have experienced it from both sides of the fence.  I can put something out there and not have faith it will come to fruition – it doesn’t.  But, I have thrown a ton of stuff out there that I truly wanted to experience and they’ve happened.  

 Footnote here – YOU HAVE TO WORK YOUR ASS OFF!  Saying, “I want this beautiful partner to come into my life” and then sitting on your couch swiping right all day ain’t gonna make it happen.  Finding the vision is a great first step and is incredibly difficult sometimes.  Being brave and sharing that vision with the world takes massive courage.  The next part, where many of us fall short, is taking action and starting it.  

 Okay, sort of went off the rails there for a moment, back to today’s entry.  Last night I watched a YouTube video called Transamericana (thanks Bryan Shane for the share!). It is the story of Ricky Gates running across the US.  The reasons are not as you would anticipate but let’s just say he wanted to understand other people’s perspective on America, specifically those that didn’t think like him.

 There were several parts that were very moving, not to mention this dude ran about 3700 miles, carrying a 12-15 lbs pack with pretty much his life in it over the course of several months - - AMAZING!!  Obviously, there was a connection because of the ultrarunning aspect but his purpose behind the journey was unique.  What he learned, or should I say, what he gained was even more fascinating.

 Last week, I think it was last week 😊, I shared the book that I was reading by Jay Shetty – Think Like a Monk.  There were a few nuggets I wanted to give the group here that I thought were useful, at least for me, so I passed them on.  I am still reading it and a couple days ago I came across another nugget.

 “Seek the love and the beauty in what you have today.”

 I think the example he used here was, you can’t love the Porsche that you want if you don’t love the Chevy that you have now.  This spoke loudly to me because I have been trying hard to practice contentment; not necessarily with respect to things, but more specifically with where I am on the journey and……. who I am right now?  I heard on a podcast today that, “we have a lot of excuses that can certainly be justified in today’s circumstances.” Lots of truth to that right!  However, what do we have today?  Don’t think about the bullshit and the nonsense.  Really, truly think about the love and beauty you/we have right now. Real simple here are 5 from my gratitude journal this morning.

1.       “I am grateful for my talks with Robin.

2.       “I am grateful for the tools and resources that I attract.”

3.       “I am grateful for my family’s health, safety, and wellbeing.”

4.       “I am grateful for the clarity, awareness, and progress.”

5.       “I am grateful to continue to practice and get better.”

 Some days it as simple as, clean water, food on the table, to be employed, to have Robin, the girl’s health; that some random stranger smiled at me.  How can we love and appreciate something that may not even exist when we can’t love and appreciate where and who we are today?  I struggle with this because there are moments that I don’t feel like I love myself.  I am crucially hard on myself & being content, sitting in that moment, is hard. “Do more, be more, work harder, no rest!!!” And, when I do rest, I can beat myself up for that too……” not working hard enough.”  It can be vicious.  A couple weeks ago I made a point to work on this.  Well, work on knowing, believing, and feeling that I am exactly where I am supposed to be and who I am supposed to be……Right Now!  I think that is being content.  Doesn’t mean that you are not working to improve; you are content at this very moment! That is what is so hard for me because I am constantly competing to be a better version of myself.  As I continue that race, I forget about who I am now and more importantly, where I have come from.  Said this before but if you told me a decade ago, “hey Mike, this is who you will be and where you will be in 10 years,”  - I’d be pretty damn content & happy with that.  So how come I struggle with being right there?  That is the ultimate thing I am working to figure out. Making progress though.

 There are so many distractions in our daily lives and yeah, we are at fault for consuming them; being impacted by them.  I find that when I shut down and can be, my awareness and perspective get better – I feel like I am not clouded with so many things pulling at my mind.  This leads me to my closing point, yesterday afternoon I wrapped up things around 4pm and I had a note staring at me to watch Transamericana before taking Alaina to soccer practice.  I wanted to make sure I had a clean plate and nothing distracting me.  So, I sat down and watched it, with a clear mind.

 I really appreciate that I was able to do that because the biggest message I received was what I think was great perspective from Mr. Gates:

 “Be content being the person you are. Be good with who I am, where I am, when I am, and whom I am with.” – Ricky Gates

Happy New Year, everyone! 

I know 2020 and 2021 have been chaotic, to say the very least... but there are some lovely people who have improved my life while I’ve been at my lowest, and I want to give them a shout out. Obvi, I’m talking about my beloved mutuals on this stupid lil site that I love. 

Some of the folks listed below are silent pals who have simply made my dashboard a better place... others have become some of my most cherished friends. Regardless, ALL of them have made the last year (in some cases, the last two or even three years) better. I just want to extend my thanks to each and every one of you... and hope that 2022 is a new chapter in all of our lives. 

To my discord darlings, especially — You know exactly who you are, but I want to give ya’ll a special shout out. Frankly, I don’t know what my year would’ve looked like without you and our special little spaces. Thank you for bringing joy into my life.
