in the essay tags from earlier i mentioned how midori is currently (or was i guess) under intense scrutiny from shin following the reveal that yeah he was one of the people involved with organizing the death game and thus he's heavily disadvantaged from being understood (as of now at least- a lot of complexities of Ranger's situation only got revealed after he was shot), but it's important to recognize that he was also doing it to himself. I'm not sure if I want to repeat everything I've already said about it on twitter but you know. Man raised under an ideology of strength in solitude and acknowledgement in usefulness finds joy in building genuine friendships with the only people he believed he could stand on equal grounds with. Same man upon being forcibly removed from that due to circumstances beyond his control only finds solace in the constant of the ideology he's been raised with. Same man is still desperately yearning for that normal life and using the image of the friend whose personality didn't drastically shift during the turbulence of his entire life being shattered (which he's still feeling the effects of now) to achieve that.
