Do you think Mike knew Will was really talking about himself in the van as he was speaking?

the duffer brothers have lied a million and two times, but i need at least three years to recover from that scene if my post-rain fight recovery is anything to go off of, so... rather than drive myself crazy trying to Understand, i'm just going based off of what they've said, which is...

ROSS: "While Mike may not fully pick up on it, his brother does because he’s got that brotherly bond."

MATT: "Mike just doesn’t understand, and not in a bad way. He misses it. He doesn’t get it, and I think when Will is crying it’s because he has all these feelings and Mike doesn’t understand and he can’t find a way to express them in a way that Mike can understand."

editing to add: i don't think he understands, but that doesn't mean i think he's 100% clueless. finn's acting, to me, says otherwise—his face fell way too many times whenever will said "el" for example, and he would look down at the painting with a pinched expression. i think he may not get it, but he also... wants to believe it. so he's not going to question it until el's cold shoulder gets to be too much or she unknowingly brings it all down. i really don't think he knows or is close to it.
