These are another set of absolute STAPLES on my island designed by Vee of Nuvema. Their creator code is MA-5116-9644-5826.

I completely adore how natural and well designed the stone designs are! These are my favourite stepping stones and a design i have all over my island. They work perfectly on any island, regardless of theme (or lack of!!) I really appreciate the variation in the stone designs as well, from the stone paths to the stepping stones, even to the large circle! I think it was really a great idea to make a version of these stones in a terracotta colouring. This is a really versatile creation that players like me will love!

Moving on from the stone designs, Vee has also created a number of plaid designs, these can be used by themselves as cushions etc or can be used alongside the creative idea of the blanket edge design. I think the idea to develop a blanket edge design was incredibly clever, it means that players are able to use their own designs, should they wish, and download the tassels to create a number of different picnic blankets - this is a really good idea given the limited amount of design slots allowed in the game (😔)

Vee has also created some really cute outfit designs. My favourite are the dresses, they’re definitely something i could see my character wearing!

WIRED resilience residence era announced earlier this year provide non-journalists with the opportunity to report on how technology and science are transforming their own industries. More than 200 people responded to our call for proposals, representing 30 different states and dozens of fields.

Today we are pleased to present our five residents for 2021. Over the next six months, they will be working with the WIRED editorial team to tell powerful stories with a privileged perspective and start new conversations about the future. Our goal is for everyone (residents, WIRED employees and our audience) to benefit from the exchange of expertise, perspectives and experiences.

Meet the residents

Melanie Canals is a first-generation American Peruvian farmer and beekeeper based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, in the lands of Monacan and Mannahoac. His work focuses on creating healthy relationships between people and their surrounding ecosystem through soil regeneration and food sovereignty. As a resident, she is interested in stories about land stewardship and the ways in which communities have begun to decolonize agriculture to make it more accessible and sustainable.

Jake Galdo, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, BCGP, is a community pharmacist with experience in academia, health care quality and technology. His residency focuses on the transformation of community pharmacy practice and patient empowerment. Galdo is an alumnus of the University of Georgia and the University of Samford and resides in Alabama with his family.

Harris Quinn is the founder of the men’s clothing brand H. Goose. His residency will focus on changing the garment industry and the evolution of our way of dressing. He previously founded a digital marketing startup and spent six years active as a U.S. Navy cryptology linguist. He lives in Greenville, South Carolina.

Enrique Sanabria is a senior airport engineer for the New York and New Jersey Port Authority. His curiosity about technology became a passion for aviation and he has spent much of his life at and around Metro-New York airports, both as an amateur and as a technical specialist. Your residence will explore the airport of the future.

Suhita Shirodkar is an urban cartoonist, illustrator, and educator based in San Jose, California. He has received grants from the Knight Foundation and the Belle Foundation. Suhita will use visual reporting to see how grassroots artistic communities use technology to adapt, innovate, and reinvent themselves.

With many residents working from home and children out of school, the city of Oakland, California, is closing off 74 miles of its streets to passing cars, making it easier for residents to run, bike, or play.

Oakland’s “slow streets” initiative, announced on April 9 by Mayor Libby Schaaf, sets aside up to 10 percent of the city’s streets for recreation. Starting last weekend with four specific intersections, affected streets will be closed to thru-traffic. A list of street closures was published by Oakland’s department of transportation.

“Because of the reduction in car traffic, we will be closing off a number of streets so that bicyclists and pedestrians can spread out and take in fresh air safely on Oakland streets, free of cars,” Schaaf said.

Like many Californians, Bay Area residents have flooded parks and local beaches since a shelter-in-place order took effect in mid-March, prompting officials to close parks to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

City officials hoped the slow streets initiative — which they are calling an emergency measure — would give residents a safe way to get outdoors for Easter weekend while area parks were restricted, but Schaaf cautioned residents that the initiative does not mean public health guidance should be ignored.

“Social distancing is the only vaccine we have to fight this deadly virus,” Schaaf said.

The news was met with resounding applause from local transportation advocates.

Schaaf asked motorists to adhere to the restrictions and be extra mindful of children on the streets, reminding residents streets will still be open to local traffic. But Schaaf stopped short of enlisting police to enforce the restrictions.

“We will not be giving out, at this time, citations,” said the mayor, adding that people have enough to worry about amid a pandemic.

Roughly 11 percent of the city’s land is made up of 6,000 acres of parks — streets and sidewalks make up an additional 20 percent to 30 percent, said a city official, adding that the city wanted to take advantage of its space for the sunny holiday weekend.

The news was especially welcome in East Oakland, a neighborhood historically overlooked and impoverished, residents said at a press conference about the initiative on April 10. Many East Oakland residents continue to work, despite the shelter-in-place orders, said one community advocate, often walking to their jobs to do so. Any effort to make streets safer is good news for the community, he said.

“Some of us have to survive and we survive by working,” he said at the press conference. “Living in East Oakland, every day is an emergency.”
