Can I trust you with my life?

There are many people in need of insurance in America. The hard part is finding the right one. Reaching families or individuals is essential. Then, there come the non-profit organizations to help and have the ability to reach them through social media, where the majority are located. The best communication factor is social media. This organization and many others can gain followers and keep people up-to-date with what is happening and what can affect their health. There is so much information that people worldwide don't know about that can be causing them health issues.
The purpose and vision of Blue Cross Blue Sheil are to provide healthcare allowing members to join and live a life of worry-free and free of fear. Most of all, this organization strives for affordable healthcare. Each social media they obtain demonstrates the care they provide, the benefits provided, and the help they include. Sometimes they contact communities in person to let them know more about their services. This non-profit provides health insurance and other services that help maintain a person's health. An article focuses on letting people know there are solutions for affordability in American health. One main topic many people are worried about. "Real affordability solutions must address the root causes of rising prices, including anti-competitive practices and misaligned incentives across the system." Some crucial factors exist that a non-profit like Blue Cross Blue Shield has its platforms. Social media is first about communication and how that communication is driven and shown to people. It is critical to how BCBSRI communicates to future new members the services they provide to keep them in a healthy state. About half of the world's population uses social media, according to "Leea Sarvela" explaining "Why Healthcare Organizations Should Be on Social Media." A simple reel relatable to our health can be shared like a chain reaction and reach millions in seconds.
Regarding Blue Cross Blue Shield Rhode Island's social media, it fluctuates on how many people follow and like their page. As a result, their platforms vary, and they need more traction like other non-profit organizations.
I chose to analyze BCBSRI Facebook first because I follow them and am familiar with the platform. I can see the Facebook content they provide. For example, they have posted about "Supporting Children And Mental Health." The video shows employees through Zoom talking about ways to build emotional literacy. From how many followers it should expect, more likes, shares, and comments. Even though each post is engaging and has a clear message, the media created shows a shortfall because there are few showing action and support on the page.
To fix the problem, some ideas that can be helpful to increase the basic metrics are posting real people, actual members, talking about their experience as a member, and then mentioning or tagging people that can relate to the post. Hashtags can also help reach more people; the post will be visible everywhere. For advanced metrics, they follow important organizations already but do not follow influencers that increase that can also help get the visibility they need. The more I see their content, it is all about stating facts or reminding the audience of their mission as a non-profit organization and how they're helping many. Yes, that is important, but we need more than information. We need to see real people to trust and know we can afford it too. How can we trust a company if we can't see everyday people to relate with?
This non-profit organization hosts many events and does volunteer work for the community. It is a positive way to show a behavior metric involving and engaging shows that they care for people. In addition, it brings them to have a deeper level with the customer. An article states, " it is crucial to gain a deeper understanding of user behavior and needs" because it's not only about the product you are selling to the customer but how they act upon it; it can mean you're doing a good job. It looks like on Facebook the recent event was posted in 2021, but there are many more shown on the other platforms more recent. It shows in this social media that they still need to stay on top and update things. BCBSRI has lost the possibility because they must keep posting up-to-date on events. Making these vents and posting them to the people helps them people realize that what they do is for them and that it is worth applying for their services.
The next platform is Instagram, which has many videos and posts more of an interactive atmosphere than Facebook. BCBSRI has 901 posts and 1,889 followers. It obtains a variety of videos and different posts about what is happening. All post have a variety of layout and design that catches attention. Although in reels, they don't have a lot of an engagement rate. The most reel has 71 likes. The reel is about "take5foryou," an important topic that many can relate to and is heard. This account looks more updated than Facebook. There needs to be more engagement rate on Instagram, even though the behavioral metric is excellent, where the posts are engaging, and many people participate in events. Instagram's layout they created is focused on families where it is relatable, showing ways to stay healthy and giving great advice and tips real life needs to hear.
I suggest getting better at tags and mentioning people in the advanced metrics. For example, BCBS of California has 7,063 followers. Not only do they have this many followers, but they also have yummy recipes and a variety of posts for families and pets. The real for giving advice and taking a 5-minute break is a good idea; it shows that the company cares for the wellness of the people. I see other women doing the same reel to support this non-profit organization. After analyzing the channel metric, it needed progress and more work. Regarding tags and revenue from followers and new followers, exploring different strategies to motivate the audience is crucial because it is about staying healthy and continuing to do it long-term.
To finish, non-profit organizations with social media have opened doors to grow and establish a foundation. People can get to know them through social media and what they have to provide all benefits and affordability. According to "Forbes" states many platforms and tools that benefit social media marketing for non-profit organizations. From the many tools this organization is empaired to use if they want more revenue and engagement rate. And maybe Rhode Islanders can start trusting and believing there is a company like Blue Cross Blue Shield that cares.

New Advances in Treatment of Depression
According to Dr. Anuranjan Bist, Senior Psychiatrist at the Mind Brain Institute, despite being the second-most prescribed drug, to more than 30 million Americans, antidepressants don't work for nearly a third of those who try them. Annually, more than 40,000 Americans commit suicide, about half of whom suffered from major depression and those numbers are rising at an alarming rate. Suicide is now at the highest level in three decades, with increases in nearly every age category. Emory neurologist Charles Epstein helped refine a novel therapy transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to become an FDA-approved treatment for depression.
TMS uses magnetic pulses, similar to those used in MRI technology, to stimulate parts of the brain that are underactive in patients with depression. Patients are alert throughout the treatment, which is conducted in a physician's once. Treatment takes about 10 minutes per session, with 5 sessions performed each week for 4-6 weeks. Patients can resume normal activities immediately after each treatment.
In one of the first studies to look at transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in real-world clinical practice settings, researchers at Butler Hospital, along with colleagues across the U.S., confirmed that TMS is an effective treatment for patients with depression who are unable to find symptom relief through antidepressant medications. The study findings are published online in the June 11, 2012 edition of Depression and Anxiety in the Wiley Online Library.
Previous analysis of the efficacy of TMS has been provided through more than 30 published trials, yielding generally consistent results supporting the use of TMS to treat depression when medications aren't sufficient. "Those previous studies were key in laying the groundwork for the FDA to approve the first device for delivery of TMS as a treatment for depression in 2008," said Linda Carpenter, MD, lead author of the report and chief of the Mood Disorders Program and the Neuromodulation Clinic at Butler Hospital. "Naturalistic studies like ours, which provide scrutiny of real-life patient outcomes when TMS therapy is given in actual clinical practice settings, are the next step in further understanding the effectiveness of TMS. They are also important for informing healthcare policy, particularly in an era when difficult decisions must be made about allocation of scarce resources."
Carpenter explains that naturalistic studies differ from controlled clinical trials because they permit the inclusion of subjects with a wider range of symptomatology and comorbidity, whereas controlled clinical trials typically have more rigid criteria for inclusion. "As a multisite study collecting naturalistic outcomes from patients in clinics in various regions in the U.S., we were also able to capture effects that might arise from introducing a novel psychiatric treatment modality like TMS in non-research settings," said Carpenter. In all, the study confirms how well TMS works in diverse settings where TMS is administered to a real-life population of patients with depression that have not found relief through many other available treatments.
The published report summarized data collected from 42 clinical TMS practice sites in the US, and included outcomes from 307 patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) who had persistent symptoms despite the use of antidepressant medication. Change during TMS was assessed using both clinicians' ratings of overall depression severity and scores on patient self-report depression scales, which require the patient to rate the severity of each symptom on the same standardized scale at the end of each 2-week period. Rates for "response and remission to TMS were calculated based on the same cut-off scores and conventions used for other clinical trials of antidepressant treatments. Fifty-eight percent positive response rate to TMS and 37 percent remission rate were observed.
"The patient outcomes we found in this study demonstrated a response rate similar to controlled clinical trial populations," said Dr. Carpenter, explaining that this new data validates TMS efficacy in treating depression for those who have failed to benefit from antidepressant medications. "Continued research and confirmation of the effectiveness of TMS is important for understanding its place in everyday psychiatric care and to support advocacy for insurance coverage of the treatment." Thanks in part to the advocacy efforts of Dr. Carpenter, TMS was recently approved for coverage by Medicare in New England, and it is also now covered by BCBSRI. "Next steps for TMS research involve enhancing our understanding of how to maintain positive response to TMS over time after the course of therapy ends and learning how to customize the treatment for patients using newer technologies, so TMS can help even more patients."

Beginning in 2017, BCBSRI members will have access to the global online solution to encourage, improve and sustain healthy habits.

Introducing 2024 RIIL Student-Athlete of the Year Wayne McNamara of Lincoln High School
On May 8, 2024, the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and Official Hometown Health Partner Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island presented the 2024 RIIL Student-Athlete of the Year Award to Leila Hopkins of Classical High School and Wayne McNamara of Lincoln High School at the 12th annual RIIL Awards Breakfast, held at the Quonset O Club in North Kingstown.
Here are excerpts from the presentation of Wayne's award, made by BCBSRI Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Melissa Cummings:
I’m honored to be presenting this year’s Student-Athlete of the Year awards, which recognize the outstanding efforts of two seniors in Rhode Island high school athletic programs. These awards are given to student-athletes who excel in the classroom and during competition, who participate in multiple school-sponsored sports, and who demonstrate good citizenship in their school and in their community.
Our next Student-Athlete of the Year award goes to Wayne McNamara of Manville. A team captain and five-time All-State honoree in volleyball and basketball, Wayne has also collected multiple MVP, All-League, All-Division, and All-Academic awards throughout his time at Lincoln High School.
This past basketball season, he was named the Division 2 Player of the Year and wrapped up his senior season as Lincoln’s second-leading scorer all-time… with more than 1,300 career points!

In volleyball, he helped lead his team to a perfect 16-0 record and the regular-season title as a sophomore. His junior year, he guided Lincoln to the Division 2 state championship. His senior season is happening right now, so we’ll see what other awards he adds to his collection!
Outside of competition, Wayne ranks third in his class with a weighted GPA of 4.989, is a member of FBLA, a percussionist in the school band, a member of the ping pong club, and president of his senior class. He’s also active within the community, volunteering at places like the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Rhode Island and Basketball Club of Rhode Island.
In his nomination for this award, Wayne’s athletic director described him as one of the best student-athletes ever to play at Lincoln High School. His math teacher said he inspires her to do a better job, and be a better teacher. His English teacher said, “If our country had more people like Wayne McNamara in it, society would be in a much better position to realize our nation’s ideals.”
WOW!!! Those are some incredible endorsements!!
All three of these individuals also said that the most impressive thing about Wayne is simply who he is as a PERSON. He is a natural-born leader… a role model… intelligent… engaging… gracious… inspiring. He is a remarkable young man who has overcome adversity and who ALWAYS puts his family, friends, teammates, and classmates first.

The #RecessRocksinRI initiative, which BCBSRI launched with partners in the 2015-2016 school year, now reaches 31,180 Rhode Island students. This latest expansion, made possible through a $140,000 grant from BCBSRI ($447,800 to date), furthers the partnership’s efforts to change school culture and improve the health of children by leveraging safe, fun and healthy play at school every day. “A national study shows Playworks curriculum leads to increased vigorous physical activity, cooperation on the playground and in the classroom, and decreased bullying and disciplinary incidents,” said Jonathan Gay, Playworks executive director.
