I listened to a You're Dead to Me episode about Emma of Normandy and I can't get it out of my head!
So as a teenager, Emma married the King of "England" (it was a while ago) and became queen. Had some babies. Then the king was overthrown, she escaped back to "France." A new, teenage king took over and she married him! And produced new heir babies at like 30 years old. Total reversal of age gaps! She outlived her second husband too and also published this propaganda book about herself that claimed that King #2 was head-over-heels in love with her and that she was the real power behind the throne.
I find her totally fascinating. What an absolute queen (literal and figurative).

it is absolutely hilarious to me that John has spent the last year talking about his #gainz on the Elis and John show, with Elis and Dave so happy for him because they always just are so happy for anyone who doesn’t come off as a typical fitness enthusiast, or anyone with barriers to fitness finding their own ways of enjoying it, encouraging John, telling him how much they admire it all. It is hilarious to me that underneath all that, there was Elis, just casually benching way above John’s best, pulling up like 12 pull-ups on average where John dedicated a section of the podcast one week to when he managed to do 1, and Elis just never told him about it until recently. Because he didn’t want John to get discouraged or disheartened. All this while, meek little Elis, significantly shorter than John (which I mention because the two mention it often), going about his harmless day just cycling all over the country, was capable of absolutely fucking decking John, but he’s just too kind a soul to have done anything at all including even mention it to him, and the dynamic between these two absolutely cracks me up, they are the perfect foils to each other and that’s why even a chat podcast on BBC Sounds that spends 20 minutes talking about gym bro-ing, something I ordinarily wouldn’t stick around for, just becomes such a worthwhile and wonderful listen. Comedy!

I 100% get what Isy means when she talks about Elis.#If you’ve Elis-apologised at all you know exactly why everyone wants Elis so bad I am not even joking#Girls are down bad for this man and I get it

“I got to meet Harry Styles at the Brits. That was so cool. “So, I’ve never met him before, and I had no idea if he knew who I was, or whatever. I’m going over, I’m walking through the tables, and he - we clock eyes, and he points at me through the crowd, and I was just like, “Okay…” And then he was like, “Come over, come over here!” And I was like, “Okay!” And I go over, and he’s like, “I just love what you do so much.” And he was so nice, and he was like, “I just think you’re one of the best people doing interviews right now.” […] And I was like, “Well, funny you should say that because I think maybe you should come on the show!” “He was like, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, when the times right.” And I was like, “When the times right, I feel like you’ll be there.””
-Amelia Dimoldenberg on meeting Harry and possibly being interviewed on Chicken Shop Date. (30 June 2023)

Steven Knight - Desert Island Discs - Peaky Blinders
"“It was all about family keeping you in, and escaping from family to do the bad stuff, and then the family relocating their emotions and loyalties to follow you, and then escaping again."
#fascinated with SKs concept and the term of escape and what it means in the story..its always about the family to him#Tommys promise that they will escape..will definitely be a theme in the movie..#Tommy Shelby#Steven Knight#peaky blinders#Dessert Island Discs#bbc sounds

The Radio adaptation of Good Omens in on BBC radio 4 extra this week. It has two delightful cameos of Terry and Neil, playing two police men called, of course, Terry and Neil. It's lovely to hear Terry again. I can't find a way to link to it but it can be found on BBC Sounds and the program page looks like this .
