Star Trek: Voyager
That's five series cast pieces down! Some of the more challenging characters to capture were in this one. B'Elanna and, believe it or not, Seven Of Nine were the most difficult.

middle of thee night and im reading way too much into how worf and b'elanna's names are both bad anglicisations. it's obvious how wo'rIv became worf (you pull a six year old out of the rubble, ask him his name and write down his answer phonetically) but how does beylana become b'elanna? my moneys on john torres not being familiar enough with the klingon alphabet to transcribe it right on her federation birth certificate but nonetheless wanting it to "look" klingon so he threw a qaghwI' in there kind of at random. the unhinged point that im getting to being that worf's name is a reflection of his violent seperation from Klingon culture and imperfect attempts to reconstruct it from memory whereas b'elanna's is a reflection of how other people's warped perceptions and expectations of "klingonness" have been projected onto her overlapping and obscuring her own sense of identity since birth

Neelix: ...and the next thing I knew, I was being boiled alive in a pot of my own leola root stew.
B'Elanna, chin propped on hand: Talk about a nightmare.
Neelix: Well, it was perfectly seasoned.

When I first started watching Voyager and read the word Maquis I almost spat out my drink because, being from Spain, that's the name of the anti-fascist forces that fought against the dictatorship during the civil war. I understand it was also used in France to name the resistance against the nazi but in my mind I always imagine Chakotay and B'Elanna fighting the fascists in the mountains of Spain.
Like, I know the Star Trek writers were probably thinking of France, as their ship is a Les Miz reference, but for a second I allow myself to think that they might also be referencing Spain. After all, many Americans (notably Hemingway) fought in the Spanish Civil War, which was seen in a way as a rehearsal of what was to come just when it ended in 1939.
In any case, I love they used that name for the resistance against the Cardassians.
#and before you ask I haven't watched ds9 yet but I do know there are some maquis in it as well#it's the next star trek series on my list#star trek#star trek ramblings#star trek voyager#voyager#maquis#b'elanna#chakotay#voy#some history lesson I guess?

I think Seven would tentatively confide in B'Elanna about dissociation problems and B'Elanna would be like "Seven, everyone deals with that kind of thing! Don't worry about it too much, okay?" and they'd both be like, quietly relieved that they're not the only one and thus think that it's normal when in reality they should both talk to like, a professional. AND THEY WON'T! Bc they both kind of know in their hearts that it's weird but it's ok, bc they found someone else who understands and won't try to analyze them about it <3 Seven Dissociation: Fragile sense of burgeoning identity. Goes between feeling 'too empty' (you're not supposed to be alone) and 'too crowded' - as if she can feel multiple identities within her. Feels as if the 'original' her has died and she is a completely different person than the pre-borg her, not as if she IS that child just grown up. At times of high stress, she sometimes has memory lapses which freak her out. Not connected much to her body. Is this body hers? Where did she come from? She was born when she was severed from the collective and she was born when she emerged from the maturation chamber and she was born at some distant point in the past beyond memory, to a Human woman she once called mother. At times she listens back to her personal logs and feels as if she's listening to someone else's thoughts and opinions. Sometimes she remembers saying these things but still feels this way. It reminds her of being Borg, where she can remember things she did but can't really...reach it. Can't empathize fully. Who is Seven? Is she that child, the Human? Is she Seven of Nine, the borg? No. No. Who is Seven? B'Elanna Dissociation: Has a very 'insecure'[?] sense of identity. Easily hurt by and conscious of what others think of her though most wouldn't think this is true. Long periods of feeling completely detached from her body and the world, though she's still going about her daily tasks. Looks into the mirror and doesn't really recognize herself or sees herself as revoltingly ugly in ways others don't see or understand. At times self-harms in an attempt to 'return to herself' if she's dissociating too long as it starts to scare her. Often goes back and erases personal logs made while she dissociating. As a child had an internal habit of blaming things on one 'half' of her, heavily demonizing "The Klingon" girl and this has persisted into adulthood. Views herself in a very 'split' way - "My Klingon side protected me from X" etc. Does not have a cohesive whole vision of herself but instead sees herself as essentially "Good Half" and "Evil Half". I can picture her saying it was like she had a twin sister growing up. This began further back than she can remember but solidified totally after her father abandoned her family. At times she feels she is the "good" version of her, berating the "bad" one and at other times she's the "bad" one being berated. Her body is ugly and she is half evil and if only she could get rid of it, disengage from it, escape herself totally....
#Seven#B/7#B'Elanna#Guy who Dissociates a lot and has identity issues: I think characters I like dissociate a lot and have identity issues#<- THIS APPLIES TO TUVOK TOO BUT THAT'S NOT FOR THIS POST. HE KEEPS DOING DANGEROUS MELDS (consensual)!!!! & HAVING HIS MIND/BODY TAKEN OVER (nonconsensual)#and then also being ripped away from his wife and children v_v#For Seven the Borg thing is inexorably tied into her mental health issues#B'Elanna Torres

Can you do a B7 (Seven/B'Elanna) Reg, where Seven breaks into B'Elannas private Quarters and they end up in Bed together?
-> I sure can! Let´s give B7 some special Cotton Candy Surprise!
Cotton Candy
B'Elanna Torres was still in the engine room long after her shift had ended. She had been told to go and enjoy her evening, but something inside the half-Klingon told her that if she left her workplace without completing the task she was working on, everything would go down the drain.
After she had satisfactorily completed the task and checked once again that the shift that was now responsible for the engine room was doing everything right and would not cause a catastrophe while she was enjoying her evening - the spirited lady left the engine room and made her way to her quarters.
Her thoughts revolved around Tom Paris for a while.
The pilot boy had asked her out on a date several times - but Lana had no interest in someone who, like her, was always looking for arguments, breaking the rules and constantly throwing compliments around as if they were money.
No, if he continued like this, Lana was sure that she would slap him. Otherwise Paris would not learn.
But now she wanted to go to her quarters first, she wanted to take a shower and then maybe drink some wine - of course the replicated wine didn't come close to the Klingon blood wine - twice as strong as whiskey and B'Elanna really likes this drink - but unfortunately it only tastes good on the home world or when it is made by someone who knows what they are doing.
When the half-Klingon entered her quarters, she noticed that something was different than usual - the light in her bedroom was on and that made the fighter suspicious.
With her hands clenched into fists, she wanted to make her way to her bedroom when Seven of Nine turned the corner.
"What are you doing in my quarters!"- Lana snapped at the former Borg drone and was angry and outraged at first that the blonde was in here.
In secret, however, during the time that Seven had been on the ship, Torres had started to develop feelings for the emotionless, exhausting woman.
They were complete opposites and Lana was reminded of a saying from her grandparents - opposites attract - but that had absolutely nothing to do with the seriousness of the situation.
Lana wanted to know what Seven was doing here and what gave the attractive lady , the right to break into her quarters like that. So the half-Klingon wanted an answer from the blonde.
"I've been waiting for you," was Seven's answer and Lana noticed a strange undertone in the answer.
"That doesn't give you the right to come into my quarters - how did you get in here, Seven!" Lana wanted to know and didn't know whether she should laugh at the situation or react angrily.
"I bypassed the security code to your quarters and thus gained access - this is for you"
Seven held out a bright pink cotton candy hanging on a wooden stick to the astonished chief engineer and Lana thought it was a bad joke.
Was Seven's explanation of why she had come here and broken into her quarters - a little cotton candy that she should try.
"Don't hold the cotton candy in my eyes", growled Lana, not really understanding the motives of the pretty blonde - who would definitely look extremely beautiful with her hair down.
Nevertheless, the dark-haired woman took the wooden stick with the cotton candy and waited in vain for an answer from Seven.
Of course, Lana could have simply thrown the former Borg drone out herself - but the following words, which Seven then deigned to say - changed Lana's mind.
"The composition of the cotton candy is a special, modified one - it strengthens certain emotional regions and - it could help you with your problems - a shower would do the trick too - even if you seem attractive", said Seven and only seemed to have realized the last part of her sentence seconds later - she wanted to correct it, but the broad grin on the half-Klingon's face already spoke volumes.
"I knew you found me attractive - doesn't that go against your logical way of thinking?", Lana smirked and found it amusing , that Seven wanted to try to correct her statement.
Maybe her words meant something - maybe they weren't just a sentence that Seven had stored away at some point.
"You'll get an answer - if you try the cotton candy," the blonde said after a few seconds, trying to negotiate a compromise.
"Why should I do that?" Lana replied, looking first at the cotton candy and then at Seven's waiting face - who had blinked - wait, was that supposed to be a seductive wink?
"Have you seen a ghost?" Seven asked and a short
An amused smile appeared on her face. Maybe it really was the cotton candy - or Seven had simply thought of the emotion-enhancing part, because the pink, fluffy-looking thing on the stick smelled like absolutely normal cotton candy to Lana and the pink color didn't seem to have anything abnormal about it.
"There's one in front of me - and it's exhausting," Lana murmured before she deigned to eat some of the cotton candy.
It tasted sweet, was sticky and triggered something in the combative lady. Not only because she always ate it at fairs as a child and it gave her a nice, safe feeling.
And Torres saw again how incredibly much she felt for Seven.
Despite the Borg implants she still had to wear, she was a very attractive young woman.
"I think I understand what you mean, Seven," said Lana and her brown eyes suddenly sparkled seductively.
Whether her emotions were heightened or not, she noticed again that her feelings for Seven were getting stronger and Lana could see the same sparkle in the blonde's blue eyes.
It was like an automatic process that was activated - both of them cautiously walked towards each other.
B'Elanna quickly put the cotton candy on the nearest table and then devoted her full attention to Seven. Forgotten was the fact that she actually wanted to be angry with Seven - because she was in her quarters without permission - because the way Seven looked at her - she seemed to feel the same way and definitely not because of the cotton candy.
"Don't be afraid"- Lana whispered to the blonde, who wanted to hold out her hand but still hesitated.
"I'm Borg - being afraid is irrelevant - I just don't want to break your arm with one quick movement", Seven replied and this typical sentence only made Lana grin for a few seconds, but then she grabbed Seven's hand and pulled her a little closer to her.
Lana was surprised that Seven let her do it without resistance.
And now the former Borg drone seemed to have no problem with wanting to touch, because she carefully ran her free hand, which was not being held by Lana, over the half-Klingon's cheek and then brushed one of her short brown strands of hair out of her face.
"You awaken emotions in me just with your look, your manner and your body - what is the correct next step?" , Seven wanted to know in a quiet whisper, and desire and devotion now sparkled in her blue eyes.
"That is the correct next step"
Lana put her hands around Seven's neck, leaned forward a little and then kissed the blonde.
Seven was surprised by the quick action, the unusual demanding pressure on her lips and the positive feeling that spread through her. Well, the thing about the cotton candy was a lie - but not that she felt anything emotional for the half-Klingon - and Seven liked what was happening one hundred percent. She returned the kiss and felt the desire grow.
After a few seconds they separated their lips and Seven looked into the cheeky, sparkling brown eyes that prevented her from thinking logically and relevantly.
"You would look so beautiful with your hair down," Lana breathed to her after a kiss on the neck and with a clever, quick and somehow skillful movement opened the hair clips that held Seven's long blonde hair together in a tight braid.
This fell with a swing over the shoulders of the former Borg drone and a brief smile appeared on Seven's lips - before she grabbed Lana's butt and let out a quiet growl.
"If my conclusions are correct - and they will be - the next procedure will end with a dislocated arm and bruises - this feeling as if my abdomen wanted to pop out from the inside - what is it?" Seven wanted to know and let out a quiet gasp - she didn't know that it was desire - the desire to do something with Lana right now and right away.
"Let's find out - maybe it will just end up in bruises - but something tells me you'll be good in Bed Seven - come on, just follow me!" - ana whispered to Seven and pulled the former Borg drone into the bedroom.

Voyager Christmas Traditions
Janeway: Is the one who decides the senior staff should do Christmas together, but never actually organises it or cooks anything. She does however always give everyone the best presents before knocking back several brandies and going to sleep while everyone else is still talking.
Chakotay: Turns up even though he doesn't want to be there, gives fairly benign gifts like new coffee cups and photo frames. Picks at the food and moans about it (especially the carrots), bring his own alcohol from his secret stash and waits late to make sure Kathryn actually gets a proper sleep before she takes the morning shift.
Tuvok: Feigns indifference about the whole thing but hovers round the food like a vulture and always clears his plate. Gives thoughtful gifts like books of quotes, handmade ceramics he's picked up while on away missions, or crafts made by his own hand.
B'Elanna: Is cagey around the Christmas party for the first year or so since she only celebrated Christmas when she was really little and it makes her miss her dad. After she fails to get everyone to agree to a Secret Santa, she starts to gift people sweets and cakes, and usually ropes everyone into an after-dinner game of some sort (like charades) because even though she loves the senior crew, she still has a really low tolerance for small talk.
Tom: Arrives carrying copious amounts of booze and sweets he's stashed somewhere. Replicates Christmas crackers just so everyone has to wear a stupid hat at the dinner table. Tries and fails each year to turn Christmas dinner into a potluck to save them all from Neelix's cooking.
Harry: Goes overboard with the gift giving, giving everyone bags full of presents all the while apologising because he's convinced everyone will hate their presents. Gets tipsy and then maudlin at the dinner table, talking about everything his parents used to do at Christmas. Once properly drunk he disappears for a while and comes back with his clarinet and/or saxophone and plays a song or two before Tom distracts him with cookies. He's usually the first one to leave due to being an alcohol lightweight.
Neelix: Is in charge of the cooking for most of their Christmas dinners together. The first year he adds leola root to the stuffing. And decides mashed leola root is far more flavourful than mashed potatoes. He quickly learns he shouldn't do this, but every year after that he makes sure to add leola root to something... just for the nutritional value. Every year he's shocked the crew can pinpoint what he added it to. He almost got airlocked by Kathryn one year and putting mistletoe over her and Chakotay when they were standing talking. He still doesn't understand why she took exception to that because everyone else seemed to find it particularly amusing (especially Tom and drunk Harry who both shouted " just kiss already!").
Seven: Shows up as ordered to her first Christmas dinner with the senior crew, criticises the food and leaves. The next year she does slightly better, by criticising the food and staying. By their last Christmas together she manages to wrestle control of the kitchen from Neelix by claiming that her present to him is to give him the afternoon off. She puts on an extravagant multi-course banquet for her long-suffering friends, even making leola root mash specifically for Neelix.
The Doctor: After getting his mobile emitter, he's a no-show unless he's guaranteed the opportunity to present a slideshow educating the senior staff about different Christmas traditions around the world. He argues that since he can't eat then this is the least they can do to make him feel included. Every year he focuses on a different country or region, but the crew think he's making some of the facts up, especially the Catalan traditions!
