An - so.... this was supposed to post at 1pm my time 😒 evidently I drafted it instead of hitting schedule post. Low key thought you all hated it and I failed. Anyways! Forgive me 💜 and don't worry, you'll still get two smut corruption pieces today, though. Ps if you see mistakes, you don't.
Read Part One Here
Seraphina rocked back in her heels as he circled her like a hawk, a small smirk playing on his face as shadows broke her skin out in chills. “How lucky am I,” he moved closer to her back, “to have such an eager, pretty mate.”
She was beautiful. Smaller than he normally liked, but he knew from Eris that Beron kept her food very controlled to prevent her from gaining weight.
Which was a damn shame in Azriel's mind. The more curve, the better, and he would change that once she was his and his alone.
His scarred hand ran up her dress before gently wrapping around her throat, testing the waters instead of diving in head first. Seraphina, in return, whimpered loudly, the scent of her honeyed arousal coming into the air. Her hands found his thighs, gripping for purchase as she tilted her head back, allowing him, and his hand, more access. “Good girl,” he praised her softly, kissing below her pointed ear. “You know how to tug the bond, right?”
“Yes.”
Azriel kissed her bare shoulder before correcting her, “Yes sir.” Serphina nodded, watching him from the mirror. Her eyes widened at the feel of something cold and sharp on the base of her spine. “Breathe,” he kissed down her neck, and in one swift movement cut her dress enough to be able to rip it off.
She was calm throughout his testing of the waters. He rose a brow at her deep breaths. “You aren't afraid?”
She shook her head, her heart racing as hazel eyes met hers in the mirror. “What exactly do you plan to do to me?”
His shadows seemed to thicken and his eyes darkened as he stared at her in the mirror, placing that sharp dagger back into it's holster. “Everything,” he growled before gripping the back of her neck and turning her into a heavy kiss.
It was electric. It was passionate. It was fire meeting shadows. Dancing together as her hands found stability and purchase on his chest after her dress fell.
He backed her to the bed instantly. Growling as he shoved her back and was instantly on her body again.
He had waited years for this. Years for a mate, an equal. The fact that he would be her first. That he would be the one to ruin her and corrupt her was just a bonus.
Bites and kisses started going lower down Seraphina's body, making her shiver. Azriel bit down on her neck, causing her back to arch and a soft whine to leave her mouth. Her hand tried shooting to her lips, hoping to trap the noises in just for shadows to rip her arms away from her, locking them above her head in a vise like grip.
Azriel tutted her softly. “Do you want to be my good girl?” She nodded eagerly, arching into his shadows and hands as they roamed her body. “Words or we stop.”
“Yes sir,” his own heart fluttered at her submission, at how quickly she was taking her role.
“Then let me hear everything. Let me hear how good I'm making you feel.”
“Yes sir.”
“And stop looking away. I want you to watch what I'm doing to you.”
She nodded again, lip pulled between her teeth as his kisses reached her breasts and his warm tongue began to play with her nipple. The soft moan that left her lips was music.
Her body was a harp, a fine tuned instrument just waiting to be played, and for once, Azriel truly felt he was a musician. He wanted to cherish her, to show her how she as his mate would spend her life treated and worshipped.
But then his mind flashed back to her pretty mouth wrapped around that candy, to her visual fantasy Rhys had happily put into his mind the second it started, and all that hope went out that window.
His sole mission was to ruin her. To ensure no other male would bring her to the brink of pleasure over and over and over the way he could. And Azriel never failed a mission.
Kisses became soft bites, making gasps and moans fall from pretty parted lips and Seraphina's amber eyes to roll back. She thought he was going to kill her. He had hardly touched her and she knew she was soaked. She knew that coil would snap within moments of him doing anything to her. A pained whine came as his teeth sank into the inner side of her right breast, bruising and marking the soft untouched skin there before turning and marking the left the same way. “Mine,” he growled causing more heat to shoot through her body. “All mine.”
His kisses began to trail lower again. Mouth coming to a halt above her center as he looked at her. “Also. Fucking. Mine.”
Azriel did not give her a chance to respond, a chance to understand what was about to happen, and that first lick had her jaw fall open, head going back to the pillow and an almost scream like whine leaving her mouth. He wasted no time, instantly feeling that noise shoot to his cock and began eating her out like it was his last meal. Every nudge of his tongue in her center, on cilt, in her folds had her moaning, arching, pulling at his shadows as they restrained her tighter, holding her wide open and completely under Azriel's control.
His hands dug into her hips, leaving bruises there instantly as well as he groaned into the taste of her before wrapping his lips around that swollen bundle of nerves and focusing a ruthless attack there. He watched her under hooded lashes as she arched, as she cried, as the foreign feeling brought tears to her eyes and began to ruin her mascara.
She'd cum just from this. Just from his tongue rolling her pretty clit, circling it, pushing down on it. She'd cum for the lightest touches. And that got him off. It made him feel like a God.
Sera felt her eyes roll back again, an unfamiliar feeling in her stomach as her breathing and moaning picked up. She needed something, needed more. “Please,” she began to beg, her voice breathy and desperate as he began fucking her core, stretching her slightly with his tongue. “Sir, please. I-”
He pulled away, a hand quickly striking her pussy before rubbing gently to soothe her. “Good girls do not beg, pet. Are you a good girl or a whore?” He glared at her slightly as she whined before smacking her again. “if you want to be treated like a fucking whore, then I will treat you like a whore.”
He turned her, allowing his shadows to restrain her on her stomach with a limb towards each corner of the bed. He placed a pillow under her hips, positioning her ass and pussy in the perfect spot for him before waiting to see if she tugged the bond, if this was too much. Her hips wiggled instead, trying to sneak attention from that trapped pillow.
He sent a silent prayer and thank you to the Mother, to the Cauldron, to any deity listening, and then he spanked her.
And again.
And again.
And again.
Watching as her milky pale skin turned bright red for him, watching as she began dripping for him. “You are a fucking whore, aren't you? Getting off on me spanking you.” He spanked her again, watching as her legs began to shake. “Are you going to cum from me spanking you?”
Shame should have filled her then and there, but it didn't. She should be ashamed of herself. She had always been taught sex was not for her. It was for the male. Her sole job was to please him and him alone. Yet here she was, seconds from finding absolute bliss as her mate did nothing more than treated her like a babe in need of punishment.
Azriel brought both hands down on her ass, and watched as she screamed, body jolting and her tight hole clenched around nothing. She came screaming his name, tears streaming down her face. He ran his hand up and down her back, slowing her breathing through the High before running his hands back to her pussy and feeling those soaked folds.
“You have to relax,” he warned gently as she stiffened. “If you don't relax, I will end up hurting you, and I don't want to hurt my perfect pet, do you understand?”
“Yes sir,” Sera tried relaxing. Focusing on the humming bond. On his amusement, his pleasure in seeing her like this. She whimpered as two fingers ran from her clit to her whole, lubricating those thick scarred digits in her nectar.
Azriel pushed his middle finger in. He felt his own eyes roll back, imagining the feeling of her soft tight walls on his cock as she let out a breathy moan. He began pumping immediately, not giving her time to adjust and then inserted a second finger before leaning over her to put his hand in her hair and pull, forcing her to arch her back more as she began to cry again. “Gonna feel so good on my cock, pet. So fucking tight and warm.” The praise warmed her immediately. Another wave of heat and wetness flowing through her. “This pussy is mine, you hear me? You are mine. You belong to me.”
Seraphina felt her heart flutter at that. At the idea of being his and his alone. At the idea of no one else stretching her like this. Her walls began to twitch as he found a spot he had been searching for and began to ruthlessly curl and thrust his fingers in to it.
She was soaking the pillow, her thighs, his hand. Azriel's shadows began to remove his clothing, freeing his aching cock and allowing him to stroke it in time with his fingers. Sera was panting again, her hips trying to meet his hand only to be held in place as he felt her approaching the edge again.
Before she could, he pulled away, landing a harsh spank on her bruising ass before standing and removing his leathers completely.
“All in one or gently. Pick now.” His desperate voice sent a wave of power through Sera. The idea of him being this worked up for her while she did nothing but submit to his will make her glow with feminine pride.
“Just fuck me.”
He was surprised by the answer, hand coming to use her juices as lubricant on his cock before he got behind her with a dangerous grin. “I'd tell you to hold on to something, but it appears your hands are a little preoccupied.”
It was pleasure, pain, completion, everything. Sera felt herself fall into shock before a loud wailing moan filled the room along with the scent of her Maidenhood breaking.
Azriel's hand gripped the sheet next to her head as he too let out a pitched moan. She felt exactly as he had imagined. Warm, velvety walls pulsed around him. He gave a gentle teasing thrust, watching as her mouth fell back open. Her make up always ruined, her hair a mess, body littered in bites and bruises.
He had not been gentle with her once tonight, and he was about to start now unless she asked. He placed a foot solid on the bed and grabbed her waist. Then he began.
Seraphina saw the heavens when he moved. His thick cock dragging in and out of her, lighting every inch and nerve on fire as she could do nothing more than lay there moaning and crying out for him.
Her walls were twitching, begging for release instantly as they pulled him in deeper and deeper. He was going to fuck her into two pieces. She hadn't even had the chance to look at his cock, but Gods she felt it. She felt it brushing her cervix with each thrust. She felt it hitting places healers didn't even have names for yet. She felt it pulling her apart inch by inch until she was the perfect sleeve for him.
Azriel watched as her eyes fluttered shut, a small smile forming on her face, and she began to drool slightly.
He had fucked her dumb this easily. Fucked every brain cell from her and rendered her completely to his will.
Seraphina would be easy to train. Easy to make his personal whore. His perfect little mate, his perfect little wife, his perfect cock sleeve, always ready, dripping, and eager for him.
He fucked her until dawn broke through the window. Taking her cunt, her throat, her ass. He came on her face, inside of her, on her tits. She was soaked in his seed, her essences, his and her sweat.
He held her tight in the tub. Bouncing her on his cock as she sat in his lap crying from overstimulation. He released into her again, triggering another orgasm from her that left her in a silent scream and whimpers. He didn't allow her off, forcing her to sit chest to chest with him and warm his cock.
No words passed between them.
No words needed to.
When she tried to speak, he pushed two fingers into her mouth. “We will talk when master is ready. Am I understood, whore?”
She nodded, gagging as the digits pushed in further and maintaining eye contact like he had taught her. He hardened inside of her tender abused cunt again. And he lifted her off and turned her.
The slow realization hit her. 12 orgasms wasn't enough.. 8 hours wasn't enough. Her mate was insatiable.
And she was all too happy to just be used.

It's a Love Story - Chapter 3
Summary:
Azriel's shadows find their master a wife.
Azriel would just really like his heart not to get broken again.
And Sky...well, she's just really surprised that that far too handsome male is interested in her at all.
Warning:
Rhys Bashing (as usual), I classified this as Azriel x OC, even when it't technically Azriel x Sellyn Drake (but we kinda know nothing about Sellyn Drake other than that she writes books so Sky is kinda an OC), Cassian is kinda a good guy for once, Azriel has a horrible time, as usual... Stuttering, toxic families (For once I do not mean the IC), Self-Esteem Issues, Secret Identity, Body Image Issues, Fat Shaming, People being utterly horrible.
If any of this triggers you or makes you uncomfortable, please take care of your own mental health and don't read it.
The shadows unceremoniously dumped a whole stack of Sellyn Drake Novels on Azriel’s desk.
Azriel eyed the stack of novels dubiously, wondering how in the Mother's blessed name the Shadows had gotten their hands on these. Or why.
But they stayed silent, clearly waiting for him to outright demand an answer. *Why?* he asked with a long suffering sigh. *What's this about?*
No response.
Azriel reached for one of the books, pulling it off the top of the stack and flipping it over. And immediately he regretted that decision. The cover was…certainly something.
A shirtless man holding a rather skimpily dressed woman up against a wall.
Azriel let out a long, long sigh.
*You need to read the books, Master,* the shadows told him seriously.
Azriel stared at his shadows, then at the books, then at his shadows. *You cannot possibly be serious.* What exactly was this supposed to give him?
He flipped it over, reading the synopsis.
When Lady Eleanor is forced into an unwanted marriage, she despairs—until the enigmatic Sir Tristan, a battle-scarred knight with a fearsome reputation, crashes into her life. Bound by a promise to protect her, Tristan whisks Eleanor away from her gilded prison, thrusting them into a wild escape across enemy lands.
Haunted by his past and wary of love, Tristan tries to keep Eleanor at arm's length. But as they face danger together, a fierce passion grows between them, tempting them to trust in a love that could heal even the deepest wounds.
What the fuck.
*We are, Master.* The Shadows told him, sounding as earnest as they possibly could.
He opened the book. Titled The Dark Knight’s Desire, flicking through the pages. Was this…a first edition?
*It’s important!* The shadows insisted. *You know…to brush up on these flirting skills of yours.*
Azriel shot the shadows an unamused look. *I can flirt perfectly well,* he protested.
*You most certainly cannot.* The Shadows deadpanned. *It’s research! Read them for her!*
*Read them for…* Azriel started, his voice trailing off.
*You found...* he trailed off weakly. They had found a female for him?
The shadows swirled around him almost playfully. *Of course we did,* they said innocently. *We told you we would, didn’t we?*
They were working quickly. It had only been weeks since he had agreed to let them find him a wife.
*You did,* Azriel said slowly, but his mind was working fast, so fast, trying to wrap around the idea that his Shadows were trying to help him find a wife…and more importantly, that they had found a female they thought he would find suitable.
*Where did you find her?* he asked, carefully.
*Here in Velaris!* the shadows answered brightly.
*Here?* Azriel asked, his surprise obvious. The shadows had found...a female...here in Velaris? Someone who was compatible with him? And they wanted him to read...what were these again? Sellyn Drake novels? So he would know how to best romance this female?
*Read the books, Master,* the shadows said with a sigh. So he did.
And that was how Azriel spent his next few hours. Reading a book, and blushing like some sort of adolescent boy when certain…particularly intimate scenes came around. The Shadows cackled beside him the entire time.
How the fuck did Nesta do this with a straight face?!?
Azriel had no idea, but by the Mother, he was never going to ask her. Ever. He would just die of embarrassment.
Though he needed to admit...he actually quite liked it.
The novels, that is. The…intimate scenes. Azriel liked them. A lot. Not even the...smut, like Nesta called it...no, he liked the love story. He liked the two people that came together and would do everything for each other...the falling in love part. He liked that.
But the Shadows were probably never going to let him live this down. Azriel did find comfort in a single thought, though. Whoever this possible future partner was, she was never going to know about this. There was no way in hell he would let her find out that he read smutty books to brush up his flirting skills.
But even that did not stop the nagging thought in Azriel's head, one that made him hesitate, and doubt himself, and doubt the Shadows' judgment. "What if..." he said softly, hesitantly. "What if she just...doesn't like me?"
He knew he had some...rough edges, to put it kindly. And he had his own...troubles. His own...insecurities. Some of the things he kept to himself, so many of his...issues. The shadows knew of them all, of course…There were many nights they stayed up with him, soothing him when the ghosts in his mind became a little too loud, a little too real.
What if that scared her? He didn't want her to be scared. He didn't want to scare her.
*She'll like you, Master.* The Shadows assured him, wrapping themselves around him comfortingly and soothingly. *She’ll love you.*
He exhaled. *Can you read minds now?*
*Only yours,* the Shadows assured him. *But as long as you don't cheat on her with her sister, you'll be doing a better job than her ex-partners!*
What.
"Are you seriously reading a Sellyn Drake novel?" Only 5 centuries of training kept him from flinching as he looked up to find Cassian in his doorway.
"Nesta said it was good," he shot back flatly, not hiding the book, because that would just give Cassian even more reason to tease him.
"You...actually listen to Nesta's...book recommendations?" Cassian stared at him, as if he had grown a third head.
"She is intelligent, and she reads more than either of us," Azriel shot back, sharply. "So yes, if she says it's good, I'll try it."
Cassian gave a slight shake of his head, not believing what he was hearing. "You are…actually reading a Sellyn Drake novel?" He repeated as if he couldn't quite believe that Azriel was actually doing that.
"Yes," Azriel said, his words clipped. "You have a problem with that?"
Cassian just stared at him for a long moment before letting out a quiet laugh. "No, I just never thought I would actually see the day that you read a Sellyn Drake novel."
"Well, I like it," Azriel said evenly. "It’s very are well written."
"And smutty," Cassian said with a grin.
Azriel rolled his eyes. "It’s are more than just...smut, Cassian, It actually has a story, and good characters."
"Characters who can barely keep their hands off each other long enough to solve the mystery, you mean," Cassian drawled, but Azriel ignored him, flipping a page.
."Have you ever actually read a Sellyn Drake novel, Cassian?" Azriel asked, shooting him a look. "Or do you simply judge by the covers?"
Cassian just grinned, clearly enjoying this conversation and how defensive Azriel had become. "The covers are pretty damn attractive though."
Azriel rolled his eyes at that comment, but didn't respond. Just looked back down at the book, completely ignoring his brother.
"Are you coming to dinner tonight?" Cassian asked him instead.
"No," he answered flatly. He did really want to know how the book ended.
*We found a house! We can show it to you!* the shadows hissed at that moment. Huh.
"There is something that needs my attention," Azriel said simply.
Cassian gave him a searching look, a frown etched into his face, but Azriel simple met his gaze.
"Az," Cassian said quietly. "Come on."
"I have something I need to do, Cassian." Azriel's voice was still flat, but more firm, a clear sign that he did not want any arguments.
"Az," Cassian said again, and this time, there was a small thread of pleading in his voice. "Just… come have dinner with us. Please. It'll be good for you."
Good? Good to sit at Rhys' table and be told to "behave"? Azriel would rather eat crushed glass than do that. Which was the reasons why he skipped out of them as often as he possible could.
He knew, he knew that Cassian was just looking out for him, but that didn't mean that he felt like he was obligated to go.
"I have something I need to do," he repeated, his voice even.
Cassian sighed. "You are so goddamn stubborn," he muttered, but he let the subject drop, clearly knowing that Azriel was not going to listen.
That evening, instead of sitting through that dinner, Azriel let the shadows swirl around him in excitement, tugging on his jacket, practically dragging him forward.
*It's a lovely house, Master!* they said as they wrapped him in their embrace.
He blinked twice as he rematerialised in front of a lake. Somehow not quite what he had expected. But then…then he saw the house.
Grey stone and wood and the biggest windows he had ever seen that promised an breathtaking view over the lake… and nobody around as far as he could see. He stared at the house, a brow raised. It was nice…very nice. A little too nice. Exactly too his taste.
Azriel turned towards the shadows as he raised another brow. *And how exactly did you…* he started with a huff. *You know what, nevermind.*
He could already hear the shadows saying that they asked for a favor in exchange. Or maybe they stole it.
The house was still nice though, perfect really. He just…didn't want to know what they had done to get it.
Azriel glanced towards the building again. He could almost picture himself in the space, walking around, just….simply existing. It was peaceful and quiet…and he would not be…disturbed or bothered.
He could see himself reading in front of the fireplace, looking out into the night sky through the large windows.
Azriel walked towards the building, his fingers brushing over the wall. He could feel it already….he could already feel his muscles loosening, his shoulders lowering from their stiff position.
Home, he thought as stepped into the space, the shadows following after him as his lips tugged upwards.
Yes, he could already see himself calling it that. Home. He liked the ring of it.
*You're welcome, Master,* the shadows said as they swirled around him, nuzzling him affectionately. They were happy for him, so very happy for him.
The living room was spacious, filled with overstuffed couches and armchairs made for wings… the view indeed was spectacular. And one long uninterrupted wall was lined with tall, massive bookshelves.
It was perfect.
*Does she like books?* he couldn't help but ask.
*Yes, Master! She loves books!* The Shadows assured him in an excited chorus.
She liked to read. That was the first little tidbit of information he learned about her.
*Will you tell me something else about her?* he asked them softly, as he kept exploring the house.
*What do you want to know?* the shadows asked.
*Did her ex-partner really cheat on her with her sister?* he wondered aloud.
*Yes. They are engaged to be married now,* the shadows answered. *He's an asshole,* they muttered darkly.
Azriel couldn't help but give a nod in agreement. An ass was too kind. Whoever he was, he was more than that. Azriel hated him, whoever he was.
*Anything else?* he asked the shadows, curious, so damn curious, to know more about the female.
*She has a cat. His name is Hector. He may be the ugliest cat in existence,* the shadows said primly, *but she adores him.*
Not what he expected, but it was...sweet. It was kind. She had a pet cat. His lips tugged upwards into an involuntary smile.
*And...?* he trailed off, waiting for a response. He was greedy, so damn greedy for more, so greedy to get to know the female more. His curiosity about her had grown to a fever pitch, it seemed.
The Shadows hummed thoughtfully. *She is very, very kind, Master,* they finally said softly.
Those words caused Azriel's smile to go soft, so damn soft. His heart fluttered at the Shadows' words. She was kind. She was kind and she had a cat that she adored. Her ex was an ass who cheated on her. She read, liked books, which meant she was intelligent, and…
Was he getting excited about someone he had never even met?
*When...when can I meet her?* he asked softly.
*Soon,* the shadows promised. *She doesn't leave the house that often...*
Azriel's brows drew together at that. *Why not?* he asked quietly, not sure if he really wanted the answer to that question.
The Shadows hesitated for a moment before responding. *People...people aren't very nice to her,* they admitted slowly.
Azriel blinked, confused. People...weren't nice to her...? But…why? What was there not to be nice about? From what he had gleaned, she was kind, had a cat, was smart, and liked books. What was wrong with any of that? It didn't make any sense.
*Why?* he demanded shaprly.*Because people are idiots as usual,* the shadows snapped right back. *People aren't nice to you either.*
Azriel gave a small wince at that, the shadows words hitting him like a bucket of ice cold water. But they were right, people weren't all the nicest to him, either.
Still...he didn't like the idea of her being treated poorly. He wanted...Gods, the want was so strong, all of a sudden. The want to…to protect her. To guard her, and protect her. To keep her safe. To make sure she was alright.
*Tell me when she leaves her house,* he demanded.
For a moment he could swear the shadows were nearly frozen in place.
*Change of Plans. Put on a different shirt,* the shadows said quickly. Azriel just stared at them.
*A different shirt?* he asked. He didn't even have any clothing here! That was back at the House of Wind. But the shadows were clearly not taking no for an answer.
He batted away a tendril as it started to unbuckle his fighting leathers and did it himself, only for them to shove him into a shirt that was so dark green it was nearly black and then start fussing with his hair.
Azriel barely had time to even process what was happening before the shadows were pushing him towards the door, still trying to fix and smooth his hair and clothes as they moved forward.
*What is the change of plan?* he asked them
*You are getting to see her right now,* the shadows said with a hint of glee to their voice. *Her sister and some friends are taking her to a bar.*
*The same sister that cheated on her with her ex-partner?* he demanded.
*Yes,* the shadows agreed in a hiss.
Great. So he was going to have to stop a fight from happening, all while trying to meet the female he apparently was connected to? That was a...recipe for disaster right there..
*She'll be at the Crystal Drop* the shadows informed him, and his heart gave a strange little clench at those words. He was...he was actually going to get to meet her. Tonight.
The feeling of excitement was back, rushing through him like a wildfire. But there was also a hint of trepidation, a hint of nervousness. What if he screwed it all up? What if he messed things up? His stomach was suddenly full of butterflies.
Azriel didn't have time to dwell on those thoughts, though, as the shadows gave him a little nudge forward again, all but forcing him to start moving towards the tavern.
He could see it in the distance, the sign proclaiming it as “Crystal Drop”. It...it was right there. She was there...
Taking a deep breath, he headed towards the bar, his heart pounding in his chest with every step that he took closer to the entrance. Gods, his hands were shaking.
He was nervous. He couldn’t even remember the last time he was
He entered the tavern, and his eyes automatically went to the crowd, searching for...something.
The shadows let him towards a place in a corner where he could view the whole bar and he ordered a single fireale, because he was not getting drunk. He wanted his wits about him when he met her.
But right now…right now, Azriel settled in to watch.
He watched the crowd, his eyes roving around, searching the whole tavern once again. He just wanted to know where the group was. He wanted to know where...she was.
*Do you see her, Master?* the shadows asked him, nearly teasingly.
*I have absolutely no clue how she looks, so how should I?* he gave back in a growl. The door opened and he watched as a group of females poured in...and then right there at the edges of that group...
His breath caught in his throat as his eyes fell on her, and...oh.
Between one blink and the next everything changed. A golden bond unfurled in his chest, connecting him to her.
Her.
He knew it.
She was his mate.
Mine. He whispered in his head, barely more than a thought. He knew it with every fiber of his being, every part of his heart.
He took her in hungrily.
She was so beautiful. So, so beautiful. Azriel had to physically restrain himself from going over to her right then and there.
He could hardly breathe. He couldn't form a coherent thought. His whole world had suddenly narrowed to the sight in front of her. His mate.
*Master?* There was alarm in the shadows voices as his breathing became near erratic.
*She's...You found my mate,* he said weakly.
The shadows hummed in confirmation and his eyes were glued to her still, drinking her in. She had long brown hair with soft curls, falling over back, bangs framing a rounded face with high cheekbones and plump cheeks...full rosy lips too and adorable freckles dotting over her nose...
She was the most beautiful being he had ever seen. She was simply...stunning.
And mine, he thought to himself. She was his. She was his mate.
He didn't even look at the rest of the group. Just focused on the one...the one who was at the edge of the group, seemingly trying to vanish, to become invisible.
Even from the distance, Azriel could see the tension in his mate’s form. He frowned slightly at that. He didn't like it, seeing her like that.
He...his instincts were starting to kick in, a soft, protective urge rising up in him. He wanted to go to her, to...to stand by her side and ease away whatever was bothering her. But he stayed rooted to the spot, just...just watching her. Just watching his mate, the sight of her soothing every single little part of him until he felt warm all over.
He let the group settle at a table a few feet away from him, forcing himself to look down on the bottle in front of him and not stare at his mate like a total creep.
If he strained his ears, he could hear the whole conversation. Apparently it was his mate’s sisters Hen Party, the kind of celebration that some High Fae Females had before they got married.
Nice. Why not bring along your sister, when you were engaged to the guy that cheated with you on said sister?
The fact that his mate even came along into this bar that evening was probably a sign of how fucking nice she was. And Gods...no wonder his mate was so anxious...this whole thing was just...a disaster waiting to happen.
He glanced towards the group again, his attention once again immediately falling on his mate. He could see it, the small twitch of her fingers, the tightening of her lips...the small little things, and he felt his heart wrench at the sight.
She didn't talk. She was just sitting there silently, while the other females had a raucous conversation, that she wasn't part of. It made him bristle.
He didn't understand why they were doing that, why she wasn't a part of the conversation. She was right there. But they weren't listening, they weren't noticing her...or maybe they were ignoring her on purpose.
He...he didn't like it. He didn’t like it at all.
Just minutes later, Azriel realised that he should have wished that they kept ignoring her.
Because Azriel was quite certain that he was going to slit his mate's sister's throat with Truthteller if she said one more word.
The blonde, her sister, stared at his mate and this time a sharp, nasty smile curled on her lips. "Oh, what's the matter, little sister? Mad that I nabbed the male you were going to marry?" she taunted with a malicious grin. "I guess he just liked me better."
Azriel was so shocked that he could just sit there, staring.
The other females laughed as the blonde continued, her lips curled in a sneer. "You should be happy for me, really," she said, her voice sugary sweet. "After all, you could never keep him happy. You've always been useless, haven't you?"
The comments made Azriel see red. What the hell was wrong with this female? Who treated their own sister like this?
He had half a mind to go over there and wring her neck.
*Don’t,* his shadows hissed. *You’ll make it worse.*
*Make it worse?! It can’t fucking get worse!* he hissed back.
He itched to go over to the group, to protect his mate from these cruel, cruel words.
*Yes, it can,* the shadows snapped. *What do you want to do? Massacre her sister right in front of her?!* Azriel growled under his breath.
*Normally you are much more bloodthirsty,* he complained to the shadows.
*You are the fucking spymaster. Act like it,* the shadows snapped. *You want us to make her sister’s life a misery? We’ll do it. We’ll do it and it will never be traced back to you. Besides, she deserves worse than a quick death.*
He clenched his teeth.
The other females were laughing, but his mate...wasn't. She wasn't saying a single word, wasn't defending herself, wasn't saying anything. Just...just sitting there and taking the horrible abuse with a neutral, blank expression on her face.
"Cat got your tongue?" her sister asked her with a roll of her eyes. "I mean, it's not like you're good at talking, are you?" she asked her with a cruel little laugh. "Too bad for you that males want females that are able to have a conversation, not awkward little things who can't even speak when spoken to."
Azriel's body tensed as he listened to the words, every muscle coiled tight. It took every ounce of his control not to stride over to the group of females and punch her sister straight in the face. The only thing he wanted to do in that moment was to protect his mate.
The comment clearly found it's target, Azriel could see his mate flinch at the words, her face crumbling momentarily before it smoothed over into a neutral expression again. Gods...it must've hurt so badly to hear her sister speak to her like that…
*We’ll ruin her fucking life,* he vowed to the shadows.
*Agreed, Master.”
Her sister rolled her eyes another time. "Come on, let's go," she told the other females. "You have the bill, don't you, Skylar?"
The words made Azriel snap. So the sister hadn't intended to even pay for her drinks in the first place? It was…they had just used her, he realised suddenly. Used her for the first stop on their tavern tour, to pick up the drink tab…and that was all she was good for in their eyes…
It was...Azriel couldn't stand by and watch this anymore, it made him so angry. So fucking furious.
"Ye...yes," his mate stuttered.
She looked so small in that moment, her eyes averted, her shoulders slumped, her hands trembling. She looked...wounded, so hurt, and Azriel was...he was sick of seeing her just accept this verbal abuse without a word.
They left. They should thank the cauldron that they left at that moment, because otherwise Azriel would have made Cassian at his worst look like a puppy.
He wanted to storm after them, to give every single person in the group a piece of his mind, but that could wait. The most important thing right now was his mate. She was still here, after all. Azriel took a deep breath, and slowly, almost hesitantly walked towards her.
He watched as she didn't move, and he finally decided to speak, his voice a low, soft murmur. "Mind if I sit here?" he asked, gesturing to the chair beside her.
Her head turned, and he felt his heart stop as her eyes met his for the first time. Up close, her eyes were...mesmerizing. A deep, sparkling blue, framed by long, lush eyelashes. He couldn't look away from her.
And she stared at him, her mouth slightly open, her eyes near comically wide.
He gave her a soft, slow smile. "Hi," he greeted her, his voice gentle. She blinked a few times, still staring at him, and he found it so cute, how shocked she was that he was talking to her.
Her mouth opened but no words came out. She was staring at him like a poor bunny rabbit would at an apex predator , caught in his grasp.
For just a moment her scent went utterly haywire.
Caramel and Hazelnuts. So sugary sweet that he would have gladly rolled around in it. And she just stared at him, wide eyed, silent...until suddenly the scent changed to incadescent happiness.
"Oh." A small sound escaped her as she swallowed.
And he knew. He knew at that moment that the bond had just snapped for her.

~ Shadows Bathed In Moonlight ~
Azriel x Youngest Archeron Sister!Reader x OC
Little Ezekiel was not like his cousins.
Nyx, older only by two years, was cheerful and outgoing, curious like his mother and with an unbridled fearlessness just like his father.
Baby Thena, the youngest of the three, who had only just began to walk- toddle, already had the will of both her mother and father.
Cassian’s mischievous grin with Nesta’s piercing gaze.
Ezekiel, however, was just like Azriel.
He was very shy, in fact, he preferred to hide behind his mother’s legs and cling onto the shimmering skirts that pooled over them than chase after his cousins.
Rest his curly mop of raven hair against his father’s neck who was more than happy to scoop him up and carry him around, protective over the innocent child who had yet to be tainted by Prythian’s cruelties.
It was no secret Azriel preferred it that way, Rhysand and Cassian often teasing his parental axiety and overbearing behaviour, reminding him his son was an Illyrian after all.
Just as Illyrian as he had once been- delicate wings folded against his little back but with unblemished hands and love in his heart.
Azriel would keep it that way.
His Mate knew it was because of the innate fear of the Mother snatching his happiness away- as though he had never deserved it.
Ezekiel was a little miracle.
Not only were Fae children rare, the dangerous birth had put his mother in a coma, and him confined to the Healer’s for the first month of his wavering life.
It was the worst time of Azriel’s centuries long existence.
If he had been protective before, he was a hundred times worse now
When the other children played, Ezekiel was happy to curl up in another adult’s lap, to which many of them had no qualms, as Ezekiel was just the “cutest” according to Mor- a tiny version of his father that the Inner Circle could squeeze and smother with kisses.
Feyre often scolded Nyx for dragging the poor boy around, but Ezekiel held no grudges, a small blush on his face as his cousin tugged him along ranting on about whatever a child of his age had to rant about.
But now it was time for him to leave the nest.
The one his parents has so throughly wound.
“Ezekiel,” his mother bent down to his eye level, twinkling hazel eyes wide and scared. “Mama will be back soon okay?”
The little boy’s lip wobbled and tiny fists came to rub at his eyes which quickly filled with tears. His silent sobs broke her heart, Madja had always said he was an easy baby, like his father.
And even now- when he cried, he tried to hide it.
It worried her- that he would never throw a tantrum or openly seek comfort- but hide it as though he was ashamed to feel.
He choked back little cries as his mother had to force away her own.
She hated to think her little boy felt the need to internalise his feelings- especially from her.
Azriel had assured her it was okay- that he had been that way too, even when his own mother had shown him nothing but love.
“You’ll have lots of fun my Little Shadow,” she pressed a deep kiss to his wet cheek, gently brushing away his tears, trying not only to convince him but herself. “Nyx will be with you-“
“Yepppp! Come on ‘Zekiellllll!” His cousin’s voice sang in anticipation, not understanding why the boy was so reluctant to play with toys and read funny picture books all day.
Ezekiel continued to cry and so his mother picked him up, cradling him against her chest as he sobbed without restraint.
Unusual for such a well-behaved child such as he.
“D-Don’t leave me mama!” He wept. “I-I pwomise I’ll be good p-pwease don’t give me away!”
Her heart broke as he trembled and her free hand came to stroke at his curls, the way she had done to comfort her own husband many a time.
“I would never give you away my darling, and you have not been bad,” she smoothed his raven locks, “you are a big boy now, just like Nyx. You are old enough go and play with all other children-“
“I not a big boy I-I still a baby!” He cried and that was when his father appeared, face just as torn as his mother’s.
The boy did not giggle as he usually did when his father’s shadows came to tickle against his cheek, his cries coming out in small hiccups as she looked to Azriel in pure misery.
He wordlessly plucked the child from her arms, his own chest tightening at the sound of his only child’s pained cries- crying under the belief he was being abandoned.
Azriel had vowed his child would never feel the way he had, unloved and nothing but a burden the Mother was so cruel to burden the equally dismal world with.
His Mate had changed that outlook.
And now his greatest treasure- a part of them both, homage to their fiery passion and proof the Shadowsinger was indeed capable of love.
Ezekiel continued to cry as Azriel’s shadows were equally as unsettled, trying their best to cheer up the little boy who quivered so violently, he might have fallen from his father’s arms had the older male’s grip been so secure.
He would rather suffer burns across his entire flesh- take Truthteller to his heart than have his son feel unwanted.
“You know that your mother and I love you- more than anything. More than the sky above.”
Ezekiel sniffed, his little head nodding pathetically as best it could smushed into Azriel’s chest.
“You are our little star Ezekiel. You are the most precious thing to us- in all of Prythian. We would never let anything or anyone harm you, you never have to be afraid of the world as long as I am here.”
Feyre stood in the distance- letting her brother-in-law share the moment with his son, knowing just how heartbroken Rhys was at the same situation.
The difference was, Nyx hardly gave him a second glance- sprinting into the unfamiliar building with a new sense of reverence and promise of adventure.
“D-Daddy stay?” The boy became hopeful as Azriel shook his head, running a hand lovingly through his son’s inherited locks- a sense of pride and indescribable love overwhelming him at the sight.
Before he could come up with some semblance of comfort, Feyre saved the day. Pressing a wet kiss to her nephew’s cheek with an infectious smile on her warm face.
It wasn’t that she thought her own sister incapable, she just knew the poor woman was just as worried as Azriel.
Their forced smiles and glossy eyes hardly convincible even to a child.
“Hmmm, a little shadow told me that Uncle Cass has a surprise back home waiting for his best Spy…”
The boy paused, his little face red and besmirched with tears but an undeniable curiosity to his eye.
“Spies don’t cry Zekie!” Nyx chimed in as his mother sent him a gentle look of reprimand. “Come onnnnn, the faster we get home, the faster we get the suprise!”
“You like painting, don’t you Ezekiel?” Feyre continued, distracting the boy enough for him to perk up in curiosity, loosening his little balled fisted grip on his father’s leathers. “Would you like me to show you the art room?”
Azriel- albeit reluctantly, lowered his son to the ground, gently encouraging him towards Feyre who happily received his little hand in hers.
The Shadowsinger took his Mate into his arms as replacement, the loss of his son weighing heavy even on his own marred heart.
The boy had never once been out of their sight for so long.
And as Feyre guided him into the Nursery, her sister mouthing a watery ‘thank you’ as a tear cascaded down her cheek, Azriel couldn’t help but let one of his own slip as Ezekiel passed through the doors and out of his sight.
Hesitant in his little steps, but with his cousin there to help him along.
Just as Rhysand had done for his father.

─── Zenithara ───
─── G.H.O.S.T Ship ───
Anna was now sitting on a carrier ship that was going back to Sky City. Her team, Alpha team who were mainly led by Evan, surrounded her. Very soft music was playing in the background. To try and keep everyone calm. But also not loud so everyone could stay alert.
But the main thing she heard was soft talking between teammates and clicking of weapons. All were making sure their weapons were charged and loaded. Making sure they were all in the right holsters and secured.
Even after the team successfully retained the load of many innocent people that were kidnapped from Sector One, and were on their way to the Arena. The Arena now resorting to kidnapping people for the Killer games. Being that they were losing people from the Abyss. Well more so the Arena. Being that the justice system was moving and placing criminals elsewhere. Not wanting the Arena or Killer games to continue. Which led G.H.O.S.T. to have to step in and save the people they can.
Right now though Anna’s team was still on guard. Because the mission wasn't over just yet. They still needed to get these people safely back to Sky City. So they could get checked more thoroughly for injuries, and so they could give the justice system their statements on what happened to them.
The people they had saved were currently in med bay. People from Beta team trying to keep them calm, and helping them with any injuries they could. Along with the team mates who had been injured during the mission.
At the moment Anna was observing her surroundings with her now glowing gold eyes. Now being able to see clearly without her glasses, as she used one of her abilities. Her ability of enhanced eyesight. Which when she used such eyesight her eyes always glowed a golden color.
Right now she was watching everything around her on the ship. From behind her mainly golden, black, porcelain colored mask. That covered her whole face. The only thing that could be seen were her eyes. Other than that you couldn't see her face, nothing. Only her eyes.
In Anna's eyes it was a beautiful mask. It was gifted to her by Katrina many years ago when she was still in the Arena. A mask that was very precious to Anna. A mask that she took care of and kept in immaculate shape.
The top had golden and black intricate patterns that flared up slightly at the crown of her head. With amber and golden jewels that dangled on the side. Then at the middle of her head of the mask was an amber jewel.
The golden and black detailed patterns that went from the top of her head then curved under her eyes and over her nose. Around her eyes were black, the only thing that was seen were her eyes. The lower half of her face was covered by porcelain with a pair of golden lips painted on it.
Then around her neck was covered by black cover that had a few golden chains. It held up the mask and some mechanics that were connected to her mask. Her being the only one who knew how to use it. Knowing all the ins and outs of the mask. Having it for many years now.
The mask was one of Anna's prize possessions. Having her mask on was also one of the things she used to cope with everything. Her mask gave her a sense of safety and power. It concealed her from the world. Giving her the strength to persevere in Zenithara.
But most of all it kept her hidden. It hid who she was, hid her scars, her emotions, it hid Anna.
Which was something she loved. She loved to stay hidden. Anna seemed to love it so much that she wore her mask whenever she was around people. The only time she had it off was around Evan and his father. But sometimes it was still hard for her to take it off. The two though knew how to coax it off her and make her feel safe. They were the only two who could.
Though when Anna was alone. Mainly in one of her homes in the three Sectors or her own room, that was the only time she had the mask off. Not feeling safe but somewhat comfortable. It was when she swapped her mask for her glasses. Letting her eyes settle to their normal dark brown. But that rarely happened.
She was accustomed to having her golden gleaming eyes on display. She was accustomed to seeing everything in a more intense and enhanced way.
Though she had her glasses it couldn't compare to having her enhanced sight. And without either she was just blind. Only being able to see a meter in front of her. Which she didn’t like. It made her feel vulnerable, and she couldn’t stand that feeling. That was why she used her enhanced sight so much, most of the time.
But also with that she always has an ear out for anything as well. Having trained her hearing just as much as her eyesight. So, if anything happened she would be prepared in any way. It wasn't really hard with her being a high fae.
Though at one point her pointed ears caused her trouble while in the Arena. Doctors became more curious than ever over her, and wanted to experiment on her when they found her in the Arena. More than any other subject they had. They wanted to find out everything about her, and enhance everything. One of the things it led to was having a piece of her ears cut off. Leaving on the outer shell of her pointed ear to have a crescent type shape cut out.
Even after that inncident she stayed strong, it was hard but she kept going. It didn't deter her. But it did lead to her wanting to train her hearing to be sharper. Just as sharp as her heightened eyesight, when her eyes were glowing. So she could rely on her hearing if anything. Having done such a thing though caused her to have an advantage. With her eyesight and hearing. But also caused her to see and hear the world in a different way.
Just like now. Looking around once again she took everything in. The walls of the ship, the bags, the weapons, and the people talking and whispering. Who were her teammates. There were many who she noticed and recognized but few she didn't.
It caused her to sigh and lean further back into her seat. As she stayed to herself. She didn't want to interact nor be near anyone. Anna just wanted to get this mission over with and help where she could. Then go home. Maybe have a drink then escape into her art work.
When she wasn't on missions she was working on her art. It was another thing she used to cope. Through her art she brought Prythian her old world to Zenithara. She had walls upon walls covered with paintings of her old world, her old life. They were in all three of her houses.
Her favorite house was in Sector Two, Middle ground. She had dedicated the house to everything Night Court, or Velaris. Middle Ground gave her the most inspiration. Reminding her the most of her home Velaris somewhat.
In her house that was in Middle Ground there were murals all over. They were mainly paintings of places in Velaris. Like the mountains that surrounded Velaris, the stars, the House of Wind, the Rainbow, Rita's, and more. But there were also paintings of her family. One wall was dedicated to them. Cassian, Rhysand, Amren, and Morrigan.
Then there was a wall dedicated to one more person, a male. A male that she missed so much. That had a piece of her heart. A piece of her soul. A piece of her that she would never get back. He was someone she desperately wanted to not forget. He was someone so important to her. He was her mate... Azriel.
Over time, over the past fifty something years Anna has forgotten some of her old life, her old world. That was one of the reasons she drew and painted so much, it was so she wouldn't forget. Anna wouldn't say she had the most excellent memory. But she could remember some things. But the one thing or person she remembered the most about was Azriel.
Though there were things she had forgotten like his voice, his scent, the way his touch felt. It caused Anna to cry for days when she realized she had forgotten such things. But the things she could remember out weighted the things she couldn't. She believed it was because she drew him so many times over the years. It was so she could remember and keep the memories alive. To keep his memory alive and with her.
She could mostly remember what he looked like. Things like his tan skin that seemed to glow under the sun. His beautiful large strong black wings upon his back that he would use to fly. His clever shadows that wisped around him. His ebony hair that fell over his eyes. And his eyes.
His beautiful hazel eyes that could show nothing one moment, then another moment be filled with such raw emotions. He could take her breath away with one look. Anna missed those looks. She missed his intense hazel eyes on her. Anna missed Azriel so much. At times she found herself missing him the most.
A sad sigh escaped her lips. As her head and shoulders fell and her eyes closed. As she remembered Azriel. It took everything in Anna to not let her tears fall. To not let her emotions go everywhere and let her powers out. Being they were connected to her emotions.
It took a lot out of Anna this time to steel herself. And Anna noticed it. She noticed that it was becoming harder for her to keep doing such a thing. Because lately Anna... she was tired.
Anna was tired of hiding. She was tired of fighting. She was tired of losing people. She was tired of feeling lost. She was tired of this world. She was tired of it all. But Anna knew she had to keep going. Because she knew that many people would want her to keep going. Azriel, her old family in Prythian, Katrina, Eva, her nephews. Anna knew she had to stay strong.
Anna though didn't know how long she could go on. Because when it came down to it she was exhausted, lost, and alone. Yes, there were parts of Zenithara that were beautiful. And Anna may have or not seen them all. But if she was being honest with herself Anna just didn't care for Zenithara. Not as much as she cares for Prythian. Because even with more than half a century passing with her in this world Zenithara, she still felt so lost, and alone.
Even with Evan and his father. Anna loved her nephews very much and they helped her. But there was only so much they could do. They had their own lives, and unfortunately they would never understand her. Not what she has been through. Not what she is or who she was. No one would understand. But she still loved them for helping her.
Anna was soon shaken from such thoughts when she heard Evan. Catching her attention. She was soon looking at him with her golden eyes. She found him kneeling in front of where she was sitting. His crystal eyes were on her and filled with worry. As he gently placed his fingerless gloved cover hands over hers. He was quick to hold them when she didn't pull away from him.
"Hey. Are you okay?" Evan whispered softly to her. So only she could hear what he was saying. Knowing she could hear him. He didn't want to draw any attention to them. Knowing Anna didn't like the attention on her. He also didn't want her to feel uncomfortable. So he took to speaking low to her, and tried to keep her attention on him.
All Anna could do was take a deep breath and nod slightly. As she looked away from him. She didn't want to tell him her thoughts or problems. She didn't want to push her problems onto him. Nor did she want to burden him with her issues.
"I find that hard to believe. You know you can talk to me right Auntie Goldie?" Evan sighed sadly. Hearing him caused Anna to nod her head again. Which led him to send her a small smile. He wanted her to talk to him but didn't want to push her. So, he did what he and his father do all the time. Let her know they were there for her no matter what.
"Remember I'm always here for you Aunt Anna. No matter what you've got me. And you got dad too. I know it's hard and I don't know what you're going through. Just know you are not alone," he tried to soothe her. She was soon nodding her head as a sigh was heard from her. She then gently leant forward placing her head against his. She really appreciated Evan. He was so optimistic, kind, and caring. It made her smile. But her smile widened behind her mask even more hearing what he said next.
"After this mission, why don't I call up dad and all three of us can head to Middle Ground. We can meet at your place cause I know it's your favorite. Then you can tell us some stories or we can watch some movies or something. Have family time together. Just the three of us," Evan planned. He was soon chuckling with a wide smile. As he watched Anna nod quickly. She had leaned back and clapped her hands together gently to show him her excitement.
He knew that she was smiling by the look in her glowing eyes. That he's learned to read since he was young. He was happy to see she was excited for the plan, also happy he was able to lift her mood a bit. Nodding his head he agreed. Standing up he still had a hold of her gloved covered hand. He was then pulling her to help her get up from the seat.
"Alright it's a plan. I'll call -," Evan started. But he was abruptly cut off. Because soon he and Anna were falling back into the seats. Being jostled by the carrier ship shaking. It was as if something had hit the ship.
Which led everyone to be on guard and alert. Making themselves prepared for anything. Knowing it could be an attack. Evan was quick to grab the radio on his shoulder. Demanding the pilot to tell him what was going on. Asking if the ship was hit or if there was an attack.
"No attack. It seems we have been hit by something, sir. But umm... there is something we think you should see. We're not sure what it is," The co-pilot stammered unsure and seemed to be a little scared. A sigh escaped Evan before he answered.
"Okay I'm on my way."
"Everyone calm down for now but be on alert. You coming Goldie?" Evan ordered the team. Which he received a nod from many. He was then turning to ask Anna. She was quick to nod and followed him to the cockpit.
After a few minutes of walking they were in the control area. The pilot and co-pilot seemed to be whispering to each other. While one was pointing outside the window in front of them. It seemed they had stopped the carrier, keeping it hovering in place. Looking at each other Anna and Evan shrugged.
"What are you pointing at? And why have we stopped? We're still on a mission. We have to get these people back to Sector One," Evan questioned the two with a sigh. As he rubbed his face and crossed his arms.
He was starting to get frustrated because he wanted to get this mission done with. But he soon stopped when Anna placed a hand on his arm. Turning to her he was met with her golden eyes that were wide behind her mask. She was quick to point as she looked forward.
Evan was quick to turn to see what she was looking at. All he saw was a bright light in the distance. It looked like a ball of light or an orb. He was then stepping forward with Anna. Both trying to get a closer look. More so Evan. The orb was just hovering there in the middle of the sky in front of the ship. It was as if it were waiting for something.
"We don't know what it is or what to do. The reading signature from it is off the scale and unknown. And it seems every time we try to move it follows. The jostling you felt was us trying to move away from it. But it hit the ship. Then it started moving around us as if to observe us, to us it's like it's looking for something. We honestly don't know what to do," the pilot explained to Evan, not taking his eyes off the light.
"Do you think it's something from the Arena?" Evan asked the two. As he leaned forward on the pilot seats. Trying to observe the orb of light. Anna was in a state of wonder as she looked at the orb. So much so she tilted her head in confusion.
"Like I said sir we don't know what it is. The signature and energy coming off of it is off the scale and unknown. We tried to quickly go through the database, but still can't find a match. We wanted to know what you think we should do. Because it seems we can't move without it following or attacking. And I don't think you want that thing following us to our hidden headquarters. Nor attacking us," the pilot answered. Looking to Evan and Anna for the first time now.
"Shit," Evan whispered angrily. As he threw his head back and closed his eyes thinking on what to do. Nothing like this has ever happened before. So he was clueless on what to do. He was beginning to get a headache with how much he was thinking. Between this and the mission he was getting tired. He just wanted to get the mission over and have his family day with his father and Aunt.
But his thoughts were shaken. When he felt a small gloved hand grip his arm and pull him. Opening his eyes Evan looked to see it was Anna and was quick to follow her. After telling the pilots to keep him posted which they agreed to do. Anna was then pulling him just outside the room so they could talk.
"Let me take a look at it Evan," Anna reasoned with him with her soft voice. She could see that Evan was starting to get slightly overwhelmed. So she wanted to help him. Take some of the weight of his shoulders. Anna knew she was the only one who could get close enough to take a look at the orb of light. She also knew they needed to get past it and fast. So they could finish this mission and get the people who were kidnapped back home. She was pretty much the only one who could try to get this thing out of the way.
But hearing her Evan was quick to shake his head and disagree with her plan. He didn't want to put her in such danger. Not when they didn't know what it was, and never dealt with something like this before. He didn't want to send her in blind. He didn't want to lose his Aunt. The only real maternal figure in his life now. Evan was about to speak. But was stopped by Anna raising her hand gesturing to him to stay quiet. Which led Evan to sigh and stay quiet as he looked into her golden eyes.
"I only say this because I am the only one who can get close enough to it. And I can do it quickly. We are still on a mission Evan. We need to get these people back quickly. You know the longer we wait and sit here like sitting ducks isn't good. We are losing time. And the chance of someone from the Arena finding us is getting higher. So let me go and take a look at this thing. Let me see what I can do," Anna explained to him softly. It shocked Evan to hear her say so much in one sitting. But he shook the shock away.
Knowing now wasn't the time to think too much about such a thing. Taking in what Anna said Evan grunted in frustration. Because he knew she was right. He was then quick to look at the watch on his wrist. It caused Evan to curse under his breath because of the time. Time seemed to not be on their side right now.
Turning his gaze on Anna he looked into her shining eyes. Trying to see if he could read her. Trying to see if he could see any emotions. Anna's mask hid her very well. It hid all of her… but her eyes. Even then it was hard to read her still because she could hide her emotions so well. It was more so hard to read her when around people. Though when it was just them or her with his father she showed them her emotions. Showed them her emotions mainly through her eyes.
Other than that there was nothing else that she really did. As the years went on she talked less, and reached out less and less to them. Which worried him and his father a lot as of lately. But right now he looked into her gleaming eyes. He could see she was tired which worried him. Because it was a look that he sees more and more of over the time he’s spent with her. But he also could see a look of determination in her eyes right now.
It caused Evan to clench his jaw. Because he knew she was the only one who could do this. Looking at his watch again he growled slightly in frustration. He was then running his hands through his wavy hair and over his face. Before nodding at her. Agreeing with her plan. Looking at her with concern.
"Okay. You go out there and do what you can as quickly as you can. As you said we are still on a mission. You need to be as quick as possible. I'll make sure we keep an eye on you the whole time. If you want to you can talk to me while out there whenever. And if you need to get out of there, you get out of there. I mean it. We'll find another way if anything," Evan cautioned. Hearing his speech caused Anna to smile behind her mask. But she nodded nonetheless. To let him know she agreed and to ease his worries.
"Have some faith in your Aunt Goldie. I am around a hundred years old. I got some wisdom in me. And let's not forget I've been doing this longer than you," Anna joked as she pointed at him. Evan chuckled at her before opening his arms. Inviting her into a hug. Smiling behind her mask Anna giggled and walked forward into his arms. Throwing her soft arms around his waist.
He was quick to wrap his arms around her shoulders. Not wanting to let her go. Sighing Evan was scared for his Aunt. The one he was closest to. The one who has been there for him all his life. He was filled with fear for her because he didn't want to lose her.
But he knew that she was strong and smart. So he pulled away, letting her go. Having some faith in her. Looking down at her, he smiled with a nod. Kissing her masked cover head quickly before she could push him away. It caused Anna to giggle while Evan chuckled. Both of them were soon shaking their heads at each other.
Before Evan patted her arm and gestured for her to follow him quickly. Anna nodded and rushed to follow behind him. Both knew they needed to be quick. After a moment she realized he was leading her to a weapons vault room. More specifically hers and his that they shared.
Soon Anna was grabbing a few gadgets. Her hologram watch, an extra radio, a locator. Then grabbing the two golden guns that Evan held out for her. After making sure they were loaded and giving her extra clips. She rolled her eyes at him and shook her head. Seeing her Evan was quick to voice his worries.
"Hey there's nothing wrong with extra protection. Especially when your goin' in blind. I know you have your powers, magic, or whatever. But just take them to give me peace of mind. Please," Evan pleaded with her. Sighing Anna nodded and placed them in the holsters on her thighs. She never really liked guns or anything of that sort. She preferred her non mechanical weapons. But more so preferred her weapons that were made specifically for her.
Which were her short sword that was strapped to her back. Then her two daggers that were tucked into her long black boots. Then her lasso at her side. Then her knives that were hidden all over her. They were all specially made for only her and her powers.
So she could use the weapons as a conduit for her magic at times. The weapons could absorb small amounts of her magic’s essences. It made her weapons glow with heat depending on how much magic she stored in said weapon. They could burn through pretty much anything depending on how much magic was stored in them. It was another form of weapon she could use.
After Anna was done collecting her weapons with Evan's help. She was soon guided to the rear of the ship by Evan. Where the Alpha team was. They were looking at Evan and Anna with confusion.
"We've seem to have run into a problem. Gold here is gonna go out and take a look at it. We're going to be on stand by so if anything happens. Remember we are still on a mission. So, be ready for anything. Anything can still happen. While she is out we'll be keeping an eye on her from the monitors," Evan explained to them.
Going over what is happening with them. As he took out a small touch pad and pressed a few buttons on the screen. He swiped the screen and a large hologram monitor soon appeared on the wall. Showing the team what was outside in front of the ship blocking their way still. Many were shocked at the orb. Causing them to ask questions. Which led Evan to answer what he could.
"Alright that's it with the questions for now we're wasting time. We need to get this over with okay. Goldie, remember what I said. Take a look, do what you can, but if you need to get out of there. Get out," Evan declared. Leading the team to quiet down. He then turned to Anna.
Who nodded at his request. As she walked past everyone to get to the back opening. Waiting for the hatch to open. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath. Composing herself to fly, and preparing herself for anything. Evan sighed as he walked to the side of the opening reaching for the latch. Looking at her for a moment making sure she was ready.
"You ready?" Evan asked her. Opening her eyes Anna took another deep breath, nodded, and gave him a thumbs up. Seeing her make the gesture he sent her a nod.
"Alright be careful Aunt Anna. Remember we got our family night coming up," Evan reminded her with a smile. Anna giggled and nodded. Before pointing at the latch. Evan was hesitant but reluctantly pulled it. Opening the back of the ship, making wind blow and whip around them.
Looking at Evan one last time she sent him a small salute. Then before he could say anything else she ran forward and jumped out of the back of the ship. The last thing she heard was the team laugh. As Evan cursed at her for scaring him.
A laugh escaped her as she fell from the ship. But soon she found herself closing her eyes. Anna allowed herself to fall and feel the wind rush past her. Feeling the wind against her skin. She could feel the rush and sensation of falling. And enjoyed the feeling. Letting herself feel free. She wishes she could stay like this for a while longer. But Anna knew she had a task.
So sighing she opened her shining eyes. Feeling the power she had within. Soon a luminescent gold light appeared at her chest. As the light appeared so did the warmth. Feeling it Anna smiled and allowed the feeling to grow and wash over her.
Allowing her powers to engulf her whole. And soon a gold shimmering light surrounded Anna. She then stopped falling and was hovering in the vast sky. With a gold light shimmering around her, that was her magic. Wrapped around her like a blanket. Keeping her safe and in the air.
Looking around she saw the lights of the city above and below. Noting they would be going off soon because of the time. Then she found the carrier ship above her. She needed to get to the front of the ship, and check out this orb of light. Then try to move it. Nodding to herself she then willed her powers to carry her forward.
She smiled behind her mask as she flew through the sky. Loving the feeling of soaring through the air. With her task in mind she was quick to reach her destination. Which was the front of the ship. Looking over her shoulder at the front windows of the ship. She could see the pilots, a few of her teammates, and Evan. She shook her head and waved. Before turning and making her way towards the orb of light. She was growing closer and closer to the light.
Before she stopped abruptly. Her smile falling from her lips as a frown washed over her. The feeling it was giving off. It was a familiar magic. It was a magic she hasn't felt in such a long time from anywhere but herself. Even then her own magic seemed tainted. But this sort of power or magic was pure. And it was from her old life, from her old world Prythian.
"You okay Goldie?"
Anna heard Evan through her speaker ask. Quickly reaching for the comms on her mask. She was about to answer him and explain what was happening. When suddenly the air shifted around her. She then watched as the orb of light moved closer to her. She was quick to glide and move back but it kept coming closer to her. Anna had no clue what to do.
She kept slowly moving back more. Trying to keep a distance from the orb of light. That is until she heard it. A loud noise similar to the snapping of a whip and thunder. A noise that haunted her dreams. It was the same noise she heard when she was pushed into that portal by Amarantha. It caused her to stiffen in a state of fear. But the difference now was this time she was hearing it more than once.
She was quick to cover her ears. Feeling overwhelmed by the noises. All she could hear was the whipping noise mixed with loud thunder and Evan on the comms. She was quick to ignore them and pull herself together. And was soon trying to fly away as fast as she could. Anna only got so far when she felt the wind pick up around her. She could feel the magic that was controlling the wind. She felt the force of it against her powers. It caused a scream to escape her as she tried to keep a hold on her powers. As the wind pushed her closer and closer to the orb.
Tears began to fall from Anna's eyes as she tried to fight against the force. Anna didn't know how to feel. She knew that this may be her way home. And a part of her was hoping for it. But then another part of her was scared and filled with fear. What if this was just another portal to another world she didn't know? What if someone or even Amarantha was just playing with her and was sending her to another world?
It has been too long for this portal to just come out of nowhere and send her back to Prythian. It seemed too easy. Which meant it was most likely to send her to another world. That was the only thing that was coming to her mind.
It was what caused her to fight against the current. But it was no use, it was too much. Anna cried because there was nothing she could do to keep from going into the portal. And Anna knew that she needed to stop fighting so she could preserve her magic. So she wasn't defenseless in the next world.
Looking at the ship one last time. Anna could see her team rushing around through the windows. Seeming to try and find a way to get to her. They were all somewhat a blur to her. But the one she could see clearly was Evan yelling. More tears fell thinking of him. Evan and his father were going to be the only ones she was going to miss from this world. The only ones who she hasn't lost. In that moment she focused on Evan's voice that was coming through the comms. She could hear him yelling frantically through the comms. But the last thing she heard was his cry for her.
"Aunt Annamarie."

Chapter 6
After a silence, Luxiana, realizing that she was still not touching the ground, put her hands on Cassian's forearms around her and bent her neck backward to try to look at the Fae who was holding her in his eyes. Cassian lowered his gaze as he felt her move and their pupils collided, causing something to explode in Cassian's lower abdomen. Luxiana smiled innocently with all her teeth, fluttering her eyelashes a few times.
“Could you possibly grace me with your benevolence and release me to let me touch the ground again?”
Cassian smirked, his eyes shining with playfulness as he detailed her. He thought she was so beautiful, that the dimples that formed at every word she said were so adorable and the way she spoke was so cute he could have physically melted.
“I can, but I don't want to,” the Illyrian with the red Siphons simply replied, taking advantage of the closeness with his soul mate to detail her and enjoy the feeling of well-being that was bringing every cell in his body back to life.
Luxiana raised an eyebrow in surprise at the audacity of Cassian's answer. This fae had guts. She liked that. “Don't make me force you, Commander.” Her tone was playful and light, but an aftertaste of terrifying menace in the depths of her pupils made Cassian swallow hard, making him frown.
She was such an intimidating little woman. Cassian's smile widened before he reluctantly resigned himself to releasing her, raising his hands in the air beside his face in remission.
Luxiana smiled with pride as she put her foot on the ground. She took a step forward to distance herself from the imposing mass of the Fae behind her, to whom she had enjoyed being close to far more than she should have. Then she returned her gaze to Rhysand, who had tilted his head and detailed her with interest. She liked his piercing gaze.
“There are also things that don't deceive, you know...” she said, regaining her seriousness. “You had no reason to save Feyre after Amarantha's death, yet, even though she was your enemy's wife, you did it out of charity because you're not such a bad guy and then...you were alone. Under the mountain. You were alone and no member of your court was locked up with you, while the entire court of Tamlin had been cursed, and while the entire other courts were locked up with their lord, you, you were alone. I may not know exactly what you did, but I'm convinced you did it to protect those you cared about. I'm convinced you're a good person. And even if you're not...” She smiles. “...I'll protect you anyway. I'll protect you as much as I can in the hope that it might offer you a break, or just bring you some peace.”
Rhys took a step back, shocked. He was breathing. His heart beat with such force in his chest that it hurt, and his eyes burned. He was convinced he was ready to cry. After everything she'd just said, he felt like everything made sense. His whole life, everything he'd been through. It had all led to this moment, to her, and then all those horrors had been worth it.
The three Illyrians said nothing, only smiling tenderly as they approached the blonde. Their large bodies surrounded Luxiana's small body, but she was in no way intimidated. She detailed them one by one with her head bowed and a broad smile on her lips. Something felt right. Something made her feel good, at ease.
The same feeling that gave Cassian, Rhysand and Azriel the impression of having found their place. To have found something they'd been missing.
“You're very intelligent,” Azriel observed, gazing at her avidly from top to bottom, a hint of admiration shining in his eyes. This woman was intelligent and was very probably his soul mate.
Luxiana gave him a look of shining confidence that excited Azriel with a force far too insane. “Oh, you haven't seen anything yet, you know.”
This girl was mysterious and the three Illyrians loved and hated it at the same time.
Cassian was intrigued. He hated the idea that this woman didn't fall under his charm enough to reveal her whole life to him, but he loved the fact that the pretty blonde was a ball of secrets waiting to be discovered.
It was Rhysand who was the most frustrated. No one ever had a secret from him, not with his power and certainly not a human, yet Luxiana's mind remained entirely closed. So hermetically sealed that Rhys had never, for a second, been able to access her thoughts. Rhys thought she probably wasn't doing it on purpose, but this mental shield indicated that she didn't feel safe in his presence, and that hurt him slightly.
Azriel was good at understanding people and getting the answers he wanted; nobody had any secrets from him. Yet this girl never gave him any clues as to what kind of person she was, either in the way she acted or in what she said. He didn't know what to do with her. He hated to see people resist him, but he loved to see them capitulate.
The Illyrian with the blue Siphons slowly raised his hand to the blonde's face, giving her time to step back or prevent him from touching her, but she didn't move a millimeter, piercing him with two confident but intrigued pupils. Azriel's chest felt like it was on fire at the young woman's casualness. He delicately caught her chin in his hand, gently digging his fingers into her cheeks. He suddenly pulled her possessively toward him, Luxiana's chest colliding with his.
“No matter how much of a bastard Tamlin is,” he growled in a calm voice yet vibrating with anger and with cold authoritative eyes anchored in the blonde's, ”You must avoid provoking a high lord. You could have been hurt.”
Luxiana's gaze flashed with a barely perceptible glint of playfulness. She squinted as she detailed the blue siphon fae, trying to give herself the air of anger she should have, but the truth was that she was far too amused by these three Illyrians. And boy, what that one had just said and the way he'd pulled her towards him had been soooo sexy. Her heart was still beating wildly against her ribs. She couldn't hide her provocative smirk because, damn it, she liked to provoke.
“Yes, by the way, Spymaster, I don't remember to have authorized you or your brothers to stop me from beating up a Fae.” Her tone was condescending, and she didn't need to feign the bitter aftertaste in her mouth as her intonations twisted with anger. She hated it more than anything when someone thought they were stronger than her, or when someone stopped her from doing something. It was a clear lack of confidence on that person's part and a sign that he or she thought himself or herself superior to her, and she hated that.
Rhysand detected immediately from her words and the way she said them that she was angry. He had understood that she had taken their intervention badly and he would have liked to apologize, but the truth was that he wasn't sorry and would do it again at the first opportunity. He simply couldn't bring himself to see her hurt, but he understood that for her, their behavior didn't make sense, or at least not a very reasonable one.
Like Rhys, Cassian could only see one side of Luxiana's face, yet he was more than certain that she had a confident expression thanks to the charisma and confidence she exuded and which left no room for hesitation. He was more than admiring her, and his eyes sparkled as he detailed her. This small woman was surrounded by three Illyrians twice her size in length and breadth, whose reputations would strike fear into the hearts of the most hardened of men, but she didn't blink. Not even an ounce of doubt could be felt in her demeanor. Cassian was burning from head to toe.
Azriel gritted his teeth, anchoring his fingers a little more firmly into the skin of the young woman who wasn't even a little intimidated by his tone. He'd seen how her words and gesture had sent shivers down Luxiana's spine, and although he'd been seething with joy at the sight, he'd quickly become disillusioned at her provocative words. She hadn't 'allowed' him to save her life? A cold anger froze Azriel's vessels blood, making his whole body ache. He almost winced. She had no instinct for survival, blaming them for saving her, but above all, she was provoking him. She'd talk back to him and tell him she hadn't 'authorized' him to do anything. He was the one who authorized things, he was the one who was going to authorize things for her, and his whole body trembled with anticipation at the idea of making her assimilate this notion. At the idea of dominating her to teach her not to endanger her life.
Cassian leaned forward, his warm breath hitting the young woman's ear. “We kept you from ending up in tatters, my dear,” he said with a condescending smile as he noticed her shiver.
Luxiana felt her body and heart trembling. Her lower abdomen began to implode and burn with excitement. It was only a bodily reaction to Cassian's hot breath on her lobe, Azriel's possessive grip on her chin and the piercing purple gaze of Rhysand's side-tilted head, but it had to be said that she didn't want to fight her resentment either. She found them downright sexy and intriguing, even if they were Illyrians.
They were Illyrians. They hadn't shown any typically disturbing characteristics of their species so far, yet they were Illyrians. This thought made his eyelids twitch for a microsecond, which might go completely unnoticed or might appear to be a lack of magnesium, yet Rhysand noticed.
He instantly sensed her discomfort. The blonde's expression hadn't changed, but he'd felt it, he'd experienced it so many times over the last fifty years, and like her, he'd tried so hard to hide his weaknesses and discomfort, that he'd immediately noticed the sudden slight tension in her shoulders. He didn't know why she'd suddenly felt threatened, but he didn't like it. He liked it even less to see that the blonde's body had acted out of automatism to hide what she was feeling, which meant she must have picked up the habit as a child. The difficult childhood and the problems she must have gone through and which were foreshadowed by this behavior compressed Rhysand's stomach. He'd have to wait for her to talk to him about it, but in the meantime, as she still didn't move back, surely forcing herself to keep her composure in front of them, he gently took her by the shoulders to pull her towards him and away from his two brothers.
Azriel had to let go of Luxiana and glared at Rhys, furious that he had broken off contact with his soul mate. Cassian straightened up, also glaring at Rhysand, but with a confused expression.
Rhysand positioned her beside him and released her, even taking a step backwards to distance himself from her and give her some space.
Luxiana gave a questioning glance at the Fae high lord, staring at him for a second before squinting under the sympathetic gaze he cast at her. She understood that he understood. And understood then that he didn’t have an easy past either. She shook her head and took back her haughty face, directing her gaze back to Cassian and Azriel, whose hand was still raised in the air.
“The only one who would have ended up in tatters would have been him.”Luxiana no longer had to feign anger, now a little irritated by the behavior of the three brothers. She knew she wasn't very intimidating to behold, but she really was capable of the worst. She crossed her arms, squinting her eyes and furiously detailing the three of them.
The Illyrians stared at her for a second, seemingly out of time, and then realized. There, like that, with her arms crossed, her eyebrows furrowed, her nostrils dilated and her little expression of irritation, she was the cutest woman they'd ever met. She was so sweet and so innocent, she had no idea of the atrocities that could befall her and how dangerous this world was, and although an ounce of fear lingered in the guts of the three Illyrians, their hearts swelled with joy and pride in their chests at such cuteness. She was their soul mate. A wave of joy swept through them, so powerful that they had to laugh heartily, laughing out loud at the little blonde who frowned a little more.
“But yes we don't doubt it,” said Rhysand, patting the top of her head affectionately, but he froze for a microsecond, holding back a wince. Her hair was soft, damn it, how was it possible to have such silky hair?
He withdrew his hand hastily, suddenly realizing that he'd acted unconsciously and touched her when he'd found her uncomfortable two seconds before. He didn't know what had come over him, but she'd been so cute with her angry little face that his body had needed to touch her. Fortunately, it had been just that, he didn't want to make her uncomfortable by touching her in a way she might find inappropriate or that might upset her. But when Luxiana turned to him, glowering at him despite her flushed cheeks and an adorably vexed face, Rhysand had to focus every fiber of his body on stopping himself from pouncing on her and kissing every one of her freckles.
The blonde was seething with rage. They'd just treated her like a child. Oh dear, they were lucky their lord had saved Feyre, otherwise she'd have made them eat the floor for this behavior. She was about to speak up in her own defense, but stopped when she saw the faces of the three Illyrians change dramatically to become more serious. They stared at the door for a moment, before Azriel and Rhysand threw themselves out of the house without a word.
“What's going on?” asked Luxiana as she watched them leave the house. She took several steps forward, intending to run after them, but Cassian, who had stayed behind, caught her by the hips and lifted her to the opposite of the door, far away in the hall. He placed her on the ground and put her back against the wall, wrapping his large frame around her.
“Is that Feyre?” Luxiana worried, trying to free herself from the Illyrian's grip on her hips. “Let me go, I've got to join her.”
“Rhys and Az have gone to help her, don't worry,” Cassian reassured her, pinning her down a little more.
Luxiana's eyes widened. So something was going on and it had something to do with Feyre. Her heart began to beat wildly in her chest. She had to protect her. “What the hell is going on?? and Elain and Nesta?” She grabbed the Illyrian's wrists on her hips and put pressure on them to try and get him to let go, but he was far too strong for her to move him more than a millimeter.
“They're in the dining room. You're safe, I won't let anyone enter in the house.”
“I don't need to be safe. Let go of me,” Luxiana struggled even harder, trying to push him away with her hands pressed to his chest. Anger buzzed in her ears. Why was he preventing her from reaching her best friend and helping her?
Cassian almost took a step back under the unsuspected strength she had just shown, so he grabbed her wrists and pinned them to the wall beside her pelvis. He leaned his body over her, encircling the blonde a little more with his wings and preventing her from seeing further than his tall frame, bringing his face closer to hers.
He tried not to appear as disturbed by the young woman's proximity as he was. The Illyrian tried to hide the warmth spreading through his chest and body, but this was the first time he'd felt this way for a woman he'd only known for a few hours, and only because of a light touch of her breast or the simple vision of him holding her wrists. God, what he'd like to do to that woman against that wall, right now.
“If I let you go, do you promise not to run straight into danger?” he questioned in a hoarse voice, unable to take his eyes off the young woman's mouth.
“No, that's exactly where I'm going, but if you don't let go, I'll emasculate you,” Luxiana threatened with a dark look.
Cassian smiled. It had been a long time since someone had stood up to him like that.
“You don't want to hurt an attribute that could do you some real good,” Cassian proclaimed seductively.
Luxiana raised an eyebrow, then a smirk emerged on her face. She slowly approached Cassian, standing on tiptoe.
Luxiana could feel her eyes shining and she wasn't sure if it was desire or mischief, but her whole body was vibrating with excitement. She could easily have succumbed to that feeling of security he'd disarmed her with when he surrounded her with his body or even wanted to go further, but first she had to make sure Feyre was okay.
She brushed her lips against Cassian's, which elicited a grunt from the Illyrian whose body had just been struck by the contact. He had to use all his self-control not to fall over backwards. This woman hadn't even kissed him yet, he'd felt more with her than with any other.
Taking advantage of his moment of weakness and absence, and proud of her move, Luxiana deftly turned her wrist to release it from Cassian's grip. She then grabbed the brunet's forearm and spun around, taking his arm with her and draping it over her head. The Illyrian had to twist to the side, wincing under the pain, which created a small gap between his wings and the wall, large enough for Luxiana to pass through.
Cassian's eyes widened in surprise as he realized the empty space between him and the wall, where Luxiana wasn’t anymore. The blonde released his arm and ran towards the door. Cassian barely had time to blink and understand what had just happened that Luxiana had almost reached the outside.
She was about to open the door and run out, determined to protect her best friend, but the latter stormed back into the house. Luxiana stopped in the middle of the hall.
Feyre looked a little shocked as she entered the house. Her gaze was on her best friend, but she didn't seem to see her. Tamlin and Lucien were following her.
“Feyre,” Luxiana cried, throwing herself into her best friend's arms for a little hug. “What happened?”
“The Ator waited until I was alone to attack me,” she replied, regaining consciousness and throwing herself at Luxiana to wrap her arms around her and give her a hug back.
“The Ator? What's this? Are you all right?” Said Luxiana, placing her hands on Feyre's shoulders and detailing her up and down, making sure she was okay.
“It's a creature under the orders of Amaranta and the king of hybern now,” Lucien said in a deep voice, looking at Feyre with concern and at the black anger on his lord's face in the same way.
“Yes, I'm fine...,” Feyre breathed. “Thanks to Azriel and Rhysand.”
Luxiana first widened her eyes but then saw red as she turned back to Tamlin.“Weren't you with her?” she cried accusingly, with a hint of surprise.
For God's sake, Rhysand had once again saved her best friend, while Tamlin had no excuse this time. What would have happened if the Illyrians hadn't been there? She'd been so stupid, so careless to think that Feyre wasn't in danger here.
“No, we had a fight because of you!” growled Tamlin menacingly.
Luxiana froze and winced, guilt welling up in her chest. She could have lost her best friend over such a stupid thing. “Where are Rhysand and Azriel?” she asked.
“They took the creature home to interrogate it and find out why it was there,” Lucien explained.
“How did they know I needed help?” Feyre asked Cassian, turning to him.
“The Azriel’s shadows,” replied the Illyrian, arms dangling in the middle of the hall and who was still recovering from the emotions the blonde had just made him feel.
***
Cassian had received a telepathic order from Rhys to accompany Tamlin, Feyre and her sisters to post the letters to the queens and make sure it was done. Cassian did so, disappointed to leave Luxiana alone with Lucien. However, his disappointment turned to jealousy when he saw Luxiana laughing with Lucien once back in the mansion. Intense jealousy radiated through all his muscles, urging him to do something, urging him to stop the redhead from making his soul mate laugh, urging him to stop the redhead from hearing that melodious sound that was only his. Only theirs. How dare he make her laugh!
Without even being able to prevent it and acting on a strange instinct, Cassian directly sent the image of Luxiana sitting on the couch, laughing heartily with Lucien at her side, to Rhysand and Azriel. Cassian had absolutely no telepathic power and Rhysand was far too far away to be able to read his thoughts, yet Rhys and Az had received the image in their minds. Cassian had just sent the memory via a link between the three of them that had formed, defying time and space and of which they were not even aware until then.
Rhysand, leaning against the wall of the cell in which the Ator in front of him was being tortured, suddenly straightened up, receiving the image in his head. He frowned as he detailed the memory and even heard Lucien's laughter echoing in his mind mixed with the one of his soul mate. His chest tore with such violence that it physically hurt him. He frowned. She was only laughing with someone, yet it hurt him so much. But how did he receive this image?
Azriel froze, his knife planted in the Ator's thigh, kneeling in front of it. He widened his eyes, his gaze fixed on the pale creature, but not even seeing it, focused on the images of his soulmate laughing with this carrot bastard that appeared in his mind. His heart began to beat like crazy in his chest and a wave of frost crushed his limbs. How dare she laugh with someone else?
Rhysand glanced at Azriel in front of him and quickly understood from the glance that threw him back, that they had both seen the same thing and that they were both wondering how it was possible.
That said, all three of them quickly understood that it was the bond that now united them with their soul mate that allowed Cassian such a thing and that now bound them three in a completely different way. If it was real, it was a bond that would be very useful to them in the future to protect, love and cherish their mate, they were sure of it, but in the meantime they were burning with rage, pain and jealousy.
That said, 2/3 of these emotions were not theirs. This jealousy that they felt and that suffocated them, really preventing them from breathing, was mainly Cassian's. The rage that consumed them from top to bottom by making them tremble was mainly Azriel's. But the pain that tore their hearts from their chests was mostly Rhysand's.
The three brothers had always reacted differently to problems, they thought differently, they felt differently, and today the bond that united them allowed them to become one and feel what the other two felt. Only, it was complicated. The faes felt more intensely when it concerned their soul mates and the Illyrians were known for having trouble controlling their emotions. On top of that, today, they also had to feel those of their brothers and experience everything multiplied by three.
Azriel had removed his weapon planted in the Ator's thigh and had turned robotically to face the cell door. He began to walk towards it in a tense manner, smiling, imagining all the horrible things he was going to do to Lucien. He was going to fly there, join them, and he was going to rip the ears off that bastard who had been able to hear the melodious sound of his soulmate's laughter.
Rhysand turned too, ready to follow Azriel. He knew that what they were about to do was wrong but he simply couldn't reason with himself and calm down. Not when he wasn't the only one to reason with and calm down.
"Am I interrupting something?" Cassian had spat, shooting Lucien with his brown pupils, being the only one who could act, his two brothers being for the moment still at the Night Court. He would have liked to be angry and kill Lucien but when Luxiana turned to him, jumped up and down with joy at the sight of him and started explaining to him what she had said to Lucien to make him laugh, he calmed down. He hadn't even listened but she spoke to him with such joy that he relaxed uncontrollably. And the other two too.
Azriel and Rhysand both stopped in front of the cell door, ready to go out, seeing in their minds Luxiana talking cheerfully to Cassian, almost ignoring Lucien at her side. They were able to take a deep breath, realizing the insane anger that had boiled in their bodies two seconds before. And although an aftertaste of anger, jealousy and pain remained in their guts, it was now less urgent to kill the redhead. They turned back around and resumed their activity, calmed down. They told themselves they could wait a little before killing Lucien.
Azriel had then been able to gratuitously and more violently plunge one of his blades into the Ator, taking advantage of the outlet it offered him.
Rhysand no longer even took pleasure in watching the creature suffer despite what it had done to him, his mind too focused on torturing him by playing the sound of his soulmate's laughter mixed with the one of another man.
Despite everything, they were a little calmer.
After that, the Faes at the Archerons’ domain had been able and had to leave. Cassian had kissed the back of Luxiana’s hand to say goodbye and after a last wink, he had flown away, fighting against the worry that took place in his heart and that told him to stay by his soulmate’s side.
Cassian was somewhat disappointed not to be able to spend more time with her, but the irritable mood of these two brothers told him that they were even more disappointed not to have been able to say goodbye to her. They would have liked to bring her back to Velaris to keep her close to them, but with the war against Hybern looming and all the things they had to do, it was not the right time, especially not for a fragile human who would be in danger.
So all three of them did not know when they would be able to see her again, doubting that they might not see her again for a long time, and this realization hurt their feelings in a way that was completely new to them. Especially since no matter what they did, they could not get her out of their heads.
Luxiana's face, her hair, her perfume, her smile, her curves, her voice, all dragged through their minds with such vehemence that they had almost become zombies unable to concentrate on anything but her.
The only times they were not absent, diving into their thoughts, was when they talked about this girl among themselves or to Mor.
Morrigan had wanted to see her. Meet the woman she was a little jealous of and who had managed to capture Azriel's attention, who had won Cassian's loyalty and made Rhys smile again in just a few hours.
Rhys only smiled when he thought of her or talked about her. He had never felt that before. This strange way of having only one person in his head all day long with such irreversibility that it had chased away all other thoughts. Including the bad ones, including memories. There was only her and without even knowing it, she was doing him good. His body was pushing him to find her as if he needed her to live. So Rhys had sworn that at the first opportunity, when things were calmer, he would go find the Suriel and then, when he had confirmed to him that she was indeed their soul mate, he would go find Luxiana.
Azriel detailed Morrigan. He detailed her as he used to do before Luxiana but now it sounded false and wrong. He had remembered the existence of Rhys' cousin and what he had felt for her for five hundred years when he saw her in the dining room but he no longer felt anything special for her. Not after laying eyes on his soul mate. He had even come to wonder how he could have been obsessed with Morrigan for so long when Luxiana was there, outside. He didn't know why this girl obsessed him so much... Well yes, he knew and he also knew why it was so strong but damn, he could have done anything to see her again just for a second. He needed the light that this girl brought him and her amazing way of making his shadows flee by shining.
Cassian was boiling. He was irritable like never before. He had tried sleeping with women to calm down and try to stop his brain from thinking about Luxiana, but his body had just refused to feel aroused. His body even gave him the impression to be disgusted by all the women he met by giving him a strong feeling of revulsion even the most beautiful of them, he no longer found them attractive. Cassian would have almost believed he was sick if he did not have an erection every time he thought of Luxiana, that is to say almost constantly since he had met her. Every cell of his being called him to do obscene things to Luxiana and apparently desired only her. He had to explore and discover every corner of the skin and mind of the beautiful blonde who haunted his thoughts.
In the meantime, the three Illyrians threw themselves into their work, eager to finish as quickly as possible, at least until they had to go to the Archerons to find out if they had received a response from the queens.

Daylight pt 7
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6
Cassian x f!reader
AN: Sorry this took so long! I was working on other writing projects, and this was put to the back burner, but i hope you still enjoy it!
Also, if you like this, i am writing an OC/Helion/Azriel story over on Ao3 called A Court of Myth and Rain :) Go check it out!
Summary: The fall out from dinner
Warning: talk of illness and death
Word count: 1336
“What the hell was that?” Cassian hissed at Mor while she pretended not to see him and continued idly drinking from her glass of wine; as if she hadn't just pulled a truth from you that had shaken him to his core.
“Y/N is in the garden with Elaine and Feyre is putting Nyx to bed,” Rhysand slipped his hands into his pockets as he entered his office where Cassian had all but dragged Mor after she released you from her power. It had terrified him to realize what she was doing to you. How even after he'd told her to stay out of it, she'd still taken it upon herself to force you to tell everyone things you clearly weren't ready to talk about. Even more than that, it absolutely broke him how you simply shut down once she let you go. How your eyes went vacant and your face remained blank. Every tear that slid down your cheek was like a knife to his gut, and he planned to make the female in front of him answer for everyone.
“I did you a favor,” Mor kept her face impassive as she finished her glass. “Now you know what she was hiding. You said it was bothering you.”
“I said she wasn't a problem,” he crossed his arms over his chest. “I told you to leave it alone.”
“You said there was something off about her,” she pointed out with an arched brow. “I've never known your instincts to be wrong, so I decided to get to the bottom of it.”
“The problem Mor,” Rhysand stepped in as Cassian released a growl of frustration, “is that Y/N is not a threat, she never has been and your use of your power to force her to reveal her private information is more than just a betrayal of Helion as our ally. You violated her.”
“I protected this family,” she seethed at him, “Something you seem incapable of doing lately. I will not apologize for making sure she wasn't going to slit Cassian's throat in his sleep. Or destroy the library with all the Priestesses still in it. You just let her into our home, Rhysand. A stranger who could destroy everything-”
“This is about Keir?” Cassian demanded, cutting her off. “Seriously, Mor? You did that to an innocent female because Rhys made a deal with your father?”
“He has nothing to do with it,” she growled as the glass in her hand shattered to pieces.
“Regardless,” Rhysand's lips were a tight line as he looked at his cousin. “Y/N has been a trusted advisor for Helion and his father before him for more than three hundred years. I've been aware of her existence since before Under the Mountain, even though I'd never met her before a few weeks ago.”
That made Mor pause, her eyes softening just a touch, “You have?”
“I have,” he confirmed, his voice hard and expression tense. He simultaneously looked guilty that Mor was still so angry at him and equally furious that she used her gifts on you. Forced you to tell a truth you did not want to share. Not yet.
Mor's frown shifted into a look of regret, “I didn't know.”
“No, you didn't,” Rhysand sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Where do we go from here?”
“I have to talk to Y/N,” Cassian crossed his arms over his chest. His wings tucked in tight as he looked at his High Lord.
Rhys nodded, “Make sure she's okay and if she's not,” violet eyes flicked towards Morrigan and back again “get her whatever she needs.”
“Handle this, Rhys,” Cassian's tone was low, a warning.
“Take care of her, Cassian.” There was no warmth in his brother's voice. The voice of the High Lord.
Without another word, the Illyrian turned and left the room. The moment he was alone in the too quiet hall, he felt the world slip out from under him. She was sick. Y/N was sick. And she didn't know if it was worth it to try and fight her disease or if she should just let it kill her. He didn't know how to process it. How to comprehend it. The fae did not get sick like humans did. Succumbing to seasonal viruses or a chill that sets into their bones. Fae illnesses were lethal, nearly every time.
Y/N was sick. It was nearly a guarantee that she would die, and Cassian could do nothing to stop it - to save her.
He didn't know why the news gutted him as it did. He didn't know why he felt like he was falling without beginning or end and that cruel darkness was swallowing him whole. He didn't know when this mystery female made of sunbeams and a gentle breeze had become whatever she was to him. He didn't know when she had shifted from a mere curiosity to something integral.
Elaine appeared before him. Brown gold curls and fawn colored eyes filled his vision as she placed a soft hand on his cheek and wiped away a stray tear that had trickled down his face.
“Pull yourself together,” she ordered, her voice sounding nothing like the gentle female he’d come to know. It was enough to startle him from the spiral his thoughts had taken him in. He blinked at her, and she held his gaze. “She has enough to deal with. Don't make your emotions her problem.”
Cassian nodded, and she dropped her hand as he wiped his eyes clear of tears. Once he'd regained his composure, he looked to the middle Archeron sister who studied him closely before seeming satisfied. She handed him a hot mug of tea and gestured towards the doors that led to the garden still blooming thanks to her careful dedication.
Taking one more calming breath, Cassian pushed open the doors to where you were sitting in a lowback chair. Your eyes were wide and clear as you watched the stars twinkle. Your hands were clasped together in your lap, and your head was tipped back as the lights seemed to dance and shine for you even as you sat so still below them. Your skin glowed faintly in the dark, a flicker of gold that had the flowers around you leaning in as if to drink in the daylight you brought with you wherever you went.
Cassian went still to see you there. An angel with broken wings. Fallen star longing for home.
“Are you going to stand there, General, or are you going to join me?” Your voice was low and breathy, as if you were exasperated by him, and he felt something sink in his chest.
“I brought you tea,” he answered you slowly as he set the mug in your hands and sat down in the seat beside you.
“Thank you,” you whispered. Your voice was still as brittle and broken as it had been when Mor had pulled the truth from you against your will. You didn't blame the female. You understood why she did it. If someone was a threat to the people you loved, you would burn the world down before you let a hair on their head be harmed. That didn't mean you were okay with it. You felt betrayed and violated, and it would be a long time before you could face the female that had done this to you.
“Y/N…” Cassian started but trailed off as his gaze met yours. His eyes were so sad, so unsure as he tipped his head to the side and searched for something to say. Anything to fill the silence.
You sighed deeply and turned back towards the sky. “Look at the stars, General.” You let the ghost of a smile pull at the corners of your lips as you spoke, “Look how they shine.”
Cassian obeyed. Turning his head to the night sky that enveloped you, he looked up, and together, you watched the stars shine.

ACOSM | The Night she made Azriel lose control
azriel x rhysand's sister (oc)
warnings: angst, smut or at least my attempt at it lol
summary: Valeria is sparring with Cassian and Azriel when Rhysand invites her to the gathering of the High Lords of Prythian. The night is tortorous for Azriel, who can no longer hold himself back and finally gives in to his desire.
A/N: this is an imagine among my collection that follow Rhysand's sister, Valeria. while I'm still working on them, you can find the masterlist for it here. This is my first time writing smut, which is why this took me forever to write. I even readchapter 55 of ACOMAF a couple of times again for "research purposes" lol Anyway, besides the smut, lots of stuff happen in this imagine and more ACOTAR characters make an appearance!
**
Valeria sat atop one of the training rings at the House of Wind as Noctis soared above her. In the brilliant sunlight, his dark wings glistened and she smiled at the sight. She always found joy in seeing him fly, his smaller scarred wing not deterring his perseverance.
She hummed a familiar melody and Noctis was quick to catch the tune, his beautiful song intertwining with hers. Setting aside the book Cassian had gifted her on Illyrian fighting techniques, Valeria perked up at the sound of another set of wings beating in the air.
It had been nearly half a year since the blood rite and Rhysand’s grand ball. So much had changed in that time. The news of two bastards and a half breed ascending to the title of Carynthian had sent shockwaves throughout Illyria, and perhaps even throughout most of Prythian. The revelation that both Cassian and Azriel were gifted with seven siphons each only added to the astonishment. Rhysand, too, had been gifted with siphons, though they had shattered, unable to contain his immense power.
Shortly after the grand ball, Cassian had returned to the Illyrian camp he was born, eager to reunite with his mother. Their separation had weighed heavily on his heart over the years and he had been looking forward to seeing her and taking care of her. However, when he arrived at the camp, he was met with devastating news. His mother was dead. The news had hit him like a physical blow and even more so when he found out the true nature of her death and lack of respect in burial. It left him reeling with an overwhelming grief and sorrow that quickly morphed into anger and a thirst of revenge. With the help of Rhysand and Azriel, they took revenge on his mother’s cruel death and destroyed the village, allowing only the truly innocent to live.
The High Lord of the Night Court did not take lightly to their actions. Valeria suspected that the remarkable power they held posed a potential threat to her father, especially with Rhysand being his most likely heir. In the weeks that followed, the High Lord assigned Rhysand a growing number of responsibilities as his designated heir. He offered Azriel the role of spymaster–a proposition that didn’t leave him with much room for refusal. Cassian, on the other hand, had returned to Windhaven, and swiftly climbed the ranks, now commanding a small legion of his own.
With all the changes and increased duties, it came to a surprise to Valeria that Cassian remembered the promise he had made prior to the blood rite. She had diligently studied the book he had gifted her, mastering nearly every technique within its pages. She still did so behind her father’s back. It was not an easy task as he hovered over her for the first couple of weeks after her return to the Night Court. This made it challenging to discreetly train with the Valkyries as she enjoyed doing so.
So Valeria dedicated herself to playing the role of a dutiful daughter with the hopes that it would divert her father’s attention from her training and secrets she held. It was a difficult one as he still held resentment toward her. She immersed herself in music, spending countless hours practicing her violin despite her preference for the piano. It paid off, as her father’s interest in her began to wane and as she resumed her violin lessons, she found it increasingly easier to slip away for her secret training sessions.
“Alright, little warrior.” Cassian grinned as he touched down in front of her, his wings tucked behind him. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”
Valeria smiled back at him, her eyes searching his face. She knew the past couple of months had been challenging for him yet he always managed a smile and optimistic attitude, masking the underlying sadness and grief he carried. He was one of the strongest people she knew–both physically and mentally.
“I didn’t get to train last week since I had an audition for a violin solo, so I’m a little rusty.” Valeria confessed as she patted the dust off her leathers.
“Did you get it?”
A spark of triumph glittered in her eyes as she replied. “Of course I did.”
Cassian’s grin grew wider. “Well then, I guess I’ll have to push you harder this morning.”
The training grounds were bathed in the glow of the morning sun as Cassian and Valeria stepped onto the training ring. She looked up to him with determination in her eyes and Cassian respected her spirit as he began to wrap his hands. “Let’s practice without weapons first and focus on hand to hand combat which is about…”
“Control, balance and swift strikes.” Valeria answered, reciting an excerpt from the book word for word and wrapping her own hands to prepare for sparring.
“Yes.” Cassian nodded at her as he stepped into a defensive stance. “Watch me closely and then we’ll practice together.”
He demonstrated a sequence of moves, fluidly shifting from one stand to another. Valeria followed his every move, memorizing the steps.
“I know you’ve already had some training with this but let’s start with the basics again. I’m going to make a move and you try to block or evade it.”
Cassian then made the first move, a precise jab toward her shoulder. Valeria reacted quickly, dodging the blow with ease and responding with a counterpunch. Cassian deftly blocked her attack, impressed with her reflexes.
“Good.” Cassian said with another nod of approval. “Keep that focus and speed.”
They continued the training session as Noctis watched, perched on one of the punching dummies nearby, his sharp eyes on his beloved keeper. As always, Cassian was patient in training Valeria. He showed her how to anticipate her opponent’s moves, find openings in their defenses and land precise strikes. Valeria was a quick learner and with each round of practice, her confidence grew.
As they exchanged blows, Valeria saw an opportunity. Her speed and precision was nearly overwhelming, catching the seasoned Illyrian warrior by surprise for a faltering moment. Just when it seemed like Valeria was gaining the upper hand, he intentionally left himself open. Valeria, driven by the thrill of the movement, lunged forward with a punch. Her first met its target but Cassian, with a wly grin, grabbed her arm and twisted, sending her tumbling to the ground.
She landed on her back with a huff, her chest heaving from exertion.
“Never underestimate your opponent.”
Cassian’s eyes twinkled with amusement as he looked down at her. She was already drenched in sweat, her muscles aching and struggling to catch her breath. He held his hand out toward her which she begrudgingly took. He did not look nearly as winded as her.
“Now, get up, my little warrior. We’re not done quite yet.”
“Not done?” Valeria echoed in dramatic horror.
“It’s my turn now.”
Valeria’s head whipped around, feeling dizzy for a moment, but her eyes quickly found their way to the hazel ones she had missed so dearly.
Azriel.
He was also dressed in his Illyrian leathers, his cobalt blue siphons catching the sunlight. His presence, as always, made her heart flutter. The longing she felt for his company was undeniable. She hadn’t seen him in weeks. He was preoccupied with the duties her father assigned to him and if it wasn’t the High Lord calling upon him, it was Rhysand, leaving little room for private moments together.
Cassian and Azriel exchanged nods in silent greeting. Azriel then turned to her, his lips curving into a smirk. His eyes raked over her form as his shadows swirled around him in excitement and his large wings unfurled behind him. He looked at her with a mixture of pride and a hint of longing.
She felt like he was undressing her with his eyes.
“Cauldron boil me,” Valeria cursed under her breath.
Cassian chuckled.
Azriel maintained his composed demeanor and gaze fixed on her, his smirk remaining unfaltering. He, too, had likely heard her choice of words and judging by the way his shadows whirled around him, he must’ve sensed the hidden meaning behind them.
He finally took his eyes off of her as he approached the weapons vault. “Where are you in your training with the Valkyries?”
Valeria considered the question for a moment before replying, "We've moved on to sparring with actual weapons."
Azriel's hazel eyes lit up with interest as he selected two swords from the vault, flinging one of them toward her. Valeria caught it with ease, though with a slight frown.
She much preferred daintier weapons such as a dagger or her whip. Zeila, her valkyrie trainer, had rewarded her with the elegant rope-like weapon for her remarkable progress. Crafted from pure silver and adorned with moonstone gems, it matched the necklace around her neck.
At first glance, it appeared delicate, but when the moonstone gems were ignited by her power, it became a dangerous weapon capable of burning through those who dared to cross her. Valeria had glamored the whip to resemble a wrap-around bracelet when not in use.
Azriel and Valeria stood facing each other, a palpable tension filling the air as Cassian sat on a bench nearby and watched. Much to his dismay, Noctis made himself comfortable atop of his head.
Valeria was the first to make a move, moving with a fluidity that surprised him. As they sparred, Valeria showed off her skills, seamlessly combining the precise strikes of the Valkyries with the fierce, aggressive style of the Illyrians. Azriel observed with growing admiration, impressed by her quick adaptation and her ability to execute the intricate maneuvers.
Their swords clashed, the sound ringing through the rooftop, and with a deft flick of his wrist, he managed to disarm Valeria. His experience and training outmatched hers but Valeria was not one to give up easily.
In a swift and practiced motion, she extended her arm, bringing the rope-like weapon to life. Azriel’s eyes widened for a flickering moment as he readied his sword but Valeria was too fast for him. Within seconds, her whip wrapped around Azriel’s wrist, forcing him to release his sword, the sharp piece of steel clattering to the ground. She grinned triumphantly as Cassian whistled in approval.
Azriel stumbled back, momentarily disarmed, until he saw an opportunity and seized it. He took advantage of the weapon wrapped around his wrist and pulled on it, throwing her off balance, sending Valeria stumbling forward. She was not able to catch her footing on time and both her and Azriel tumbled onto the ground.
Azriel swiftly gained the upper hand, pinning both her wrists by her head as he straddled her. He smirked down at her. "I got you."
Her violet eyes glittered back up at him and then she was shifting her hips up, wrapping her arms around his torso. She trapped his legs with her own and mustered up all the strength she could to roll over just as Cassian had taught her. One moment Azriel had been straddling her and in the next moment, it was Valeria hovering over him. The dagger that had been strapped to her thigh was now pressed against his neck.
“Never underestimate your opponent.” Valeria said, her voice breathless but triumphant as she quoted Cassian's words from earlier.
Azriel blinked back up at her, his pupils dilated. His gaze flickered down to her lips before locking with her gaze. Blood rushed up to her cheeks as she remembered the last time she had straddled him. It seemed so long ago and just as it had before they shared their first kiss, the world around them faded into the background, leaving just the two of them. She dared to lean down–
A boisterous laugh shattered their trance, snapping them back to reality.
Valeria removed herself from Azriel. He was the first to get up, offering his scarred hand to her. His shadows slithered down his arms and toward her, reaching out to caress her face in a way he yearned to himself as he pulled her up with him. They turned to an amused Cassian who offered a round of applause for Valeria.
“I’m so proud of you.” He told her. “Keep it up and you’ll be a Valkyrie in no time.”
Valeria’s heart swelled. “You really think they’d let me in?”
“Of course.” It was Azriel who replied.
She was smiling at the two Illyrian warriors when she felt a talon gently caress her mind. She allowed her brother in, who wanted to know where she was. Her smile fell and the two males looked at her in concern.
“Rhys is coming,” she said in warning at the same time she gave her brother her location.
With practiced ease, Valeria used her powers to glamor and remove the telltale signs of her recent training session–the sweat-soaked training gear and leathers were replaced with a simple black dress. Noctis returned to his usual place on her shoulder. She had just enough time to glamor Cassian and Azriel as well to paint out the illusion of them sparring.
Rhysand was still unaware of her extensive training as she had sworn both males to secrecy. While her brother did keep his promise in teaching her how to use the dagger they all gifted her, it was nowhere near enough to explain the advanced skills she had just displayed.
Azriel glanced down at his shirtless body and arched an eyebrow at her. A devious glint flickered in her eye as she smirked back at him with an appreciative gaze. The tattoos adorning his upper body, a mark of his emergence as a true warrior from the Blood Rite, were a sight to behold. She wondered for a brief moment what it would be like to kiss them as she dangerously trailed her way down…
Cassian seemed to be unfazed by his shirtless form, picking up the sword Valeria had been using, eager to get into character.
Rhysand emerged from a cloud of swirling darkness. He smiled fondly at Valeria in greeting before acknowledging his two closest friends. “I didn’t know you two were sparring today,” he commented.
Cassian responded with a cheeky grin, "Just releasing some pent-up frustration, Rhys." He turned to Azriel, a cryptic look in his eyes, sensing something in the Shadowsinger he was strangely familiar with. "Right, Az?"
"Without me?" Rhysand teased.
Azriel glared at Cassian before turning to Rhysand. "I'm sure Cass still has energy."
Rhysand's brows furrowed. He chose to brush off their strange behavior, not wanting to delve into it further. "It's alright," he said, waving a hand dismissively. "I'm actually here for Val."
Valeria turned to him, her curiosity piqued.
"I need you to be ready by dinner. The High Lords are gathering at the Moonstone Palace for dinner, and Father requests our presence."
Valeria's eyes narrowed as she met her brother's gaze. She had her doubts that it was truly her father who had called for her presence, and judging by Rhysand's cheeky grin, she knew he had played a role in her being allowed to attend. Despite her skepticism, she nodded in agreement.
"I'll be ready."
**
The dinner among the High Lords of Pyrthian, their families and entourage was uneventful save for the mention of growing unrest between the mortals and fae. There were reports of some fae enslaving mortals–a matter that had drawn the attention of the High Lords.
Surprisingly, the High Lord of the Night Court appeared indifferent to Valeria’s presence at the dinner. A small victory.
Though she couldn't shake the feeling of being the odd one out as she was the only daughter to a High Lord present. She was grateful for Rhysand and Azriel, who sat on either side of her as Noctis–her usual companion–had to stay behind. Cerridwen and Nuala offered to take care of him for the night.
The two males beside her watched over her, their protective presence enough to deter any unwarranted attention from the other attendees, especially the eldest sons of the Autumn and Spring court. Mor and her family were also present at the dinner, the first offering Valeria a sense of familiarity and warmth, but unfortunately, she sat far from her.
As the dinner came to a close, her mother, who sat across from her, sent Valeria a reassuring smile. With the main meal completed, the guests began to disperse into smaller groups, with alcohol and light desserts served for those who remained. Valeria took a moment to collect herself, her violin resting on a soft chair nearby. She picked it up and positioned it with care, knowing that her presence at the dinner came at a cost – the entertainment she could provide with her violin.
With a sigh, she began to play, the graceful notes of her violin filling the room and carrying a sense of melancholy and beauty. The Night Court’s orchestra arrived, a couple of songs later, providing a welcome respite. She smiled at them in greeting and they regarded her warmly, having grown fond of her over the past six months.
“That was excellent.” A voice praised.
Valeria looked up, eyes widening as they landed on the High Lord of the Dawn Court. Thesan. His aura radiated like gold, his brown skin and hair kissed with the permanent brilliance of sunrise.
“You’ve grown into a wonderful young lady.” His gaze was warm as he regarded her. He remembered the last time he had seen her, when she was just six years old.
Valeria recalled the memory clearly as it had been a slightly embarrassing incident when she had injured herself after chasing Rhysand around. He had snatched the last lemon cake and laughed in her face. Thesan had been the one to heal her injured elbow with a gentle touch while her father glared at her. She wondered if her father had also been embarrassed by her behavior that night as she hadn’t been allowed to attend a High Lord gathering until tonight.
“Thank you.” Valeria replied, her head bowed in appreciation.
“I’m sure your father is proud.” Thesan added, casting a meaningful glance toward her father, who had now joined them.
His gaze, though still somewhat distant, was not as cold as he regarded his daughter.
“She has an upcoming solo in a month.”
Valeria blinked at her father, surprise etched on her features.
“What a shame,” Thesan lamented, his tone sincere. “I’m hosting a celebration for my Peregryns in a month. I would’ve loved for you to play for them.”
Valeria’s father hummed and she picked up on the hint. She excused herself politely. Though she knew her father’s attitude was likely a result of Thesan’s presence, she couldn’t help but feel a glimmer of hope at his acknowledgement.
Valeria made her way to the desserts table, gravitating toward the chocolate covered fruit. As she savored the delightful taste of a chocolate covered strawberry, her gaze swept the room, searching for her brother amidst the sea of faces.
“Well, aren’t you a lovely little sweet.”
Startled by the sudden presence behind her, she jumped slightly before turning her head to find the source of the voice. Her gaze fell upon a red-haired male, whose amber eyes watched her intently. He held an air of arrogance and entitlement as he extended his hand toward her.
“Would you care to dance?” He inclined his head to his left, where couples where swaying to the music.
“I’m busy.” Valeria replied, referring to the dessert in her hand.
She glared as he plucked the strawberry from her hand and popped the remaining piece into his mouth, all while sporting a smirk that seemed to mock her. He took her hand, without asking again, and led her to the dance floor.
His hand rested dangerously low against her back and was hot as it met her bare skin. The dress she chose tonight was a blue mermaid gown with a plunging neckline and open back design to accommodate her wings but she had chosen to glamor them.
There was a fire in his eyes as he looked over her and Valeria’s lips curled into a smirk of her own. She had seldom experienced the sensation of being desired. The Illyrians in Windhaven had steered clear of her after her fling with Damien–if one could even call it that. The three Illyrian males in her life were fiercely protective, effectively warding off any potential suitors.
But here, things were different.
Though her heart longed for the desire of a specific male, she couldn’t deny the pleasure of feeling desired by others.
At that moment, recognition dawned on Valeria. The devilishly handsome male dancing with her was the eldest son of the High Lord of the Autumn Court and if the rumors in Prythian were true, he was in search of a bride.
“You must be Eris.” She said, her tone cool and composed.
The fire in his amber eyes was unyielding as he spun her around. His movements pressed her back against his chest, and he leaned down, his breath tickling her ear as he whispered: “I’m honored you know my name, sweets.”
With a twist, he spun her back around to face him, catching the crinkle of her nose in response to his nickname with a dark chuckle.
“It’s Valeria to you.” She corrected him with a firm tone.
Eris paused, his eyes set ablaze at the challenge, as he teased her further. “Valeria Vanserra has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?”
Valeria couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief. When she opened her mouth to offer another sly retort, another voice beat her to it.
**
The entire night was torture for Azriel.
It all started when he spotted Valeria in a striking dark blue fitted gown that hugged her every curve and exposed so much of her pretty sun kissed skin– Gods, she was beautiful.
He wanted nothing more than to trace her curves and exposed skin with his hands while he tasted her pretty lips once more. He almost had this morning after sparring with her.
A warmth surged through him, almost as if he were staking a delusional claim, as he noticed the necklace he gifted her was wrapped sweetly around her neck, the moonstone gem resting right at the curves of her chest.
It had been hard for him to part from her side after dinner. He wanted to be the one to walk with her, dance with her. The desire to take her away and have her to himself was overwhelming but he could not afford to give in to it. He was bound by the High Lord’s orders, hovering around with his shadows dispersed, keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity. He spared a couple of shadows to accompany Valeria, instructing them to keep a low profile with her and reach out to him immediately if anyone that wasn’t Rhysand or her mother touched her.
The torture had escalated with each passing moment as he noticed the increasing looks of interest sent her way. He had to summon every ounce of strength to keep his jealousy at bay, especially when he noticed that Valeria had attracted the attention of a red-haired male.
Eris, heir to the Autumn court, his shadows happily filled in for him.
He watched with a tensed resolve, concealing the jealousy in his eyes behind the usual fierce and protective mask he wore. His gaze was unwavering as the Autumn Court male held her close, danced with her and when he made her laugh, he decided that was it.
He was going to intervene. Perhaps, he would start by ripping the smirk off of Eris’s face...
**
“Eris.”
Valeria found herself being pulled away and into the chest of another. A protective arm wrapped around her shoulders and she looked up to find her brother–his actions betraying the cool and measured demeanor on his face.
Eris’s smirk widened, picking up on Rhysand’s frustration. “I can see why you keep her hidden now.”
“Stay away from my sister.”
Rhysand’s glare was not enough to communicate his disapproval of Eris’s sudden and unwelcome interest in his sister. He didn’t bother with formalities and without saying another word, he pulled her away from Eris.
Leaning in closer to Valeria, Rhysand spoke in a hushed voice. “I have someone I want you to meet,” he whispered as he guided her through the crowded gathering.
Valeria followed her brother, oblivious to the Shadowsinger that had been moments away from tearing the heir to the Autumn court into pieces. She was curious and somewhat relieved to leave behind the tense encounter with Eris, wondering why the Cauldron had decided to bestow Prythian with its fair share of wicked sons.
But perhaps not all of Prythian’s sons were wicked, she found herself thinking as Rhysand introduced her to a quiet blond male. He appeared around her age. His green eyes were innocent and kind–a dark contrast to his older brothers, who had glared at her during dinner earlier.
His name was Tamlin and a light blush rose to his cheeks as Valeria smiled at him.
**
Finally, in the comforts of her room, Valeria let out a sigh of relief as she leaned back against her door.
The night had been a hurricane of emotions from all the interactions she had, some were welcomed and others draining. She had ended her night with Mor, who was finally able to escape from the grasps of her family as Eris and his father approached Keir. Rhysand had to unfortunately leave early. Their father wanted him to check up on a growing conflict between Windhaven and a neighboring camp first thing in the morning so he thought it’d be best if he stayed the night at their house in Windhaven.
Valeria made her way to her vanity, seating herself upon the cushion of its bench. She slowly unraveled her bun, allowing her long dark hair to fall into a sea of ebony waves.
She unclasped her earrings next and as she went to unclasp her necklace, her eyes widened with alarm at the figure she caught behind her in the reflection from the vanity’s mirror. She abruptly stood from her seat, her initial shock giving way and gaze softening as she recognized the figure.
“By the cauldron, Azriel, you nearly gave me a heart attack!“
Azriel was behind her within seconds and she caught sight of his heated gaze through the mirror. “My sentiments exactly,” he told her, his fingers brushing the thin strap of her dress. He rejoiced in the way it easily fell from her shoulders. “When I saw you wearing this dress.”
“I wore it for you.” Valeria confessed as heat rose to her cheeks. The blue shade of her dress perfectly matched his siphons.
“Is that so?” He hummed, his gaze not leaving her bare back.
He knew it was wrong to look at her the way he did. He knew that Rhysand would kill him if he saw the intent in his eyes but he had waited so long–six excruciating months– to finally have Valeria alone again and his shadows screamed at him to give in and seize the opportunity.
His hand then lightly grazed her back, tracing along the spot where her wings usually rested. Valeria shivered at his touch.
She turned around to face him and their eyes met, unspoken words between them as tension filled the air.
Tension that had sparked between them since their first kiss. Tension that had lingered, waiting for the right kindling to ignite it once more. Tension that was set alight by their sparring this morning and no longer impossible to ignore...
And then their lips were desperately crashing into each other in a heated kiss.
They pulled each other close until their bodies were flush against one another, his shadows enveloping around the both of them. With Valeria’s arms wrapped around his neck, she slid her fingers through his soft dark hair and his slid to her hips, hoisting her up onto her vanity. Her legs instantly wrapped themselves around his waist and she pulled him even closer. He groaned and she felt him harden against her, making heat pool in her stomach.
He broke away from the kiss, resting his forehead against hers. His eyes were closed, his breathing fast and sharp. “Val,” he breathed her name so heavenly, despite the slight tremble in his body. “If we don’t stop now, I won’t be able to hold myself back.”
She knew she should stop him as they were both walking among a fine line but she couldn’t bring herself to. Not when Azriel was looking at her like she was the one who placed the stars in the sky.
“Good thing,” Valeria began, nudging her nose softly against his. “I don’t want you to stop.”
That was all the confirmation Azriel needed before he picked her up and placed her onto her bed. He was then claiming her lips again, darting his tongue along her bottom lip and she parted her lips for him, groaning into his mouth as his tongue caressed hers.
Azriel broke from the kiss and pulled on the dress that had left little to the imagination and an insatiable thirst to see more. He was filled with a desperate desire to feel all of her against him. She arched into him, allowing him to undo the delicate laces and slide her dress off in one motion. He would’ve ripped it off her, if it hadn’t been one of her mother’s designs.
His breath hitched as he hovered over her, appreciating her beauty–the sight of her almost bare before him. Her moonstone necklace shimmered and was nestled deliciously right above her exposed breasts. “Gods, you’re so beautiful,” he breathed, allowing his shadows to caress her breasts, rejoicing in the way she shivered with pleasure.
She let out a moan as he lowered his mouth to one of her breasts and sucked on it, his tongue flicking against her nipple while his shadows continued to caress the other.
“Azriel.”
“Tell me,” he murmured against her soft skin. “Tell me what you want.”
“I want to be yours.” She breathed in reply.
He nearly moaned at her words, rapidly losing his resolve as the scent of her arousal hit him then. She pulled on his leathers, a silent request to take them off. He complied, disposing of his clothing until he was bare before her, his siphons landing on the floor with a thud. His cock sprang free, no longer restrained by his leathers and he took delight in the way her eyes grew wide, taken aback by his considerable length before they trailed their way up to the intricate tattoos on his chest.
Valeria wanted to kiss along his tattoos as she had desired to earlier in the morning but when she moved to sit up, Azriel stopped her. He pinned her back to the bed with a low growl. Her bare skin was so warm against his.
“You’re all mine.” He told her, echoing her wish from just moments ago, and then was grinding his hips against her clothed core in a teasing manner.
His lips trailed down her stomach until he hovered over the place she desperately needed him. He looked up once more at her. Although he told her he wouldn’t be able to hold himself back, he still sought her permission.
She gave a nod and he smirked at her.
“Words.” He teased her, brushing his nose against her core as her arousal flooded him, overwhelming all his senses. His eyes and the shadows around him darkened. “I need your words.”
“I need you.”
He tutted, not entirely satisfied. “Need me where?”
“By the cauldron Azriel, I need you to fuck me.” She cried out desperately, her words making his cock throb almost painfully and before he could tease her further, she added: “With your tongue, fingers, cock. Do as you wish, I’m all yours."
“Gods, you have such a dirty mouth on you.” He replied as he slid her underwear off, imagining all the things her dirty mouth was capable of. He hooked her legs to rest on either side of his shoulders. “Where did you learn such vulgar things?”
Books, she had meant to reply but she was set ablaze and at a loss for words at the first lick of his tongue. A soft whimper escaped from her and he unleashed himself, eagerly devouring her and drawing out more moans that were like music to his ears. Her fingers found themselves entangled in his hair again and she writhed beneath him. Azriel placed a firm grip on her hips, smirking against her as her thighs trembled against him. He could tell she was close.
Wanting nothing more than to hear her lose herself completely to him, he slid his tongue into her and allowed his shadows to caress her everywhere, wanting to touch every inch of her skin and discover her most sensitive areas. Her breasts, her neck, her clit.
“Azriel.”
Another low growl erupted from deep in his chest at the way she moaned his name. It was lovely and it felt so right.
“Come on, princess.” He purred, pressing a kiss to her clit before kissing his way up her thigh. He replaced his tongue with his finger, slowly easing his way with one until eventually, he was pumping two inside her. He left trails of her essence all over her body as he continued to make his way up. “Let go for me.”
Azriel’s lips were pressed against her neck when the heat pooled in her stomach tightened and then her core was pulsing around his fingers as she came, waves of pleasure flooding all of her senses. He pulled away from her neck, watching as her body arched into his and trembled with a soft glow.
Azriel had never beheld anything more exquisite than this–than her coming apart under his touch. His gaze lingered on her for a moment, engraving the sweet image into his mind. An image that he would savor for centuries.
A finger traced over the sensitive curve of his wing, pulling him out of his trance and it was his turn to moan her name. He felt her other hand on his cheek and he leaned in to it, savoring her touch. He allowed her to take control for a moment as she guided his lips to hers. She could taste herself on his lips.
Another whimper escaped from him, his eyes fluttering close when he felt her finger brush the curve of his wing again. Her movements were agonizingly slow as she trailed her finger down and his breath hitched as they brushed against his hard length before wrapping themselves around it. He placed his hand over hers before she could continue. She had barely touch him but he could feel his release quickening already.
When he opened his eyes, his pupils were blown, their darkness honing in on her. A darkness she wanted to dive further into. “Please.” Valeria begged against his lips.
His forehead rested against hers and his breath fanned her face. He knew what she was asking for but there would be no going back from this. He wanted to make sure that she still wanted this, still wanted him.
“Are you sure?” He pulled away from her lips to allow her to answer, leaning his cheek against her hand once more, his eyes looking straight into hers.
“Yes.” Her voice was so sure as she held his gaze. It caused something in his chest to rise and flutter madly. “I want you to be my first.”
Overwhelmed by the surge of emotions, he found himself unable to suppress his feelings. Yes, he desired her, but it went beyond physical attraction. He yearned for more than just her body. He desperately and selfishly wanted her heart too.
“I don’t just want to be your first.” He told her, pressing a soft kiss into the palm of her hand. “I want to be the only one.”
“Yes, yes.” She nodded her head at him and though her eyes were clouded with lust, she genuinely meant it. She yearned to be his and his only. Heart and soul. “You’re all I can think about.”
“Gods, you’ll be my ruin.” He uttered a sigh as he fisted his cock. He rubbed his length along her entrance, coating it with her arousal before sliding the tip in.
Valeria let out a gasp as he slowly pushed himself further. His hands found hers, intertwining their fingers together and resting them on either side of her head. He sweetly kissed the tears from her eyes and stilled inside her, allowing her to adjust to his size. Blood pounded through his body, his heart surging with fervor as she felt so heavenly wrapped around him tightly.
He’d imagined this moment before, on nights where his thoughts were consumed with her. He’d imagine what noises she’d make, what she’d feel like, how she’d beg for him. To finally have her like this, it surpassed his wildest dreams.
And when she was begging for him to move, he happily obliged.
“You’re taking me so well.” He praised as he thrusted into her, slow and hard, all the way until his hips were flushed against hers. "Fuck, you're so perfect."
His thrusts grew quicker and harder, his shadows frenzied around him as he continued to draw out her pleasure. She was a sobbing mess beneath him. When he felt her pulsing around him, he sent a shadow to rub against her clit while his lips claimed hers. She moaned lewdly into his mouth.
His pace picked up, pounding into her mercilessly as their scents merged as one. His grip on her hands tightened as his hips stuttered into her. She tilted her head back, their kiss now all tongue and barely lips as she tightened around him.
Release tore through their bodies and when their eyes met, they were a beautiful and panting mess.
Through the window, the moon's soft embrace casted a gentle glow, illuminating her face as his shadows lingered behind him, admiring her beauty. She was the radiant light, and he, the comforting darkness. They existed in an unspoken unity.
She held his heart, and he, unreservedly, belonged to her.

a/n: I was inspired by a comment @kemillyfreitas made on one of the imagines and decided that if her father won't show her love, at least Thesan will. I have a soft spot for the high lord of dawn <3
I contemplated so much about this moment between Az and Val because it was definitely going to happen. It was just a matter of when. I wanted to save it for the actual storyline but ultimately, thought it was best for it to happen much sooner. They are aware that there's something special between them (Az more so than Val) but instead of letting words/reason guide them, they're being guided by their feelings and desire. also, if things are unclear or you would like clarification on some things, feel free to ask. I'll answer them happily!
songs I listened to while writing this on repeat: kingdom fall by claire wyndham, i wanna be yours by arctic monkeys if you couldn't tell by the dialogue lol, feels like by gracia abrahams. I did make a playlist for songs I listen to while I write. I want to incorporate some of the lyrics into the imagines.

Rage, rage | two
index
Pairing: Azriel x Hybern!Princess!OC
Summary: Nimue was a gift for the King of Hybern. His shining jewel, the perfect heir. However, she knows who the villain of the story is. When she saves her father's enemies from a tragic end, she realizes that now it's the Cauldron who has a gift for her: a mate.
Warnings: violence, injuries, description of injuries, PTSD, bad language, again The King of Hybern...
A/N: so here it is, the second part. I really hope that you're all liking it. It's starting to settle, our protagonists are meeting and it's getting more interesting!! As always, any kind of support would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all for your time❤️
Nimue stands in the middle of her enormous room: a chamber so deep within her father's castle, it is carved directly into the mountain rock. She doesn't see natural light, hear the ocean waves, or watch birds fly.
Not that she has ever seen them. She simply knows they exist, how they sound, how they smell, because the Cauldron has told her so.
She observes her own reflection in the huge mirror on the wall. The girl she sees is truly beautiful. She possesses an ethereal beauty that seems to emanate from within her, as if she were imbued with the same magic that created her. Her long, silky hair falls in wavy cascades of silver, with flashes of light that seem to dance with every movement. Her eyes are of a hypnotic color, like the whitest of pearls, shining with ancient wisdom and fierce determination. Her skin is pale as the moon, yet it gleams with a radiant glow that seems to illuminate even the darkest night. Her figure is slender and elegant.
The reflection the mirror returns is that of an ancient, wise, powerful being.
However, she only feels like a child, surrounded by things she knows from others' words.
When her father isn't listening, Nimue asks the Palace cooks to recount to her what the world beyond the walls is like. In particular, it's the words of old Ferlan that she enjoys hearing the most: she describes the landscape beyond the cliffs on which the castle stands, the dense enchanted forests, the fertile plains where people live in beautiful villages, the beaches of black sand and cold water, the cliffs where giants were said to have once dwelled...
It's those stories that comfort Nimue's lonely heart, that shed light on her shadow-filled world.
Before she knows it, she's wandered so far in her daydreams that she doesn't even know what time it is.
That's when she feels it in the air, even before hearing it. That sweet scent that accompanies The Voice...
"You have everything in your power to be free, child," it whispers in her ear. The scent, the presence, like a smoke-shaped entity, swirls around her, caressing her cheeks and tucking strands of hair behind her ears. "No one would dare stand in your way. Once you decide, the world will bow to your will. Your father will submit to your will..."
Nimue violently shakes her head. The Voice steps back, but when she becomes still again, it clings to her skin once more.
"But father... what has he done to me?"
The Voice laughs, and Nimue feels like she's going to be sick.
"What has father done to you? You're foolish, child. Foolish. Foolish. Innocent. Foolish," it spits out word after word, and Nimue feels them like daggers.
"Father brought me into the world, father gave me life. I owe everything to father, and he asks me to fight in his name. To protect my people from those who wish us harm."
Nimue clings to her own words like a mantra.
"Father loves me..." she whispers into the air, for The Voice is no longer there with her. She wonders if it was ever really there at all, or if it was just feverish imaginings to soothe her own loneliness.
Father loves her. But she knows he's not a good person. Nimue knows what lies beyond, and she longs to see the sunlight, to see the sea, to feel the rain on her skin...
Nimue knows her father isn't a good person. But neither is she.
She knows she has to kill her father. But where will she find the courage? She only knows these four walls that surround her. What will she do when she kills him? Will the Cauldron be angry with her? What kind of child kills their own father?
She spins, and spins, and spins with the same questions for years. Since the moment she gained enough awareness in her fae body to realize that her "father" wasn't the hero of the story, and she was just another puppet in his conquest game.
The only thing she was sure of was that she wouldn't be the good one either. That she wouldn't let her father win that game.
With light steps, she leaves her room and decides to wander around the castle for a bit. Curiosity is what moves her.
In these past weeks, her father's castle has been filled with various guests of all kinds, a very diverse selection. The legions of the attor, her father's elite soldiers, the highest-ranking officials, there were even two males from Prythian and a few simple humans.
Humans. Nimue had been smelling them for weeks in every corner of the castle. That stale stench that seeped into her pores.
She wondered what reasons the King would have to bring humans into the cleanliness of his castle, but as always, even if she asked, the answer would be the same: politics is not Nimue's concern. Nimue only fights, fights, fights.
However, today the hallways were surprisingly empty. Empty of humans, attor, and even the guards.
Where was everyone?
And it was right at that moment, in that desolate and gloomy hallway, that Nimue noticed the silence.
There were guards all over the castle. Magical guards isolating something, someone. There was something blocking her senses, and no matter how much she extended her magical perception, she couldn't feel the Cauldron.
The Cauldron.
Her heart skipped a beat when she realized she was alone without the presence of the Cauldron. If until then she had felt lonely, she realized it was nothing compared to the pressure she felt in her chest.
What was happening?
She began to run, like a lost child in an enchanted forest.
While she had never seen the Cauldron after she emerged, she had always lived with its constant presence in the castle. She knew it was there, it comforted her, it kept her company. Sometimes she even believed that The Voice she heard was the Cauldron itself, seeking to keep her company.
She kept running, and running, and running, not knowing where to. As she turned a corner, she felt the need to grip the white stone wall so tightly that she felt a nail break.
What was that pain in her chest? By the Mother, she had never experienced an arrow to the heart, but she imagined that's how it must feel. What was happening to her?
As soon as she caught her breath, she continued running somewhere, with that throbbing pain between her ribs.
And she heard it:
My creature, my sweet creature.
She stopped abruptly, all senses alert and panting like a racehorse.
Come, princess. I have gifts for you. Follow my voice, sweet girl.
Nimue almost sobbed. That voice, sweet, like a mother's... The Cauldron was calling her.
She finally saw it clearly: she knew which doors to open, which stairs to climb, which corners to turn. She saw it so clearly that for a moment she was blinded by all that power that the Cauldron emanated.
"I'm coming!" she cried, desperate.
She knew which door it was behind, and when she opened it, the wave of power that greeted her completely stunned her.
And then she began to process her surroundings: in the throne room, there were all the guards, all the creatures that formed her father's court. All surrounding a truly grotesque scene.
Nimue put on the intimidating mask she had practiced so much, while her gaze danced from figure to figure: an Ilyrian (an Ilyrian male, she hadn't seen any!) lying on the floor, its black and powerful wings now nothing more than torn limbs and patches of skin. A little further away, another Ilyrian male (by the Mother, two in one day!), this one with an arrow lodged in his chest and kneeling in a pool of his own blood, next to him a beautiful blonde female with tears streaming down her face.
She kept looking, there was everything in that room. When everyone recognized her presence and turned to look at her, she felt as if time stood still as she advanced, making her way among the guards' armors. With her head held high and her curious gaze, she tried to calm her own nerves and continued observing.
There were humans there, those women her father had once called queens. Queens of what? Also that hateful Jurian, with whom she had coincided a couple of times, enough to decide he was nothing but trash. And two females...
Her gaze returned to the group beyond, where behind the Ilyrian she found a pair of fae, and unwittingly she recognized him, his darkness.
Rhysand.
She frowned and continued walking towards her father, circling the whole scene while feeling all eyes on her, following her graceful movements.
Come, child. And look at the gift, look at it...
And she set her eyes on the Cauldron.
She forgot about that phantom arrow lodged in her chest, and stopped next to her father, her gaze fixed on the Cauldron.
She felt her father's accusatory gaze on her, but putting that aside, he spoke:
"You arrive at the perfect moment, my dear daughter," and after those words, she felt as if everyone in the room breathed again after her untimely interruption.
What the hell was going on there? What was the High Lord Rhysand doing in her castle? Who were those accompanying him?
"You arrive at the perfect moment to witness the miracle of the Cauldron. To witness the demonstration these humans will perform for it..."
Her father continued speaking, but Nimue completely ignored him. She just stood there, next to the King of Hybern, and analyzed the whole situation.
The two fae males who had been hanging around her house for weeks, the blonde and the redhead, bound by her father's magic. Weren't they allies? Why was her father imprisoning them?
A little further away, the two guards holding one of the two human girls began pushing her towards the Cauldron.
She heard screams, pleas, denials from all sides. The King spoke, the human Queens, the fae female next to Rhysand, some of them shouting at each other.
But Nimue only had eyes for the poor human they were pushing towards the Cauldron.
What were they going to…?
And as if she were a feather, they lifted her above the edge of the Cauldron and submerged her in a single motion, plunging her until she lost sight of her.
Nimue felt pure terror. Memories that weren't hers flooded her.
Skin dissolving, bones breaking, desperate screams.
She screamed into the air, bringing her hand to her mouth to stifle the sob that escaped her chest. Her father stopped her by pulling on the leash, even before she had thought of throwing herself towards the poor girl.
Rage, rage, rage, rage, rage.
Everything that happened afterward was like a blink.
The Cauldron spat the girl onto the flagstones as if she were a fish out of water.
Look, child. I have given you a sister. I have created a sister for you.
Nimue breathed so fast she thought she was going to faint.
The people present were saying things, shouting, crying, laughing.
The other human fought tooth and nail against the guards, her screams piercing Nimue's eardrums, who only let herself be infected by the rage of that poor human.
Her rage. Rage. Rage.
The rage that boiled in every nerve of her being. It bubbled at the tips of her fingers, beneath her skin, in her eyes, everywhere.
If she opened her mouth, she felt like her own rage would burst forth in torrents, like a river after the snows.
Her rage was going to burst out, all over her father.
The second human kept fighting. Nimue never imagined the human spirit could be so untamed.
And the hand of that woman pointing at her father made something change in the air.
Nimue felt her leash loosen, felt her father getting a little nervous.
And she saw the moment.
She saw the weakness in the air, the King's doubt.
And she embraced it.
The second human emerged from the Cauldron, transformed into something.
And Nimue exploded.
A beam of white light burst from her chest, throwing her father backward. The King's head hit one of the columns, and everyone present in the room recoiled at such a wave of power.
What rage. What immense rage. It consumed her inside, burned her. So much, so much rage.
She raised an arm and pointed at her father, feeling how, again, energy rose from her feet to the tips of her fingers. She struck the King again with all that rage.
"You're a monster!" she shouted. She shouted it again and again, while feeling that with every pulse of power she directed towards him, she was gradually breaking down his shields.
However, the King of Hybern laughed, kneeling on the flagstones and trying to regain his composure. A venomous, disgusting laugh that made bile rise in Nimue's mouth.
In a last attempt to take control of the situation, Nimue raised a shield in the center of the room, around the Cauldron. In two agile leaps, she positioned herself next to Rhysand.
"Show me a place," she demanded. Rhysand clung to the brunette female beside him, tears streaming down his face. His gaze jumped from Nimue to the Ilyrian males, from the Ilyrian males to the new fae females, and back to Nimue. "Tell me a place and I'll get you out of here! Quickly, show me!" the princess demanded again.
The guards pounded Nimue's white shield again and again, and behind her, she felt the King of Hybern standing up.
Her gaze met Rhysand's again, and the male, trembling, took Nimue's hand.
"To Velaris," he managed to whisper.
Nimue didn't know how, but as soon as she heard the name, she knew exactly where it was, what it was. She chose whom to take: the two Ilyrian males, the beautiful blonde fae female, the two girls who had been submerged in the Cauldron, the female clinging to Rhysand, and finally Rhysand himself, whose hand Nimue held when she let her magic transport her and everyone else away from there. Away from Hybern. Away from her home.
To Velaris.

Azriel
It’s just past dawn when Azriel slips back into bed, the dim morning sun illuminates the room in a hazy glow. Aurora stirs, reaching out for him.
“Where’d you go?” she asks sleepily.
Azriel sinks into the warmth and wraps his arms and wings around Aurora - in both protection and comfort. “I had some business to attend to, I’m here now. I’m not going anywhere.”
Aurora gently grabs Azriel’s bandaged hand. “Who did you beat up?” she questions, turning her head to look into his eyes.
“No one that didn’t deserve it,” Azriel answers, kissing Aurora tenderly on her forehead.
Aurora sighs, relaxing further into Azriel’s chest. “Are we training with the others today?”
“I planned to give you some time off, I don’t want you to push yourself.”
“I know, but it gives me something to focus on. It helps to channel everything more healthily.”
Azriel rests his chin against the top of Aurora’s head and sighs deeply. He completely understands where she’s coming from, but in the same breath - his protective instincts were firing and he didn’t want to put her at risk.
“How about we train together, just the two of us? That way, you won’t lose any progress and I won’t worry so much.”
“Okay, deal,” Aurora agrees.
————
The next few days were like a dream.
No, they were better than anything Azriel could have dreamed up. He had his mate, and she was everything and more than he’d ever hoped for.
Their days were split between exercising and lounging around together - either chatting or simply enjoying each other’s presence.
Azriel taught Aurora new fighting techniques and after, she taught him new yoga poses.
With all the training, Azriel was working one muscle harder than the rest - his self-control.
Gods…
The way she moved, how she looked up at him with those big beautiful eyes and that innocent little smile.
Azriel had never yearned for someone like this.
Still, there was one thought that played over and over in his mind. ‘It could have been worse.’
Azriel guessed what Aurora meant by that, but he wasn’t sure Prythian would still exist if his worst fears were confirmed.
Regardless of that glowing thread and the tug in his chest, Azriel would wait for Aurora to make the first move. He’d rather go without those touches forever than push her too far, away from him.
————
Aurora
Ever since the mating bond snapped into place, Azriel had barely left your side. And, he’d never pushed for more intimacy than you were ready for. You truly didn’t understand how you got so lucky, but you thanked the Cauldron every day.
Helion, your uncle, was staying in Velaris to assist in your magic training, alongside Rhys and Amren.
It was strange to spend time with Helion knowing the truth of your heritage, you wondered how you never noticed the resemblance. It seemed so obvious now. It was bittersweet - you were grateful to have him in your life again but it made you wish you’d had more time with both of your parents.
Once you understood how your powers worked and what they could do beyond creating light - it was much easier to start to harness them. It wasn’t long until you were breaking small wards created by your High Lord and his Second.
As well as spell-cleaving, you discovered your magic made a great shield - one that could protect you from even the harsh blast of a Siphon. With your budding confidence and your growing grasp of your powers - everyone agreed it was time to rejoin Valkyrie training.
————
Despite the cold wind rushing around you, you felt warm and at peace. You always did with Azriel. In his arms, you soar above Velaris, making your way to the House of Wind for training. Your first training session with the group since the bond snapped.
You hadn’t seen much of Cassian or Nesta in that time, and you were worried they’d been avoiding you since you revealed your powers.
That worry faded quickly, as you’re met with big smiles from everyone.
Cassian steps forward, moving closer to you and Azriel. “Good to see you, Rory. Let’s see if you’ve kept Az in shape.” Cassian smirks at you and playfully slaps Azriel on the chest. Azriel straightens his back and his wings flare slightly, making him appear even taller.
You glance between the males, and you scrunch your nose, slightly confused. “What do you mean?” You question. “We’ve been training every day.”
“Training eh, is that what you call it?” Cassian chuckles.
Wings flare, and glowing beams of red and blue flash in front of you. The movement stops as Azriel pins Cassian to the ground on his back. Cassian raises his hands, conceding defeat. “I’m sorry Az, chafing much?” he laughs.
Azriel glares as he offers Cassian his hand, helping him to his feet.
From beside you, Nesta rolls her eyes and crosses her arms across her chest. “Illyrian brutes,” she mutters.
Cassian turns to address the group, “Okay, let's warm up and then Rory, you can show us what you’ve learnt in your special training.” One glance at Azriel’s face has Cassian backtracking and raising his palms again, “Oh no, Az, I meant the training with Helion. I promise I won’t joke again.”
The remark makes Nesta scoff, and the pair begin bickering. You smile softly and look up at your mate. Love pours down the bond in both directions. It took a while, but you’ve finally found your family. Both of you have.

Help!!
I've been trying to find this acotar fic that I read and I can't remember the title or author for the life of me. It's an Azriel x reader or Azriel x OC. The person is supposed to be innocent and good and then goes on emissary duties to autumn court where Beron has his men drown them. They come back and they are big mad, and tell Beron to get in the water. They are worried about how Azriel will react to this side of them. It was so good and I need to read it again.
If you know the fic or author please please please tell me, I'm dying to find it again.
Thank you!!

Lollipop
Azriel x innocent Vanserra OC
Summary - after being silenced during the High Lord's meeting with her favorite candy. Seraphina finds herself the center of a certain shadowsingers attention
Warnings - implied smut, implied corruption kink, Beron being Beron (so mentions/signs of abuse), implied swapping, Nesta implying she'd go down on OC, age gap, messing with canon a little bit
A/N -I got bored and the whole corruption kink side of me came out. I also think I'm developing a Nesta kink, and it's probably going to get pretty smutty between her and an oc or reader here soon.... oooo or the valkyries x reader.... might have to do something for my girlies who love other girlies...
Part 2
Azriel was going to fucking faint.
Beron, in an effort to stop his daughter from continuing to egg on the Princess of the Summer court, had pulled out some form of an candy on a stick and put it in her mouth much to the laughter and delight of everyone around.
Now all the shadowsinger could do was watch out of the corners of his eyes as his mate sucked and licked on the candy innocently while reading the book Eris had brought for her.
Doing okay there, brother? Rhysand's purr in his mind before the High Lord looked over at the daughter of Autumn had Azriel suppressing a growl. Well, doesn't little Seraphina just look so pretty with her lips wrapped around something.
Azriel shot him a glare before peeking over again. She had the candy so just the tip of it was in her mouth, lips wrapped perfectly around it. Cauldron fucking boil me. Rhysand sent him a wave of agreement as Feyre also looked over and smirked.
Feyre thinks the 3 of us should take her, and oh fuck-
Azriel and Rhys quickly snapped their eyes back to the meeting when the daughter of Autumn looked their way before looking at her older brother and tapping his shoulder.
Her breasts were on display, small hands delicating holding the stick of the candy as she leaned forward in the exquisite dress she was in to whisper in her older brother's ear.
The male heir of Autumn looked over to the Night Court glaring at the shadowsinger and the high lord. He growled softly before taking the candy from a clearly uncomfortable female.
"Excuse my interruption," Tamlin stopped talking as soon as Eris spoke and demanded the attention of the room, "Do you have something you'd like to say to my sister, Spymaster? You've been staring at her for the past 10 minutes."
The room had gone silent. Tamlin leaned forward with a smirk, as did Tarquin and Thesan. The daughter of Autumn was an unspoken set boundary. No one looked at or touched Beron's girl, not even Amarantha. Too much power radiated in that small body. Power anyone would have given Beron their left arm to have access to. They just had to follow his rules to get the chance to play for her hand, and right now, Azriel's silence was risking his own family's shot at it.
Might want to say something there, brother. Az shot Rhysand a glare before clearing his throat and saying the one thing he knew he shouldn't.
"How can I not stare at such a beautiful creature? Especially when your father so willing put something in her mouth for the entertainment of every male here?" Rhys froze and immediately sent a look Azriel's way.
That wasn't what I had in mind. Being her mate does not promise you her hand, Az. Beron could sell her off before Eris gets the chance to bring her to us. Tread carefully.
Beron laughed darkly before turning to the Night Court, "I didn't realize silencing my 55 year old daughter with candy would be such a problem for you, Azriel. No one else here seems to think anything of it. Must just be that Illyrian Bastard blood in you." The reminder of her young age was a slap in the face to the shadowsinger. A reminder that she hardly understood the world yet and that she had spent the majority of her life trapped in that mountain.
Azriel caught the way Seraphina's eyes shut slowly at her father's insults, "It's not a big deal, daddy. I-." Her father held a hand up to silence her. No one missed the flinch from the young girl. Helion, Azriel, Cassian, and Rhys all looked towards each other.
Helion was now staring at the young female too, his eyes softening at her fear. Beron glared at Helion before continuing, "If you continue to look at my daughter, you'll find yourself wingless, boy."
Sera even knew that was too far. Azriel watched the way her chest stilled as she stared wide eyed at her father before switching her gaze to Helion who shook his head softly at her in warning.
Rhysand growled this time, "Do not threaten MY family over your choice not to educate your daughter on sexual matters."
Sera was confused. How was a caramel apple sucker sexual? She made eye contact with the Spring lord, who simply motioned for her to come over to him, and she did.
She walked in a way that reminded Azriel of water. Flowing, smooth, gently. He barely suppressed the growl in his throat as Tamlin pulled the girl into his lap, his mouth close to her delicately pointed and jewel adorned ear.
The room filled with laughter as her eyes grew wide and a red flush hit her chest and cheeks. "Really," she whispered softly to Tamlin, who nodded and then continued whispering in her ear. Soft nodding came from her as Tamlin stroked her upper thigh and whispered to her, eyes locked on Azriel in a clear message. He knew. He could somehow sense the bond. "What's a," Tamlin covered her mouth, laughing slightly as he explained something else to her. "So people don't use the proper terms during sex?" Tamlin was smirking at this point. Whatever he had just said made the young girl gasp, and her eyes go wide.
Beron growled this time and tried to break the field of neutrality in anger but couldn't. "Enough, Tamlin!" Seraphina shifted in Tamlin's lap after he finished speaking to her. She stood and walked back over to the Autumn Court in shock and embarrassment.
"I apologize for the distraction, Shadowsinger. Forgive me," she began playing with her long red curls as Azriel scented her anxiety. "Thank you for the…. Educational lesson, high lord." The daughter of Autumn sat back down slowly and made a fatal error. Her and Nesta Archeron made eye contact and the oldest Cauldron made said one simple thing.
"In case he didn't tell you because he's a selfish male, there's males out there who'd return that favor. And females, if youd be interested in that." The daughter of Autumn grew more red and opened her book to hide her face in the crisp pages, "If you'd like to learn, let me know."
An audible squeak came from the young fae female, "Eris." She was desperate for help. Her brother shot a look Nesta's way, and she returned it with a hate fueled glare.
Tamlin had painted a mental image for her in pretty words chosen specifically to make the young female feel warm. Truly though, She didn't mind the idea. The thought of her on her knees as Azriel tangled his large scarred hands through her long red curls, tongue running along his cock as he made a mess of her made her feel warmth growing in her stomach she'd never felt before.
She had heard rumors from other females about the size of an Illyrian's wings having something to do with the size of their cock, and Seraphina was just trying to imagine how exactly that would work if rumors were true. How exactly would she fit all of him into her mouth if given a chance? The handsome spymaster had huge wings. The largest wings she'd ever seen on a winged fae. If wing size related to endowment size, his cock was huge. And if Nesta was involved? Cauldron boil her. Would Cassian also be involved?
A hand gently clawed at her mind, causing her to freeze. It wasn't trying to get in her head. It was already there. Her honey eyes met violet ones as Rhysand leaned back in his chair and sipped his wine.
No, love, keep going. I was enjoying the delicious thoughts you were having. My brothers and I love sharing our toys. You could have Cassian and Nesta, myself and Feyre- His voice was purr that made her shiver with chills as she slammed him back out and watched as he looked at Azriel.
The winged male's only response was one side of his mouth twitching into a smile before he became unreadable again.
"Now that Seraphina has been educated on some of the finer matters of life, can we continue?" Kal asked coldly as he leaned back into his chair.
Eris discretely handed his sister back her candy. He shot her one look that said, "Be good," before focusing solely on Tamlin and Rhysand restarting their lovers spat.
Seraphina made eye contact with Azriel again as she slowly put the sucker back in her mouth. Azriel pulled his lower lip into his mouth and tugged the mating bond, praying Rhysand had been right when he said he had found it in her mind, but the female just didn't know what it was. Another way to keep her in the dark and innocent, Azriel thought bitterly.
She made a confused face as she looked down at her chest. Then followed the string to Azriel, lollipop now back in the same trapped position of her lips, If you continue looking at me like that with those pretty lips wrapped around that thing, I am not responsible for what happens next little bunny.
Is what Nesta said true? Azriel felt his leathers growing tight at her curious nature. He could feel desire radiating in their bond.
Of course. Only, I eat pussy for my pleasure, not yours. And I will eat pussy because I want to. Not because you've wrapped your pretty little mouth on my cock. He had her. He felt her arousal spike as she shifted. I imagine you'll also be the type who sucks cock for your pleasure instead of mine, little mate.
I'd like to learn. He almost came right then and there as he watched her put the candy in her mouth, eyes wide like a doe.
Keep doing that, baby, and I'll be stealing you to teach you much, much more than just whatever bullshit Tamlin told you. Fucking ruin you for anyone else.
Seraphina turned her attention back to the book she had with a small smile, I'm doing emissary work in the Dawn Court all week this week. I'll be alone tonight.
I'll find you.
I look forward to it.

AZRIEL WAS STILL sorting out what had happened with Val a few hours ago, and as much as he wanted to stay away so he could process the fact she was his mate, he found himself reluctantly back at the manor.
All Azriel wanted to do was stay back in Velaris. To grab Cassian or even Rhys and spar, hoping that working off some of the steam would help him clear his mind, but the queens had two demands in their letter. Their first was that they wanted the meeting to begin at eleven. No later, no earlier.
The second was to have the exact geographical location of the house. The layout and size of each room. Where the furniture was, where the windows and doors were, and what room would the meeting most likely take place in.
As the spymaster, Azriel was the obvious choice to send to gather all of this information. He hadn't told anyone what happened with him and Val, nor did he plan to, not until he could...process.
He had wanted a mate for so long, but foolishly he held out hope that it would be Mor someday—that the mate bond would finally click between them. Centuries of pining for her, he hadn't really given much thought to being with anyone else.
Yet, now, Val had utterly knocked him off balance. She was an enigma that drew him to her like a moth drawn to a flame. Kind as she could be cold, serious as she could be playful, but there was one thing that remained, and that was the quiet unyielding strength she carried herself with. A warrior's strength. As much as she tried to hide it, he could see the haunted look in her eyes. Her past was one of pain and sorrow, something he could relate to very well.
But then there was also the fact that she was human, a mortal. If he acted on their bond, there would only be inevitable pain for him. Eventually, she would succumb to her mortality, and he would be left with feeling the loss of her departure. Even if he wanted this bond, it was doomed for heartache and pain as long as she remained human.
He had hoped that Val would be out so that he could deal with Elain or even Nesta, but as luck had it, Val was outside tending to her horse. He didn't even have a chance to turn back and come back later.
Elain, who had also been out enjoying the fresh air, gave him a shy smile when she saw him.
"Hello," She greeted, her voice so soft and light.
Azriel just nodded, giving her a small polite smile in return.
Elain radiated warmth and innocence, and he found that his shadows were content to vanish around her, unlike the way they all but begged to dance with Val.
At the thought of Val, his eyes subconsciously strayed towards her. If Elain was the sun, then Val was the moon. Shining just as bright, but part of her would always be hidden away and surrounded by darkness.
He watched as Val made her way over, the horse walking beside her obediently.
"Back so soon," She teased, a playful smirk tugging at her lips.
His whole body was stiff as he nodded. "The queens in their letter demanded to know the layout of your home," He all but choked out, hoping she didn't notice how rough his tone was.
Val nodded, seemingly oblivious to his stiffness. She waved a hand towards the house, "You're free to whatever rooms you need to see."
The horse let out a huff and nudged Val, who grinned indulgently and placed a hand on his neck. Azriel almost thought he was imagining it but could've sworn the horse looked straight at him and glared.
"If you need anything, I'm sure Elain wouldn't mind helping you. Destan hasn't gone for his run today," Val told him.
With one last smile, she walked away, and Azriel had to refrain from letting out a growl when the horse, as it walked by, purposely flicked its tail into his face.
He glared at the horse's retreating figure before his eyes once again glanced at Val, and Azriel fought back the conflicted feelings of relief and disappointment that bubbled up inside him. He had gotten his wish, and he should've been happy that she wasn't going to stick around and hover, but instead, he found himself craving to spend more time with her.
Unconsciously, his fists clenched tightly at the thought before he forced them to relax as he shook all thoughts of Val away. He needed to focus on the task at hand, so he could get back home and properly think about what she would mean to him and what he wanted to do about their one-sided bond.
"Do you need someone to show you around?" Elain spoke up, snapping him out of his thoughts. He hadn't even realized she had approached.
Azriel glanced down at her and found himself looking into her large doe eyes. Complete opposite from Val's. Whereas Val's were such a light grey-blue, they looked almost silver. Elain's were such a warm honey colour that they looked almost gold.
"No, thank you," He replied with a tight smile, pretending he didn't notice the disappointment that entered her gaze.
"Oh, well, if you need anything, I'd be more than happy to help," Elain told him in a soft voice.
Azriel could only nod.
He had catalogued every single room except for the one on the other side of this door. He stood in front of Val's door, hesitating to enter. He knew he couldn't stand out in the hall all day, but at the same time, he couldn't find it in himself to enter. After several minutes of standing there and debating with himself, he finally twisted the handle, pushing the door open and stepping inside.
Her scent was like a smack to his face. It was the first thing he noticed, and his nostrils flared at the dark earthy-sweet scent. She smelled of lilacs mingled with the petrichor scent of the rain and forest. He clenched his jaw as he ignored his sudden screaming instincts to claim the territory—to claim her.
His shadows swirled around the room curiously, as if they were surveying each and every inch of her space.
Compared to the grandeur of the rest of the chateau, Val's room was simple, standard like a guest room, bland. It lacked any true personal touches, which either meant she didn't spend much time in here, or she wasn't someone for sentimentality. But judging from the way she would unconsciously clutch at the necklace around her neck, he was leaning more towards the former.
Azriel noted everything from the way her cloak was haphazardly thrown over a chair to her unmade bedsheets. He also noticed the weapons she had cleverly scattered and hidden around in her room. Piled neatly by the windowed reading nook laid a large stack of books. His lips twitched as he read some of the titles; the majority of them were romances. It was clear these were the items she took great care of and looked to hold the most value.
He spent the most time in her room, studying it more intently than he needed to. He was trying to glean every bit of information he could from her before he finally had to force himself to leave. Thankfully Val's had been the last room and he was itching to go so his instincts could settle down. He was almost to the front door when he saw Elain come out of the kitchen and make her way straight to him.
"All done?" She questioned, and he could only silently nod, not trusting his voice. For a second, it looked as if she was debating with herself before she finally asked, "Would you like some tea?"
"Thank you, but unfortunately, I need to get back to Velaris," He replied gruffly. Everything in him screamed to go back into Val's room or even find the female herself.
Elain's lips tugged down slightly, and she nodded. Azriel dipped his head in a small stiff farewell before leaving the manor.
Azriel didn't somuch as look at Val when he arrived the next day. His face was unreadable, and his body tense. The shadows that had played with her yesterday were nowhere in sight either. Everything about him reminded her of a marble statue. Beautiful yet cold.
After their interaction yesterday, where he had suddenly frozen unexpectedly before departing abruptly, Val noticed that he'd been keeping his distance. She just let him be, giving him the space he clearly needed. They weren't friends for her to pry. They were only mere acquaintances. He owed her nothing and vice versa.
At least, that's what she told herself, yet she couldn't stop the way her eyes kept straying towards him every now and then.
Everyone was tense with the impending arrival of the Queens. Even Val was colder, more withdrawn into herself. No weapons; that was another demand from the Queens, and Val's fingers twitched, itching to have a dagger to twirl.
Instead, her hand reached up to grab the ring around her neck. The familiar feel of cool, smooth metal under her fingers calmed and grounded her. Yet, that ring was a double-edged sword. As it brought her comfort, it was also a reminder of her pain.
For a brief moment, she felt so achingly alone, wishing that he was here and back at her side. Feyre had found a place where she belonged, Nesta and Elain were content where they were, and once upon a time, Val had been too, but now all she felt was lost. Five painfully long and lonely years, she still hadn't found a way to completely move on from her past.
Shaking those thoughts away, Val tucked the ring back under her tunic and focused on those around her.
Nesta and Elain were dressed in one of their finest gowns, fit for a queen, Fae or human. Val, on the other hand, wore what she usually wore, her black riding trousers and a loose cream-coloured tunic. She had pulled back dark hair in an elaborate braided style, warrior braids that's what Hilda had called them.
The twins still weren't talking, but Nesta made no effort to hide her disapproval when she saw what Val was wearing. They were going to be in the presence of the Queens, Nesta no doubt expected Val to dress in her finest gown, just like she and Elain had. But Val had no patience for politics.
Nesta had once said Feyre was no better than a wild animal, but in reality, the wild animal was Val. She had shed the skin of propriety long ago, at first because it was a necessity but coming back to her old life of riches. She realized how stifling it truly was. She craved the freedom that had come with living in that wretched cottage. It was the only good thing about her time of poverty.
The clock let out a sharp chime in the silent room. Eleven o'clock had struck. An unnatural wind brushed through the room and where there once was an empty space, now stood five figures, each flanked by two guards.
The queens had arrived.

Of the Shadows and Blood Masterlist
(Azriel X OC)
Zene and her band of misfits have only one purpose in their lives. Save as many innocent women and children from illyrian camps and punish as many illyrian males for their crimes and bring them to justice, something clearly the authorities in power won't do.
She will get her friends and family to safety on one of the islands across the sea, where they can finally live a life of peace and safety and comfort.
But when their actions draw the attention of the illustrious Inner Circle of the Night Court, Zene finds herself face to face with the mysterious spymaster, Azriel.
Mother, however, has different plans for them, as an unfortunate mating bond snaps in place, and a new threat is simmering in the horizon, forcing Zene to work with those she despises. And forcing her even closer to a certain shadowsinger and a mating bond she doesn't want.

Not planned...not at all
Cassian x reader
Azriel x OC!reader'scousin
Short Summary: Two girls, cousins, somehow find themselves inside a slightly modified version of their favorite book saga ACOTAR. What will happen to them, things have changed and not just their situation but themselves...are those pointy ears they now have?
Chapter 15
Of course it's Rhysand that speaks first aww protective arms around Feyre's waist, bit ridiculous considering just how powerful she is but still aww!
"I will ask this one last time are either of you a threat?"
Of course Roxy and I answered as one and the same.
"No"
But I just couldn't help myself, clearly and loudly thinking "yes" only to watch Feyre's face morph into shock and worry as she not so subtly moving to protect her sisters. Meanwhile Rhysand's face went back to the emotionless cold mask a pretty scary glare sent my way.
Of course it doesn't take long for Roxanne to understand just what I'd done which earned me a good hit over the head before she pulled me down by my ear. I can't help but laugh and whine a bit at the pain.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I thought it was a funny joke, I said I'm sorry...let go"
Finally Roxy freed me so of course I stood back's straight rubbing my sire ear complaining.
"It's not my fault if they have zero sense of humor! Do I really look threatening to any of you? I'm not the one with the fighting experience, she is."
Pointing at a confused Roxanne, asking me why I would accuse her to free myself but this was everyone for themselves from the moment she tugged me down for an amazing joke. I cross my arms over my chest.
"That's called betrayal in my dictionary Nell!"
Rolling my eyes I smile innocently at her.
"Betrayal would be me naming your teenage crush from this book!"
After a bit of a stare off Roxy nods reluctantly. But I still can't help but feel the need to poke at her some more.
"Mine's pretty obvious when you know me but you...no one would even guess would they? So why can't I just give them a little push?! Say he's the-"
Just to be clear I was never gonna finish that sentence and out my own cousin like that! I just wanted her to feel the terror...and terror she did feel
I barely remember the last time she jumped at my neck like this, probably because the last time we were still in highschool.
I feel my back slam into the ground, for the second time today, although my wings seem to take away most of the hit. Curling my legs I use her inertia to push her off and roll over preparing myself for her next attempt, I'm not stupid enough to think I'll take her out that easily.
Sadly I commit the grave error of looking around for a weapon, a pillow or cushion would do, and get takled again this time I'm pined to the ground. Always thought the Bat boys were big babies complaining about wing sensitivity, but now I can testify Roxy's knees pinning my wings hurt a lot!
"That hurts...That actually hurts Roxy! I wasn't gonna say anything, I was just teasing. Why would I do that on purpose?!"
