How would Seri help Izumo when he has bad dreams about losing his best friends? What about Misaki when Fushimi has nightmares of Niki?
I hadn't thought of that but this would be really sweet, like imagine Awashima going to visit Kusanagi after Circle Vision to check on him because she knows it must have affected Kusanagi worse than anyone, seeing Mikoto and Totsuka and having to let go of them once again. She shows up at the bar and wonders if Kusanagi's gotten any sleep lately, Kusanagi tells her there's no reason for her to be concerned and that he's doing fine. Awashima notices the bags under his eyes though and she stands up and walks behind the counter, taking the keys from where she knows he keeps them and letting him know that the bar will be closed for a while so the bartender can get some sleep. Kusanagi smiles ruefully and says she's really not giving him a choice huh and Awashima flatly says she is not, using her best Lieutenant voice as she wonders if Kusanagi will be walking to his bed himself or will she have to carry him. Kusanagi figures it seems he really doesn't have any choice then, setting down the last glass he was cleaning and wondering if she intends to follow him to bed too.
Awashima walks upstairs with him, asking about Anna's whereabouts and Kusanagi says she's staying with Kamamoto tonight. Kusanagi has his own apartment but he's got a spare room in the bar too (technically more than one, with Mikoto no longer there, but Kusanagi still can't bring himself to think of that as 'spare') and he sighs and lies down, telling Awashima that she can let herself out. Awashima sits down with a book and says she will once Kusanagi's asleep. Kusanagi sighs and leans his head back, eventually falling asleep as if all the exhaustion of the past few years has caught up with him all of a sudden. Awashima's watching him sleep when she notices that he's starting to twitch a little in his sleep, his expression pained as he tosses and turns. Awashima carefully gets up and touches his shoulder and Kusanagi's eyes snap open.
Awashima asks Kusanagi if he's okay and he tries to smile, she clearly doesn't buy it and he sighs and covers his eyes with a hand as he admits he saw 'them.' Awashima knows exactly who he means and she says that's understandable. Kusanagi figures he'll always be seeing them now, after that long dream they all had. Awashima doesn't think that's so bad a thing though, maybe his memories are feeling locked away because he hasn't been allowing himself to break down in front of everyone. Kusanagi sits up and shakes his head, he says he's been doing fine all this time after all. Awashima sits down on the bed next to him and says it's only her here, so he doesn't need to keep up an appearance for anyone. Kusanagi looks at her and then gives a thin smile, saying that she's really a heartless woman. Awashima says perhaps so, reaching over and letting Kusanagi rest his head on her shoulder as he finally takes a moment to let his emotions out while she strokes his back and tells him it's okay. Afterward he's exhausted and Awashima helps him lie back down, telling him she'll be here if he has any further nightmares.
Sarumi version, I bet Yata has to deal with Fushimi's nightmares a lot. When they move back in together post-ROK Yata's surprised to realize that Fushimi has nightmares, like Fushimi always took such pains to hide them when the two of them lived together and so Yata never realized before how troubled Fushimi's sleep often is. The first time Fushimi has a really bad nightmare in front of him Yata probably freaks out slightly, like Fushimi's just tossing and turning and crying out in his sleep and Yata can't even manage to wake him up and he's just so worried that Fushimi's having this awful dream he can't wake from. Finally Fushimi sits up all shaking and sweating, Yata immediately gets him some water and tells him to relax. Yata tries to get Fushimi to tell him what his nightmare was about but Fushimi immediately quiets, saying it was nothing important. Yata starts to argue then stops and says Fushimi doesn't have to tell him if he doesn't want to, but Yata just wants Fushimi to know that if it's something that makes Fushimi scared then it's important to Yata.
After this Yata sees Fushimi having nightmares multiple times and he slowly develops ways to help Fushimi recover. I think there might be a lot of trial and error here, just Yata trying to figure out what works for Fushimi and what makes him pull away. Yata's first focus is always on getting Fushimi to calm down and get back to sleep, making sure that Fushimi knows he's here and letting Fushimi cling to him all night if that's what Fushimi needs. He also starts to find that the best way to get Fushimi to calm down is to just pull him close and stroke his hair slowly, letting Fushimi feel Yata's physical presence so close and protective and sometimes Fushimi doesn't even wake up, he just relaxes and subconsciously grabs onto Yata and Yata will wait until he's calm before putting an arm around him and going back to sleep himself. I think Fushimi might open up a little to Yata too eventually, admitting that he dreams of 'that man' and that's all Yata needs to know, reminding Fushimi that Niki's not here anymore but Yata is, and Yata's never going to leave him alone.
