Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller.
Dear Friends,
I'd like to introduce myself - I'm Pind, the founder of Avani London. I wanted to take the opportunity to use the Avani London blog to reach out to you personally about an important cause that we will be supporting over the next few months and to explain why we have pictures of tampons all over our homepage.
I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say that there's never a good time to have your period. Now imagine you're living on the streets with no sanitary products available to you and you are forced to improvise with socks and newspaper in a public toilet. Doesn't bear thinking about, does it?
Well, at Avani London HQ, we are thinking about it.
That's why over the month of December we will be donating a proportion of our profits to buying as many sanitary products as possible and donating them to London foodbanks.
If you're shopping on the Avani London website, you can be assured that you're already supporting the cause as we'll be donating 50% of our profits to the cause however, there are additional things you can do to help;
You can donate to our cause. Even as little as £1 can help a woman get through her period.
You can spread the word to your friends and followers (there's no such thing as 'not enough' followers);
Sanitary products are needed all year so if you live near a food bank (and there are so many of them around), please do donate to your local foodbanks. You can find a list of them here.
Thank you in advance for your support, and in case I do not hijack the Avani London blog again beforehand, very best wishes for the festive season.
We look forward to sharing our progress with you.
Pind, Aman and G

Tutorial: How to Set Your Tikka
Tikkas and jhummars/passas can look stunning, but have you ever bought one and then wondered how to attach it? Or more accurately, have you got your hair to behave exactly as it should, only to find that messing around with your tikka has made your hair flat and lacklustre?
Well, before you throw your tikka against the wall, help is at hand!
Firstly, we put the question to our Instagram family.
Here’s what they said!
Admittedly, we’d never heard of the Bluetack method, and eyelash glue is the most common answer, but our favourite is the elastic band method (yes, you read that right!) and it’s certainly one we tell our clients.
The method is simple: firstly section your hair and tie a tiny ponytail in back of your head. You’ll want the elastic to be tight enough to ensure that it doesn’t slip out, but loose enough for you to hook your tikka in to (we find that braces elastics work particularly well, but go for a colour that matches your hair colour).
Hook in your tikka and secure with hair grips as required.
Comb the rest of your hair back over the elastic band (a little bit of backcombing helps) to conceal the elastic band. You can further secure the tikka with a bit of eyelash glue to secure the tikka to your forehead if you wish to.
And that’s it!
Sounds too easy, right?!
Just to prove it, we enlisted the help of fabulous London based hair and make-up artist, Ren Reehal, to film a short tutorial. Check it out below!

We hope you enjoyed this blog post and feel suitably equipped to tackle the tikka!

Until next time!
