In this blog article, we'll explain what our odour control and cleaning chemical manufacturer product fragrances smell like along with some helpful tips and information on how to get the most out of fragrances in your facility.

Fragrance is also subjective... that means we all like (and dislike) different things. Our customers tell us all of these things and so we have worked hard to formulate with safe and premium fragrances. What fragrance will you choose? Here's the guide...

Zero (No fragrance)

This is fragrance free! So it’s not only great for use in applications where people or animals are sensitive or allergic to fragrance, but also so that you know how you are going with finding and removing odours. Fragrances can sometimes get in the way of odour control.

Aloe Vera (Crisp, Cool, Refreshing, Soothing)

Enjoy the crisp, cool, refreshing and soothing scents of our Aloe Vera Cucumber blend! This special fragrance is typically used in our skin, body and hair hygiene range. This blend is trusted and loved by all. It never offends but instead confirms the quality of the product and the refreshing sense it exudes just like after sun lotion to sunburn! We added the perfect amount of cucumber into the aloe vera which takes the refreshing sent to the next level!

Apple (Fruity, Fresh)

Fresh, crisp, fruity, sweet apple! Fragrance is subjective but this apple blend is loved by all and is considered one of the safest bets when you want a fragrance that everyone will love. Apple aromatherapy delivers enthusiasm, excitement, delight and freshness. Experience an uplifting environment where motivation and activity can thrive with genuine happiness and efficiency.

Baby Powder (Vanilla, Floral, Musk)

This special blend is Baby Powder with a mix of floral and musk added to it. This blend is especially popular for use around textiles like carpet, upholstery and curtains.

Deluxe (Fruity, Spicy)

This is an exclusive blend of fragrances that we accidentally whipped up decades ago that turned out great! The idea behind it was to find a blend that would be really effective on cigarette smoke odours. An anti-tobacco blends type of thing! It’s a tough one to explain but you will definitely get some spicy notes coming out of this as well as some sweet fruity ones too. It falls into our calming category where you feel calm and relaxed by it. Sometimes this is because the bad smells are gone! Deluxe is a strong but pleasant fragrance that hangs around and lets off some delightful fragrance notes.

Eden (Floral, Woody, Citrus, Fruity)

Inspired by the Garden of Eden, this fragrance is a very special blend of floral, woody, citrus and fruity notes. In the end, you get this inviting, relaxing, divine, fresh and absolutely beautiful fragrance that’s interesting as it slowly releases the different notes.

Eucalyptus (Camphoraceous)

Only the best will do! We use pharmaceutical grade eucalyptus essential oils made in Australia. You get the hygienic and premium smell of the Australian Eucalyptus tree with the added health and antimicrobial properties. It’s strong and bitey, and it smells of premium grade eucalyptus bliss.

Green Forest Pine (Camphoraceous)

This hygienic and fresh smelling fragrance is derived from the needles of the pine tree. It’s a strong premium grade fragrance that takes you for a walk through a healthy green pine forest. It’s got that clean smell to it!

Jellybean (Fruity, Sweet)

This is a sweet, juicy fruity, bubblegum, jelly bean fragrance that everyone loves! It has a fruity start to it with orange, lemon, blueberry, apple, strawberry, and pineapple notes, followed by star anise, clove and cinnamon in the middle, and it finishes off with sweet sugary wintergreen leaves.

Lavender (Floral, Aromatic)

Be warmly touched by the loving characteristics let off by this traditional lavender fragrance. 1.Why change your fragrances regularly?

When we overuse a fragrance, our sense of smell can become desensitised over time. Our noses can no longer pick up the strength or the different notes of the fragrance. That's why we recommend rotating your fragrances every time you order. Most people have 2 or 3 favourites that they will rotate between.

2. What is the best fragrance for removing smells and bad odours?

Fragrances can freshen a space and make it smell wonderful. If you are also looking for a long term solution for odour problems, fragrances are an important part, but only a part of the solution. For odours to be permanently eliminated the fragrance needs to be accompanied by the correct odour removal chemistry and make contact with the source of the odour for a suitable period of time.

3. What fragrance do you recommend for dog, cat and pet odours?

Choosing any fragrance in our Odour Kill, Pee Off and Oradicator products will work a treat. Fragrance is also very popular because the technician knows how they are going with progress on the odour.

4. Are your fragrance products safe to use around pets and animals?

"Namibia is the driest country in Sub-Saharan Africa, and home to two of the world’s most ancient deserts, the Kalahari and the Namib. The capital, Windhoek, is sandwiched between them, 400 miles away from the nearest perennial river and more than 300 miles away from the coast. Water is in short supply.

It’s hard to imagine life thriving in Windhoek, yet 477,000 people call it home, and 99 per cent of them have access to drinking water thanks to technology pioneered 55 years ago on the outskirts of the city. Now, some of the world’s biggest cities are embracing this technology as they adapt to the harshest impacts of climate change. But Namibia leads the way.

How did this come about? In the 1950s, Windhoek’s natural resources struggled to cope with a rapidly growing population, and severe water shortages gripped the city. But disaster forced innovation, and in 1968 the Goreangab Water Reclamation Plant in Windhoek became the first place in the world to produce drinking water directly from sewage, a process known as direct potable reuse (DPR).

That may sound revolting, but it’s completely safe. Dr Lucas van Vuuren, who was among those who pioneered Windhoek’s reclamation system, once said that “water should not be judged by its history, but by its quality”. And DPR ensures quality.

This is done using a continuous multi-barrier treatment devised in Windhoek during eight years of pilot studies in the 1960s. This process – which has been upgraded four times since 1968 – eliminates pollutants and safeguards against pathogens by harnessing bacteria to digest the human waste and remove it from the water. This partly mimics what happens when water is recycled in nature, but Windhoek does it all in under 24 hours...

“We know that we have antibiotics in the water, preservatives from cosmetics, anti-corrosion prevention chemicals from the dishwasher,” Honer explains. “We find them and we remove them.”

Honer adds that online instruments monitor the water continuously, and staff ensure that only drinking water that meets World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines is sent to homes. If any inconsistencies are detected, the plant goes into recycle mode and distribution is halted until correct values are restored.

“The most important rule is, and was, and always will be ‘safety first’,” says Honer. The facility has never been linked to an outbreak of waterborne disease, and now produces up to 5.5m gallons of drinking water every day – up to 35 per cent of the city’s consumption.

Namibians couldn’t survive without it, and as water shortages grip the planet, Windhoek’s insights and experience are more important than ever.

Interest from superpowers across the globe

In recent years, delegations from the US, France, Germany, India, Australia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates have visited Windhoek seeking solutions to water shortages in their own countries.

Megadrought conditions have gripped the US since 2001, and the Colorado River – which provides 40 million people with drinking water – has been running at just 50 per cent of its traditional flow. As a result, several states including Texas, California, Arizona and Colorado are beginning to embrace DPR.

Troy Walker is a water reuse practice leader at Hazen and Sawyer, an environmental engineering firm helping Arizona to develop its DPR regulations. He visited Windhoek last year. “It was about being able to see the success of their system, and then looking at some of the technical details and how that might look in a US facility or an Australian facility,” he said. “[Windhoek] has helped drive a lot of discussion in industry. [Innovation] doesn’t all have to come out of California or Texas.”

Namibia has also helped overcome the biggest obstacle to DPR – public acceptance. Disgust is a powerful emotion, and sensationalist ‘toilet to tap’ headlines have dismantled support for water reuse projects in the past. Unfortunately, DPR’s biggest strength is also its biggest weakness, as the speed at which water can re-enter the system makes it especially vulnerable to prejudice, causing regulators to hesitate. “Technology has never been the reason why these projects don’t get built – it’s always public or political opposition,” says Patsy Tennyson, vice president of Katz and Associates, an American firm that specialises in public outreach and communications.

That’s why just a handful of facilities worldwide are currently doing DPR, with Windhoek standing alongside smaller schemes in the Philippines, South Africa and a hybrid facility in Big Spring, Texas. But that’s all changing. Drought and increased water scarcity worldwide are forcing us to change the way we think about water.

Now, the US is ready to take the plunge, and in 2025, El Paso Water will begin operating the first ‘direct to distribution’ DPR facility in North America, turning up to 10m gallons of wasterwater per day into purified drinking water – twice as much as Windhoek. San Diego, Los Angeles, California, as well as Phoenix, Arizona are also exploring the technology."

Of course, DPR is not a silver bullet in the fight against climate change. It cannot create water out of thin air, and it will not facilitate endless growth. But it does help cities become more climate resilient by reducing their reliance on natural sources, such as the Colorado River.

As other nations follow in Namibia’s footsteps, Windhoek may no longer take the lead after almost six decades in front.

“But Windhoek was the first,” Honer reminds me. “No one can take that away.”"

“How does this work again?”

You were stumbling over the rocks in the cavern behind the waterfall, the gems above you still glowing with that unearthly sheen that didn’t seem to need a light source to reflect it. Bucky was holding your hand, helping you step over some of the more significant tripping hazards.

“We can’t use any of your electronics to contact our worl-” Steve hesitated, “-the old world. The frequency there is slower. But the stones act as a conduit and we can amplify the signal here.”

You eyed the setup- a suspiciously simple device that looked like a phone and a huge monitor. “Did you bring this over with you?”

Bucky chuckled, leading you over to the screen, which was glowing with the same soft hue as the gems. “No, we learned that lesson. Everything that’s not organic- flesh, cotton, leather- fritzed out and exploded. Two of the first parallels showed up mostly naked and with second-degree burns. This is all jerry-rigged, but it works.”

“This is so voodoo…” you mumbled as the glowing screen morphed into an image of Nicholas Fury, whose eyepatch was on his right eye, rather than his left.

“So you’re the one who’s been causing all the problems,” he growled, not even bothering to greet Bucky and Steve.

“Sorry, Commander… Captain…?” You looked over for help and Steve supplied “General.”

“General Fury,” you corrected, “but getting kidnapped and white-roomed wasn’t my idea of a honeymoon.” He leaned closer to the screen, an even larger scowl digging into his features and you waved your hand. “However, let’s not waste time.”

“If you think you have something we haven’t seen, this would be the time to share it.” He sounded cold and composed, like your Fury, but he was haggard, skin greyish and the room behind him was shabby, people in ragged uniforms or street clothes moving back and forth behind him, everyone with an air of urgency. Even the lighting seemed greyer.

“This came to mind after I understood that fire can take out the smoke entities. I’m sure you’ve tried every kind of flame and blast-based weaponry, but Steve-” you looked over to verify and he nodded, smiling at you, “-Steve told me they rebuild numbers by hiding in major bodies of water.”

“True,” Fury rubbed under his eyepatch with his thumb. “We tried chemical weapons, conventional weaponry, even wasted most of the Australian continent with a nuclear weapon, which poisoned the oceans up to Japan and through Malaysia and Indonesia. We launched nuclear weapons again in Russia at the biggest cluster of them we could target. Minimal damage. To the entities, at least. I’d like Stark to hear this but he’s rigging up an ariel explosion sequence right now.”

“Okay, hear me out, last month, I was reviewing some research documents for Director Fury about a new Thermite composition. Thermite is spectacular because it doesn’t need oxygen to burn-”

“Yes, yes,” Fury interrupted. “It has been extremely effective for us here, but since it forms its own vapor barrier, it cannot be used underwater.”

“There’s something new,” you cut in, and you could tell by his irritable face that people did not interrupt Fury. But you were all short on time. “The new Thermite research here utilized metastable intermolecular composites, which kept the high boiling point at 2887 Celsius. It burns underwater. You can set an endpoint by releasing nanothermites in a timed charge. I can access the research again- it’s not at such a high-security level that it will set off too many internal alarms. We can alter the composition by…what was it with Dr. Banner’s work? The key numbers were all exactly .05% off from our Earth’s formulas. I can correct the composition within minutes and I’m guessing you have all the metal components needed?”

There was something strange with Fury’s expression. On anyone else, you might assume it was cautious optimism, but you didn’t think he was familiar with that emotion. “We do.”

“General, if you can track the clusters, you can bomb the shit out of them from the air and block them from reproducing.” Your expression clouded, “But you will be superheating the body of water for about a mile around the detonation site. There’s going to be more marine life destruction. But… you have a chance.”

“I’ve never seen Fury speechless before,” Bucky whispered to Steve behind you. There was a low grunt which sounded like Steve had nailed him in the side with his elbow.

“How soon can you get it to us?” The general’s voice was hoarse with exhaustion. “Gentlemen, I don’t need to tell you how dire this is; the situation here has speeded up the Doomsday clock. You have to destroy the space fold and the vortex within the next twenty-four hours. Even if this new formula works, we can’t risk…”

You looked at this even harder, colder version of your Director Fury, you watched the emotionless expressions of the people passing behind them. Of course, Steve and Bucky were harsher, even cruel, of course the other Avengers were. Their entire lives were spent fighting against the inevitable end.

Bucky and Steve shared a look. “What about Tony and Natasha?”

“I’m getting them out of here within the next twelve hours, but we’re burning out the connection on our side. You have to be ready to handle it there. How big was the entity that got through the vortex?”

Bucky rubbed his face with both hands for a moment. “We got lucky. It was a baby. That must be how it slipped through the sensors.”

The men moved into some entity and astrophysics talk that you couldn’t follow with your exhausted brain already trying to put together the information you needed, so you jumped a little when Steve put an arm around you.

“Are you ready to head back to the house, sweetheart?”

And for the first time since he’d kidnapped you, that actually sounded like a good idea.

There was coffee, much coffee for the rest of the night, and you didn’t even notice the sun’s early rays washing the bay in front of the house with a golden sheen. You were lucky; they hadn’t changed your passwords in the Washington DC offices, which you personally thought was a little sloppy. But you got what you needed. The next meeting with Fury was terrifying. He was in a different location, and there were wounded being dragged by others who looked just as bad. He took the information you’d sent him and passed it to another aide without expression.

“Tony and Natasha will be paralleling as soon as he checks the numbers here. They’re the last.”

“How many more were you able to get out,” Bucky asked. He looked stoic, but you could see him gritting his teeth.

“Only another 120 or so,” Fury said.

“But- they thought they could parallel another couple thousand people at least!” Steve protested.

Fury chuckled in the most humorless way you could imagine. “We’re down to one platform, Rogers. The rest of them were overrun by the entities. The workers detonated the platforms - and themselves - to keep the entities from reaching them.” His single eye focused on you. “Thank you for your service,” he nodded.

You gave a wet little chuckle, the enormity of it all was finally slamming into you like a punch to the heart. “I wish our Director Fury could have met you. I can only imagine how incendiary that meeting would be. I… I wish you the best.” You nodded firmly. ”This can work. I’m absolutely certain.”

“I am afraid we will not be able to update you, but I hope you’re right.”

Walking on the edge of the waterfall, looking down you remembered jumping off the rock ledge with Steve and screaming on the way down, not entirely sure how you would land. Your entire life felt that way right now. Steve and Bucky were still talking to Fury in low tones, their faces grim.

But walking back to the house, they were silent, slowing down as they approached the location of the vortex, staring into the dark mass of trees and vines.

“C’mon,” Steve finally says, “we all need to shower and get ready to…” He exchanges a long glance with Bucky and you feel your stomach churn. The look they’re giving each other is the bleak one Fury wore during your last discussion.

“Get ready to what?” Their long legs are carrying them away and you trot after them. “To do what?”

By the time you reach the terrace, they’re both stripping down by the outside shower. Even though this place has been your prison, you instantly loved this set-up; a large space, glassed-in on three sides with a grey slate floor and multiple copper showerheads to flow in every direction.

Pausing, you can’t help admiring the sheer beauty of these two. They may be heartless bastards, but you can understand why they were so hard. They’re softening in their treatment toward you, which gives you hope that there’s some humanity left. Steve said he’d send you back to Washington DC, but you can’t go back now.

They’re both naked now, Bucky with his beautiful, bulky musculature and his glistening Vibraniam arm, and Steve with his perfectly sculpted body. His big, capable hands washing his hair, turning it darker from the water as the white suds slip over broad, tanned shoulders and down that chest you used to lick, trailing each abdominal muscle in his eight-pack with the tip of your tongue.

Shit. Your mouth is actually watering.

Marching over, you turn both showerheads to cold. It doesn’t even cause them to blink, still mechanically washing off the soot and filth from last night. “Okay…” you hiss, turning off the main switch to the outdoor system and blocking them from turning it back on. “Get ready to do what?” They share another glance and you yell this time. “Stop doing that having a conversation thingie with a mere glance! Tell me what the fuck is about to happen!”

Bucky’s long hair is dripping, and he pushes it out of his face. “Doll, we have to close the fold in space from our side here. And we have to destroy the vortex so nothing else can come through. It’s… Look, I think Steve is right to send you back to DC.”

“Well- well no, Bucky!” you spluttered, “it’s not right and I’m not going! I think I’ve proved that I can help with whatever the hell your earth is tossing into ours. If you two can get hurt, I can… I should be here, and I will help, so that-”

“Sweetheart.” Steve’s long-ass arms wrap around you from behind, and he bends his bulk over to rest his chin against your shoulder. “I was selfish to bring you here. I was stupid, trying to break you and wasting the time I might have had with you if I’d done this right. But the reality is, everything we planned on is gone. The entities are tearing through our defenses like tissue paper. We thought we had months, maybe years. It’s looking more like a few days.”

“But, I know the new Thermite composition will work! They can drive them back to the oceans and burn them inside out, it’ll work!”

His cheek brushed against yours as he spoke, and his golden stubble rasped against your cheek. “I know it will, sweetheart. It’s genius. But we’ll never know because we have to close any possible connection from here to there. And we don’t know if the detonations will…”

Steve’s voice drifted off, you’d never heard his firm, commanding voice weaken. He was never afraid to tell the harsh truth.

“Could this- could you two die trying to do this?” Your lungs felt like they were filled with lead, like it was impossible to draw a full breath.

Bucky sighed. “Yes.”

You don’t know what to say, so you turn the water back on, grab a big, soapy sponge and run it across Steve’s chest, swirling it around his nipples and down each sculpted arm. Lathering it up again, you wash Bucky’s back, putting a line of kisses against the thick knots of scar tissue where his shoulder meets his vibranium arm. Smiling at his impertinent grin, you run your fingers through his long hair, gently massaging his scalp and working the shampoo through each strand. Then, it’s back to Steve, soaping his exquisitely chiseled ass, squeezing each firm cheek with a little sigh. Long before you’d loved this man, you had loved this ass. Watching him run through the streets in Manhattan in those thin sweatpants? Oh, my god.

Wait. That wasn’t this Steve, that was my St-. No, that Steve was never mine. You were a placeholder. But this Steve traveled through a parallel fold in space which was still freaking you the fuck out and you would need a more detailed explanation later but…

You realize your hands have slowed during your extended mental ramble, and they’re both looking at you with little grins. Not big ones, the kind you would want to smack right off their faces. Just… small ones. Like they enjoyed your weird little quirks.

And then they take the soap, and the sponge, and their big, rough hands, and they clean you. Everywhere. Every crevice. You have never been so clean. You’re between them, pressed against Bucky’s chest, your head lolling against his shoulder. Steve is soapy, you’re soapy, and he’s rubbing himself hard against you. His thigh slides up between yours, and your knees instantly weaken, which… just pushes your center down on all those beautifully chiseled muscles.

Bucky, damn him, is kissing along your jaw, whispering filthy things. “You have no idea how gorgeous you look right now, your hips circling and pushing your pretty little pussy down hard on his leg.” You can feel him, hard and hot against the small of your back.

“You should probably kiss me,” you whisper to him even while having no idea why you’re whispering.

Bucky’s chest is shaking and you realize the little bastard is laughing. “Why are we whispering?” he whispers. His hands slide to your hips and he’s helping you move faster along the long, long thigh of Steve Rogers, who is currently cupping your breasts in his hands, rolling your nipples with the tips of his fingers and looking very interested.

Native: Mostly in intertidal zones of Southern Hemisphere coastlines

Ecology:

Ecklonia demonstrates how the climate emergency can impact marine ecosystems. This species of kelp grows 1m tall and usually grows down to 25m in depth. In recent decades it has been thriving where Giant kelp forests are disappearing, due to rapid warming of the Australian east coast current. It’s most noticeable around Tasmania, where the warm nutrient poor waters displace the cooler nutrient rich southern currents. Each Giant kelp plant can grow up to 40m tall, being the largest marine algae in the world, with whole forests supplying food and habitat for countless fish and other marine species.

Water off the east coast of Tasmanian is a global heating hotspot. Over the last century, a temperature rise of 2C has caused 95% of Tasmania’s kelp forests to disappear. This has been exacerbated by the native sea urchin feeding on the weakened plants to create marine deserts. Sea urchin populations have exploded along the east coast, due to the depletion of their natural fish predators from over fishing and loss of their kelp forrest habitat.

Ecklonia dominates the ecological niche environment left behind by Giant kelp and joins a growing list of native species becoming invasive due to climate change. On a positive note, scientists from the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies are currently trialling selective breeding to produce a variety of giant kelp more suited to warmer waters. Ecklonia plays a role in my current research into parallel relationships between fermented foods, the human-microbiome and the ecosystems we depend on. In 2021 I developed a range of fermented food products for the exhibition Plant Treaty at Lismore Regional Gallery, under the now defunct business ECO GUT. Each product contained a specific plant ingredient – native or endemic to a specific ecology under threat. I made Pacific Kimchi with locally sourced ingredients, including green papaya and Ecklonia foraged from Northern Rivers beaches.

Foraging:

Ecklonia can be found washed up on beaches immediately after large swells from Southerly weather systems. Collect it before it starts to rot on the sand and wash it in clear seawater. Dry it on your clothesline in the sun, because it dries faster and ultraviolet light is thought to make nutrients in sundried plants more bioavailable when eaten. Foraging is an ancient practice gaining popularity around the world. Alternative food practices play a major role in my research and collaboration projects, through engagement with diverse cultural histories and community initiatives, such as migrant community gardens and First Nations agriculture & connections to place through local edible species. When undertaken with care and consideration, foraging is one of many food practices that highlight the unsustainability of modern extractivist style farming. Monoculture farming depletes soil microbial health and fertility, thereby depending on chemical fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. It diverts and drains water from land and contaminates aquifers, leading to the collapse of biodiversity.

Foraging comes with responsibility. Always remember, it’s not just about free food and getting into nature, foraging is in effect a form of agriculture and caretaking of land. It requires awareness of your surroundings and just a little effort each time to maintain and supporting biodiversity for stronger ecosystems we all depend on. The scale of the problem is enormous. It is estimated that Chinese factories churn out 400 billion cigarettes each year to be sold in cities around the world. These cigarettes are then sold for a fraction of their retail price, paying no tax at all. Lab tests have shown that they contain lethal chemicals, including five times more cadmium, six times more lead, and 160 percent more tar than legal smokes.

Crime syndicates are flooding the country with fakes, using a combination of international mail, air and sea cargo, and lax work practices and supervision to avoid detection. The taskforce works closely with its counterparts overseas to disrupt the supply chains and track down the importers.

Illegal tobacco store online trade has increased significantly in Australia, fuelled by criminal syndicates that see it as a low risk, high reward opportunity. This lucrative market results in large losses to government revenue and encourages tobacco use, and threatens Australia’s ability to achieve its national commercial tobacco endgame goals of 5 % smoking prevalence by 2030 (Wood, 2021).

The growing operations are often hidden away on private land and disguised as vegetable crops such as kale or cabbage. The crop is then harvested and shipped to the Australian black market, where it is sold for profit. The profits from this illicit business are used to fund organised crime and corrupt local politicians.

Pike believes that the federal government needs to rethink its approach to the problem. He advocates harsher penalties for retailers and a dedicated taskforce. He also supports a higher tax on cigarettes, which he believes would push existing smokers back to legal tobacco products.

Criminal syndicates

As the tobacco industry becomes increasingly deregulated, organised crime syndicates have begun to infiltrate it. Criminals infiltrate the industry because it generates enormous profits and poses little risk of punishment compared to other illegal activities such as drug smuggling or gun running. This soaring profit potential has led to a rise in illicit tobacco use, costing the Australian government billions of dollars.

The illicit tobacco market is a significant source of funding for serious organised crime, with the proceeds helping to fund gangs involved in robberies and human

trafficking. In addition, it results in enormous losses of tax revenue for the Commonwealth and undermines Australia’s national commercial tobacco endgame goal of 5 % smoking prevalence by 2030.

Victoria Police have raided more than 30 tobacco stores in recent weeks, with

Taskforce Lunar executing warrants alongside representatives from the AFP, Australian Border Force, and Therapeutic Goods Administration. They found more than 41,000 e-cigarettes and a haul of illicit cigarettes worth over $1m.

Public health

The rising illicit tobacco trade threatens to undermine Australia’s world-leading tobacco control policies, and is particularly damaging for people on low incomes. Several policy measures could mitigate this problem, including implementing a track and trace system, increasing investment in the Australian Border Force to improve detection of illicit tobacco at Australia’s borders, encouraging public tip-offs, and developing meaningful penalties for retailers and criminal syndicates involved in illegal sales.

The Australian Government recently endorsed the National Tobacco Strategy 2023-

2030, which includes a target to reduce daily smoking prevalence to 5 % or less by 2030. The strategy also includes a target to reduce the supply of tobacco products, which is an important step in achieving these goals. The government has indicated that it will reform the existing patchwork of eight separate tobacco laws by creating a single, streamlined act and introducing new measures. These changes are expected to re-energise the fight against tobacco addiction and improve public health outcomes.
