Jake grabbed another cup of coffee as his phone rang. He pulled it out to see that it was a facetime call from his sister, Jen.
Oh, shit the dress…
He answered the call, greeted giggling and a black screen. “Hello?”
“Jess found the perfect dress!” his mother practically screamed into the phone.
Jake couldn’t help the smile on his face, excited for his youngest sister’s wedding.
“Jake, you will not believe how perfect it is,” Jen’s voice rang out.
“Well, are you going to show me or am I just gonna stare at a black screen?”
“Mom, give me the phone.” He was quickly met with the view of his sister in her white gown. It suited her style and personality perfectly.
“Okay what do you think? You see the dress, right?” the youngest Seresin gave a twirl.
“Yeah, I see, and you look beautiful, sis.”
Jess grabbed the phone from her sister’s hand and turned it so he could see her face. “You see how happy and excited I am.”
Jake gave her a slightly confused look “Yes… where are you going with this, Jess?”
“All this to say that I don’t want to freak you out but… I invited Y/N and she’ll be the second in my wedding party next to Jen. David wanted you to be the second groomsmen next to his brother and all of this is to say that you and Y/N would be paired when walking down the aisle. And I know you two have a past but she’s my best friend and it’s been years and- “
“Jessica!” Jake cut her off before she could spiral completely, overthinking every decision she's made to this point. “It’s okay. She’s your best friend. If she’s fine with it, I’m fine with it.” Jake gave her a smile that assured her that everything would be okay.
That conversation was months ago, and it was just hitting Jake now, as his plane was about to land in Austin that not only would he have to see you, but you would be partnered with him for his little sister’s wedding.
Before he knew it, he was standing in the wings of the chapel watching as David prepared to walk down the aisle to take his place. He had yet to see you, somehow avoiding it until the very last minute. He watched as the other bridesmaids and groomsmen made their way into the center and down the aisle before he was greeted with the sight of you. You were breath taking, hardly changing since the last time he saw you. The lilac dress hugged your curves and fit perfectly. A gentle wind from the open doors blew through your hair.
In a flash every memory he had ever shared with you came rushing back.
When you looked up to meet his gaze you could feel your cheeks become warm. He was just as handsome as you remember. You were met with his signature smile and couldn’t help but let your eyes linger over his body. His tailored suit emphasized his muscles, ones that had been their prior but had become more prominent during his time with the Navy.
You stepped towards one another and placed your arm through his before making your way to the front of the chapel.
He leaned his head ever so slightly towards you, “You look beautiful.”
“You don’t look so bad yourself, Lieutenant.”
Jake had to stifle a laugh at your comment.
Once at the altar, you removed your arm from his and he watched as you took your place.
Jake couldn’t take his eyes off you the entirety of the ceremony. You tried your best to pay attention and watch as your best friend married the love of her life, but you couldn’t help stealing quick glances and thinking back to the memories you shared with Jake. The man you thought at one point was the love of your life, and at times, like right now, still believed that might be true.
You always believed Jake Seresin was your 'one that got away.' The two of you had dated in high school before reluctantly and amicably breaking up after you got accepted into college and Jake got accepted into the Naval Academy.
After the wedding you found yourself walking around the reception before resting your eyes on Jake, who was sitting at the bar drinking a whiskey on ice. He looked up from his glass to be greeted with the sight of you.
Before you knew what was happening you found yourself taking the seat next to him and ordering your drink of choice.
The two of you found yourselves talking about everything, your work, the navy, the wedding. Neither of you could help it as the conversation turned to the two of you and how things used to be.
As the reception came to a close and people began to part ways, Jake turned to you. “Need a ride home?”
You took barley a moment to think about the offer, “yeah… that would be great. Thank you.”
After saying your goodbyes, the two of you made your way towards his truck. He opened the door and offered you his hand to help you steady yourself. Once you were seated, he gathered any remanence of your dress and placed it beside you before closing the door and making his way to the driver’s side.
The 30-minute drive back to your house was spent in silence except for the soft sounds coming from the radio.
Then you rolled in with your hair in the wind
Baby, without warning…
Halfway through the drive, it had started to gently rain. But, right as he pulled into your gravel driveway it began to pour.
Just as you were about to put your hand on the door, Jake placed his hand gently on your shoulder. “Put this on.” He handed you his suit jacket before running out and making his way to the passenger side door. You quickly put his jacket on before he opened the door.
“Jake what are you doing?” He smiled helping you down from the truck before scooping you up into his arms carrying you up the driveway and onto the porch. “You idiot, you’re soaked!”
He gently set you down, “I couldn’t have you running up your gravel driveway in heels in the rain.” He gently removed a soaked strand of hair off your cheek. “Knowing you, you would have fallen flat on your face.” His hand lingered on your soft skin that was bringing back a flood of memories.
You stared into his eyes; they held a sense of longing. Before you knew it your arms were wrapped around his neck and your lips were on his. His lips were warm and soft, bringing you a sense of familiarity you had thought to be long forgotten.
He was the first to pull away ever so slightly, resting his forehead against yours, “I missed you… I thought I was okay but seeing you today… Y/N you hit me like a hurricane. I have never stopped loving you and I never want to let you go again.”
You pulled him in closer, arms wrapping around him, resting your head against his chest, “Then don’t.”
“But I have to go back to base and-”
Before he could spiral, you kissed him again, then every so slightly pulled away to look him in the eyes, “did you mean it when you said you never stopped loving me?”
His eyes said it before the words came from his lips, “With everything I have.”
“Then we’ll figure it out.”

The Life We Built (Joel Miller)
Part 5 of Build You The World Joel X Reader Rating: PG-13 (Language) Warnings: fluff, that's it. I have another Joel Miller idea in the works. Check out my Masterlist for some Javier Peña works as well! Thank you everyone for your support! Words: 1998
Series Master List | Author Master list
Joel eased into the chair next to you under the pergola he built 25 years ago. It was still sturdy and spoke to Joel’s craftsmanship. The sun was beginning to set, granting some relief to the spring heat as you watched your three grown children clean up the backyard. They’d insisted the two of you relax.
Emma graduated from Duke last weekend with honors in Pre-med. Which meant traveling to North Carolina for the ceremony. Joel has insisted on driving up. He hated flying. With a 20-hour car ride one way, you caught up on a lot of reading and almost booked yourself a plane ticket home. The two of you had been gone for almost a week. So her graduation party took place this weekend at home. She’d been accepted into UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine and would be going back to Durham in a couple of weeks. She was officially moving out, boxes already stacked high in her room. You and Joel both chose not to think about your baby leaving the nest for good.
Emma laughed at something Asher said. You couldn’t see Sarah roll her eyes, but you knew by her body language. Joel chuckled next to you. He sensed it too, both in tune with your children.
Asher graduated with a Bachelor's in Engineering from UT-Austin a few years ago, choosing to stay close to home. He had a small apartment in town working at Miller Construction since graduation. Joel joked that if he didn’t put his degree to use soon, he was gonna have to rebrand as Miller and Son. You had a sneaking suspicion that’s what Asher wanted. He and Joel shared the same love of building things with their hands.
“Grandpa!” Sarah’s 3-year-old daughter, Jessie bounded across the yard, dark curls bouncing like springs behind her. You could see the brightly colored book in her grasp.
She panted heavily as she reached the two of you. Her small hands rested on Joel’s knees. She looked up through dark lashes. “Will you read this to me?”
Joel smiled. She reminded you so much of Sarah at her age. “Don’t you want grandma to do it? She’s a much better reader than me.”
“No, you!”
“Okay, Okay.” Joel chuckled, pulling the child onto his lap. You closed your eyes as you listened to Joel read. His drawl had only deepened with age but it still flowed like honey. It soothed your weary bones and often brought you through time, making you feel 25 again.
Sarah had started college at the University of Georgia but transferred to UT-Austin after her freshman year. She loved Georgia, but she missed being close to her family more. She’d earned her Bachelor's in Journalism and Creative Writing (also with Honors). Working across all aspects of journalism, she went back to get her MFA several years later. She worked freelance for several publications and taught a creative writing class at the community college in town. She’d married Mike 6 years ago. They’d been together since senior year of college aside from a one-year gap. They’d bought a house just down the street from you and Joel soon after their wedding. Jessie’s 4th birthday was next week, and aside from her husband, you were the only other person to know that Sarah was 8 weeks pregnant. They were planning to reveal it next on Father’s Day.
You and Sarah were convinced Joel didn’t have a clue. The two of you were desperate to surprise him. Other than his 45th birthday party, you and Sarah hadn’t been able to surprise Joel in the 31 years you’d loved him. He’d even figured out Sarah’s first pregnancy before they’d told anyone.
Joel continued to read. The world drifted further away only anchored by the sound of his voice. Sometimes a bird’s song drifted in and out. The warm breeze floated across your skin. Joel’s voice stayed constant.
“Grandpa… Shhhhh, grandma is sleepin.”
Joel looked up from the book. He smiled. The wrinkles around his eyes were well-defined now. “I think she’s just restin her eyes, kiddo.”
“That’s what you say when you’re sleeping!” Jessie giggled.
“Keep reading,” you said, keeping your eyes closed. “The story was just getting good.”
He looked at Jessie who nodded her head, and he continued.
The construction business had been good to Joel. Miller Construction kept its outstanding reputation throughout the years, something Joel worried about as the number of crews grew and his ability to check up on every job decreased. Joel spent most of his days on job sites in a supervisory capacity. He trained the new hires to meet his rigid standards, and his body took less wear and tear. He was able to spend more quiet morning moments with you. At 56 years old, he was still the best pitcher in the men’s rec softball league. He took every Thursday morning off to hang out with Jessie while Sarah taught her class at the Community College. He piddled in the garage on weekends, working on the next project. He’d just redone the kitchen cabinets. Tommy joked that Joel lived in partial retirement, but there was some truth to it. You liked seeing him take time
Joel finished the book as Sarah and Mike walked over. You slowly opened your eyes, letting the world envelope you once again.
“It’s time for us to go home, Bear,” Mike said.
Before Jessie could issue a complaint, Joel pulled her into a back-breaking squeeze. She laughed. He tickled her sides. “Grandpa!”
“I gotta make sure you meet your tickle quota.”
“I have! I have!” Jessie laughed, her cheeks turning red.
“Okay,” Joel let out a deep breath. “I think that’s enough for today.”
Jessie wrapped her arms around Joel’s neck, kissing his cheek. “Love you, Grandpa!”
“I love you too.” He kissed her cheek, patting her back. “I’ll see you on Thursday.”
Jessie slid off his lap, rushing to you. A chorus of goodbyes between parties rose in the corner of your backyard in hugs and handshakes. Jessie nestled into her father’s arms, eyes already beginning to droop.
Joel wrapped his arms around you. You leaned into him. His hands traveled down your back, lips finding yours. You grinned feeling warm and giddy. Even after all these years, he still had the same effect on you.
Gagging noises interrupted your moment. Asher and Emma stood on the porch directing said sounds at you.
“Get a room!”
“We don’t want to see that!”
Joel flipped them off before firmly grabbing your ass making a show of the steamy kiss he planted on you. You laughed. He kissed your neck softly.
“You’re gonna traumatize the kids.”
“They’re grown adults. They can leave.” He nuzzled into your neck. “I want to kiss my wife in our backyard.”
“Y’all are gross.” Asher chided.
“If it weren’t for us, you two wouldn’t be here,” Joel shouted back.
“You say that like it’s a good thing!” Emma responded. “Have you seen the world?”
“Hey,” You laughed. “You’re the saving grace of this family, Miss I’m going to be a doctor.”
Asher scowled. “Don’t say that. Her head will get bigger than it already is.” He ruffled Emma’s hair.
Emma rolled her eyes. “We’re done cleaning up. We’ll leave you two to do… that.” She motioned toward you and Joel. “Asher’s gonna take me out on the town.”
“Make smart decisions,” Joel called.
“Always!” Emma smiled.
The duo filed out of the backyard leaving you and Joel alone. Joel kissed your forehead as you swayed to a nonexistent tune.
When you finally stopped, you and Joel sought the respite of AC inside. Joel prepared a plate of leftovers for the two of you to share on the couch. You read as Joel watched the Baseball game on low volume. You propped your feet on his lap. His thumbs found the soles of your feet applying pressure. You hummed.
You had stepped down from your position at Miller Construction after Emma started high school. As much as you loved working with Joel and helping him build and expand the business, desires drew you elsewhere. You started working part-time at the public library. When their head librarian announced plans to retire, the city had offered to pay for you to get your Masters in Library Science providing you could give them a 10-year commitment. Daunting at first, you’d managed to complete the courses in 2 years via an online program. You work at the library full-time now. Joel often brought Jessie in on Thursday mornings along with a coffee for you. You tended to the garden on weekends. Joel replaced your raised beds a few years ago. You had the kids over for dinner once a week. You and Sarah walked the block on pleasant evenings. You spent lazy evenings on the couch with Joel, something that had rarely been a part of your marriage until the past few years.
“I’ve been thinking…”
You looked up from your book. “Uh oh, that’s never good.”
He tickled the bottom of your foot earning a squeal. Everyone talked about growing out of being ticklish. That had never happened to you. “I think it’s probably time to refinish the book nook.”
You glanced behind you, eyes trailing over the bookshelves Joel had built you more than 25 years ago. They’d been through it. The finish was peeling in a few places. The cabinet doors that lined the bottom were dented and scratched from a number of things bumping and running into it while raising 3 kids. You glanced at the farthest one, still stained with faint marks from Emma taking Sharpies to it when she was 3. Residue from stickers marked other areas.
“Sounds like a big project.”
“I’ve got the time.” Joel smiled.
He reached down beside him, revealing a gift bag. A simple brown paper bag with a gold ribbon neatly tied and curled. Sarah’s trademark. He handed it to you with a smile.
“This from you or Sarah?”
“Me.” Joel crinkled his nose. “Just asked Sarah to wrap it for you.”
You lifted the bag up and down. It felt like it was probably a book. It rarely wasn’t. “And what is this for?” You smiled at him.
“Just fulfilling my husbandly duties.”
You laughed as you untied the ribbon. Joel had taken your first line to him like an oath over the course of your relationship. He’d surprised you with a new book at random times. Sometimes you came home to one on the kitchen counter or your nightstand. Other times, wrapped or handed to you, each with an inscription detailing something he loved about you and how “Pretty” didn’t cut it.
You smiled at him, pulling a hardcover book out of the bag. You opened the front cover. A piece of paper slipped out. Before you could investigate, Joel’s handwriting caught your attention.
I don’t know if you’ve been counting, darling, but this is the 100th book I’ve given you. When I met you in that bar, I knew if I had the chance to give you just one, I’d be the luckiest man alive.
We always talked about going on a big trip for our 25th wedding anniversary. I know it’s a little bit late, but I booked us on that trip to Italy you were eying last year.
I’m sure it’ll be beautiful, but I still think the best view is you.
I love you, Darling.
You picked up the slip of paper: the booking confirmation set for mid-September. You looked up at Joel, tears blurring your vision.
He chuckled. “Surprise.”
You set the book carefully on the end table, moving onto Joel’s lap. “You hate flying.”
“But I love new places.” He kissed your nose. He still looked at you like you hung the galaxy. You imagined you looked at him the same. “And you.”
You kissed him, the words whispered for just the two of you. “I love you too.”

Laetitia Sadier- Rooting For Love (Drag City)
The album begins with “Who + What,” an eerie, moody keyboard-driven melody that builds with layers and layers of instruments and vocals. “I need to I want to I have to; Need to expand, want to expand; Embrace my Goddess; Escape the fortress; The walls are falling down, cultures are communing; Muses are converging; On the verge.” Track 2, ”Proteiformunite,” is the first of many French songs on this album. This time the bass gets the spotlight. Laetitia’s soft vocals take the listener away to another world. And then the band kicks in with a full-out jam! Next up, “Une Autre Attente," is another French track. Eerie keyboards and robotic piano are highlighted here, but the beautiful vocals truly add to this one. Check out the video:
youtube
Track 4, “The Dash,” is a soft, gentle, jazzy number complete with “Ba dee dup, Ba dee dup” Bossa Nova vocals. “Through the center; The discreet shine of your darkness; Eyes of children the heart of another; Things we fear are false; A current life; The place inside; Into the night slowly; Swells vitality.” Next, “Don’t Forget You’re Mine” has a stripped-down beginning, but eventually the music soars and swells with beats and strings. “Hey, don't scream with rage it’s vain. I’m not impressed, just exasperated again. A good slap is what you need; a good slap is what you want; take that take that, get up get up babe.” Track 6, “Panser L’inacceptable,” is another beauty of a song. It has a tropical feel to it. Love the horns here. Here’s the video:
youtube
Track 7, “The Inner Smile,” is possibly my favorite track with shifting flutes and a major jam near the end. It’s the most upbeat song on the album. “Smile at all parts of your being. Smile at the parts you’re aware of and those you’re not. Smile, smile and thank your whole body.” Next up, “La Nageuse Nue,” is a French-titled song with English lyrics this time. Laetitia gets deep with her poetry. “The dissolution beliefs; The singular world; Volunteers the ego. Social body, For a cleansing and healing, Experience. Which may turn the personality inside and out; Discloses the gold hidden within the heart.” Track 9,“ New Moon,” develops into a hypnotic blast of ambient sound. It actually came out way back in 2021. It’s one of those songs you just don’t want to end. A beautiful video directed by Laetitia and Tanya Small captures the song here:
youtube
The album closes with “Cloud 6,” a repetitive outer space choral vocal exercise complete with blasting horns. “You have a power I haven't got. I have a power you don’t have. We need all the power we can get. Our psyches, well-being, brutalised, The world renounces its liberty because it is in fear. Because it is in fear, because it is in fear.” More deep thoughts from Laetitia as we would expect. Another great one from Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier from start to finish. Make sure to check the tour schedule beginning in March to see if she’ll be hitting your part of the world. ERIC EGGLESON

Here is my birthday letter to The King of Rock and Roll Elvis Aaron Presley:
Dear Elvis,
Since I was born and raised in Memphis TN my whole life and I still live in Memphis to this day; you sir have changed my life in more ways than one!! Ever since I was a little girl, my parents would take my sister and I to Graceland on special occasions not to mention watched all your movies for movie night. As I got older, I kind of lost that connection with you while traveling city to city with my mother who was born and raised in the city life while my father on the other hand was born and raised in the country life which is something that has always been a part of me since birth. It wasn't until my family and I visited Sun Studio along with close friends to experience your first record deal along with famous musicians such as Johnny Cash until someone told me I have a little resemblance to you and stood on the same spot where you sang behind the microphone except I don't have raven black hair and blue eyes like you do but I took it as a compliment nonetheless?! Not too long ago, I was a bridesmaid at my friend's wedding in the chapel at Graceland seeing your wedding photos with Priscilla and the ceremony was beautiful! It wasn't until Austin Butler portrayed you in the movie Elvis and I felt a mix of deja vu and nostalgia all at once which brings me to happy tears!!! Elvis you have touched my unchained heart with your music, dramatic acting, sense of humor, and your kindhearted spirit!! I wish you were still around to give riding lessons and sing spiritual music and maybe give us dancing lessons but your legacy and spirit lives on even to this very day!!!
Happy birthday to yours truly,
Black Velvet 2023 ❤

Chapter 21
“My last name is Baker; I own a bakery. I guess I just thought it was my thing, you know?”
She has literally one personality trait, and by god, she’s going to stick to it!
It’s probably a good thing that her name wasn’t Dokter or something.
Grinning in return Ryan opened up a bottle of champagne and poured them each a glass, toasting to friends, love, and happiness.
Chapter 21 summary: They get up the next morning and start getting ready to go to Vegas. As they’re doing that, Jason reminds Kara that most women take their husband’s last name. This kind of throws Kara, who admits that she’s based 100% of her personality and hobbies off from her surname. Jason spews out some sexist claptrap about ownership of women, which is so fucking exhausting. Eventually, Kara agrees to change her name, but that she’ll still be Kara Baker professionally, which is fine with Jason.
They also talk about joining the mile high club, but that’s mercifully skipped over.
When they get to the hotel, they're so exhausted from everything that’s been going on that they barely have the energy to get checked in before they crash on the bed. They’re awoken hours later by Jamie calling, who says that she’s going to get Kara. Instead of going to meet up with Jamie and Eva, Kara climbs on top of Jason and the two of them fuck.
She then meets up with her friends, and they go find Kara a wedding dress.
Meanwhile, Jason goes and gets a ring for Kara.
They meet up at the courthouse to get a marriage certificate. Then they go to the chapel.
Chapter 22
The chapel was small and quaint, and Kara’s limousine arrived just before it was time to begin.
I’m too fucking to get angry over how this isn’t true. You can no longer get a quickie marriage in Vegas. It’s a 3 day wait period for a legal marriage now. (You can get fake-married by Elvis all you want, though.)
The sooner she finished up here in Austin, the sooner they would be together again.
Chapter 22 summary: They get married, everybody spends some time in the casinos, and then Jason and Kara bang. After this, the narration glosses over them enjoying the rest of their three-day weekend in Vegas before sending everybody home. Kara cries as she has to say goodbye to Jason at the airport, since he has to go back to work in Seattle, and she has to finalise things in Texas.
Chapter 23
They had spent the last week packing up all their belongings; Seattle was nice, but it wasn’t home. ; The winters had been hard on them, they were unaccustomed to the rain, and they were both more than ready to move back to Austin.
That semi-colon isn’t my typo, it was in the fucking book.
Editors? Lol who are they?!
And they were. They turned a page on the story of their life together and began the next chapter.
Chapter 23 summary: As you might have guessed, the final chapter takes place two years later. Jason is finished with his fellowship, and they’re beyond ready to move back to Texas. The narration spends some time glossing over what they’ve been doing the past two years, but like… If the book failed to make me care about them in 22 chapters, then it’s not going to get me to care in the last chapter.
After this, they go to the Florida Keys for a long-overdue honeymoon. However, when they get there, Kara complains that her period started, and she doesn’t want to go in the water, because it “might attract sharks”. Girl apparently doesn’t know what a freaking tampon is.
That night, Jason tells her not to start on her next pack of birth control pills, because he wants to try for a baby. The book ends with that.

Day 6
Viva la Popa! Today was an early morning to be in the papal audience with Mr. Francisco. We woke up early and scootered our way to a street outside the Vatican. We decided to grab an espresso, Americano, and pastries at a random cafe in the area while we scouted out where our tour was to begin. To our surprise, we ended up at the exact spot we needed to be to meet with our guide, Sandra!
Sandra was immediately awesome. A woman from Argentina, she took no bull from anyone. A tour group tried to cut in line and Sandra yelled at them for all of us to listen to over our headsets. Sandra explained how she has no patience for cutters and told us of a time two weeks ago when she yelled at a group of nuns trying to cut. She exclaimed “I’m going straight to hell!” But said to leave her a good review.
We waited in the long security line (Sandra told us to throw our bombs behind us) with many brides in their wedding dresses. Austin took a quick stop at a stand to get some rosaries for the Pope to bless.
Upon going through security, we got separated from our group which led to some anxiety as we were hearing Sandra over our headset and could tell our group was already sitting down and we hadn’t even gotten through security. As we walked in, we had no idea where our group was. Fortunately, Sandra was standing and we saw that they made their way to the front section. We reunited and found our seats. Sandra gave us some tips about the best spots to see the Pope in his journey around St. Peter’s square and she did not disappoint.
We listened to the Pope’s message and waited until we were pretty certain our things were blessed and we walked around the square a bit.
We had a few hours to kill before our tour of the Vatican museum so we stopped at a hip coffee shop to get our espresso and Americano. Joe grabbed a sandwich and we head to our tour.
We met our next tour guide, Maria, in the Vatican museum and she was wonderful. An art historian, she was theatrical and knowledgeable, making the art understandable to us. She gave us pointers for the Sistine chapel and other interesting tidbits.
Finally, we entered the Sistine chapel and took in all the beauty. We were surprised to not be rushed through and allowed to stay until we chose to leave. It was a great experience and we were impressed with what we saw. Good job, Michelangelo!
After the tour, we made our way to the hotel where we slept for a bit before going out around 8pm to check out the iconic sights of Rome. The Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. Both pretty but both very crowded. We amused ourselves watching a police officer whistle and point at whoever she chose for breaking rules.
We exhaustedly made it back to our hotel room and slept our last night in Rome!

Chicago-via-Madison quartet Slow Pulp released their newest offering "Doubt" this week. The single is lifted from their upcoming record Yard, which is set to release on September 29 via ANTI-. The laidback indie track spans just under 2.5 minutes long and the lush instrumentals add the perfect touch of summer. While the lyrics tackle self-doubt and looking to others to validate our own insecurities, the instrumental brings a brightness that pairs uniquely well.
“In my process to fight against self-deprecation, I found this strange new pattern popping up where I fished for critiques from others,” says lead singer Emily Massey. “I wanted people close to me to validate the things I hated about myself. Self-doubt had found a home in me, it felt safer to stay in this familiar negative space than to like myself. I thought if others shared that with me I wouldn’t have to do the work to change.”
