If you're still interested in writing steamy stuff for Raphael, then what about Raphael trying to deal with Tav purposely being a temptress and playing a slightly different game with him. She just chips away at the fiend's composure throughout the day - a languid stretch and moan here, a faint brush against the cambion in passing there - all completely innocuous and innocent things to any observers so Raphael can't really do anything without undercutting his image. By the end of the day Raphael is left so tightly wound up he's ready to pin his little mouse down and ravage her the moment he gets her alone.

He had not thought he needed a bodyguard, but, thanks to Korrilla and a decent offering of coin, his bodyguard came in the form of a certain little mouse.

According to his self-proclaimed ‘assistant’, a number of assassins were out to kill him. In response, Korrilla hired the most skilled and trustworthy person she knew (aside from ‘herself’) to keep an eye out while he made his way around Baldur’s Gate for a day of appointments.

Everything was going smoothly - at least when it came to the deals he was striking. However, underneath Raphael’s calm composure, his prideful plumage was getting ruffled the more the day progressed.

His little mouse kept teasing him.

She assumed herself to be clever, but he knew she knew what she was doing:

His mouse knew what she was doing when she had combed her fingers through the front of his hair minutes before their meeting with a member of nobility. She met his suspicious stare while she cursorily fussed with his locks, saying, “I’ve never seen you have a bad hair day before.”

He never had bad hair days.

His mouse knew what she was doing when she had taken to leisurely stretching as he discussed terms with a woman who hoped to gain fame and notoriety with help from a magical pact. His ‘bodyguard’ had moaned breathlessly when she leaned backwards while raising her hands above her head, and she had moaned when she bent down to touch her toes with her ass in his purview.

It was a lovely ass.

His mouse knew what she was doing when she had grabbed his arm and steered him into an alley en route to an appointment he spontaneously wished to cancel. Her body pressed against his - her finger on his lips as she shushed and told him, “I think we’re being followed.”

His control had slipped in that moment, for he could not stop his hand from brushing across her armored hip.

The final straw came when his mouse had decided to eat a banana (of all things) during an appointment with an esteemed client. She sat in a corner behind the client’s shoulder, and had been behaving decorously aside from the way she chose to… eat the fruit. He pretended nothing of note was going on, but he was bristling internally as he stood listening to his client monologue about their hopelessness while his mouse ‘innocently’ unpeeled and not-so-innocently ate her snack.

Utterly infuriating - the way she maintained eye contact with every bite, and he was reduced to forcing himself to pay attention to the matter at hand.

And the gall of licking her lips afterwards…

“We have one last appointment for the day, Little Mouse,” Raphael said, his tone clipped as they exited the Upper City abode. “It’s right this way…”

“I thought we just finished with your last appointment?” she asked while trailing a step or two behind.

Raphael disregarded her question, and he led them to the appointment location - a shadowed alley a block away. He walked into the offbeat, unbusy path, and when she followed, he swiftly grabbed his mouse and shoved her against the wall. His hot breath fanned across her face - his hands pinning her to the brick by her biceps…

“Is it the truth that assassins are after me, Little Mouse?” he murmured. Her pupils had dilated, and her lips looked inviting. “Or was the ‘danger’ presented a false element to this game you’ve put together? A game to tease and torment me?”

“Did I do something wro-”

“Don’t play coy with me - you’ve been asking for this all day.”

His mouse was silenced fully by a furious kiss that would see them both unravel.

Summary: Ezio knows he shouldn't have hope - but he still hopes that you might be found alive.

Warnings: ANGST, MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH, reader is tortured, torture!!! , cursing, violence, ezio going through loss again, alternate good ending at the bottom.

Author's Note: hii! this came to me at 1:30 am and i wrote until 3 am. this fanfic has two endings! the true one, bad, sad and painful. and the good one, which is found at the end. so in a certain sense, you can pick the one you think is best! (no one asked but my fav is the bad one) if you want, you can listen to the song that helped me write this fanfic i found by amber run. hope you enjoy!

It could have been three days or thirty days. You don't know anymore. You try to keep yourself awake, but the pain, thirst, and exhaustion are too much.

It is hard to move. Your legs and arms have been bound with heavy chains since you arrived, and the last piece of food you had was what a soldier threw on the floor four, three nights ago? It had a weird taste, but you were so hungry you ate in one piece.

It had been an ambush. As the mission leader, it was your responsibility to realize that. But you didn't. Giving time for the others to escape, you stayed. You killed as many as you could. You got captured and taken straight to Cesare. 

Cesar first bargained, saying all you had to do was share Ezio's locations and plans. He was going to reward you. He would make you part of the nobility. You spit on his face, getting your first broken rib that night.

They stripped you of your Assassin robe. You knew it was a tactic to shame you, but you didn't care. After being beaten up countless times, your honor no longer matters.

They have tried everything. To droll you in a bucket of water. Burn you with the heated point of a sword. Plucked one or two fingernails until you passed out with the pain. Not counting all bruises on your face and all over your body.

Cesare enjoys seeing you like this. He occasionally stops in front of your cell, tempting you: all you had to do was tell where your other fellow Assassins were. Where Ezio Auditore hid. 

You said nothing. You never opened your mouth. 

You heard from a few soldiers or thought you so, the leader of the Brotherhood was looking for you. Hunting. He had become even more ruthless, killing more and more guards. They had problems recruiting guards now. No one knew when they would get back home after work.

You didn't know if you wanted Ezio to find you, to see you like this. He wouldn't even recognize you.

You could only hope death took you before.

Ezio hasn't been thinking straight for ten days, four hours, and twelve minutes since the other Assassins returned without you. When he asked for an explanation, his heart already knew the answer. They explained there were too many. You had stayed.

"Dead?" Il Mentore asked, and they could feel the pain in his voice. They don't know.

Ezio didn't freak out. The anger from when he was an inexperienced and immature Assassin came back in full force. He was primarily angry at himself: he shouldn't have let you in. He shouldn't have allowed you to get so close. Why you had to be so stubborn? Why he accepted your help?

That same night, Ezio went out. Alone. Hunting for something to take his anger. Ezio didn't know when he stopped, but when he came to Tiber Island, his vests were full of blood.

Ezio fell into a chair, the hideout too quiet without your presence. Being the strategic leader at his side. Ezio wanted to feel your warmth. Your company. Your love. He can feel the tears dropping from his eyes, and he doesn't try to control them. He lets them run free.

When he went to bed, he had nightmares. Ezio saw his dad and his siblings hanged, screaming for help, and he can't do anything about it. Cristina dying in his arms, declaring her love, and he can't do anything about it. He saw you lying in a fetal position, your body pierced by arrows, blood dripping until his feet. Ezio tried to move but can't, desperately watching you die. 

Ezio couldn't save any of them.

When Machiavelli brings news that the templars are keeping an Assassin in a secret location, Ezio tries not to be hopeful. Deep inside, he wishes it isn't you. He has no idea what they can be doing with you.

"Where?" 

"Just outside Rome. I don't know the exact location, but I will try to get it. Ezio, it could be-"

"Let me know what you can find," Ezio murmurs before leaving.

He visits his mom and Claudia. His mom is sad and apprehensive. Claudia, on the other hand, tries not to mention your name.

"How are you doing?" Claudia wonders, her tone full of pain. His sister must be feeling terrible: you were Claudia's best friend.

"I want the body. I want to be able to bury it."

Claudia gulps, looking straight. They had dealt with death before, and deep inside, Claudia and Ezio expected it to become easier with time. Without controlling herself, she hugs her older brother, sobbing.

"Oh, Ezio, I am so so sorry."

"Me too," Ezio whispers back, his heart breaking into a million pieces.

You don't know why you are still alive. After another beat-up session, the guards seem to have given up on you. Even Cesare doesn't appear anymore.

Your clothes are dirty and ripped, and you can barely keep your eyes open. Your fingers are broken. They stopped giving you water. You know something is bleeding inside you; it is just a matter of time now.

You wish you could have seen Claudia. Maria. Leonardo. All your other Assassins. You wish you could thank them for all the lessons you got. You are happy they didn't come to save you.

You wish you could have seen Ezio one last time. Tell him it wasn't his fault.

When Machiavelli reveals the location, Ezio doesn't hesitate to go—joined by the same group you saved. The Brotherhood wants to give you proper rest. They know you wouldn't like that, risking the Brotherhood for a single Assassin, but it is you.

You are imprisoned in some fort just outside Rome, Machiavelli explained. For some reason, he didn't know the status of your life, but from what his informants saw, they were keeping you in a cell.

"Dead?" Ezio asks. There is no hope in his voice.

"They don't know. Ezio, do you think that is a good idea?"

Ezio doesn't know. He gets on his horse and is followed by the others. A small part inside of him is burning, inside his heart. It grows like a small flame that gets bigger on a cold and dark day.

It is hope.

You wake up with the sound of a distant explosion. Screams came followed, and the smell of fire. You try to lift your head, your survival instincts kicking in, but your body hurts too much. You wonder if you have arrived in Hell. You concentrate on the front door, your vision too foggy to see anything. You can hear the noises of a fight though you can't quite place what is happening yet.

You think you hear death calling your name.

Ezio is frozen in front of your cell. For a few seconds, he can't move or breathe. 

It is you. 

It is really you. 

It barely looks like you, though. In a fetal position, legs and arms are tied with heavy chains. Ezio holds the bars with an intensity that might break them. What the fuck have they done to you? He needs to get you out there. Now.

He calls your name.

You don't seem to listen. Ezio tries again, this time more urgent. 

You open your eyes, confused. You thought you heard Ezio calling. Trying to crawl across the floor, you focus your eyes on death.

It is Ezio. Hood down. You can barely see his face, but you know he looks as beautiful as ever.

"E...zi...o," You whisper. 

Ezio gets the keys from the guard impaled against the wall. He ignores his shaking hands and opens the door, rushing toward you. When he touches your face, your skin is so cold. He calls your name again, waking you up.

"Io sono qui, amore mio, sono qui."

You barely seem to register what he says. Ezio glances at your body. It doesn't look good, but he is determined to get you off there. He lifts your body, and you groan in pain.

"I am going to take you out of here," It is a promise.

Ezio takes you across the corridors, walking as carefully as he can. He didn't want you to feel more pain. He is thankful he brought a doctor. He has to hope you can make it.

The place around him is destroyed, being burned to the ground. Ezio had told the other Assassins to look for other innocents inside the prison.

"I always have been hopeful. Always hoping you were alive," Ezio confesses, his voice trembling as if you could listen.

You are passing moments of consciousness and unconsciousness. You know you were in Ezio's arms (he knew you hated to be carried like that). You try to say you loved him, that it's too late, but no words come out of you.

Ezio finally gets to the entrance. His fellow Assassins were in the front with a small group of people. All looked malnourished but not as bad as you. The doctor, who was checking them, runs to you as Ezio places you on the floor as carefully as he can.

He can't leave your side. Ezio touches your face. He touches your cheeks. Your forehead. Your ears. Trying to memorize your features.

Your eyes open, and you do your best to keep them open. You know it is the last time. You can notice the doctor assessing you. He seems to say something to Ezio, and he looks defeated. The doctor gives you space. Nobody else dares to get closer.

"You were brave. Very brave this whole time. I am sorry I didn't find you earlier, amore mio."

Ezio holds your hand into his face, his heart heavy. He breathes deeply. He wants to scream at the world, not again! He wants to shout, he wants the doctor to find a way to cure you. He wants you to live. You deserve to live. 

You have to live. 

Breathing deeply one more time, his voice shaking and the tears falling down his eyes, he finally says.

"Go in peace."

You give him a half-smile, ignoring the pain on your broken fingers as you rub your face a little. You were happy. You saw him one last time. Ezio knew you loved him.

Numerous memories flashed behind your eyes. Your family. Your family being killed. Meeting Ezio. Falling in love with him. Claudia teasing you but happy her brother found love again. Maria thanking you for giving him hope. Your experiments with Leonardo. Mario's death. The beginning of the Brotherhood. Your first night with Ezio.

Ezio.

Ezio.

You want to apologize. It is not his fault. You want to say you love him and wish him a happy life. He will find someone. He will be happy. You close your eyes, never to open them again. 

ALTERNATE ENDING (GOOD ENDING):

"We can try to move them, but it might be risky," The doctor warns as he returns, but Ezio ignores that. Leaving the rest of the Assassins to help the rest of the people, he places your body in the carriage with the doctor, focusing on taking you to the closest Inn, making sure to go slow.

He tries not to give himself hope, but you seem to be fighting.

The doctor says you aren't dead yet.

Ezio enters the Inn with you unconscious in his arms, the doctor at his side. The owners, an elderly older couple named Bianco and Pia, rush him to a room, where he places you gently into a bed.

The doctor asks Ezio to rip your clothes. He does so. Pia brings a bowl with water to clean your body. She doesn't say anything, but her eyes don't have much hope.

The doctor gives you a medicine that burns down your throat. He bandages pretty much your whole body and tells Ezio he has done everything he could. The following twenty-four hours are crucial.

Ezio doesn't sleep that night or most of the next day. He has seen a lot of things he would never forget, but your body would hunt him to his death. The elderly couple brings him bread and water, but he doesn't touch his food or water. Ezio is too focused on you to care about himself now.

When the doctor returns, he says your fever has spiked down. Your health is still critical, but your chances to live are higher.

Ezio holds into that.

He continues at your bed day and night. He hasn't taken his bloody clothes yet, and quite frankly, he is starting to smell. The old couple again suggests that he takes a shower. They have some clothes from their late son. When Ezio asks what happened to him, they simply answer that Bórgia men killed him.

Thirty-nine hours after rescuing you, Ezio falls asleep. Bianco finds him in a chair, keeping a vigil over your body.

Later that day, the doctor states you are out of danger. He doesn't know when you will wake up and if you ever will. For Ezio, that is enough. He knows you are a fighter, and you won't give up.

It is too dangerous to move you still. Ezio can't leave you. He starts helping around the Inn. He gets some thieves to run away, helps the couple get their money from a man who owes them and maintains the Inn as best as possible.

Ezio talks to you. He shares how life is going. Holds your hand. He shares that he misses you. That he loves you. 

He can see your face slowly healing, but no sign of you waking up. He has sent some pigeons informing Claudia, his mom, and the rest of the Brotherhood of your well-being. 

On the morning of the seventh day of your rescue, Ezio is helping Bianco in the garden when he hears Pia's scream. 

"Ezio, Ezio!"

Running to the house, Ezio enters the room. Pia is near the bed, giving you water and gently holding your head. You are awake.

Ezio stops by the other side of the bed, unable to speak. Pia smiles at him, leaving them. You try to talk, but no voice comes out. 

"I thought, I thought I lost you," Ezio confesses, slowly kneeling at your side. "I thought I was going insane. I thought I was getting punished again."

He kisses your bandaged hand so gently that you don't even wince in pain. You want to ask him many questions about how he found you and how you are still alive. Ezio seems to understand your concerns, rubbing your cheek.

"I will explain with time. Just rest now. Rest, amore mio. I will be here when you wake up."

You look at Ezio, really looks at him. Wondering if he can feel the love in your eyes. Ezio seems to understand because he smiles for the first time since he had you back.

"Ti amo anch'io."

Naruto: Samurai or Shinobi?

So, a few days ago I’ve decided to analyse the universe of Naruto from a more historic point of view. During my research, I discovered some similarities between the real samurai figures and the “good” ninjas of manga and anime both. In fact, these good ninjas appeared to be a layered version of historic ninjas and samurais rather than the carbon copy of the traditional shinobi. I would like to talk about the mythology involved too, but it would take too long, so I remained with a social analysis of the canon.

Similarities to shinobi:

- Shinobis were trained in what is referred to as a hidden village.

- The location of their training and education depends on the purpose of their profession. The most important skill for a shinobi was the secrecy, mainly due to their status as mercenaries. It’s true that in the 16/17th century they were used for legal purposes thanks to daiymos intervention, but this didn’t arise their “nobility”.

- Shinobi came from important families and clans; they swear loyalty to the clan not to the country. On the contrary, Kishi seems to represent the good shinobi loyal to his country (in the case of Naruto, Fire Country).

- The use of magic skills, chakras and elemental powers was usually associated with ninjas, due to their mysterious characterisation.

Similarities to samurais:

- Good shinobis in Naruto are loyal, prefer open combat rather than deception, even if deception is a highly requested skill. Naruto, the most unpredictable Ninja, is the symbol of a revolution that re-writes the Ninja system entirely, erasing deception and hatred.

- One of the most important weapons in canon is the kunai, a traditional ninja weapon. But, even if in Naruto it is used for fighting purposes, traditionally it is mainly used to distract the enemy.

- If deception is the most important skill for a shinobi, Kishi’d done all wrong: except genin and the main characters of the manga, chunin and genin usually wear highly recognisable uniforms. Also, an enemy can immediately tell the whereabouts of the shinobi by looking at their headbands. Ninjas traditionally wore plain clothes to hide in crowds and work undercover.

- The theme of brotherhood: in medieval and modern Japan homosexual relationships were common during the adolescent phase (often between an older man and a younger one) in the samurais’ world. This kind of intercourses establish a so called “brotherly” relationship that excludes other male lovers but consents female ones. Anyway, after adolescence, these boys were forced to marry a woman to allow the continuation of the bloodline (Sas’ke purpose).

However, both “brothers” were considered attached together forever through a bond of friendship. This doesn’t necessarily exclude adult sexual encounters, but they were less frequent. Remember that, in medieval and modern Japan, relations between men were (in a platonic but also romantic way) durable and more honourable than those between women and men. It depends on the assumption that that men were superior to woman (male-male relationship: the perfect union between two similar). In the case of Naruto and Sasuke, there are a lot of similarities between the historical facts and their relationship, but I won’t go there. Probably I will write another post about this in the near future.

- Some of the most important shinobis in canon wear a partial samurai armour: Sarutobi and Hashirama wear the Do, the Sode, the Sune-Ate and the Haidate (in the case of Sarutobi, the Kabuto too). Their clothes are interesting because they distinguished them from the enemy at a crucial moment. Sarutobi who represents the good warrior, and Orochimaru, who represents the evil-side (here Orochimaru also represents the true (historically speaking) ninja, infiltrating in the village with deception and then wearing common merchant clothes); while Hashirama wears the armour from the beginning, Madara starts wearing these clothes only after the end of the clan war between Senju and Uchiha (I don’t know but perhaps in this case the armour may be a symbol o redemption in his case).

- Good ninjas have positive goals, missin-nin are selfish and don’t care about peace (in fact, shinobi have usually been used for the purpose of chaos).

Central London is, as I've previously mentioned, small enough you can walk across large parts of it pretty quickly.

The versions in The Strand and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes are slightly different - I will go off the latter.

The train of thought discussion in the latter version was originally from CARD - which was omitted from Memoirs at ACD's own request as he felt it wasn't suitable for younger readers.

Southsea is a seaside resort in the Portsmouth Area - accessible by train from London and also near a large naval base. The railway line would be one of the first main lines electrified in the UK in the 1930s.

London's then population of five million is around half of the modern-day population of nine million; the city has expanded considerably, ate a bunch of the surrounding towns in the process, now has much larger official boundaries and was only stopped from its ravenous consumption by the Green Belt legislation after the Second World War, with official policy moving towards the construction of the "New Towns" further out.

Brook Street is a highly opulent street in the Mayfair area, whose former residents include the Bee Gees and Jimmy Hendrix. The five-star Claridge's is located there and at time of publication, was about to be knocked down and rebuilt.

lucy was born in a basement. the daughter of a scullery maid, her father was a duke who couldn’t keep it in his pants at every turn and was making progeny over in germany like genghis khan. both lucy and her older brother, owen, worked hard.

lucy, with her red hair was often considered ‘witchy’ by anyone else around, and there were rumors that she was cursed – her two siblings were born with darker hair, like their father. things that went wrong were often blamed on her whether they were her fault or not, and she was subjected to many beatings by both other servants and masters of the house. with her bright hair, it was hard for her to disappear into the background. it would take her many years to own this as a strength rather than a weakness, and in childhood she spent a lot of time trying to make it darker or cutting it off.

lucy longed for a better, greater life. in the house where she grew up, she was always hungry for art and literature, studying the text and browsing the halls. the nobility they worked for had vast collections of artwork and brought home many things from their travels. she’d spend late nights reading, learning, dreaming of better. this is the kind of thing that kept her sane.

in her teenage years, she ran away with her brother, seeking a better life in england.

but it wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. she got a job as seamstresses and her brother worked as a bricklayer, but the pay for being a seamstress was so poor that they had to find other ways to survive the winter. to keep her brother from joining the army, lucy began working for a pimp, who was able to offer her pay that secured her lifestyle better.

lucy took to this extremely well. her interest in the arts and background made her able to keep up conversation with the gentry and nobility that were looking for company, and she was entertaining, easily able to mold herself into a persona to suit any night. she loved the nightlife that it opened her up to, the artists and great people she met, and was soon a frequent face at parties and artist gatherings. she was a muse, a lover, a curator of company. well-spoken and interested in the world around her, she ate up the attention and thrived, building up secrecy and trust among members of high courts.

honestly, lucy’s gotten accustomed to a lifestyle. she dreams of pursuing art more seriously, of owning property, of owning her own modiste, of not relying on anyone. but money is hard to come by, and her dreams are slow to build.

in addition to sleeping with any salacious member of the ton…even members of royalty and nobility, the fact that she’s known for her extreme secrecy is a total farce. lucy actually has a lot of built-up resentment for the rich, for the people that things have come easy for when she’s clawed her way in and had to give away pieces of herself to earn. she had no childhood due to their selfishness, and she takes out this harbored resentment by collecting secrets. lucy sees and hears a lot of things others don’t, and many people tend to be loose-lipped after great sex. she’s traded these secrets with lady whistledown and surreptitiously ruined many lives in the process.

of course, sleeping with the ton isn’t the only way she learns about these secrets or finds a way into their lives. lucy’s interest and love of art finds its way into her needlework, and she’s sought after at the modiste. she’s been known to deliver her beautiful, elaborate dresswork to a woman, then sleep with her husband that night. honestly, she’s kind of a snake, the way she works her way into the lives of families and squeezes them for money and information. it might be more altruistic if she just saw it as survival, but…it’s also kind of fun for her. she’s just finding joy in life where she can.

you’d think that with all of lucy’s hard work, she might be able to achieve her dream of opening her own shop and maybe…dropping her client-base and giving up sex work? but her brother constantly needs her care. he copes with their rough childhood with a bottle, and is often in and out of work and in need of lucy’s money, assistance, and lodging. and lucy, with a forever soft spot for him and everything they’ve been through together, pours her money into getting him back on his feet every time he calls. it’s like breaking the piggy bank every time it’s full and starting her savings from scratch all over again.

lucy has traveled a lot especially on the wealth of lonely clients who have brought her as a companion on their travels. she’s used her profession to see the world, and for her, there’s no shame in it ; although there is certainly a darker side that she refuses to get into, people that have taken things too far or babies she’s had to force herself to lose. it’s grueling work, and ugly, but at this point, it’s who she is – if she didn’t do it, she would have no window into the world of the wealthy, into knowledge, and into the ways of the world. and for that, it’s worth it to her.

^^ the fact that she’s a prostitute is more of a rumor than anything. your character would likely know if they frequent nightlife or seedy social circles…otherwise, they probably just know her as a seamstress for the modiste (which does not pay well lol)

PERSONALITY ;

magnetic – lucy can command a room. if you didn’t know her status, she could probably fool you into thinking that she’s of higher rank or someone more noble. she can keep up conversation with the best of them, with serious opinions on art, literature, and music. and she can make you feel like you’re the only person in the room when you have her rapt attention, probably because she IS genuinely interested in people…partially due to what she can get from them, but she also immerses herself in the world. her attention and adoration is real and true, she’s just good at detaching herself when its not present. likely has been the muse of certain artists upon occasion.

intelligent – she has a voracious hunger and interest in the world around her. always shrewd from the moment she learned to read very young, late nights in the library of where she grew up. she tries to surround herself with these worldly things. i think part of her is resentful that her intelligence will never really matter as much as what she can offer with her body.

resourceful – if she needs or wants something, she can get it done. if she was a mouse, she could think herself out of a mousetrap. this can be both positive and detrimental, used for good and evil…to help out a friend, to make sure her brother is always back on his feet, but also to extract wanted information or to steal and cheat to get what she wants. to her, many things are a means to an end.

convivial – you wanna party with her! she’s stealing the top shelf liquor! she’s tearing up the dance floor! she’s fun! catch her in the arts district getting drunk and dancing with the actors, joining them in songs and revelry before she’s got to fall into bed with a gross duke for a paycheck.

vindictive – if you wrong her, she will literally never forget or get over it, and she will get revenge. holds a serious grudge and feels that she should not be underestimated for what she can do to get even. granted, it does take doing something serious to get to that point, for example…she’s never gotten over the misdeeds of her father.

deceitful – never trust a hoe!!!! especially this one. she is probably lying to you. about anything really, her name, where she’s from, what her life is like. and she’s probably lying about what she is to you. often times she’ll tell lies to protect herself or even others. but she is lying.

discontented – she is ritualistically unsatisfied. nothing ever really seems to be enough for her, and it’s hard to keep her pleased – or to really hold her interest. she cycles through patrons quickly, and has an ever-changing rotation of interests and hobbies. sewing and fucking are probably only constants in her life because she gets paid for them. she’s like this in relationships, too, and has been known to flit through different social circles and friend groups – friendly with everyone but close to very few.

FORMER PATRON/EXTORTEE – maybe someone that used her services and now doesn’t for whatever reason…whether they’re married, trying to clean up their act, or even just tired of her lmao, but now that they’re no longer a customer, she uses some secret she knows about them (maybe just the fact that they’ve been sleeping with her) to extort them for money etc

MISTAKEN IDENTITY – someone lucy met at a party or a night out and she lied / was pretending to be foreign royalty for the heck of it. now they keep running into her and don’t really know who she really is, they think she’s some sophisticated baddie!!!

GENUINE FLING(S) – like, someone she hooked up with when she wasn’t working. she’s probably easily enamored with artists and travelers, if you want to know her type. basically, she doesn’t just take lovers for work but she also doesn’t hook up with people she’s not super into bc she can get paid for that.  

CUSTOMER TO THE MODISTE – maybe someone who is just genuinely a fan of her work and her art! they think she’s skilled and they only want lucy to be the one to make their dresses and she works really hard for them/their family to fit them for every event. she frequently shows up at their home w new designs for them to try and such.

Day Sixteen - Saturdy, April 8

I am writing this last blog day on our flight from Rome to Dallas/Ft Worth. Laura and I and two of our friends woke up early this morning (at 3:45 a.m.) and took a car service to the Florence airport for our 6:35 a.m. flight from Florence to Rome.

Upon arrival in Rome, after a short layover, we boarded our 12 hour non-stop flght from Rome to DFW. So far, we are on schedule to arrive in Texas around 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

What a great trip we had! Laura and I had our "country mouse" visit for the first part of our trip and then our "city mouse" visit for the last part of our trip. Both were great experiences.

What did we learn?

1. The roads as windy and steep in the country.

2. All of the Italians that we met were very friendly and accomodating. All of them are incredible wine experts and most in hospitality are sommeliers.

3. We did have some fabulous meals, but we always had great conversations with our servers, the cooks and the other restaurant patrons. Most dinners took 2 - 2.5 hours, which was still very enjoyable.

4. Italian drivers are very impatient and drive very fast. I tried to stay within the speed limit most of the time, but I was always the one car being passed up.

5. The wines are good. We tasted a variety of different wines, most made with sangiovese grapes, which is a red wine grape, most similar to pinot noir. We drank (1) Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which is made near the hill town of Montepulciano, (2) Chianti Classico (made near Florence); (3) Brunello di Montalcino, which is made near the hill town of Montalcino (4) Barolo and (5) Super Tuscans from the Bolgheri region. The Super Tuscans are similar to a French Bordeaux blend and were my favorites. We also drank some chardonnays that had a similar style to the French Burgundy region (not buttery or oaky).

6. We walked everywhere in the cities, especially Florence. It is a very walkable city and not hilly at all in the city center. We only took one taxi the entire trip and that was only because I had wrong directions in Florence and we walked about 1.5 miles out of the way.

7. You should not have a rental car in Florence. You should have a rental car in the countryside.

8. Our apartment was in one of the best locations in Florence, right in the middle of most shopping and most restaurants. Only one time did we have to walk more than 20 minutes to a restuarant or a store.

9. The food was relatively bland and not very spicy, which did surprise me. I thought I remembered a little more flavor in the food from my previous trips to Italy. Of course, it could have been what I ordered. This was not the case in the finer restaurants or our cooking class.
