Best Online Coaching
Is online coaching better than classroom coaching?
Tumblr media
Knowledge has no bounds. And in today's world, it is even more valid. There are various sources for you to acquire the kind of knowledge you want. With the penetration of the Internet, the concept of online coaching has become successful, which was otherwise a daunting task. In any subject that you wish to excel, the mode of your coaching plays a crucial role, and it should be chosen in such a way that it puts you in a better position. There are different sides to the classroom and online coaching that you have to consider before joining any course. So, I will be speaking from the perspective of the UPSC Civil Service Examination. By going through the positives and negatives of each model, I hope the aspirant can make a choice that is best for them
Classroom Coaching- The Traditional Method
We have been familiar with this method of coaching from a very early age, through our schools and college. At Officer's IAS Academy, we offer both online and classroom coaching so that the student can choose from what is best for them. The orientation class given to them before joining allows them to take a choice on this matter. The Gurukul style of teaching adopted into our classroom coaching is the biggest advantage of taking the offline mode at Officer's IAS Academy.
When the aspirant is present inside the classroom, discipline is enforced, and the same is incorporated in their daily studies. For your UPSC preparation, disciplined study matters the most. Moreover, the longer classroom hours automatically trains you to cope up with long study hours and also in the actual exams.
Many other aspirants will surround you, and that offers you a chance to learn more. Different perspectives can be shared, and ultimately, it produces more insight into the matter.
The study atmosphere that is created inside the classroom makes the aspirant push themselves more. When one's limits are tested, one's efforts give results. Just like how the states have a friendly competition between themselves, the aspirants try to better themselves and others. In a Gurukul, the students are given a place to think and learn. This is the driving thought process behind Officers IAS Academy. Hence, a free study hall is given for our students to better themselves throughout the year.
All your doubts can be asked and answered in a jiffy if it is a classroom model of teaching. In case of any more doubts, the faculty can answer them without any further time-lapse or point you in the right direction.
Online Coaching
As said before, with the help of the Internet, this model has taken root and has various advantages over the traditional model of coaching. As time changes, the society itself transforms and what is traditional has to change to suit the needs of the present-day scenario. Now, how can online coaching help you in achieving your dream?
It allows you to study at your convenience. It's that simple yet very much needed in this present-day times. You may be working, and if you are not in a position to leave your job, then online coaching would suit you. Even with a mobile and decent internet connection, knowledge will come to you to help you achieve your dreams.
Time loss and money loss can be avoided. Any amount of logistics and waiting time can be avoided through online mode. Especially if you are living at a far off place, the online mode will give better results as it saves maybe even 1~2 hours a day which can be utilized for studies. When it comes to spending money, online would be a better option as the logistics and accommodation cost will be far lesser.
Accessibility- When the course is taken online, it's just like a recorder. Even if you have the slightest doubt, all you have to do is to rewatch the same video again and again till you are clear with the concept.
Distance no longer matters- Even if the coaching institute is located thousands of km away; all you have to do is opt for their online course to get what is best for you. This works splendidly for those who are working/college going etc.
Choice- Who doesn't like fruit salad?! Imagine taking a class from all your favourite teachers who are located in different parts of the country. The choice of studying from various sources according to your convenience gives the best out of the situation.
Aspirants are requested to make a decision that suits them individually, with the above points in mind. Many factors will weigh on the decision you make- money, time, job, family, etc. Both classroom and online modes have advantages, and one must never think that results can be achieved only in one mode. As long as you have the willpower to crack it, be it online or classroom mode success is just a matter of time.

What is the Process of SSB for NDA?
5 Days Procedure of AFSB Interview
Day 1: This is the screening day in Service Selection Board (Army / Navy / Airforce) and you are generally asked to report early morning by 6:45 AM – 7 AM at the railway station. You will board in a bus to reach the selection center.
First, you will be welcomed at the SSB by a senior officer and briefed about the rules and regulations, later you will be asked to fill in some forms followed by a quick breakfast but we suggest having your breakfast prior to that because the testing will be a long process.
Once the paper formalities are done, you will be facing the first test of the SSB interview and that is Officer Intelligence Rating Test (OIR).
After which Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT) is conducted.
Based on the strength, the results are announced by afternoon and the selected candidates go to the testing room again for the document verification. The remaining candidates are dropped back to the railway station. The document checks followed for the selected candidates immediately and If you have an issue with documents and you are not eligible for the entry, you will be sent back too or asked to report later in a different batch with complete documents.
Once the document verification is done, all the successful candidates will be facing a long psychological test till night.
Day 2, 3 and 4: Your interview and GTO tests might fall on any of these days. Generally, you get one free day in AFSB. Some of you might have your GTO/Interview on the last day also. Some may have GTO/Interview on the same day but the timings won’t clash for the two. You might go directly from GTO for the interview. You are required to carry the folder and all certificates, academics and extra-curricular to the interview, make sure whatever you claim in your PIQ form, you must have proper certificates to verify that, you cannot simply say that you left the certificates at home. The interview is generally a 30 minutes-60 minutes procedure. You’ll be informed well in advance through a notice placed on the notice board about the schedule of your tests.
Day 5: This is the conference day. Some may have their interview/GTO scheduled before the conference also. The conference is a place where you get to see all the board members in uniform. Your result is discussed there. You are called in the conference hall and the process is of hardly a minute, it may stretch for borderline cases. After the conference your results are announced, it’s lunchtime by now. Those who make through are asked to stay back for the remaining formalities and others are taken back to the railway's station.
Flying Branch Candidates Only: Flying candidates will go for Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) tests.
Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) will replace the old PABT test and instruments that were in use for decades. Though there is no clear confirmation till now as to when CPSS test will replace the PABT test completely.
Like PABT test, the candidate will get only one chance to clear the CPSS test, if failed, would never be eligible for flying in the armed forces, be it Air force, army, navy or coast guard. Aspirants will get only one chance to take the test under the Computerized Pilot Selection System. CPSS places special emphasis on psychomotor skills and cognitive abilities of aspirants. It ensures objectivity in results. The system will be used to screen pilots for IAF, Army, Navy and the Coast Guard.
It has 2 parts.
1st there will be a MCQ test. They will first give you instructions on how to read 6 kinds of dials present in an aircraft, based on that there will be a number of MCQ tests which include dial reading questions along with IQ, pattern matching, basic maths, tests (around 15 small quizzes in total). It is fairly simple and anyone with basic school level physics knowledge will clear it.
After the 1st test, you will be made to sit in a CPSS machine which is like a cockpit with a joystick, pedals and a lever (like in an aircraft) with a screen in front of you. You will be made to play a number of games similar to a video game with a joystick and you have to get a certain score in all games combined to clear this test. Anyone who drives or has played video games can clear this one easily. You just need hand leg coordination. You get 3 chances in each game and your best score is taken out of the 3, so if you mess up in the 1st attempt you can make up for it in the other 2 attempts
The CPSS test is simple. Elaborate instructions are given before the commencement of both these test so there will be no confusion. So don't worry, you should focus more on the SSB part as that is the main challenge.

Success Story of IAS Topper
Hello, I am Ankit Shankar Mishra and have secured AIR 294 in the civil services examination 2019. This is my fourth attempt and in the earlier attempt I had given the interview but missed the final list by a whisker.I am a Graduate of Mining engineering from NIT Raipur. I have worked in Heidelberg cement India limited for almost a year in 2014-15. I was also selected for Editor post in Arihant publications. I have also been working as a freelancer in a coaching institute for content writing. Inspiration I derived inspiration from my father who once appeared for the civil services and kept telling me how challenging it was and how did he manage to clear prelims but got stuck in mains. It was fascinating to hear his stories so i decided to try it once.Besides the platform that civil services provides, the power and respect for the difficult works done by bureaucrats had also inspired me.
Book list The list was followed by me and it can vary accordingly with comfort levels of different candidates. Static
1) Polity- Lakshmikant ( Gold standard)
2)History ancient- NCERT 11th, Tamil Nadu history book; Modern- NCERT and Spectrum; Culture – Nitin Singhania Specific chapters and NCERT
3) Geography- NCERT 6-12th , GC leong, I had my optional as geography.
4) Environment – 12th NCERT Biology last chapters, some from Shankar IAS
5) Economy- 12th NCERT Macro Economy; Sriram IAS economy
6) Science and Tech- NCERT 9th and 10th.
Current Affairs One can follow any monthly current affairs magazine and relate with the static part. One can follow any magazine diligently and revise it again and again. The material provided by this institute can be referred. The book list is not exhaustive and one can modify it as one prepares and understands more. How important was newspaper reading? Newspaper is one of the most important part of preparation. It helps you directly and indirectly.
You can chose between The Hindu and Indian Express. You can also, if you are interested, go through Asian Age. Internet vs Hard copy materials Content is found anywhere whether it is hard copy or internet. Based on the demand levels of a concept or an idea depend on both the hard copy and internet.
What I use to do was when studying for current affairs, I used to search for associated content in the material that may not be given. In this way you can make current affairs preparation more holistic. Strategy for Prelims General studies- There is no fixed strategy for prelims. But i used to believe exclusively on a utilitarian matrix meaning, I didn’t study medieval India since i believed questions were not asked. But in 2018 and 2019 there were questions so I had to go through medieval India. Practice test papers of whichever institute you may feel like. Practice and revise at least 35-40 papers and gauge your accuracy levels. Don’t get bogged down just because you are scoring low marks in the tests. This would naturally increase once you practice and revise more. One more thing is try to limit your errors in your static portion in prelims. Regarding number of questions, I would do around 80 and score a comfortable position. Here you try to reduce errors and make mistakes not more than 20. The simple mantra would be 3 R ( read, revise, repeat) CSAT- i didn’t have to face problem in this as i had a relative confidence in my maths. But to score above the passing marks, practice some papers of csat by any institute. For those who find difficulty in maths try attempting english questions more as compared to maths.
Mains strategy
This is one of the most important part of the exam. One has to score well to get into the list. GS1- For history and geography what you had done for prelims would suffice, you can read post independence india of some material provided by any institute or your notes. See for any current affairs issues related to this subjects. In 2018 melting of glaciers was in the news, they asked about Cryosphere and impacts on it. GS2- Keeping aside your static part, go for current affairs topics and issues in the news. Maintain short notes of this and then revise it. Specifically go through syllabus. Maintain notes of every keywords. For International relations read the current affairs materials. GS3 – one of the most challenging and dynamic part of the syllabus. Economy and agriculture- current affairs of any institute; Disaster management- prepare your own notes by studing from 2nd ARC, current affairs, NDMA guidelines, Sendai Framework. Environment- current affairs; security- prepare notes by reading each topic separately or depend on material provided to you by the institute. GS4 – read the syllabus and prepare definitions, notes of each word that is given. You should also collect examples of each value to cite in the answers. This justifies your answers more. Try to give contemporary examples. Case studies- there are various ways to write, practice in the test series that you may have been writing or if not write it on your own and practice. Optionals- The choice of the subjects is very personal and depends on the interest of the candidate on a particular discipline. Choose only those where you are comfortable enough to sudy for more than 3 hours continuously without being tired. It carries a whole of 500 marks and is an important part of mains. One has to score well to get in the list.
Essay
There are standard formats to write an essay. Intro- body- conclusion Within this you have to capture and write various dimension like social political legal environmental international etc. Besides this what is more important is that you maintain a flow between paragraphs. Practice some essays and get it checked by your peers or teachers. I had my essays checked by my sister( she is an English major) I remember in 2017 essay I din’t have many dimensions but then i maintained a good flow between the paragraphs. I scored 148 which was a good score at that time. ( Maintaining a flow means there shouldn’t be jumps between paragraphs, you have to link the last line of the earlier paragraph with the new paragraph) Prepare some quotes and include them in your essay. Don’t rely extensively on quotes. Maintain important quotes in digital form and try to remember it. Like in this year’s essay on Artificial intelligence i had used the quote of Victor Hugo- “No force can stop an idea whose time has come”. I had practiced this in most of my technological essays. Also conclusion should be forward looking and visionary. Compulsory papers It is very subjective based on the level of confidence on ones language. What i did was to spend at least an hour after my mains preparation every day. I remember i used to study everyday from 11 pm to 12 midnight.
Answer writing Believe me this is one of the sacred mantras of success. Try writing as many as you can. Either join any good test series or write one answer daily. Time management One of the most difficult aspect in the mains examination. You have to write 20 questions and still maintain quality. It will come through writing practice. Practice as much as you can. Hard work and smart work- to be put simply i still cant differentiate between the two or what are the parameters for this. One thing to note is study should be qualitative instead of quantitative meaning how much hours you are putting into must be of highest quality without disturbance. Questions asked in the Interview Budget 2020 Terrorist organisation Health governance Tourist spots in my district(Kalahandi) National waterways Insurance sector in India Insurance density and penetration Insurance regulator Odisha disaster preparedness Odisha success in disaster preparedness Kalahandi Naxalism Swabhiman anchal Kalahandi why so poor Challenges faced There would be days of low, frustration and disappointments. Everyone would be facing this. So what is important is how do you manage. Managing these bad days would help you in building your character and test your patience levels.
Factor of motivation
My parents who had struggled equally with me My sister who motivated me during my entire journey.she prepared my essay as she was a English major. I had my friends who had either appeared for mains, interviews or were in the list. The urge to get into list with them kept me going. Feeling after landing in dream job Relaxed and happy. All the efforts and haed work put into the years paid off. Credits My Family especially my sister and my grandmother. Friend who supported me in my years of disappointments. IAS GYAN materials and questionnaire Since interview preparation is one of the most coolest phase of UPSC, it may turn out to be directionless. APTI PLUS questionnaire helped in this phase. The current affairs and the questions prepared by the APTI PLUS team were very specific and elaborate. They covered most of the questions from my DAF. I had to maintain a separate notebook for their answers and then prepare them. Also i discussed some of my doubts with founder sir. Mock interviews I had given mock interviews with APTI PLUS twice in two years. The board members were very experienced and asked questions from diverse areas and that helped me remove my fear and hesitation.

How to Start IAS Preparation
How to Begin Preparing for IAS exam? This is the most important question almost all IAS aspirants have when they think of cracking the IAS exam. After all joining a coaching class is not the first strategy that beginners to IAS exam have. This post lists the best ways to start UPSC exam preparation from your home.
•What is Your Age and Qualification?
This is very important to know since IAS preparation should be started at the right time, neither too early nor too late. As per UPSC data revealed in its annual reports, most candidates who clear the civil services examination fall in the age bracket of 23-28 years. Of course you can start preparing for IAS exam earlier and later than this age bracket as well. But starting IAS preparation when you are, say, 15 years old (in school) may be too early. You can start preparing for IAS when you are in your final year of graduation, usually, 20-22 years.
•Know the Basics of the IAS Exam
Before you start preparing for UPSC exam from or outside your home, you should know some important information related to the civil services examination including: What is the IAS exam, the eligibility for ias exam, and syllabus. Once you have good knowledge of the basics of the IAS exam, you will realise that IAS preparation requires an integrated approach to Prelims and Mains exams. Only the preparation method varies. For prelims you will need to cover vast amount of information but you don’t need to go too much in depth. But for Mains, it’s the other way around. The syllabus is well-defined so you know what to cover but you have to cover every aspect of this well-defined syllabus since the Mains exam is descriptive or written.
•Get the Right Books for IAS Exam
When you plan to prepare for IAS first and important thing is to get right study material which will help you to understand the topic easily. But you will need to get the recommended books for IAS. Read these books at least twice: The first time from cover to cover and the second time read the most important chapters again and again to get the most out of these IAS books. Of course, if you can go through the books once again before the Prelims or Mains it is an added boost since your memory will be fresh right before the exam. You should also know which books to read for IAS Exam.Rahul Sir IAS Academy provide the best study material for IAS aspirants.
•Read the Right Newspaper and Magazines
If you didn’t already know this, current affairs and general awareness are very important topics for Prelims and you can expect at least 30-40 current affairs and general awareness questions in Paper 1 (general studies). So how do you cover these topics when you start your IAS preparation? You should read at least one good newspaper daily and one good current affairs magazine. You can read the Indian Express or The Hindu. Both are good sources of current affairs and important editorials that will help you in your Prelims as well as GS Mains papers. Know how to read the newspaper for IAS. I also suggest you should read a reliable magazine when you begin your UPSC preparation from home. Additionally, to get a boost to your preparation efforts you should subscribe to weekly current affairs updates that are focussed on the IAS exam and will save your time and effort in searching for information from different sources.
•Prepare a Schedule and Follow It
When you’re starting your IAS preparation from your home there’s always the danger of falling in the comfort zone and becoming complacent. That’s why you need to prepare a 10-12 month preparation plan on how you will cover the entire General Studies syllabus so that it helps in the Prelims as well as the Mains. The next step is to divide your time between paper 1 and 2. Since Paper 2 of Prelims is only qualifying in scope you can devote far more time to Paper 1 (general studies) preparation. If you’re preparing full time I will suggest you devote 7 hours to Paper 1 daily and 2-3 hours to Paper 2. In Paper 1, you should devote 30-60 minutes to reading newspapers and current affairs. You should devote your remaining time to covering the various topics like History. Geography, Polity etc.
•Test Your Preparation
If you’re preparing for the IAS exam, you should drill this fact in your mind that your preparation can never be complete unless and until you test your preparation. Give test series boost your knowledge and confidence. But why test at all? Simply because unless you attempt mock tests on IAS pattern you will not know whether your preparation is on the right track or not. You will not be able to identify your weak and strong areas and work on those weak areas. You will not learn proper time management skills and skills to tackle negative marking. Hence the need to attempt mock tests for IAS exam.
If you have any query on how to start IAS preparation in Nagpur, you can visit Rahul Sir’s IAS Academy in Nagpur or can ask in the comments below. I will be happy to answer them.
