Today I had some success explaining to my grandmother why 'one flag' won't fix division in Australia, by close metaphor with my own broken and bereaved family.

The government should just say my parents love each other and my sister isn't dead, that would fix it. Give us a flag. One Family.

But my sister will always be dead and that will never be fixed, and my parents MIGHT be 'old friends' someday, but that's gonna take work and therapy. And CHANGE. And RECOVERY. So.
