I have a very VERY limited pool of medication I am allowed to take for my arthritis. And without medication, I am entirely immobile, stuck in a wheelchair, I am in severe agony, and my liver fails because I'm taking excessive painkillers to substitute.
So I need meds. And only 1 medication I've tried actually works with my body and doesn't screw it over.
You know what it costs for 1 month even with insurance?
$1,200 USD
For 1 month. Covered by insurance. It's over a thousand dollars.
So what do I do? Not take the meds and instead let myself suffer in agony as my liver fails at 25 years old and I die?
Well. The company owning the patent of my only available medication sure think so!
Cue me working with a bunch of good pharmacists, and I sign up with the production factory for their copay assistance program, which is a chance thing if you qualify for it or not.
Thank the gods I was able to qualify, and they now cover the medication entirely. I get it free each month.
But not everyone qualifies. And therefore not everyone can get discounts on their medications, and they're the ones who suffer without medication and die.
And that's seen as more money in the pockets of those who hold the patents and shit.
But I should not have to fucking do this shit. No one should. No lifesaving medication or medical treatment should cost that fucking much, and it honestly should be illegal for these fucking companies to lock their lifesaving treatments down with patents just so they can make immense profits while the rest of us forfeit our entire life's savings and that of all our family and friends just to keep ourselves alive.
And considering House MD takes place in Princeton, NJ and I live in the fucking Princeton suburbs in NJ and work in Princeton???
Fucking kudos to them for this whole scene.
It hits home so much more for me beyond the relevance on the surface.
Princeton is known for its medical centers, and treatment and practice facilities galore. They've got some of the best in the country, and folks come from all across the USA to be treated in this town.
And holy shit the privilege of these places thinking they can charge astronomical amounts for a single procedure or whatever is insane. If you die, it's less the insurance has to pay to help you get healthy. If you don't get meds, it's less the insurance has to fork over so you can get them and stay healthy. Your suffering is the profit of insurance.
And medication is necessary to be healthy.
When insurance doesn't cover the meds you have to either die or pay fortunes to the producers without alternatives available because their selfish asses want money and don't give a fuck about you and your wellbeing.

Addiction Treatment in NJ: Your Path to Recovery and Healing
Addiction is a chronic and often debilitating condition that affects millions of individuals and families worldwide. In New Jersey, like other parts of the country, addiction to substances like alcohol, opioids, and other drugs, as well as behavioral addictions, has become a serious concern. Fortunately, addiction treatment in NJ offers a variety of programs designed to help individuals reclaim their lives, regain their health, and achieve lasting recovery.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4c1fe8ebf8a157ed1492798b21d827a7/23d48559bc63a1e5-f2/s540x810/a37f576eadb0be9a4f31a22f301ea8dae8ead22a.jpg)
What is Addiction Treatment in NJ?
Addiction treatment in NJ involves a range of therapies, services, and interventions aimed at helping individuals overcome substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. These programs can include detoxification, inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, therapy, counseling, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and aftercare support. The treatment approach is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual, taking into account the severity of the addiction, underlying health conditions, and personal recovery goals.
Types of Addiction Treatment Available in NJ
Detoxification (Detox) Detoxification is often the first step in addiction treatment, especially for individuals with physical dependence on substances like alcohol, opioids, or benzodiazepines. During detox, the goal is to safely manage withdrawal symptoms under medical supervision. In New Jersey, many rehab centers offer medically monitored detox services to ensure patients are safe and supported as they eliminate the substance from their system.
Inpatient (Residential) Rehab Inpatient rehab is ideal for individuals with severe addiction or those who require more intensive care. This treatment requires individuals to live at the treatment facility, where they receive 24/7 care, therapy, counseling, and medical support. New Jersey offers numerous inpatient rehab centers that provide a structured and safe environment for those seeking to break free from addiction. Inpatient treatment programs often last for 30, 60, or 90 days, depending on the person’s needs.
Outpatient Rehab Outpatient rehab allows individuals to live at home while attending treatment sessions at a rehab facility. This option is ideal for people with less severe addictions, or for those who need continuing care after completing inpatient treatment. In New Jersey, outpatient programs offer flexibility, allowing individuals to work, go to school, and manage family responsibilities while receiving counseling, therapy, and group support.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a scientifically proven treatment approach that combines medication with therapy to help individuals recover from opioid addiction and alcohol addiction. Medications like methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone help to reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, and support the recovery process. MAT is commonly available in NJ and has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of relapse and improve treatment outcomes.
Therapy and Counseling Therapy and counseling are central to addiction treatment. In New Jersey, individuals seeking addiction treatment often participate in various forms of therapy, such as:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors related to addiction.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Focuses on managing emotions, coping with stress, and improving interpersonal relationships.
Motivational Interviewing (MI): A counseling approach designed to enhance motivation and resolve ambivalence toward recovery.
Group Therapy: Provides peer support, helping individuals learn from others’ experiences and share their own recovery journey.
Aftercare and Support Groups Aftercare plays a vital role in maintaining long-term sobriety. New Jersey offers a range of aftercare services, including ongoing therapy, counseling, sober living arrangements, and participation in support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). These services help individuals stay connected to the recovery community and provide continued support during the transition back to everyday life.
Benefits of Addiction Treatment in NJ
Comprehensive Care Addiction treatment centers in New Jersey offer a wide range of services designed to address every aspect of addiction, including physical health, mental well-being, and emotional support. These centers combine medical care, therapy, and life skills training to help individuals achieve lasting recovery.
Highly Skilled Professionals The treatment centers in New Jersey employ experienced and licensed professionals, including doctors, addiction counselors, therapists, and support staff. These experts provide personalized care and help guide individuals through their recovery journey with compassion and expertise.
Access to Specialized Programs New Jersey has a variety of specialized addiction treatment programs designed to cater to the unique needs of individuals. These include programs for dual diagnosis (individuals with both addiction and mental health issues), opioid treatment programs, and adolescent addiction treatment. Specialized care ensures that individuals receive the most effective treatment for their specific situation.
Convenient Location and Accessibility New Jersey’s proximity to major metropolitan areas such as New York City and Philadelphia makes it a convenient location for individuals seeking addiction treatment. With numerous rehab centers across the state, residents of New Jersey and surrounding areas have easy access to treatment options close to home.
Holistic and Alternative Therapies Many addiction treatment centers in New Jersey offer holistic therapies as part of their programs. These may include yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and art therapy. These alternative therapies provide individuals with additional tools for managing stress, improving mental health, and supporting emotional healing during the recovery process.
How to Choose the Right Addiction Treatment Center in NJ
Accreditation and Licensing Ensure the treatment center is accredited by reputable organizations, such as the Joint Commission or the CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). This ensures that the facility meets high standards of care and follows evidence-based practices.
Treatment Specializations Look for treatment centers that offer specialized programs for your specific addiction or any co-occurring mental health conditions. It’s important to choose a facility that provides the appropriate level of care for your individual needs.
Range of Services A good addiction treatment center should offer a comprehensive range of services, including detoxification, therapy, counseling, group support, and aftercare. The more options a facility offers, the more likely it is to provide a holistic approach to recovery.
Cost and Insurance Coverage Addiction treatment can be costly, but many centers in NJ accept insurance or offer sliding scale fees based on income. Make sure to confirm whether the treatment center accepts your insurance or if financial assistance is available.
Success Rates and Reviews Research the center’s success rate and read reviews from past clients to understand the effectiveness of the treatment program. This can give you insight into the center's approach and its ability to support long-term recovery.
Conclusion
