Came across some old footage from a playthrough of AC Unity I did back in 2022, and three things can be gleaned from this video:

1. Arno CAN whistle, it just never seems to occur to him that he can use it as a means of distracting or luring guards to his position.

2. I've never been so jealous of a book in my entire life.

3. Our darling idiot has no right to be snide and bitchy about the whole "hide in plain sight" thing, as he was the one who caused the damn explosion in the first place!

while looking through games i've played (for the Game Challenge on bluesky) i have (re)discovered my now 12 year old video of my favorite thing to do in Assassin's Creed 1.

wanted to add a couple of other vids of me doing the same thing back in 2022, but tmblr doesn't allow more than 1 file in a post :(

so i compiled all the vids into one

(the old one had no audio so the first ~30sec is silent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

#dear diary #whenever i remind myself i wanted to play AC3 onward i only remember i like running around rooftops #and there aren't all that many roofs in forests or on ships #(and i can't just skip those games to play the in-city ones now can i)#so when i want to play AC3 onward i say “but i don't remember what was in the 1st ones” and play AC1 through ACR #and it all comes back #how every new gameplay mechanic enraged me more and more #how the costume peaked in AC2 and the designs only went downhill from there #and the final straw is the indie-like Animus levels in ACR (incl dlc) that remind me of the games i could've enjoyed playing instead #so i yet again stop at ACR #thinking “well i like running on rooftops n there arent much of those in forests or on ships n i cant skip middle parts of a series anyway"#and put away the series until the next time i remember how much i love AC1 but forget why i keep dropping after ACR to replay Portal again #assassin's creed #assassin's creed 1 #altair ibn la'ahad

though for prev post i think the biggest disappointment i didnt wait for (most overhyped) has to be far cry 3... literally spent years hearing about how it was amazingly written and got really deep into the villain's mind and then i found out that by that everyone meant it quotes alice in wonderland sometimes

#literally the only good thing about it was michael mando #while playing it i was SOO sure there was going to be a twist that the violence was warping you and you were a violent colonial force etc.#because the longer i played the more the protag would cheer and celebrate after killing people #and it felt extremely on the nose that this was some white guy 'conquering' the island #i think it does sometimes try to do that with its very lukewarm shooter 'oughh am i becoming a monster?' themes but like it cant commit #to them because it's a ubisoft game and doesnt want to condemn the player for having fun blowing people's heads off #and the gameplay isnt even good it's just the same thin assassin's creed open world formula but with guns
