Early Life and Education
Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah, born on October 22, 1964, in Mumbai to Mrs. Kusum Ben and Mr. Anilchandra Shah, hails from a family with deep roots in Gujarat. His grandfather was a prosperous merchant (Nagar Seth) in Mansa, a small princely state of the Baroda State of Gaikwad. Shah spent his early years in Mansa, where he received his primary education. His upbringing was steeped in the ‘Indian Value Tradition,’ under the guidance of eminent scholars from the Gaikwad State, focusing on Indian scriptures, historical texts, grammar, and epics.
Tumblr media
Influences and Early Political Engagement
After completing his primary education, Shah’s family relocated to Ahmedabad. Influenced by his mother, an ardent Gandhian, Shah embraced the simplicity of Khadi. His fascination with the biographies of patriots and the writings of K.M. Munshi deeply influenced his young mind.
At the age of 13, during the 1977 general elections amidst the Emergency period, Shah actively participated in the campaign, supporting Maniben Patel, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s daughter, who contested from the Mehsana Lok Sabha seat as a Jana Sangh candidate.
Early Political Career
Shah’s formal political journey began at 16 when he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a young Swayamsevak in 1980. By 1982, he was the joint secretary of the Gujarat unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and worked as a polling agent for the BJP in 1984. He joined the BJP Yuva Morcha in 1987 and became involved with the Deendayal Research Institute, serving as its treasurer for eight years. This period allowed him to learn from the social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh.
Rise in the BJP
In 1989, Shah became the BJP secretary of Ahmedabad, playing a pivotal role during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the Ekta Yatra. He managed election campaigns for senior leaders like L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gandhinagar until 2009. Shah’s association with Narendra Modi began in the 1990s when Modi was the BJP’s Organization Secretary in Gujarat. Shah’s business acumen helped him significantly when he became the chairman of the Gujarat Pradesh Finance Corporation in 1995, turning around the corporation’s financial health.
Political Achievements in Gujarat
Shah was appointed the National Treasurer of the BJPs Yuva Morcha in 1997 and won the Sarkhej assembly by-election by a margin of 25,000 votes. He continuously won assembly elections until 2012, with increasing margins each time. As an MLA, Shah facilitated numerous development projects and became the state secretary of Gujarat BJP in 1998, and state vice-president within a year.
Leadership in Cooperative Sector and Further Political Roles
At 36, Shah became the youngest chairman of the Ahmedabad District Co-operative Bank (ADCB) in 2000, transforming its financial status. He was appointed as the convener of the BJP’s National Cooperative Cell in 2001. He played a crucial role in the 2002 Gujarat assembly elections under Narendra Modi’s leadership and served as a minister in the Gujarat government, holding key portfolios like Home, Traffic, Prohibition, Parliamentary Affairs, Law, and Excise.
National Politics and BJP Presidency
In 2013, Shah became the BJP’s National General Secretary. During the 2014 elections, he was pivotal in the BJP’s success in Uttar Pradesh, securing 73 seats. On July 9, 2014, Shah became the BJP National President. Under his leadership, the BJP expanded its organizational base and achieved significant electoral successes, forming governments in states like Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Haryana, and Maharashtra. He was re-elected as the national president in 2016 and became a trustee of the Somnath Temple Trust the same year.
Ministerial Roles and Legislative Achievements
In 2017, Shah was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat and continued to strengthen the party’s presence across India. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar, winning by a significant margin. Appointed as the Home Minister in 2019, Shah played a crucial role in major legislative changes, including the abrogation of Article 370 and the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Contributions to Security and Disaster Management
Shah has been instrumental in resolving long-standing issues in Kashmir and the northeastern states, implementing a zero-tolerance policy against Left-Wing Extremism, and improving disaster management protocols. His efforts have bolstered internal security and the National Disaster Response Force’s (NDRF) effectiveness.
Ministry of Cooperation and Personal Life
In 2021, Shah was appointed as the Minister of Cooperation, focusing on revitalizing the cooperative movement. Despite his busy political career, Shah enjoys various cuisines, old films, and chess. He has not traveled abroad since 2006, maintaining a disciplined and spiritual lifestyle.
Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah’s journey from a young activist to one of India’s most influential politicians is marked by strategic acumen, dedication to public service, and a deep commitment to the nation’s security and development.

Assam Rajya Sabha member is a surprise pick in the Modi Ministry
GUWAHATI The return of Assam’s Sarbananda Sonowal and Arunachal Pradesh’s Kiren Rijiju to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre was more or less expected. Pabitra Margherita, the third face from the northeast in the Narendra Modi-led government, and a Rajya Sabha member from Assam, has been a surprise package. All are Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarians. Mr. Sonowal and Mr. Rijiju are among the 13 MPs elected from Lok Sabha seats across the northeast comprising eight States and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies. The 61-year-old Mr. Sonowal, a former Chief Minister who won from the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, belongs to the Sonowal Kachari community. A resident of eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district, he won the Dibrugarh seat for the second time — the first in 2004 as a candidate of the Asom Gana Parishad, and now as the BJP’s minor ally in the Assam government. Mr. Rijiju, 52, is a Buddhist from the Miji or Sajolang community, hailing from the Nafra area of West Kameng district. He won the Arunachal West seat for the fourth time, thrice in succession. The 49-year-old Mr. Margherita is from Margherita, an industrial town in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district, a part of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat. His original name is Pabitra Gogoi but he uses the town’s name as his surname. He was a cultural activist specialising in film-making before joining the BJP in 2014, a watershed year for the party in Assam. Elected as a Rajya Sabha member in 2022, he is also the political secretary to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. It is believed that Mr. Margherita’s induction into the Modi Cabinet is the BJP’s strategy to counter the impact of the perceived Congress resurgence in eastern Assam after Gaurav Gogoi’s victory from the Jorhat constituency. Eastern Assam largely comprises the Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Kaziranga Lok Sabha seats. Like Mr. Gogoi, Mr. Margherita is an Ahom, a politically potent community in eastern Assam, along with the Adivasis or the “tea tribes”. Together, they dictate the fate of 49 Assembly segments in the three eastern Assam constituencies, and the adjoining ones across northern and central Assam. The BJP has been winning most of these Assembly seats since 2016 but Mr. Gogoi’s electoral win — despite Dr. Sarma and his team focusing their energy and party resources on Jorhat — has been interpreted as a sign that the Ahoms and Adivasis could be disillusioned with the BJP ahead of the crucial 2026 Assembly polls. Letting Congress regain lost ground in eastern Assam, which helped the Congress form the government thrice in succession under Tarun Gogoi, is expected to put the BJP in a tight spot. For the record, the BJP trailed in all but one of the 10 Assembly segments of the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat. The lone segment in which it was Majuli, where the Mishing tribe and the caste Assamese are the dominant communities. Mr. Sonowal, a choice of an older set of BJP leaders, represented Majuli before shifting to the Centre. Source link via The Novum Times

Congress Wins Six Seats in Northeast Following Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Rally Route
The Congress party had great success in the northeast, capturing six Lok Sabha seats along Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) route. This election triumph has been attributed to Mr. Gandhi’s strong bond with the people during his 63-day rally from January 14 to March 16, which encompassed 20 of the 28 districts in these constituencies.
Successful Constituencies
The Congress triumphed in Inner Manipur, Outer Manipur, Nagaland, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Dhubri. These areas were essential to Mr. Gandhi’s BJNY itinerary, underscoring the rally’s significance to the party’s victory. Tura, Meghalaya’s seventh seat, also benefited from the rally’s spillover impact, particularly from its nearby Shillong constituency in Meghalaya and the Dhubri and Guwahati constituencies in Assam.
Heart-to-Heart Connect
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra kicked off at Thoubal, the hometown of Manipur’s Congress Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, as well as State Congress president K. Meghachandra Singh. The demonstration went through Imphal East and Kangpokpi, two districts hard hit by the ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo populations. According to Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, a senior spokesperson for the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr. Gandhi’s “heart-to-heart connect” with the people along the yatra path contributed to the Congress’ success in Manipur and other northeastern states.
Assam’s Religious Significance
The route also featured notable cultural and religious attractions. The Kamakhya Temple, located atop the Neelachal Hills in Guwahati, is widely regarded as the most important Hindu pilgrimage site in the northeast. However, the holiest destination for Vaishnavism believers in Assam is Batadrava, the birthplace of saint-reformer Srimanta Sankaradeva in the 15th century. Batadrava is also a significant Assembly segment in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.

Irom Sharmila, known as 'Iron Lady Of Manipur'
 Irom Sharmila Chanu-
Irom Sharmila Chanu, also known as the "Iron Lady of Manipur," gained international attention for her prolonged hunger strike as a protest against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in India. Here's a detailed overview of Irom Sharmila's story:
Background:
Irom Sharmila was born on March 14, 1972, in Imphal, Manipur, India. Manipur, a state in northeastern India, has faced decades of insurgency and conflict. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was imposed in the region to grant special powers to the armed forces to maintain law and order.
Information about Irom Sharmila's family background is not extensively documented. Here is a general overview based on available information:
Personal life-
Irom Sharmila Chanu was born on March 14, 1972, in Imphal, Manipur, India. Her family hails from the state of Manipur, which has a rich cultural and historical background. Her Father is Irom c Nanda and mother is Irom Ongbi Sakhi . Her husband name is Desmond Anthony Bellarnine Coutinho. She has two children Nix Shakhi and Autumn Tara .
The Incident that Sparked the Protest:
On November 2, 2000, a tragic incident occurred in Malom, a town near Imphal, where ten civilians were allegedly killed by the Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force. The incident deeply affected Irom Sharmila, prompting her to take a drastic step in protest against the AFSPA.
The Hunger Strike:
On November 5, 2000, Irom Sharmila began her hunger strike, vowing not to eat or drink until the Indian government repealed the AFSPA. She chose this method of protest to draw attention to the draconian powers granted to the armed forces, including the authority to arrest without a warrant and use deadly force if deemed necessary.
Legal and Medical Interventions:
Sharmila's hunger strike continued for an astounding 16 years, during which she was arrested numerous times by the authorities. However, she was not force-fed, as the authorities respected her right to protest in this non-violent manner. She spent much of her time in judicial custody or under house arrest during this period.
In 2016, Irom Sharmila decided to end her hunger strike, expressing her disappointment that her protest had not achieved the desired results. She also decided to enter mainstream politics with the hope of bringing about change through democratic means.
Political Endeavors:
In August 2016, Irom Sharmila ended her hunger strike and announced her intention to contest elections in Manipur. She formed a political party called the People's Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) and contested the 2017 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections. However, she did not win a seat.
Life Post-Hunger Strike:
After the electoral defeat, Irom Sharmila continued to be involved in activism, advocating for human rights and justice. While her hunger strike brought attention to the issue of AFSPA, the law remains in place, and the debate about its necessity and impact continues.
Irom Sharmila's story is one of immense courage and resilience, and she remains an inspirational figure in the fight for human rights and justice in conflict-ridden regions.
Irom Sharmila has not authored a book herself, but there are publications and documentaries that cover her life, activism, and the issues she has been advocating for. It's possible that there may be new developments or publications beyond that date.
1. Books and Articles:
   - "Burning Bright: Irom Sharmila and the Struggle for Peace in Manipur" by Deepti Priya Mehrotra: This book provides an in-depth look at Irom Sharmila's life, her hunger strike, and the socio-political context of Manipur.
2. Documentaries:
   - "Bloody Phanek" (2015): A documentary by Manipuri filmmaker Sonia Nepram that explores the impact of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Manipur and features Irom Sharmila's struggle.
   - "Where the Elephants Weep" (2016): Directed by Nandita Dutta, this documentary also covers Irom Sharmila's story and the larger issue of conflict in Manipur.
3. Irom Sharmila's Autobiography:
Irom Sharmila has expressed her desire to write her autobiography to share her experiences and perspectives. However, as of my last update, I am not aware of any autobiography published by her.
It's recommended to check more recent sources or official statements from Irom Sharmila for any updates on her literary works or publications .

Certainly caste & all discrimination, exploitation (prevalent all over the medieval WORLD before INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION) should be abolished from Indian society.   But we should not burn OUR HOUSE because of nuisance from some rats

“Robert Caldwell wrote A Comparative Grammar of the Dravidian or South-Indian family of languages. He identified south Indian Brahmins with Indo-Europeans, which was partly based on HIS  belief that the Indo-Europeans had "higher mental gifts and higher capacity for civilisation".  Caldwell asserted that the low-caste Chanar were not merely Tamil speakers but an "indigenous Dravidian" people, distinct ethnically &, most critically for him, religiously, from their high-caste oppressors, whom he referred to as "Brahmanical Aryans" (in this case "Aryan" as an ethnic signifier for foreign and "Brahmanical" to signify the "Hinduism" of the high-caste).
These WILDLY SPECULATIVE. claims, well outside the scope of linguistics, were intended "to develop a history which asserted that the indigenous Dravidians had been subdued and colonized by the Brahmanical Aryans".
Tamil Language has almost ALL alphabets common with most Indian languages.
Most of other Indian women wear Saree like Tamil women.
From Assam to Kashmir people of India worship Shiva, Vishnu& Shakthi
Brahmins &most North Indians worship all the Gods in temples of Tamilnadu. Crores of North Indians Visit Tamil temples. Tamil Nadu has most number of spritual tourists in India.
There is diversity & differences in Indian culture, but Tamils have lots in common with rest of India
Robert Caldwell started creating differences between Tamils & other Indians, he sowed the seeds of division/ hate
👇🏻
Hatred against other states being propagated by some regional chauvinists 👇🏻

An extremist like PazhaniBaba talks about Murugan, but the practical truth is many North Indians worship Murugan /  Karthikeyan 👇🏻
youtube
The objective of such extremist  is to divide Indians.
See around you , how many people from other beliefs respect  ancient Tamil Gods?  One %?
many of other faiths call Indian culture as  Pagans, Kafirs?   No mutual respect.
How many take foreign money to convert poor people? Or to indulge in violent War
We should love our language, culture & faith.
We should not give up one love for other love, we should not love one & hate  other
We should not indulge in hate & violence against other peaceful neighbors. Social, political, community leaders should try to suggest middle path & SOLVE PROBLEMS, they should not too much highlight the differences & hate diverse thoughts. They should not stress that one community alone has life-death issues & other social groups are not important
Africa, South America & Australia lost its free sprit & culture, now they follow European culture.
Japan Korea China have their own culture, they don’t fight too many wars.    But Africans  & South American have violent armed rebels & mafia,  they not progressing because they have lost their culture & brotherhood
How Portuguese and other European conquerers made thousands of Indians, Africans, Brazilians as slaves (to SUPPRESS them as bonded LABOUR &  stress racial and cultural superiority)👇🏻
👇🏻
"although slavery was a worldwide institution for thousands of years, nowhere in the world was slavery a controversial issue prior to the 18th century. People of every race and color were enslaved – and enslaved others.
White people were still being bought and sold as slaves in the Ottoman Empire, decades after American blacks were freed.
Everyone hated the idea of being a slave but few had any qualms about enslaving others. Slavery was just not an issue, not even among intellectuals, much less among political leaders, until the 18th century – and then it was an issue only in Western civilization."
Only after INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION in Europe people in there started UNIVERSAL EDUCATION so that they get EDUCATED / SKILLED LABOUR . Before that most societies in the world kept the poor uneducated and socially backward
Slavery exploitation is an evil which has been prevalent from ancient times in most of the societies
👇🏻
Jews have literature / documents to show how they were enslaved by Egyptians and Babylonians
Slavery, Exploitation very prevalent evil of most societies in ancient times.  The purpose  appears to  ensure people of certain races/ classes are  kept as BONDED LABOUR from birth 👇🏻
Clearly caste-JATI system followed in India was an In-human behaviour of exploitation and suppression of people for using them as Labour.
Now  It is the duty of more rich and PRIVILEGED to help poor and socially vulnerable people and ensure mutual respect and equality in society.
The ancient concept of all “VARNA” was misused to create unjust division of labour, the fact that varna only means human behaviour pattern - WITHOUT ANY LINK TO CASTE OR FAMILY OF BIRTH  was misinterpreted and the fact that  “ All varnas lead to me (Krishna)” was suppressed .  Four children of same parents can follow the behaviour pattern of four different varnas, appeared to be the ancient concept of varna. Which was misused as family based varnas during the period when slavery started to be followed in other parts of the world

In this episode of India Upfront with Rahul Shivshankar we will be discussing BJP promises UCC, NRC in Karnataka. The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its manifesto for the upcoming Karnataka assembly election. In its 16 points 'Vikas' roadmap, BJP promised for UCC & NRC in the state among others. Incumbent CM of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai said, "We've kept PM Modi's slogan of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' at the centre of the manifesto. These are not simply poll promises but our commitment." We are joined by panelists who will share their views on this.
"I congratulate the BJP for coming up with a very good manifesto. All the state arms need to come together and decide what is a freebie and what is a welfare scheme", says Anand Ranganathan.
"The BJP calls our welfare schemes as "freebies," and now they have announced much more freebies than anybody else.  J. P.
