OC Askbox Game

I'm avoiding writing and you probably are too, so let's at least think about our characters while we do it.

You know the drill- send me a number (ONE number, you can come back for more) and I'll answer for an OC of your choice (if you know their name) or my choice (if you don't know their name). Feel free to name some of your OCs in the tags of your reblog, if you want to be asked about them.

How did you choose their name?

Were they created for the story, or was the story created for them?

Do they have a love interest, and was that their choice or yours?

Do they have a best friend? If so, how did they meet? If not, have they ever/why never?

Did they have a pet as a child?

What catalyzed their introduction to the plot?

What attribute of them (some facet of their personality, their history, their look, or whatever etc) would you find most important to somehow preserve if they were transplanted to an AU fanfic?

If your character's financial situation were to suddenly flip (someone poor becoming rich, someone rich becoming poor, etc), how well would they handle it? What would be the first thing they would do?

This is one of those docs that is just an idea and a first line 🤣

Teenage Jingyan of halcyon days is magically slapped into the life of canon-era Jingyan just as all of Mei Changsu’s plans are coming to a head. And Jingyan has to DEAL with the fact that his beloved brother isn’t there to take the throne next, he’s in line for it, the country is in shambles, his best friends are gone, etc etc. And Mei Changsu has to deal with him.

But someone pointed out that you can achieve the same effect with amnesia (lmao), so I’m wondering if I should reformulate around that.

This is going to sound pretty lame, but proper grammar is what makes me fall for a fic. If you know how to use a semi-colon and an m-dash, I will always read your fic from start to finish. God bless you if you know what form of "your" and "you're" to use. And "their," "there," and "they're." Proper grammar and sentence formatting turns me on.

After that, I love it when people reference mythology and classic literature in their pieces. The one that immediately comes to mind is Good Samaritan by @/vaaaaaiolet. She opens with a line about Atlas and I fell in love.

I loved writing all of my pieces. It's hard to pick a favorite. The first piece I wrote isn't very popular because it's about Remy LeBeau (and it's not smut). However, I wrote a Simon "Ghost" Riley/Reader fic after that. I'm not in the military, but I am a hunter and a fisher, so writing this fic was super fun. I haven't proofread it in a while - and the smut was only my second time writing it. I was still trying to figure out how to write and how to find my style.

It's called In the Crosshairs.

You used to be in the military, but you retired not too long ago. You now work at an outdoors shop called Timber and Tackle. Not only that, you're a hunter, fisherwoman, and blacksmith. One day, a strange man appears in your shop and turns your world upside down. You fall for him almost immediately.

New Year's Game

Like in years past, we're gonna play an Askbox game for new years!

How to play:

Why just have one ring when you can have a DOUBLE RING. This interesting find is a Late Roman ring (3rd-5th c. C.E.) and features two emeralds and a garnet.

This gorgeous necklace is Mixtec (est. 1325-1525 C.E.) and was made in the region that's now Oaxaca, Mexico. It's composed of gold beads made to look like jaguar teeth and little gold bells. It's located at the Met Museum in New York City.

A SECRET: my (same-sex) partner and I are legally married and have been for over a decade, but my family thinks we are roommates/best friends.

Here's the catch. My family isn't homophobic. At all. We went to a big gay wedding for my cousin. In my case, I was just too embarrassed to admit that the nature of the relationship had changed and didn't know how to bring it up. It's not an overtly romantic/passionate/ sexual relationship (due in part to medication affecting those urges) but it definitely is a doing life together, kissy cuddly affectionate partners to the exclusion of all others thing, and we do fuck every once in a while - we sleep in the same bed every night, but my family thinks we have separate rooms, I guess - we do have a big house and a messy life, so we have clothes and personal items in our spare room anyway.

Their parents vaguely know we are partners, but I am fairly sure they don't know we are married - we have forgotten. The wedding only had one witness and it was in another country - it was sort of done at the time for the opportunity to potentially do a visa thing, but we actually never ended up doing that.

Anyway, I thought that "family doesn't know you're gay married, not due to bigotry, just because admitting to a feeling is embarrassing" might amuse you, or be a good fic prompt lol
