People who don't understand the hype about Neeraj Chopra need to re-evaluate his performance
Like, the 22 year old commissioned army officer shows up to his first Olympics, in a discipline where his country hasn't medalled once and in a sport that no one from his Continent has placed first in. He shows up, works hard and qualifies for Finals and then he fucking wins. And he doesn't stop, he continues winning, he wins World Athletics Championship 2023 (got silver in the 2022), 2022 Asian Games (where he and his teammates were subjected to many unfair rules and his first throw (which could've broken the world record) wasn't even counted). All of this when he had just recovered from a surgery to his right elbow (2019). Now this man 26 of age, qualifies for the finals in Just 1 fucking throw with his second best of the season. He is also considered a Favourite to win, all of this when today, (7, August), 3 years ago, most of the people in his country didn't even know that Javelin was an Olympic sport.
The Golden Boy of India deserves all of the hype he is getting. His critics don't know about the hope and joy that his Gold to brought every Indians hearts in 2021.

Asian Games 2023 🎾 XD F: Rutuja Bhosale/Rohan Bopanna [2] def. En-Shuo Liang/Tsung-Hao Huang 2-6, 6-3, [10-4] Match Stats
📸 RTM MY
Bopanna/Rutuja had to dig deep for this one from their return game. They found a way out where they gradually constructed their points from the baseline to the net, where they aimed after E. Liang/T-H. Huang's frequently failed volleys. This resulted in pace absorption, where both pairs then had their moments with 3 break points. As clutch as E. Liang/T-H. Huang might have sounded, where they saved 66% break points from Rutuja/Bopanna, the latter maximized their 33% conversion rate from the second set and carried their momentum on to the match tie-break with the said intuitive construction, hence they completed the comeback in the most epic way possible.
By then, they also regained the service game necessary to dominate the whole flow and turn it around in their favor. Scoring 8 aces (including the medal-winning moment), Rutuja/Bopanna landed 57% of their first serves compared to E. Liang/T-H. Huang's 71% but managed to win 75% of their first serve points than E. Liang/T-H. Huang's 65%, optimizing their accuracy in the moments that mattered. Even if their only double fault came from the early parts of the first set, they put the situation under control since the second set and even went after E. Liang/T-H. Huang's second serves, which worked in one way or another thanks to the rally flow.
Finally, to close the tennis field, India has a gold medal after ending up winning silver in yesterday's Men's Doubles final (Ramkumar Ramanathan/Saketh Myneni). On the othet hand, Bopanna/Rutuja snabbed Chinese Taipei's clean doubles sheet, with the latter adding another silver to its collection after the Women's Doubles final (En-Shuo Liang/Ya-Hsuan Lee) earlier today after the 2 previous golds from Jason Jung/Yu-Hsiou (Timmy) Hsu and the Chan sisters from Men's and Women's Doubles, respectively. Definitely the forces to be reckoned with.

Heartfelt Victory: Asian Games Silver Medalist Roshibina Devi's Emotional Dedication Amidst Manipur's Strife
Hangzhou, China, 28th September 2023: The Asian Games 2023 witnessed not only fierce competition but also a poignant moment of dedication and plea for peace from India's silver medallist in Wushu, Roshibina Devi. Hailing from Manipur, Roshibina clinched a silver medal in the 60kg sanda event, leaving an indelible mark on the games not just for her sporting prowess but for the depth of her emotions.
In the throes of competition, Roshibina faced off against local heavyweight Wu Xiaowei in the final, losing 0-2 in two rounds. However, it was her post-fight words that resonated with the audience. "Manipur is burning. Fighting is going on in Manipur. I can't go to my village. I want to dedicate this medal to those who are protecting us and suffering there," she declared, tears streaming down her face.
A Cry for Peace: Roshibina, a member of the Meitei community from Kwashiphai village in Bishnupur district, expressed the turmoil back home. Her words were not just a dedication; they were a plea for her homeland that had been grappling with violence since May. "I don't know what will happen; the fighting has been continuing. When will the violence stop, and when will the state return to normal life?" she questioned, laying bare the emotional toll the situation had taken on her.
Isolation from Family: The violence in Manipur had kept Roshibina away from her family since May. Despite the concerning situation back home, her family urged her to focus on the final, leading to minimal communication. "My family is fine. I don't speak to them regularly as my coaches say the violence at home will distract me," she revealed, highlighting the sacrifices athletes make for their commitment to sport.
Mixed Emotions: While the silver medal symbolized an incredible achievement, Roshibina expressed mixed emotions. "I am feeling good about winning the silver medal, but I am also a little sad about not being able to bag a gold medal," she confessed. Her disappointment, however, did not overshadow her unwavering resolve. "This Silver medal is dedicated to the people of Manipur. I will rectify the faults I made in this game and play better. I will train harder for the upcoming World Championships in November," she declared with a determination that spoke volumes.
Conclusion: Roshibina Devi's emotional dedication highlights the impact of geopolitical turmoil on individuals striving for excellence in sports. Her plea for peace resonates beyond the arena, calling attention to the human stories behind the medals. As Manipur grapples with unrest, Roshibina's dedication becomes a symbol of hope and resilience amidst adversity.
