My friend asked me to write this so why not. AND the reader is a pro racecar driver.

Warning! Poly relationship, married bobby and Athena, hospital,shots, needles, Cd/n= Co-driver name,

Their worst fear is seeing you incident. And their worst fear came true. Your co-driver was holding you captive in the car.

Your co-driver forced you to keep driving at the highest speed and took your helmet off. Gun pointing at your head screaming at you. He was jealous of your success. He was tired of you always being in the light that “he deserved’  “I HATE YOU Y/N! I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU!!" He shouts, pushing the gun harder into your head. 

You notice other drivers getting off the track only leaving you on the track. You side-eye the window and see firetrucks and police cars. Your hands begin to shake and tremble. YOU WERE GOING TO DIE. That thought makes you scream in fear begging whatever god to save you. Tears running down your face in fear that this was the end. 

The car makes another lap passing the cameras and news and police and firefighters. You looked at them in fear and made eye contact with one of the firefighters. One minute you felt at peace that you were gonna survive. 

Until you heard a click.

You woke up in a bed tied up. You thrash around in the bed screaming on top of your lungs. The doctors and nurses run to you holding you down before one of them plunges a syringe into your neck. Your eyes feel heaving and your vision becomes blurry. You hear muffled voices and you try to wear your hand to the steering wheel like you're still in the car. “He's in a traumatic state. He believes he’s still in the car. So until the dose fully goes through his body he’ll keep thinking that.” One voice says. “He survived a shot to the head and a car crash explosion. I think he can handle a dose.” You continue to drive your foot onto the end of the bed like it's a pedal and your hands steering into the air. Then your body falls limp, eyes closing. 

You wake up shooting straight up looking around seeing your girlfriend and boyfriend and some other people all looking at you. “Where's Cd/n? Where's my car! Did I win the race! Where's my team! Why am I in a hospital—-----”  “Your car is gone, but you're getting a new one from your sponsors, Your team is coming in a few hours, You… Well, a lot happened.” The Asian one says holding up his hand to you to shake “Chimney" You take his hand and shake it weakly. “You are one lucky man. You survived a shot to the head and a car crash that caught on fire an explosion.” A man with blonde hair smirks and gives you a wink.  “Who are y'all?” The group all introduce themselves to you. The group falls out promising to check on you soon only leaving Sergeant Grant and Captain Nash. “When can I get back to racing?” You ask Bobby. Bobby lets out a sigh and gives Athena a quick look before answering. “Well it's gonna take a while since the hospital thing and your team is making you go on pause because of the trauma and the burns.” You look at your arms and legs and let out a deep breath. You look at the mirror looking at your neck. You cup your face in your hands looking down crying softly. “Why was it me? I did nothing wrong...Why me, why god why!!” You scream out in your hands. You feel strong arms wrap around your shoulders and a one large hand on your thigh. You lean into Athena letting Bobby hold your waist massaging it. 

“Y/n dear, You are strong,handsome and one of a kind. Don’t worry Bobby and I know that you're gonna make one hell of a recovery and get back on those tracks crushing the game.” Athena says into your ear pressing a kiss on your cheek. Bobby silently agrees to his wife. “Y-you think so?” You ask Bobby looking into his eyes. “I know so Y/n. My wife is never wrong.” You smile at the couple words.

MONTHS AFTER AND Y/N FINALLY IS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO RACING. 

You walk into the stadium looking around with the biggest smile on your face. Your manager walks to you and the rest of the team all do a huge group hug welcoming you back. You and the rest of the team walk to the track showing you the new car. It's like your old but some new paint. You walk to the car and the hood of the car a light kiss giggling towards yourself. “Hi baby.” You say to the car like it's a human opening the hood checking it out. Once you thought it was good you kept expecting the rest of the car. “I love her.” You say to the manager touching the wheels of the car before standing up walking to your manager giving him a huge hug. “Well Y/n. Go try her out.” He hands you the keys and your helmet. You rush over to the car hopping in fast. You quickly start the car and hit the pedal taking off. You shout and scream in laughter and smile wide in adrenaline, missing the wheel and just the feeling of the drive. Since the accident you took the bus and walked everywhere. 

You start to drive laps then you turn your head to the left and see your Cd/n screaming at you “GO FASTER Y/N! IF I WAS ON THE WHEEL I WOULD HAD BEEN STILL ALIVE! I HATE YOU! I DESERVE YOUR LIFE YOUR FAME JUST YOUR FUCKING NAME!!!” You flinch and start to panic, arms trembling and stop the car in the middle of the track. You quickly unbuckle yourself and crawl out of the car crying on the floor and gasping for air. Then all of a sudden at once you feel smoke fill your lungs you turn your head looking at your arms. There on fire, you feel blood rushing down your head onto your lips and jaw. Turn your head facing the car that's currently on fire and you see Cd/n and his arm reach for you for help.

Your team runs to you shouting and asking what's wrong. You suddenly get pulled back into the real world. You look at your arms and legs gasping for air “W-what was that? I remembered everything… I-I left Cd/n and betrayed my oath never to leave my team behind.`` You remembered what you said to your team way before you were famous that you’ll never leave them behind. Bobby and Athena quickly sit besides you whispering into your ears. Buck looks at his team and asks one of Y/n team members “Do they know each other?”  They nod looking at Buck and the rest of the team that has confused faces. “Yeah they’re dating.” The whole team shouts what. “Yeah duh, Athena and Bobby are married right now and they found a boyfriend named Y/n.” The team member says in a tone that says are yall dumb. The team all look at each other and look back at the couple.

TIMESKIP LIKE ONLY A FEW DAYS LATER.

The team goes to Bobby and Athena house just for the fun of it and knocks on the door. Athena's daughter quickly opens the door ushering them inside. Eddie walks in first looking around making sure everyone is good until he sees you. You were shirtless and wearing basketball shorts showing off your scars to Athena's son who was in awe. Half of your upper body was scarred like your pecs and stomach. You were uncomfortable at first with your body until your significant others showed you to embrace your body showing love to your body. 

The whole team walked in not giving their presence to the three adults just watching them. Bobby stands up walking past you before squeezing your thigh and kissing you deeply before disappearing outside. “So yall gonna keep staring at my men or say something?” Athena jokes playfully before giving everyone a hug.

August 6 - Sicao Green Tunnel, Anping Tree House, Tainan Confucius Temple, and Hayashi Department Store

We were told to meet today at 1pm, so I had the morning to myself. I decided to go try an Asian massage. I just got a foot massage, and the masseuse told me that she can tell I’m not sleeping well based on rubbing my feet. It was cool experiencing Eastern medicine. Then, we were off on the bus for our tour of Tainan, which is the oldest city in Taiwan. Our first stop was at the Sicao Green Tunnel, which is a river with mangrove canopies hanging over both sides. We got on the boat tour, and we could see a great temple from the river. They gave us life jackets and hats. The boat took us down and back this beautiful river. Then, we went straight to the Anping Tree House, which consists of trees growing on top of the ruins of a house. It all looked so interesting. The roots of the trees growing down the brick walls of this old house. There was another building on the premises with a gift shop and more educational exhibits, including Chinese calligraphy practice paper. After that, we went to Tainan Confucius Temple, which was similar to the one I went to on my own. It had a surrounding wall with multiple rooms and then a central building. Our last stop was at Hayashi Department Store, which is a super historic building in Tainan. It has this old-style elevator that I got to ride up to the top floor in. On the roof, I saw a traditional Japanese gate. We also went shopping there. Later on, I walked to a famous beef noodle restaurant in Tainan because Peter said Tainan is known for its fresh beef.

Academic Reflection:

Peter told us at the Sicao Green Tunnel that the mangroves can’t get as much oxygen from the saltwater, so part of their roots are above the water line. At Anping Tree House, I learned more about banyan trees, which are the trees that are growing on the ruins of this house. I also learned about the underground military shelter right next to the house.

At the Confucius temple, Peter taught us how to tell north and south Chinese architecture apart. The northern style architecture has a straight roof, while the southern one is curved. This temple had a curved roof, so we knew it came from a southern Chinese design. At the department store, Peter taught us about the elevator, and he said that the Japanese-style gate is similar to the one we saw across the street from the Confucius temple. He also said that the current president of Taiwan used to be the mayor of Tainan, and he led the charge to reopen this department store.

Chapter Two: It doesn't scare me

In the first event of the Asian Games, Jungkook makes it through the heats, right into the final.

Judging by the faces of his teammates and Coach Lee, to apparently everyone’s surprise, but still, mostly to his own. 

(Well, maybe Min Yoongi is the only one who could be excluded from this equation. He didn’t seem very surprised.)

Jungkook is strangely unnerved, so it couldn’t have been anxiety that caused his surprise, only the everlasting doomerism in the back of his mind that has been whispering about preparing for his immediate failure as soon as he steps foot into the venue. So it’d be easier to face disappointment when he’s prepared for it.

But no. Of course not. 

He’s sat on the bleachers, quietly, with the ever so unbothered Min Yoongi who’s munching on some protein bars on his left, an unnecessarily bland meal for him but the older man doesn’t seem to mind, just as they did while they’ve watched the other swimmers compete in the heats in silence, when the final lineup is announced over the speakers. 

The static voice calls, “ Jeon Jungkook, South Korea ” and Yoongi just squeezes his knee and wordlessly stands up, a soft smile on his face as he beckons Jungkook to retreat back to the poolside with him. 

Min Yoongi, as Jungkook is rapidly learning today, is not the kind of coach that flutters your feathers up before a competition, stirring you up like carbonated water with a back massage or a couple series of rapid pats on your shoulders. No. He’s the kind of coach that takes his ruffle bag from Jungkook to carry it himself on his good shoulder as they walk towards the benches by the pool, the kind that slides his still wet towel off Jungkook’s neck and folds it around his own, and makes him drink some water, eat another bite more in the breaks. 

He’s calm, and he’s soft, and Jungkook’s sure that someone else might be annoyed with Yoongi’s low-key demeanor in this situation. But not him, not Jungkook, so it seems. 

He’s not sure if it was his own composedness or Yoongi’s serene presence that came first, but whichever it may be, Jungkook feels as calm as the sea after a storm, and yet— the eye of which is still ahead of him, mockingly staring him down from days ahead. 

And yet. 

And yet. 

Standing here still on the other side of it, it all feels a bit less daunting. 

If only he knew whether it is an unhealthy surge of confidence, or his subconscious having already accounted for a failure. Why, the first step up is easy, since the fall is much, much shorter. But this is the final, the final of his first competition of the event, and firsts tend to leave their marks, and somewhere within himself, Jungkook fears this calmness is just his heart that has already cushioned his bones to break that fatal fall. 

He somewhat trusts that Min Yoongi wouldn’t do that, so maybe it’s Jungkook who is fooling himself —

— on a second note. Scratch all of the above. 

Suddenly, he’s nervous as fuck . 

You probably can thank all that thinking. 

“Can you recognise my form?” Yoongi asks all of a sudden from where he’s leaning down, organizing Jungkook’s stuff on the bench into a strict, straight line, peering up with a raised eyebrow. They’re the first words he’s uttered since Jungkook and him had a light lunch earlier — his calmness has been accompanied by a state of silence today. As it is most days, to be fair.

It’s nice. Jungkook is growing rather fond of silences by Yoongi’s side.

“I… suppose I do?” he answers, stripping his eyes away from the pool where he has been previously zoning out. “But, like, what do you mean? Why?”

“Let’s say, could you pick me out from a crowd, like, quickly?”

“I think I could, sunbaenim, yes.” Jungkook shrugs, handing back the water bottle that was offered to him into Yoongi’s awaiting hands. He cups it closed, and puts it in the line of stuff on the bench. 

What’s so important about that question to ask before Jungkook jumps headfirst into the water, he doesn’t know, but Jungkook is fairly confident that he could . Pick Yoongi out of a crowd, that is.

Jungkook spent his adolescent years with his eyes glued to the TV screen, telling apart this one little blob on the screen that was Min Yoongi from all the other little blobs that were other swimmers that Yoongi had left far behind in the water like his own personal after waves. 

Jungkook has spent a month with his eyes always searching for his coach, his own personal extension, the only one. 

Those strands of shiny, black hair are familiar. That pale skin, those soft edges, that lanky figure, they’re all familiar. It’s all that Jungkook’s been looking at, even before he knew how to just float on a body of water. 

Somewhere in the building, a voice is calling to summon the competitors for the men’s 200 meter freestyle final, and without a second thought to Yoongi’s out-of-place question, Jungkook moves to retreat to his assigned lane. 

Or would, if Yoongi’s palm didn’t latch around his elbow, holding him back for a moment more.

“I will be waiting for you when you finish, anyways. Do one thing for me, though, will you?”

“Yeah?”

“Before anything else, look for me first.”

Jungkook nods wordlessly, and Yoongi copies his action before he lets his arms fall to his side.

“You don’t need me to say good luck, Jungkook-ah.”

“Thank you, sunbaenim.”

It’s deadly quiet as he waits for the starting signal to go off — not in reality, but in the world Jungkook enters into, it’s only the sound of his measured exhales as he crouches on the starting block that make any noise that reaches to his ears. The air moving through his entire body, toe to finger to the top of his head, and the growing expectation of a whistle blow. 

The cheers dampen, and instead of their excitement, in his ears it’s only his own one that runs through his veins while Jungkook prepares to head for the dive. He feels their scorching eyes on his back and it’s getting warmer and warmer on dry land, but there’s a blanket of cold water awaiting him to jump into it. 

Then it comes.

The shrilling sound of the whistle going off is the last intruder Jungkook actively registers from the outside world before his body is rushed into a cold, comforting embrace of the water. 

But it’s not the world that went quiet. It’s the mind itself. 

And finally, in this serene quiet — Jungkook is finally back home. 

Home as he is fully submerged in water, his limbs fighting for his way forward through the classical element. To push himself through the water, forward, to push himself up for air, upward. He pops back up for air to breathe with the audience who cheer, and cry, and shout, and it’s nearly deafening to live but it only takes a fraction of a second and then it’s all gone. Only the blunt noise of the water as it glides past Jungkook in makeshift waves. 

And again, and again, and again. To make himself be , just for another moment longer. 

And another, and another, and another. End. 

Before he knows it, Jungkook is patting his palm against the electronic panel on the wall, breaking through the surface to brace himself against the edge of the swimming pool.

The end always comes quicker than he thought. Swimming is a whole lifetime, a lifetime that’s gone in the blink of an eye. 

It’s a reflex after so many years, the way automatically, Jungkook moves onto the next step of his ritual, and his head starts to turn left as soon as he manages to push the goggles off his eyes — the scoreboard. 

But before his vision could clear enough to make out something intelligible from the blurred, neon letters, it goes dark. The hand over his eyes that covers the view turns his face away with little effort.

“Sun… sunbaenim?” Jungkook heaves, breathing still rattled from the extortion, and it takes a couple of tries to voice all syllables of that one, single word fully and in order. 

“Me first, Jungkook-ah, I asked you,” Min Yoongi says, taking his hand off Jungkook’s eyes only so that it can travel to the side of his face instead, for Yoongi to keep a warm and steady hold, angled towards himself. “Answer a few questions first, please. Did you enjoy yourself just now? Was it fun?”

Oh . Jungkook gets it. The weird question — another quirk of Yoongi’s. Like the running. Maybe there’s a lesson hidden here, as well.

“Yeah,” he breathes.

“Did you love swimming today?”

“Yes.”

“Are you satisfied with your performance?”

“I think so, sunbae. Are you?”

“Who cares?”

“I kinda do.”

“Okay, Jungkook-ah. I was.” Yoongi nods, the beginning of a smile in the corner of his lips. It looks pretty. Jungkook doesn’t even know his results yet, and still, whatever he might find on that board couldn’t be that bad if Min Yoongi is looking at him like that. 

The elder's hand slips off Jungkook entirely this time, letting him go. “You can look now.”
