MONSTA X’s Hyungwon to Appear at ‘ASEA 2025’ as Host — First Official Schedule After Military Discharge

The multitalented MONSTA X member Hyungwon is set to take the stage at ASEA 2025.

On April 3, the ASEA Organizing Committee officially announced that Hyungwon has been confirmed to appear at the Asia Star Entertainer Awards 2025 presented by ZOZOTOWN (ASEA 2025), set to be held on May 28 and 29 at K-Arena Yokohama in Japan.

Hyungwon, who enlisted for his mandatory military service on November 14, 2023, is currently serving as an active-duty soldier in the South Korean army. With his discharge scheduled for May 13, fans can now look forward to his highly anticipated return to the entertainment industry—starting with his role as MC for the second day of ASEA 2025 on May 29, alongside actress Kim Hye-yoon and Younghoon of THE BOYZ. Hyungwon was actually the first MC to be confirmed, but the announcement was delayed due to his military status.

Since his debut in 2015, Hyungwon has built a reputation as a versatile performer, known for his strong live vocals, stage presence, and producing abilities. In 2023, he expanded his musical spectrum through the unit Shownu X Hyungwon, formed with MONSTA X’s leader Shownu. Beyond music, Hyungwon has showcased his talents in acting, variety shows, MC roles, and even as DJ H.ONE—cementing his status as a true all-rounder. Fans can expect him to bring that same star power to ASEA 2025.

Adding to the excitement, Hyungwon will reunite with his MONSTA X bandmates the day after his discharge, on May 14, to celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary.

Now in its second year, ASEA is a major award show that unites Asia’s top stars and their fans through music. The inaugural show in April 2024 featured global acts including Stray Kids—who swept three major awards including the grand prize—as well as TXT, DAY6, TREASURE, SHINee’s Taemin, and Creepy Nuts.

ASEA 2025 promises an even bigger spectacle, with performances by top K-pop and Asian artists who’ve made notable achievements over the past year. The lineup includes: aespa, ATARASHII GAKKO!, &TEAM, BADVILLAIN, ENHYPEN, HANA, Hearts2Hearts, KiiiKiii, NCT WISH, NEXZ, NiziU, n.SSign, SAKURAZAKA46, SKY-HI, THE BOYZ, THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE, timelesz, and Xdinary Heroes (in alphabetical order).

The event’s first day (May 28) will be hosted by Juyeon of THE BOYZ and Leeseo of IVE, with Jang Keun-suk serving as the Grand Prize presenter. On the second day (May 29), Hyungwon, Kim Hye-yoon, and Younghoon will take over MC duties. Actor Choo Young-woo, a nominee in the acting category, is also confirmed to attend.

ASEA 2025 is jointly hosted by Newsen, Korea’s top entertainment and sports media, celebrating its 20th anniversary, and @style magazine, a leading star and style magazine marking its 13th year, with production by The Star E&M, and official support from the ASEA Organizing Committee and ZOZOTOWN.
