I don’t know whether you’re referring to Aditi Sharma from Kaleerein or Aditi Dev Sharma from Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka, but I’ll do both since I’m familiar with their work.

Aditi Sharma from Kaleerein: 7/10. Considering that this is her first show as a lead I’ll cut her some slack but as a performer she has grown since the beginning of the show, atleast from what I’ve seen. Her character Meera was initially presented as a typical “Manic Pixie Dream Girl” in the promos especially were quite misleading imho. It took her a while to get a sense of her character I feel in the beginning, and it was quite evident the way she acted in her scenes but as the show progressed, so did Aditi in terms of acting, which is always a good sign. Her Punjabi is more polished compared to the earlier episodes which is quite important since her character is well, Punjabi and the rest of the cast members, including ALL of Meera’s family members except her siblings, and the actress that plays Pammi Kapoor are native Punjabis. She’s got great screen presence and can definitely hold her own against her more experienced co-stars. I believe her forte lies in scenes where Meera is shown to be confronting someone whether it’s a potential sautaan, bitchy family members or Vivaan, as well as tashan wale scenes where she’s fighting back/rebuking Vivaan (ML of the show) when he fucks up. I’ve also noticed that she’s incredible at more nuanced/non-verbal acting. She shines in scenes where her character Meera is shown to be undergoing a lot of internal battles/dilemmas, and to convey that purely through expressions is not easy task. I will say though, she does fall short in scenes where Meera’s shown to be really stressed out (??) she tends to stutter and indulge in what I like to call “verbal word vomit” and it does give me second hand embarrassment. She definitely really needs to work on her dialogue delivery, hence the reason behind my rating, and is a huge part of the viewing experience for me especially.

Aditi DEV Sharma: 9/10. An incredibly versatile actress. I’ve been familiar with her work for quite a while now from her work in Bollywood (Mausam, LVRB), her work in tellywood (watched a bit of Ganga, and have been watching Silsila-BRK on and off), and finally her work in Punjabi cinema. I will say this though, as much as I appreciate her work in Punjabi films, I do feel like she has been typecast in her films, always essaying the role of a naive village girl in a period film. (She’s done 4 roles like that in total, 5 including her upcoming Punjabi film titled “Laatu”) There are distinctive differences in the roles she chooses there, but they’re essentially following the same template. This lowkey upsets me, because I know what she’s capable of doing, and wish she would opt for roles that weren’t pratically the same with different names. I guess she considers scripts bc they are actually GREAT, and those films are actually my faves but anyways-.

Surbhi Chandna- 10/10. Ohman. OH MAN. Do not even get me started. In my very humble opinion, Miss Chandna is the best performer/actress out of everyone from the entire cast, and one of the best, if not the best tellywood has to offer. The range this woman has managed to show in the span of 2 years in one show alone, is so astounding and praiseworthy. Can manage to make x10 the expressions faster than your fave can even manage to say the first syllable of “ex-pres-sion.” she invented expressions and comic timing, I don’t make da rulez. Can manage to make you laugh till you cry and deliver goosebump-inducing performances within (1) episode. Literally lights up the screen and keeps you captivated with her screen presence, all while presenting each and every given emotion so effortlessly, with great ease. I’m gonna stfu before I end up sounding more biased than I already am. also, why does this sound like a really badly written resume skjhjdkh.

Asha Negi:- N/A. Can’t really speak for her acting chops since I haven’t really seen her work at all, but she’s beautiful and cute af, and seems like an actual sweetheart offscreen!

AAA Presented 5th Edition of Dr Sarojini Naidu Award for Women

New Delhi: The 5th edition of Dr. Sarojini Naidu International Award for Working Women brought light to the 7th Global Literary Festival Noida 2021 when one hundred prominent women were given award for their untiring contribution to the society from India and abroad.

The award was constituted by Asian Academy of Arts in association with AAFT University of Media and Arts, International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry and a powerful women organization called International Women’s Film Forum six years back in a board meeting to highlight, support and honor women who all have contributed to the nation through their services to different strata of life and works of humanity.

“Women is the store of Wealth be it an education, humanity, social science, love and affection, family bonding and so on. She is the master of overall development be it at home or outside, she is a motivator, her presence bring enthusiasm in life and she is the one who teaches Nationalism. I salute all the winners of the prestigious Dr Sarojini Naidu Award,” said Sandeep Marwah President of Marwah Studios and Chair for SNIAWW.

“Females are the most beautiful, gorgeous creatures in the whole world. And I think that we are gorgeous no matter how we look like. You don’t have to play masculine to be a strong woman,” said H.E. Matsepo Molise-Ramakoae Minister of foreign Affairs and Internal Relations, Government of Lesotho in the capacity of Chief Guest of the show.

A strong woman is a woman determined to do something others are determined not be done,” said H.E. Jacqueline Mukangira High Commissioner of Rwanda to India. “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness,” added H.E. Hayet Talbi Ambassador of Tunisia to India.

“We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational, and so disciplined they can be free” said Angelique Monet President of AFI World Peace Initiative “Once you figure out what respect tastes like, it tastes better than attention,” said H.E. Lineo Irene High Commissioner of Lesotho to India.

Dr. Divik Ramesh renowned writer was presented with Life Time Achievement Award by Asian Academy of Arts in the presence of Large audience he narrated his journey and thanked AAA.

Asha Negi is back with the second season of her web show, Baarish 2. The actor plays a middle-class Marathi woman who gets married to a businessman, played by Sharman Joshi. Asha, who shot to fame as Purvi in the hit TV show Pavitra Rishta, is currently living alone during lockdown and it’s the domestic chores that bother her the most.

The actor spoke to Hindustan Times in a video interview about the show and life amid lockdown. Talking about working with Sharman again, the actor said, “Sharman is very sweet and calm, apart from the fact that he is so talented and such a great performer. We had a lot of fun shooting for the show. In the first season, we took time before we became friends. We were so comfortable in the second season that we had to put in efforts to become more awkward and shy on screen. But otherwise, it was a great time shooting with him.”

  Asha is also seen kissing on screen for the first time and confessed it was an “awkward” experience for her. “I was very awkward and very shy while shooting for the kissing scene. When Ekta ma’am told me about it, I told her that I don’t really have a problem but I will be very awkward and shy on set, you will have to take care of that and make me do it. Director Nandita and Sharman were super supportive and they helped me throughout the scene to be more comfortable.”

Asha is currently staying all by herself during lockdown. On being asked about the challenges of her situation, she said, “The biggest challenge is cooking yourself and doing your dishes after eating. The cleaning process is difficult because the help is not coming anymore. Apart from that, you miss your family and meeting your friends.”

The actor also shared about bringing about a change in her lifestyle. “I have become more responsible and understanding that it’s about the simple things in life,” she said.

Asha is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s Ludo and revealed the makers were all set to unveil the trailer but it was delayed due to lockdown.

In fact, Deepika said in a press statement, “If I may say, Balam Pichkari is like Rang Barse (Silsila; 1981) of our generation. Nowadays, every Holi party starts with Rang Barse, and the second song has to be Balam Pichkari. So, it’s become a new-age Holi anthem. It feels nice to have been part of such an iconic song.” Do Me A Favour (Waqt: The Race Against Time)   Featuring Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar enjoying the revelry of Holi, the song was crooned by Anu Malik and Sunidhi Chauhan. Sameer wrote the song while Anu Malik composed the number for the 2005 film Waqt: The Race Against Time. Holi Khere Raghuveera (Baghban)  Starring Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan, the song was composed by Aadesh Shrivastava for the 2003 film Baghban. Amitabh himself sung the song, along with Alka Yagnik, Sukhwinder Singh and Udit Narayan. Sameer wrote the lyrics for the song. Ang Se Ang Lagana (Darr)  Featuring Sunny Deol, Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, this song was composed by Shiv Hari. Alka Yagnik, Vinod Rathod, Sudesh Bhosle and Devki Pandit lent their voices to the song. The song from Darr was penned by Anand Bakshi. Rang Barse(Silsila) No Holi playlist can be complete without this iconic number featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Jaya Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar. Why is it the most loved song by champions of the festival? Perhaps, because of the playful lyrics written by none other than Amitabh’s father and legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Yash Chopra directed the 1981 film. Holi Ke Din Dil (Sholay)  This song has Dharmendra romancing Hema Malini in the legendary 1975 film, Sholay. RD Burman composed the song that was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics for the song. Aaj Na Chodenge (Kati Patang) Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar lent their voices for this song picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh. The peppy number was composed by RD Burman and the 1970 movie was directed by Shakti Samanta. Jogi Ji Dheere (Nadiya Ke Paar)  Picturised on Sachin Pilgaonkar and Sadhna Singh, the song was composed by Ravindra Jain for the 1982 film . Chal Ja Re Hat Natkhat One of the oldest Holi songs featured in a Hindi film, this one is also iconic because of the brilliant performance by Sandhya in this V Shantaram movie from 1959. There is no easy way to say it: Baarish 2 — from Ekta Kapoor’s stable of romance/family drama — does not remind you of gentle pitter-patter of raindrops and nature re-energising itself. Instead, it puts you slam-dunk in the middle of a torrential Mumbai downpour where you struggle for your very life as you pick your way through manholes. Binge watching Sharman Joshi and Asha Negi-starrer Baarish 2 is not something I would advise, especially during the lockdown. The story of a couple breaking up over the flimsiest of reasons is stagnant and dated.

2009’s successful rags to riches tragic love story, Pavitra Rishta, starred Asha as a middle class Marathi girl. More than a decade later, Asha is still playing the same role in Baarish 2. No offence meant towards her get-up or character background, but as an actor we expect some progression in her choice of work. While the human race is still searching for just one reason to feel good about the arrival of the year 2020, Asha and team seems to be stuck in the 2000s. Despite a selective but noteworthy work, Asha fails to give us even one reason why she agreed to do this never-ending tale of messy family drama and caricaturist performances.

It comes as no surprise that creator Ekta Kapoor doesn’t believe in happy endings — ’the end’, to be precise. Known for introducing the trend of generation leaps that seem t go over centuries on Indian TV, the showmaker continues to serve the tried and tested recipes with hardly any improvisation. After inducing some interest with an innocent love story of a rich adopted businessman and a Marathi middle class girl high on principles, the second season turns out to be all that the ardent fanbase of Ekta Kapoor’s serials has been watching for more than a decade now. The middle class woman is still tagged a gold-digger and the innocent act of a friend feeding cake to a married woman continues to be reason enough to ignite the fire of jealously and betrayal. Just like the days of Komolika, the small screen characters still believe everything they hear and the heroine still prefers to keep mum rather than taking a stand for herself when wronged by the man she loves.

The second season, just like the first, digs deep into reasons that led the ‘perfect couple’ Anuj and Gauravi to call it quits. While it builds up successfully to quite an extent with old school love and bearable antics of romance, it eventually turns out to be a cringeworthy experience which makes you check the calendar yet again. Indeed, it’s 2020 and this is an unnecessary agony you best avoid.

As shooting for all shows and films remains stalled amid lockdown, the show promises to be a saving grace for the dedicated target audience of daily soaps. And one criteria truly fulfilled by this new outing is the never-ending runtime. The endless number of twists and turns are far from raising curiousity and look as dragged as a broken car in heavy rain. It leaves the viewer with a restlessness to witness a conclusive love story but the makers are yet not done with dragging the painful saga of a complicated husband-wife relationship and outdated family chaos.

Spread across 11 episodes and more to come (with no official word about the end), Baarish 2 also marks the comeback of Bollywood star Jeetendra as a marriage counsellor. Even he seems far from reaching a conclusion as to why the lead couple is headed towards divorce, just like the makers who are in no mood to bring the story to a logical conclusion. Keeping a count of the episodes, it would have been a better idea to serve it on the regular entertainment channels which already have a dedicated audience waiting to lap it up.

Streaming on Altbalaji and Zee 5, Baarish 2 hits the reputation earned by past efforts such as Sakshi Tanwar and Mona Singh’s MOM or Vikrant Massey and Harleen Sethi’s Broken But Beautiful. Even Shweta Tiwari’s Hum Tum And Them was a decent progression with children dealing with their divorced parents in a mature way. But Baarish 2 takes the two streaming platforms a decade back.

If you are desperately willing to watch some typical Ekta Kapoor’s brand of drama, tune in to the comparatively better stuff offered by the same streaming services. Better let go of this one.
