I love this! I'm glad they're both ok and still have each other! And that she also calls Rocket "rabbit". That kills me! In Endgame you can hear some of the Asgaradian soldiers call him "rabbit" too after he gets the stone out of Jane! Anyways, this is a great piece and I love it!
promises made in ruins // thor x reader
Tumblr media
request: Hello! Could u maybe write a Thor x reader where the reader is also Asgardian and it’s post Thor Ragnarok. The guardians of the galaxy find them and when he wakes up he is just really concerned for her?
summary: your homeland is trashed—you wouldn’t think you could lose any more than you already have. but when the love of your life is put in danger, you risk adding both your lives to the count of things taken away.
words: 1048
warnings: some violence
a/n: sorry for the delay!!! i originally intended for this to be a longer fic, but it didn’t end up working out for me. this final product still isn’t super amazing, but hopefully you enjoy!!

Sweat blinds you and you’re choking on your own hair, but none of it matters. The only sensation you’re focused on is Thor’s fingers tightly wrapped around yours. Everything is whipping by too fast—your vision is blocked, your breath can’t catch up with you, and you don’t even know where in Asgard’s ruins you are or where you’re going. Somewhere safer, Thor had yelled when you had asked him, but the idea of any sort of security feels laughable.
A particularly violent shock rocks the earth beneath your feet, and you stumble, nearly hitting the ground but being pulled up just in time by Thor. The two of you duck behind a large stone slab, and you collapse against Thor’s chest, panting, tears falling without thought.
He whispers your name twice. Once to try and get your attention, twice to actually do so, voice firming and somehow softening at the same time. You blink and look up at him, tears tracking through the dirt on your cheeks.
“My love,” he says. His voice is barely above a whisper, and yet you can hear it over the screams and crying and falling buildings. Always the king, always commanding—whether it be his people or your attention. “I need you to stay here. Do not move—promise me that.”
You look up at him in confusion. “What—?”
“Promise me,” he says, looking deeply, sadly into your eyes.
“Thor?”
“Please.”
“All right, but—“ and then, with a quick kiss to your forehead, he is gone. You scream out his name, sobbing but not moving. As long as you stay behind the stone slab, you should be out of view of Thanos and his men. At least, that’s what Thor is betting on.
It seems like an eternity you crouch there, shivering, listening intently and yet trying to block everything out, sobs wracking your body. You can’t see much of anything from your hiding spot, but you have heard countless snapping bones and pleas for mercy. It sours your stomach, but you don’t dare do a thing—you promised Thor, and the only thing that would cause you to move from that place would be—
“Enough, Thanos! You have caused enough destruction to sate your appetite for ag—“ Thor’s voice is cut off by a wet thud, and you can hear painful, rasping coughs come from your lover’s throat. Your tears flow again, and you maneuver to an angle where you can see—you have to see, you can’t just sit there. As soon as you do, though, you regret it.
Thor’s face is dirt-smeared and bruised almost beyond recognition, and a steady trickle of blood drains from his open, panting mouth. He slowly, painfully stands, but he’s not fully straightened up and the signature fire is gone from his eyes. Your heart plummets as you take him in, but you hardly get a look at him before one of Thanos’ lackeys grabs him by the throat and throws him against a wall. He hits the ruin with a horrifying thump and slides to the ground, helpless, wheezing.
Without thinking, you rush away from your safe place and straight to him, tears falling as you reach his side.
“Thor, my darling, please get up, we need to move,” you say in a pleading, heartbroken whisper. “It’s not safe.”
He looks at you from one swollen eye. “You—promised—“ he coughs, tears fighting through his bruised eyelids.
“I know, I—I couldn’t leave you alone. Not like this,” you say, tears falling into his face. They take a layer of dirt away, revealing more scrapes and bruises than you can count.
“Go—back,” he manages, trying to cup your face but barely reaching your skin before his arm falls limply against your shoulder. You take it and kiss his palm, opening your mouth to respond.
Before you can get anything out, someone’s boot knocks your head so hard that your world goes black.

You blink, slightly disoriented, your head spinning  slightly as your cottony thoughts try to clear themselves. Glimpses of metal is all you can see to clue you in to your surroundings. You try to sit up fully to see where you are, but are stopped by a hand on your shoulder.
The hand belongs to a strange, alien face with large eyes and antennae which are alight with some sort of strange glow. “She wakes,” the alien says in a high, keening voice. Footsteps make their way over to you and you brace for some sort of attack, but instead your face is stroked by Thor’s shaking fingers.
“Thor?” you ask, and he smiles at you, eyes welling up. His tearful gaze looks you over as his hands touch you, almost not believing you’re there. “Thor, I’m okay,” you smile at him, and his tears begin to fall.
“Thought I lost you,” he murmurs against your hair, kissing it softly. His lips make their way to your jaw, and he whispers “I love you” to the skin there, marking his words with his tears. He says it with gentle yet insistent kisses to your cheek, your neck, your forehead, and finally your mouth. “Please don’t ever do that again,” he sobs. “I don’t think I could—“ his words break off as he kisses you again, the action communicating more than his broken speech ever could. He’s all mouth, desperately trying to convey to you the thoughts whirring through his head.
“I promise,” you say against his lips, and you feel his smile at your words. With another soft kiss to your jaw, he helps you slowly sit up. As you do so, a group of creatures comes into view. A short, furry one speaks with a heavy, sarcastic accent.
“All right, lovebirds. Touching as it is, we’ve got places to go.”
You cock your head, whispering “What’s with the rabbit?” to Thor out of the corner of your mouth.
“There is much I have to tell you,” Thor says. “These are the Guardians of the Galaxy.”
You wave at them, gaining different responses, and rest your head on Thor’s shoulder. For now, you were safe. The things you had gone through would haunt you for a long time, but at least you had the chance to heal from them now with Thor at your side.
