As the peacock fly
Tumblr media
I had wanted to take a photo of indian peacocks actually flying for years. The large and heavy birds with their train of feathers are able to fly, but often they prefer walking. Flying is hard work.
Not this one. He and his flock of peafowls where walking on the roofs of the buildings of the Lamido palace in Ngouandéré. Getting around meant flying. And I spent some quality time walking after them waiting for the jump and flight.
Tumblr media
The local chieftain/king/Lamido in Nguandere had this old, classic symbol of power and wealth - peacocks wandering free in his private gardens.
They are not elegant flyers.
Royal symbol
The indian name for peafowl is Mayura, meaning killer of snakes. Understandably, a fashion statement that is actually useful probably help them being closely connected to culture and power.
Killing of snakes is also symbolic for cycling of time.
According to myths, the Mayura was created by feathers from Garuda, a highly important birddemigod in hinduism and buddhist culture.
Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, have peafowl as her symbol.

@elviratheepic submitted: I've got pictures of some little guys from some recent walks, and a little zebra spider(?) On the wall of my nanna's house. I actually hadn't knowingly seen a jumping spider irl before this year. I didn't really realise we had any in the uk. I love the way they move and look around! They're such charismatic little spiders :)
Little video of said movement. After this video it hopped on my thumb for a second and gave me a jump! So cute! <3
Oh yes you'd struggle to find a place in the world that jumping spiders DON'T live. There's even a species that lives at 22,000ft up in the Himalayas. The zebra jumping spider is the most common in the UK, but you've got dozens of species there. <-- Link if you want to see what others live in the UK!
Love the other friends here, too, especially the peacock butterflies :)

2.2 Spoilers
There are a lot of birds on Penacony. Characters directly called after (Black Swan, Robin) or strongly associated with birds (Aventurine's peacock, Ratio's owl, winged halovian Sunday always accompanied by his purple bird). Plus all the birds of Penacony - statues of birds, figurines of birds, paintings of birds, origami birds and so on.
And out of all these birds, the peacock is the only one that doesn't fly (technically, they can fly, but not for long, sort of like chickens).
So all these conversations we hear in 2.2 about flying and non-flying birds can be applied to Aventurine.
For example, this:
Tumblr media
And Sunday's opinion about how the birds who are not good at flying should be locked in cages for their own good (yes well done Sunday, Aventurine would be very excited to hear about it. ouch).
The game has been exploiting Aventurine's peacock symbolism before (his deliberately eye-catching appearance, and "jarring" voice), but 2.2 added a whole new level to it with this metaphor.
It would be interesting to analyze all the mentions of birds in 2.2 from that point of view, but transcripts are not yet available. And watching through 10 hours long walkthroughs to find all mentions of birds is a bit too much.

the ruikasa that lives in my head is not romantic in the SLIGHTEST and it cracks me up. sharing my repulsed aro ruikasa thoughts here hehehe don't mind me
first of all i just cannot see tenma tsukasa above all people, the aromantic of project sekai (he's competing with ichika for number one coded aro) sparing one single thought in his empty head for romantic feelings. i feel like tsukasa lacks all common sense surrounding society's idea of what is suggestive/romantic/flirtatious, to the point where if he were to be assigned a role that required him to perform a kiss scene or something of the sort, he'd be all "boy oh boy im going to knock the audience's SOCKS off with this one" and completely disregard that this is actually very very embarrassing for the poor actor that has to be on the receiving end of his rehearsed romantic gestures
oh yeah, speaking of rehearsed romantic gestures
i need you to picture a pathetic tenma tsukasa, specifically kamikou fes tsukasa, on one knee in front of his mirror at 2 in the morning, reciting his cheesy love monologue and chuckling to himself after for how GOOD he is. "just ham it up. it'll look so good. i'm so good. genuinely who else is professing their undying love for their soulmate like i am"
on the other hand, rui actually has thoughts. these thoughts fill him with such distress it makes him feel nauseous. he's really just going about his day, rehearsing with wxs at the wonder stage when he suddenly feels a surge of warmth swirl in his chest whenever tsukasa gladly complies with his wacky ideas. he's just trying to live his poor life when the excitement and adrenaline from performing shows with wxs has him in shambles later because he's debating whether or not this is what everyone calls Romantic Love (it's not. he's just a repulsed aro loser who would die for his friends)
tsukasa: rui, throw anything my way and i'll deliver with 12000% !!!!! guaranteed!!!! as always!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA
rui: (god are you trying to torture me or what. am i deserving of such a person. Goodness gracious i feel like im floating whenever I'm around these guys is this some kind of sorcery I'm unaware of. i think my heart is going to twist and leap out of my chest they're so good they're so wonderful and im really just here aren't I im really just here and oh my freaking god is this what they call having a crush. is this what everyone around me has been hyping up. jumping jellyfish if it is, it feels AWFUL and i can't believe i've been thinking i'm missing out. no but then what really defines romantic feelings because if we're talking pros and cons and hypotheticals and possibilities, i would not want to kiss tsukasa like that, but isn't that a given when you love someone in that way. am i crazy am i broken am i an anomaly. I need to write this down for later and perform a google search)

Now that Pragmagik has finally dropped his video with the final results of his "A Legendary Bird of Every Type" Pokemon design contest, I can finally share my entries to said contest!
I wish I had my original design notes I could just copy paste, but alas, since the channel is closed I guess I didn't save a copy elsewhere.
This is Fluttrece! I wanted to challenge myself tackling bug type first, since it's hard to make non-bug creatures embody the bug type. It's based on hummingbird hawkmoths and peafowl. I wanted to marry the iridescent blue-green shimmer of peacock feathers and the shimmer of green hummingbird hawkmoth scales. I gave it a bright and mesmeric color palette to try and evoke the colors in the eye spots on a peacock's tail and on the wings of some butterflies and moths. I also wanted to evoke some of the colors and shapes in the wings that you see in Madagascan sunset moths.
Pokédex Entry: There have been very few sightings of this Pokémon in history, and its behavior is not well documented. It lives deep in dense rain forests and feeds on nectar, cultivating large, lush gardens that become havens for bug type Pokémon. Its wings shimmer in a multitude of iridescent colors and patterns that it seems to change at will. Because of it's ability to change colors, many researchers and explorers throughout history have made conflicting reports as to its appearance.

i'm still thinking about NOPE and specifically about jean jacket... what a fucking excellent alien... it works as both a clever visual metaphor and as one of the most bizarre and interesting creature designs i've seen in a long while. thank you for your service mr peele
