Kael’thas chuckled. “Well done! No more setting books on fire, I hope?” Jaina turned scarlet, remembering the incident. When she’d first arrived, her talent with fire had needed some desperate honing. She’d accidentally incinerated a tome while working with Kael’thas— one he’d actually been holding at the time. He’d responded by insisting that for the next few months, she would need to practice all fire spells in the vicinity of the pools that encircled the prison area. “Er… no, that hasn’t happened for a while.”
Those assembled roared with delight, as Arthas knew they would. Arthas bowed at Jaina, then leaned in and whispered, “Give them a show—they’ll love it.” Jaina nodded imperceptibly, then turned to the crowd and waved. Their cheering increased. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, briefly revealing her nervousness, then composed her face. She closed her eyes and lifted her hands, murmuring an incantation. Jaina was dressed in fire hues of red, yellow, and orange. As small balls of flame began to materialize in her hands, glowing faintly at first and then with increasing brightness, she looked to Arthas like fire itself for a moment. She held the fire in her hands with ease, comfort, and mastery, and she knew that the days when she had little control over her spells were long gone. She wasn’t going to “become” a powerful mage; she obviously already was one, in fact if not in title. And then she extended both hands. The balls of fire leaped like a bullet fired from a gun, hurtling toward the enormous straw effigy. It erupted into flame at once, and the onlookers gasped, then broke into wild applause. Arthas grinned. The wicker man never caught on fire that quickly when an ordinary brand was touched to its base.

every day we get a little more tempted to write out a long essay with references and everything showing how Arthas (esp in rise of the lich king) has major gay coding (also some trans fem reading can be put in there but i... am insane for that probably), but i don't know if the tag is ready for that brick through the window
(i get the bi interpretation too and i don't mind it, but comparing how he views jaina vs how he views kael'thas, it is night and day)

Arthas and Jaina ❄️ I'm currently rereading Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, and I'm remembering how dramatic their story was. I thought it would be a good time to draw them together!

In Regards to Gene
Content warning: abuse, r-pe, and light discussions of World of Warcraft
In a previous post that I have since taken down, I discussed the idea of the Shadow Knight Polycule and their victims in Laurance and Vylad. And in this discussion I really got away from myself and wrote some stuff that seemed... well not great at the time, but fitting for the characters and the story I wanted to tell. This reading wasn't very kind to Gene, but I've never been kind to Gene. I've been treating Gene like a punching bag since I first had to suffer through Phoenix Drop High Season 1, and it only worsened when I had to suffer through Lovers Lane.
As a result I hadn't thought about MCD Gene in a more sympathetic light until after that post went up. It was after that post went up that I started doing more ruminating on the Nether, The Shadow King, and the absolute horror of a Shadow Knights existence. It was after this ruminating that I realized that what happened with Gene was that I was treating him well...
Like Arthas Menethil. For a bit of context for those of you who haven't lost brain cells over World Of Warcraft, Arthas is basically the biggest evilest villain in WoW, but he's a villain the player can see the entire rise and fall of. The first campaign puts you in his shoes as a young paladin, and you watch as he constantly makes the worst, most violent, most evil choices through the entire campaign. Arthas is just an absolute and unapologetic monster who creates so many victims through his entire miserable existence that he keeps mementos of them.
And a lot of WoW fans try to characterize Arthas' story as a hero's fall thing? Like he was a good person who was corrupted by bad forces, even though you're shown him being a vile evil person before Frostmourne and the Lich King start fucking with him. Arthas was just a monster looking for an excuse. And I think I let that color my perception of Gene because he really is similar to Arthas in a lot of ways. He's pretty evil, manipulates people like nobody's business, uses magic to do so a lot, has a tense bitter relationship with an old companion, harasses one particular woman with white hair and an association to the color purple a lot, and the actual text of MCD never encourages the viewer to take a sympathetic look towards him, just like WoW.
As a result, I wrote him a lot like Arhtas, which in hindsight, might have been too harsh. Gene does have some redeeming qualities, and honestly with enough work he could possibly have been redeemed at some point. The tragedy of Gene in my rewrite is that said point in time has long past. Anyone foolish enough to try doing so now won't succeed.
Gene was not a good person before the Shadow King found him. A person worth understanding? Yes. A person with a chance of redemption? Maybe, depends on how Dante feels. A person who was also a victim of the Shadow King? Yes.
And that's where I changed my tune on Gene. While I hold the belief that Gene was far from perfect before he got turned, he still had a chance to be a good person before said turning. And the process of being broken down from the person he was into essentially an extension of the Shadow King was not kind to the remnants of a good person left in Gene. So, I want to be a little kinder to Gene.
Cutting the idea of him using Laurance I think it happened exactly once, and the context of it changes the scene from being outright r-pe into a dub-con territory. My previous characterization was dangerously close to the territory of "abuse victim becomes abuser", which I never want people to take from my work. I think that whole thing happened partially out of Gene's control and was really one of the moments that made him doubt what he was doing. These doubts are really too little too late though.
The degrading of Gene's relationship isn't entirely his fault either. While he still clearly loves Sasha and Zenix, the Shadow King calls on him more and more, pulling him away from them. And when the Shadow King breaks Zenix it only gets worse. Gene and Zenix are pitted against each other because the Shadow King realized they were both having silly little thoughts about free will and would turn against him. This polycule was never going to last because if the three of them got along and were normal and without the Shadow Kings influence for like two days they would have started a rebellion before Laurance ever even entered the Nether.
I think Gene struggles to show affection while around others. If Sasha or Zenix flirts with him around other shadow knights, he gets really tense and uneasy about it. But the minute they're alone it's endless kisses and apologies and reassurances. Despite having a skewed understanding of love, Gene is very good at showing it. Gene feels like someone who loves in an overwhelming sense, you feel like you're drowning in his love, for better or for worse.
Gene is not going to get redeemed in my rewrite. But he will be humanized. People will try to call him a violent thoughtless monster, and Sasha will gladly assure them that he is a violent calculated monster with thoughts and emotions that's being tormented by the voices of the departed. Gene will never be seen as a hero by his family, but he will likely never know if he has a family to begin with. Gene is a character who deserves better, but has lost every chance at it he possibly could have had.

🌸 If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not! Let's get to know the person behind the blog. 🌸
No pressure to reply
Sweet! Thanks for the ask and um three random facts about myself hmm.
1. I have actually met Graham McTravish at a convention as well as The hobbits from the lord of the rings and a few other LoTR and Hobbit celebrities as well! But definitely Dwalin and the hobbits are the most most famous. I was fairly young around twelve or thirteen when I met Dealing and Last year was when I met the Hobbit crew. All amazing all wonderful. Would love to see them again if not new members in future conversations.
2. I am actually not really good nor a big fan of reading. I know strange because I love writing and this blog is dedicated to writing but I just struggle with actually reading. I believe I have aphantasia which makes me unable to "picture" things in my head. So reading is really just words on paper to me. A big part of reading is the picturing of events but nope, can't do it. Also reading in school has taken the fun out of it for me (which is a sentiment shared by a lot of people). However I would like to get back into reading and find some enjoyment in it because I do think its a relaxing and healthy way to cope! I do collect books and that's not to say I don't have favorite stories. I love Arthas: Rise of the Lich King" by Christine Golden. ✨📚
3. This one isn't really a fun fact but I don't mind sharing because it is a part of my life. Speaking of coping I have felt with mild to severe depression for a good portion of my life. I am always trying to get better and think more positively and this blog as well as other factors (relationships and activities) of my life have helped me! It isn't easy but I do try and one of my many coping mechanisms has been plush animals. Like a looooot of plush animals. As long as my depression reins i don't think my plush friends will leave. Currently sleep with like ten and they are all my comfort after a long day! Lil guys are just my kinda jam and they sit on my bed and give me so much joy. Ill probably be eighty and still want to go to build a bear and get a new fella if I want to.
So yeah some facts about me!
:3 and I wish whoever reads this a very big thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you have a great day.

A plan to achieve Blizzard's stated goal of building a cinematic universe for Warcraft, because starting from the First War didn't work:
Warcraft: Lich King
Follows the plot of WCIII+The Frozen Throne, primarily focused on the rise of the scourge and the fall of Arthas. Would feature Mal'Ganis as the primary antagonist, as well as Jaina clashing with orcs. The Culling of Stratholme would be the dramatic peak of the story and the climax would stick on Arthas through the invasion of Quel'thalas and the movie would end on Arthas raising Sylvanas as The Banshee Queen.
Warcraft: Burning Legion
Sets itself up as a prequel to the first movie right out of the gate, but would mostly only portray events from the Draenor side. Would largely follow Gul'dan and Ner'Zhul through their dealings with demons and the resultant consequences. Would feature elements from the WC1, WC2: Beyond the Dark Portal, and Burning Crusade. Would end with Ner'Zhul being enslaved by Kiljaedeen and made into the first Lich King, imprisoned into The Frozen Throne. Would feature moments from the real movie such as the opening of the dark portal and the blood of mannoroth, but largely glossing over the wars fought on Azeroth, except maybe covering their consequences such as the internment camps.
Warcraft: Betrayer
Would pick up immediately where Lich King leaves off, showing the devastation of high elven civilisation and the torment of Sylvanas. Kel'Thuzad betrays his home and summons Archimonde, the primary antagonist of this Film. Immediately the Night Elves begin moving against him, step by step we see flashbacks to the first time Archimonde invaded, The War of the Ancients, from the perspective of Illidan. We are experiencing his memories as Tyrande gets closer to his prison. There would be scenes inspired by Legion, DotA, Burning Crusade and Warlords of Draenor. We would see Illidan's Metamorphosis and the entire Betrayer plotline. The Battle For Mount Hyjal would be the climax, and there would be an epilogue showing the aftermath: the corruption of the blood elves, the new alliance, etc.
World of Warcraft
Our Endgame. Would start on a completely new character: a forsaken player insert, just having been awoken in Tarren Mill. Would show a meteoric rise through the ranks until the character is regularly interacting with famous characters. We would focus on Sylvanas, showing her radicalisation and fall into ethnonationalism throughout forsaken and wotlk storylines, eventually culminating in the Battle of the Wrathgate. The player character would start to oppose Sylvanas before that point and then we would cover some of the joint efforts to stop sylvanas during and after wotlk. The movie would end on a cliffhanger for a potential spinoff movie: Deathwing

Imogen was really like, “Get my horsie killed? The thing that turned Arthas into the Lich King??”
(Yes. In the seminal 2009 Warcraft novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, it was revealed that Arthas had a horsie named Invincible that he loved very dearly. Invincible got seriously injured when they were out riding one day but Arthas didn’t have enough paladin levels to heal him so he had to put Invincible down himself. A Seed of Doubt™ was then planted in Arthas’ faith — both in the Light and in himself — that later ripened into his manipulation by the forces of Evil.
Anyway, take care of your horsies, people.)

Hiiii, uhm...I just finished no sway over the damned and I adore the fic, it gives a better perspective to the dk legion campaign and its just refreshing
When I saw that post about you actually planning to continue it I literally screeched of joy, because I really love the fic. Its also the reason why I ended up pairing up Thoras and Darion...it simply calls to me
Could you share some ideas about the possible sequel? Some romantic hc for the couple? Thank you!
Hello! Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it!
Back when I was initially working on and plotting No Sway, I ended up writing a little blurb about what I imagined for the sequel:
Better Creatures Could Love You  Between proving his love and overcoming the trials set in his path by overprotective lieutenants, Thoras Trollbane finds growing accustomed to life in the future complicated by the Legion’s invasion; being magically bound to his meddling co-workers; and the impending consequences of the Horsemen’s rise. Will the Ebon Blade ever trust him with their Highlord’s heart? Will the Lich King’s plans put Acherus on the wrong side of a renewed crusade against the Scourge? Will Alexandros Mograine’s ghost ever stop ruining people’s lives? All Thoras knows is that he’s a man out-of-time, and out of his mind for Darion Mograine.
With the main points that I'd decided upon having more Thoras POV and focused on the actual development of their serious relationship, and what at the time were my ideas for post-Legion consequences of the Ebon Blade's actions in Legion. Of course. Then BFA and SL and now DF have all come out, and those consequences never materialized beyond some incredibly disappointing missed opportunities in SL.
My general romantic headcanons for them, at the start of their relationship, are that they kind of go at it backwards: they get into personal trust and physical intimacy a long time before they're really gotten themselves fully together romantically. Thoras catches feelings first and is the one to make the overtures that advance their relationship to that point, but Darion is going though so much nonsense both due to circumstances and also due to his various issues and history that it takes them time to get anywhere serious. Thoras understands and is okay with this, but at the same time he's now put in a serious bid for a real relationship with Darion and Darion's friends/staff/advisors/lieutenants/all-of-the-above are definitely going to hassle him about it. Especially since, in the continuity of No Sway at least, the relationship that Darion considers his last """"serious""" relationship was with Arthas during his Hot Scourge Summer era (and i want to work in flashbacks to scourge Darion, because he's my most horrid little guy) which ended, obviously, with Arthas betraying Darion to Light's Hope (2) and Darion responding to this by forging Shadowmourne and cutting Arthas' head off.
And now as Fourth Horseman he's psychically connected to the shade of his ex-boyfriend.
Also everyone is very mad about the Ebon Blade attacking Light's Hope (3) again.
Also Alexandros' ghost continues to cause problems, because I was mortally fucking offended by the way the Legion Corrupted Ashbringer skin questline went and am going to fix that.
So really a less-than-ideal time to be getting romanced, but also perhaps the last opportunity they'll ever have!

you probably don't even play wow you dumb bitch. you probably just want to jump on henry cavill's dick
*reads aloud* you probably don't even play wow you dumb bitch. you probably just want to...
Okay, firstly, I'm on the asexual spectrum. I don't want to jump on anyone's dick
Secondly:
Tumblr media
Really? (not counting the War of the Ancients and Wolf Heart books I have on my kindle)
Tumblr media
Really? (I was going to put it in my room, but my room mate insisted on having it in the living room)
Tumblr media
Really? (Bal'a dash, malanore)
Tumblr media
Really? (Don't ask me why she's not wearing a chest plate, I don't know, she is in game. Also, I know none of them are max level. I'm an unrepentant altaholic and a chronic restarter)
I ask again. Really?
Rise of the Lich King is on my TBR list and I think Henry Cavill would be perfect as Arthas Menethil and the Lich King. He's very well known for liking the game and is a giant lore nerd. I think he would bring something special to the character, especially if they did something with ICC and the ending where Arthas is defeated and talking to the specter of his father (that he killed). Also, the purging of Strathholme. The creation of the Death Knights. The killing of Ranger General Sylvannas Windrunner and the sacking of Silvermoon City.
So.
Really?

Pandora by Edda Hayes & 2WEI is my Lich King!Jaina theme song.
“Jaina!” Arthas cries, praying she’ll somehow hear.
He’s fought his way to her feet, tearing through the gruesome walking corpses of man and beast alike. Faces of people he could have seen in the petition chamber, or in the market, or anywhere in the country. His people, now nothing more than moving meat.
She’s hovering with icy winds, tattered robes whipping around her legs and that damned sword held in one hand, and her face…
Frost is dusted across her already pale skin, and she looks younger even than usual, in spite of her white hair. Her eyes glow, but it has none of her usual arcane tint to it. There’s no trace of emotion on her face, just as there hadn’t been when she’d decimated the forward troops, nor when she raised them into her, her service.
“Arthas!” Uther, loyal Uther, cries from the front line, but he’ll never reach them. It’s a miracle Arthas had managed to break the line, Jaina’s keen mind and apparent disregard of her troops survival (if it can be called that), making her position a near-impregnable fortress. He remembers playing chess with her, the mischievous smile on her face as she, once again, trounced him.
Once again put his king in check.
She’s not even looking at him now, regarding the Lordaeronian army clashing with her own like none of it really matters, like she doesn’t know some of these soldiers by name. Like she doesn’t know Arthas.
“Jaina, please. Let me help you!”
“Oh,” Jaina says, mildly. She finally regards him, and a gentle, painfully familiar smile blooms on her face. She reaches for him and he goes readily. She cups his cheek. Light, she’s cold, it’s so fucking cold. “You just have.”
A sharp sting makes it hard to breathe, it feels like he’s underwater, his lungs protesting against the sudden lack of air. Unwittingly, he staggers back, coughing. The noise of the fighting around them, Uther’s anguished bellow, it all grows distant. He drops to his knees, plate armor feeling impossibly heavy. He touches his neck, mind moving sluggishly, and he’s surprised when his gauntlet comes back red.
The last thing he sees is her face, before everything goes black.
* * *
The prince falls, but his body rises anew. Frost spreading like spiderweb from the icicle wound in his neck turns him a sickly blue, face unmoving – frozen. He hefts his warhammer, and turns against the forces of the living, and the Light.
The Lich King has won her Champion.

She knew she was deft in the magical arts. She was intelligent and focused, and had learned much in the short time she had already been here. Surely Antonidas would not take on an apprentice as a charity case. With no sense of the false pride her father had warned her so judiciously about, she understood she had the potential to become a powerful mage. She wanted to succeed on her own merit, not be advanced because an elven prince enjoyed her company.

📕 — favorite book/series?
My favourite book of all time is the Warcraft book "Arthas: Rise of the Lich King". The Lich King is my favourite character ever in any franchise and so a whole novel about Arthas and him merging with the Lich King 'n stuff was SOOO GOOOOOD. It showed us a glimpse into Arthas's history and how things happened, and it was SO EMOTIONAL. I love it and wanna cry.
Favourite series however... I'm a huge Darren Shan fan. At least I used to be. I don't follow authors anymore because my ADHD doesn't let me read well, so I don't bother with anything book wise. Anyway. He wrote two series in the 00s; The Saga and Demonata. Both are immensely great. The first is about vampires, the second about werewolves and demons. I love them and highly recommend both if you're into fantasy.
Shout out to the "Lonely Werewolf Girl" book. I read half and loved it before ADHD really nuked me.
