🎁What is something they keep like: a souvenir, a keepsake, or a family heirloom; that means a lot to them? Why is it so important to them?
Arsay's ribbon is the closest thing she has to a family heirloom. It was originally just a bolt of fabric and a pendant -sent over along with a letter- from Kugane by her parents. She treasured it as a child, but as she grew older she wanted nothing more to do with anything that reminded her of her parents... until the morning she left for Limsa Lominsa.
Emrara had muttered out a few words as the familiar fabric- now arranged into a ribbon with feathers and charms- was presented to her. Something about keeping the sun out of her eyes. In an instant all pain the textile brought up was washed away. When Arsay wears the ribbon she is reminded the parent that did love her despite the circumstances that brought them together. It's her most treasured gift.
#arsay nun#arsay nun lore#emrara emra#please ignroe how weird the poes on the second image was i was fighting with the models and the ribbon and had to stop with what i had#i should really make the ribbon into a prop or something cause this keeps happening

Arsay's chocobo is named Fish!
In a some semitic / proto-semitic / Phoenician language "Nun" (arsay's last name) means fish!
they are a very good chocobo but they hate taking baths!!
I've seen a couple of people share their WoL's chocobo's names so far, and they're all ready cute, so I'm gonna take advantage of my platform to ask:
What's your WoL's chocobo's name?
I'll start: mine is Edwin! Because he kinda looks like an Edwin.
Edited to Add (Because I didn't even think about this last night, lol): I have two alts that have unlocked chocobos! One of the alts is Patia Por'co from Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, so I named her chocobo Avalir after the flying city from that same series. The other alt is based on one of my D&D characters, and his chocobo is named Phalanges after one of the party's two horses (he is solely focused on eating fingers).

MiqoMarch Day 23 - Midnight
With their intended voyage into the void only a few days out, Arsay thought it the upmost importance that she steal her partner away to Kugane, that they might share one more fond memory together should things not turn out the way they plan in the thirteenth. It was as they crossed the very same bridge the miqo'te had once sat on together two years prior when Arsay gifted Y'shtola with a bracelet matching that of her own. A token of endearment which, Arsay confessed, she would have given to her fellow scion back then, had nerves not gotten the best of her. While their relationship has undoubtedly changed since the initial purchase of the jewellery, the sentiment remained the same. Y'shtola was someone who Arsay loved dearly and she will forever be grateful to have the seeker's life intertwined with her own. No matter where their free spirits took them, they would always hold each other in their hearts. A promise Y'shtola was more than willing to keep. She slipped the the string of beads around her wrist without a second thought. They were never to come off, not even when the two decided to delay their return to Radz-at-Han in favour of a private bath at the dead of night.

Perhaps not the way Y'mhitra hoped to have learned her sister and her friend were something much more than fellow scions; however, she is still nonetheless happy for them.

long so putting it under a read more!
When I was coming up with Arsay's name I knew wanted something Semitic in nature and [slight shb/edw spoilers] guessing the wol had a connection to those dudes with Greek names I kept seeing on my tl, I shifted to proto-semetic names. I knew final fantasy already co-ops a lot of mythology names so I wanted to as well lol. I revisited a Wikipedia rabbit hole into Canaanite mythology (Ba'al cycle specifically) to see if I could find a female figure thats related to water for theming reasons (wanted to start in limsa). I saw the name Arsay in the hyperlinks, and since it lined up with the miqo'te naming conventions (1-2 syllables) I clicked on that one first. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsay] The article description can be summed up as "we dont know anything about this lady. She is either a goddess of groundwater or the underworld or maybe both". I thought that was cool so I went with it. [more shb ending spoilers] very funny considering the implied past with the guy named Hades. It ended out working really well cause now I got the triple A squad of Alphinaud, Alisaie, and Arsay.
The last name Nun is the Hebrew letter Nūn נ, but obviously the game wouldnt let me put in that accent mark.
I went with it based on how its used in Dreidel [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreidel] - the game with the spinning top and chocolate coins we play at Chanukah. The letters on a Dreidel have dual meanings, nun being one of four letters used. The first meaning is the rule it represents: Nun is taken from the yiddish "nisht", meaning "not" or "nothing". If you role it you do nothing, you gain nothing, you loose nothing. It has protentional if I was gonna make her really edgy (didn't happen). The second more important meaning is that each letter on a dreidel can be used as an acronym for the phrase "Nes Gadól Hayá SHam". "Nes" (נֵס) is hebrew for miracle. So for a warrior of light who is constantly performing miraculous feats of heroism, I thought it would be fitting!
There is though also stuff connected to the actual letter itself which is fun! It reps the number 50 (multiple of my lucky number 25, also the arabic nun is the 25th letter in their alphabet), it's connected to the death tarot card (death -> underworld 👀 ), there is a whole hypothesis about how the letter used to represent eels or fish (more water themes!! also why her chocobo is named fish). Finally, as a funny coincidence [shb spoilers] Nun is the 14th letter of the hebrew alphabet. I did not know about the organization 14 stuff when I chose that letter. I literally just made choices that happens to line up well with what the game has given me and I find that so funny
Anyways thank you for reading Arsay Nun name info dump
WoL QotD: What made you choose your WoL's name? Does it have any important meaning or did it just sound nice?
Follow up: Is it lore accurate? If it isn't, why not?

You know how instead of walking around and finding their people, cats will sometimes hang out in a room and yowl until someone comes to them?
It was short lived, but Arsay absolutely had a stage of her life when she did exactly that >w<

I would love to see the breakdown of Arsay’s timeline through the expansions!!!
WEEEEELLLL if you insist... My basic timeline break down is as follows: Keep in mind a few things are still kinda in flux, and if I ever contradict myself in the future literally don't worry about it
1.0 -> Calamity 6 months End point in the 4th umbral moon lining up with what is now the rising event (calamity memorial). Now that I’ve switched up arsay’s birthday, she turns 22 during the 1.0 campaign.
Calamity -> ARR 5 Years Arsay is stuck in the lifestream with the mother crystal for that 5 year period. Her memories of 1.0 and everyone's memories of her are largely erased. Arsay wakes up on a boat to Limsa Lominsa believing it is still her first voyage to Eorzea.
ARR->HVW ~6 months The base story including job quests take 3 months in total. The next three months are dedicated to the patches: Primal Trial series -> Coils of Bahamut -> 2.1. ~3 weeks Crystal Tower Raids, LoTA -> Syrcus Tower ~1 month 2.2-2.3 -> Crystal Tower Raid WoD ~2 weeks 2.4->2.55 ~3 weeks
HVW->STB ~4 months Main story starts a day or two after 2.55 and takes ~1 month total Patches take ~3 Months: 3.1->3.2->Void Arc ~1 month ->Arsay gets really into pvp and does nothing but frontlines and CC for a week -> 3.3->Alexander Raids->3.4 ~3 weeks Warring Triad->3.5->3.56 ~1 month
STB->SHB ~6 months Main story picks up a week after 3.56 and takes ~3 months time. (The first trip to Kugane takes 3 weeks off screen, after that travel time is reduced to a few days to a week using the East Aldenard Trading company boats (it would make sense that lolorito has better boat tech imo)) Next 3 month period is all the patches: Ivalice raids->Omega raids->4.1-4.2 ~1 month Eureka exploration->4.3->4 lords ~1.5 months 4.4->4.56 ~2 weeks
I know the ARR to Shadowbringers lead up is a mad dash but if it happened any slower, I don't believe Arsay would have be the character she is by that point. It is incredibly vital that she has almost 0 down time for herself. Her days and nights are PACKED full by choice. Job Quests, Hildebrand stuff,PvP, Hunts all get squeezed in throughout.
SHB->EDW ~8 months Main story picks up a few days after 4.56 and takes only 1.5 months to complete. Its a non stop emotional roller coaster for Arsay to be completely fine and normal about the whole time. Patches take 6.5 months, notably there is more downtime between patches: Chill relaxing after 5.0->Eden I->5.1->Neir raid I ->5.2-> role quest/shadowkeeper->Eden II-> 5.3 ->chill relaxing/recovery time for scions->Eden III->Neir raids II & III->Werlyt->Bozjia->5.4-5.55
EDW->DWT ~1 year (time spent in Elpis is not counted) ->Main story up to credit roll ~1 month ->Recovery time for injuries sustained in Ultima Thul ~4 months ->After credits - Scions Disband, everyone goes their separate ways - 1 day 🙃 ->Rest of the roll quests now that Arsay can mostly fight again(she can't cast mudras😞 ) ~1 month (casting>healing>tanking>aiming>bonus all role cap off) -> 1 month of nothing to do, Arsay still can't cast mudras, character development dictates she can no longer repress every bad emotion she feels, she has no proper coping mechanisms and quickly spirals into a mental breakdown over feeling like she's worthless and that no one will need her anymore now that the world isnt ending constantly and that she's worried without the scions being the scions everyone she cares about will slowly forget her and she'll be all alone again. Y'shtola and G'raha manage to get Arsay talking after a bit of self destructive lashing out. Things are sorta resolved?? Y'shtola and G'raha reassure her of a lot, and do their best to get it in her little kittycat head that she's not a burden on them even when she's sad. Not an automatic fix but Arsay does make the commitment to better her mental health and to work on her self image issues and communication skills! It'll be a process for her. ->5 days round trip to her home island in the southern seas to visit her Aunt and catch up ->6.1 starts when Arsay gets back from that ->Endwalker patch content takes up the final 5 months of that year period. Things are mostly interspersed with how they are released except for pandae which happens all in one go for Arsay between 6.3 and 6.4. Arsay has done all the variant dungeons, Tataru's grand endeavours, completed Island Sanctuary, and Myths of the Realm. ->The gap between 6.55 and 7.0 will probably only be about a week? Maybe 2? It depends how much it seems like the early arrivals to Tural have been there compared to Arsay and her crew.
That's my timeline! Thank you for asking and reading 🙇 hopefully that all made sense haha ^^
Have a picture of them for the road <3

Hello!! 🍑 and 🌻 for the oc ask about your beautiful cat Arsay [:
Question list - Thanks for asking!!
🌻Favorite flower?
She doesn't really have one in particular... Arsay is the type to think that flowers should be appreciated as an assortment rather than on their own. She's quite fond of wildflower patches. She like how they grow wherever they want and sprinkle the grass with pops of colour.
🍑How did they react to having their "first time?" And was their partner understanding if they were nervous?
Putting this under a cut because spicy content 🔞
Arsay is nothing if not a go-getter!! The fact she and V'kebbe both had way too much to drink absolutely eased the potential awkwardness. The two had a lot of fun that night (even though Arsay absolutely fumbled a few times haha). As it went on it became clearer to V'kebbe that this was more than just fooling around for Arsay. Not wanting to pursue that kind of relationship, V'kebe made it clear that she would not be continuing her mentorship come morning.

so ive basically determined that Arsay actually has just been doing advanced arcane geometry magic this whole time btw
she is still like doing on the fly elemental conversion when she's doing her mudras but if someone where to figure out the back end of how she's doing it, it would basically just be arcane geometry.
Tbh it wouldn't surprise me that Arsay maybe absorbed more from Emrara's old codexs than she thought she did.
The thing is, I think she's still pretty bad at thinking about arcane geometry in a purely mathematical way. For Arsay its something very vibes based... maybe that's how it ties into hr echo. If you think of Math as a language of its own, her echo is maybe helping her translate it into something she understands.
#arsay nun#arsay nun lore#arsay actually being insanely good at creation and elemental magic has always been the underlying thing here tbh#she's amazing with her daggers and knives too of course

how about Gaius van Bellhorns!
Arsay... does not like him. She respects that he's trying to be better and make amends for what he's done, and she does believe people can change. But she does not want to be around him for that. He can figure himself out. I think she holds a lot of resentment specifically after learning that he adopted all those kids and then just... left them in the Empire. Understandably, she has a lot of baggage when it comes to parents choosing to leave their children behind. So uh, she kinda was seeing red for the entirety of the wyrlet story. Thankfully Arsay is a better person than I am and held her tongue through most of it. She felt worse for the pilots than Gaius. She hopes he carries the guilt of his actions for the rest of his waking days.

thinking about Arsay backstory once again:
I think the way she meets the merchant is that him and his crew docked on the wrong side of the island, wandered too far into the forest thinking the village would be just up ahead, and came face to face with some large dangerous creature.Things look dire but before anything terrible can happen, in swoops Arsay from the canopy. She strikes the creature down and drives a blade at the exact point between the skull and the neck to incapacitate it. She leads the merchant out of forest, and sails with them around to the right side of the island. The whole time the merchant is not thinking about how thankful he is to still be alive but how useful this semi-feral and out of place miqo'te could be to his business operations.
#Arsay Nun#Arsay Nun Lore#i should come up with a name for the merchant but i havent yet#i do have a character model for him in the new benchmark

sending the same NPC meme ask to multiple people is fine right??
so Krile and Tataru!
As Tataru and Arsay met first, I'll start with them :)
They are really great friends! Besties that would hang out more if they weren't both always so busy! In the beginning, they really didn't talk much, well, Arsay didn't talk much, Tataru sure did. But that's Tataru! Always a friendly face and ready to chat with whoever is showing up at the waking sands. Arsay was not quite sure how to proceed with that kind of friendly attitude pointed towards her until well into the ARR patches where she finally started to open up to others. Tataru trying to become an arcanist was the real start of their friendship. Arsay thinks the world of Tataru. She is always impressed by all the things Tataru can do and often goes to her for help with crafting stuff. A lot of the signature outfits I have given Arsay are crafted or modified by Tataru, and Arsay loves every piece she is gifted! Tataru always finds a way to make use of Arsay, which would maybe piss off some other WOLs but not Arsay! She loves to be useful :) If Tataru needs her to model some clothes, advertise her business, blackmail some poor sod, create an island paradise, hangout in a volcano, Arsay will do it no questions asked! Anything for a friend !
As for Krile, well they get along super well, and are definitely friends, but I'd still say theres a bit of a gap in their relationship. They for sure bonded over the events in Eureka (which im still not done yet but I am keeping in to the 'canon' timeline of it occurring between stormblood and shadowbringers) but I think there's still a lot they need to learn about each other before they can get really, really close. That doesnt mean they don't care about each other though! They absolutely do!! Also, Arsay loves hearing embarrassing stories about G'raha and the twins from Krile over tea ! Tea is something they do often together now that Arsay's been living in the Annex. Her, Krile, and Shtola convene for a quick tea break in the afternoon before going about the rest of their days. I also think Krile was getting just a tad bit annoyed that Arsay kept distracting G'raha from his work (aka they kept fucking in his little work area), but she was far too polite to bring it up to either of them.
#arsay Nun#Arsay Nun lore#thank you!#I realized I havent been thanking people for sending asks im sorry!!!! thank you to every previous question asker#hoping Dawntrail gives Krile and Arsay some more bonding experiences they def need it

Arsay's opinion on Hythlodaeus?
Arsay considers hylthodaeus to be a really kind and well meaning individual. His sunny disposition and easy going nature is very influential on her. Whenever he showed up, Arsay couldn't help but feel relaxed around him. She never got a chance to ask him about her Azem, but Arsay believes if someone like Hyth could be friends with them, surely the person of which her aether originates from couldn't be that bad.
She also really enjoys how Hyth can get under Emet's skin so easily, and she quickly started taking notes.

Shout out to this specific illustration of Izutsumi's claws Ryoko Kui's Daydream Hour 3 for being the closest representation to how I picture Arsay's claws. Granted Arsay's are longer, but I've always been into the idea of them being retractable to a degree. Arsay trims them often but they also grow pretty fast!
#Arsay Nun#arsay nun lore#I know there was a post about miqote claw anatomy floating around a bit ago and I feel like this kinda lined up with one of the suggestions#though iirc that one was illustrated to be more aligned with cat skeletal structure in mind#and I think keeping the human hand structure is a little more appealing#its a fantasy world so i think that flexibility is fine#wild ramblings

idle thought: when did Arsay first find out about huntspeak? About it being an old traditional miqo'te thing etc? (also how does she feel about the whole idea of miqo'te tradition stuff just generally, is it something she's curious about, something she wishes she'd learned about growing up, or is she largely indifferent about the whole being miqo'te-ness, her place in the whole keeper-seeker dichotomy and all that?)
Oh great question! Well, she sure as hell did not learn it from Emrara. Despite traveling with Arsay's parents for X number of years, Emrara never really picked up that much knowledge about Miqo'te tribe culture and customs. I think Arsay would have first heard traditional Miqo'te huntspeak during her first trip to the Forgotten Springs while she searched for the former company of hero's member U'odh Nunh. Most likely she overheard some of the huntresses chattering to each other about a pack of sand worms roaming too close to camp. She was definitely curious but felt strange asking about it directly, so she kept to herself and carried on her task of earning a favour for the U tribe Nuhn.
This is a common trend for Arsay and learning about the culture. She's so curious, she wants to know so much, but its difficult for her to broach the topic. Not only does she not even know what she doesn't know, there's also lot of hesitancy to "outting" herself as an ignorant miqo'te. Like, every Miqo'te she interacts with treats her like a normal person, they assume she has a similar experience, base knowledge, etc. She doesn't want to risk breaking that illusion, she doesn't want to be seen as an outsider instead of a peer. So she doesn't question. She nods when people assume she's from the shroud, because I guess technically she is?? on her mom's side? She doesn't want to give them an opening to scrutinize or reject her for being different. She had enough of that growing up. Arsay loves being a Miqo'te. She loves her fluffy tail, her sharp teeth, being able to see so well in the dark, how easy it is for her to climb trees, hear from such long distances away. But she's never fully felt like a miqo'te. She doesn't feel tethered to Azyma or Menphina. Despite learning her father was from the U tribe, she doesn't consider them family. She wanders through the black shroud a stranger, wondering if she'll ever into another keeper with the same family name as her. She doesn't really know if she needs miqo'te tradition in her life, but she wonders if knowing something might make her feel a little more whole. That's why it made such an impact to befriend G'raha when she did. When he talked about his difficulties growing up away from his tribe, being bullied for his heterochromia (something that is generally seen auspicious in seeker culture actually!), it made Arsay feel safe enough to reveal she grew up outside of a traditional Miqo'te clan. They bonded over how little they knew about themselves. Even when Arsay asked a dumb question, he explained what he could without making her feel bad. This is when she probably would have asked him about huntspeak as well. A great lead up to G'raha teaching Arsay how to shoot a bow and arrow the way he was taught before being sent away.
And a similar connection point happened again when Arsay found out Y'shtola also grew up isolated from her tribe. Granted Y'shtola still knew a hell of a lot more than Arsay ever could, but it was something. A bit of security that Arsay didn't have to save face all the time
Now a days, Arsay's learned quite a lot from both her seeker partners and it's made her really happy! She's much more comfortable being a miqo'te living outside of tradition, especially since she feels like she's made her own tribe that can have it's own customs (even if some are technically south seas lalafel).
#Arsay Nun#Arsay Nun lore#sorry for rambling I do think about this kinda thing for her though#again its always so nice to me that she made a family with miqote who are also disconnected from tradition in a sense#but I think shtola and raha share their tribe culture with her openly#and i do think zhloe taught her some basic stuff on keeper traditions after they got really close with custom deliveries#zhloe at least taught arsay how important menphina was#but zhloe also reads as someone who grew up in a mixed race settlement and not so much the shroud so im not sure she even knows that much
