So we all know Canary Jimmy, but what about Albatross Jimmy? Hear me out on this:

Okay, so firstly, Jimmy has a very big personality. He is loud, highly interactive with those around him, and is impossible to ignore in any situation. Plus he's usually depicted as one of the tallest members of the Life Series. Is that not fitting for the bird with the biggest wingspan on earth? (On top of that, albatrosses are seabirds, which is definitely helpful in bridging some gaps with the Codfather.)

The Canary Curse in of itself is based on the concept of Jimmy's death foretelling the tragedies that are about to occur for everyone else, but what if Jimmy's death is what *brings* the curse? I was thinking about Rime of the Ancient Mariner again, and the albatross there is supposed to be an omen of good luck until the titular Mariner shoots it down with his crossbow. After a while of still waters and horrendous thirst, every sailor on that ship drops dead except for the Mariner, who is bound to the albatross, cruelly spared only by Life-In-Death (Watcher symbolism anyone?).

I know there's a headcanon stating that Skizz is the cause of the Boogeyman Curse (I don't know who created this headcanon, so please tell me if you know), and Albatross Jimmy only strengthens that: Skizz is the Mariner.

Skizz causes Jimmy's final death in Third Life with a bow of all things. He effectively “shoots him out of the sky." And not only did the chaos increase in Third Life immediately after, but every season Skizz has been present for since has involved the Boogeyman Curse in some way.

The only series Skizz was not in was Double Life, where there was no Boogeyman Curse. How would the curse continue if there is no Mariner to accompany the Albatross? Easy answer: Tango took on the role of the Mariner for Double Life, as the cause of Jimmy's first death via Dare To Flare all way back in Third Life. Since this death was not as permanent as the death that Skizz caused, the intensity of the curse was not near as strong, and resulted only in the Ranchers being soulbound (which became a very wholesome, comforting thing for them rather than staying a curse).

Since the curse is primarily based in the events of Third Life, Jimmy dying first may not continue to be a requirement for it as the seasons go on (as evidenced in SL and RL), but what it does require is 200 final deaths total before the curse can end.

Including Real Life, there have been 89 final deaths across the whole of the Life Series, including all six wins assuming that the winners died after each season anyway for the series to continue. Therefore, also assuming an average of 17 players for every subsequent season, there would need to be seven more seasons of the series to accumulate 200 final deaths, in which Skizz would be the final winner.

Okay, I’m curious. So many Team Rancher fans I’ve encountered are also involved in STEM, so I’m doing a poll to see if it’s a common thing. (Special thanks to @basil-the-bulbasaur for the idea!)

For the purpose of this poll, involved in STEM can mean any of these:

-have/had a career in STEM

-studying a STEM field in University

-intend on studying STEM or having a STEM career in the future

If there’s enough STEM people here, I may do a follow up poll later to see if we’ve got common focuses (for example, I myself am a geologist and I’ve met more than one geologist in this fandom.)

Explanations below

Team JEPTS: Deepfrost Court/PET Postal plus the Valley Girls (can also be viewed as Ranchers plus Etho, Pearl, and Scar). This one’s pretty self indulgent since it’s all my personal faves, but I think the dynamic would be incredible. Plus, Scar and Pearl deserve to have as many teammates as they want after the tragedies that were their own wins in previous series. Can we protect Jimmy from the bad luck this time?

They’re doing Their Best: I’ve wanted Skizz and Lizzie to team for a while, and adding Mumbo to the mix makes the sad wet cats of the server.

Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss: BigB is gaslight, Joel is gatekeep, and Gem is girlboss. Gem and Joel alone are two of the most powerful fighters on the server, and adding BigB’s charisma would make the whole team op.

Treebark Symmetry: please False, please False, please False. I need FalseSymmetry in the Life Series, and of course it would be amazing if she teamed with the theater kids. Pleaseeeeeeeee

Cracked: Impulse, Cleo, and Grian are just really really good at the game. As much as I’d want Tango to win, I’m predicting Impulse as the overall winner this coming season.

It would be so funny: no explanation. Scott + Bdubs. Forces that be, make it happen please.

OVER SEVEN HOURS?!?!

Definitely cliche, but I’ve been watching Hermitcraft since S6 through Grian, and I knew Tango existed then, but I really first noticed him via the DO2 opening day vod. YouTube recommended it to me the day he posted it, and I was stressed from college, so I watched it to take my mind off things.

Since then, I haven’t missed a single vod, watched every S10 episode as it released, and I went back and watched every Life Series episode (multiple times), every Create Series episode, every S9 episode (in the span of three days too), every Among Us vod, the Plate Up vods, and am in the process of watching the S9 vods.

Tango really is my favorite content creator of all time, and I relate to him more than I have any other character. The whole concept of “very talented/smart individual who’s also oblivious and silly and makes weird noises and is a good friend while being an introvert” is something that deeply resonates with me, and I wish more people would give him the love and attention that he deserves.

sometimes i feel like tango is underrated. like i know he has a lot of fans but when people talk about hermitcraft its often grian mentioned first, or etho, or xisuma. all awesome creators obvi but it just blows my mind that i never hear ‘yeah tango is what got me into hermitcraft’

the man is a master builder and he can create unfathomable machines in mc and he is so charismatic and engaging. man can literally do anything. like is there anything he’s bad at?

anyway just thoughts. felt like tango needs an appreciation post. and im curious if any of you lovely mcyt fans out there actually did find hermitcraft via tango and/or if tango is your Favorite Hermit.

Yes can do! <3 Here’s a little bit about my art process for the Deepfrost art :)

So here’s a screenshot from the sketch. (It wasn’t completely done at the time, but it’s the only screenshot I still have of that part.)

I sketch in any color other than black so I can more easily see my lineart later, and red is often what I default to. I also had two-point perspective grid lines set up, but I didn’t really adhere to them. As you can see, DF’s face did undergo a little bit of editing before the lineart happened. I opted to go for a toothy grin rather than the open-mouthed smile he originally had here.

Speaking of lineart:

Regardless of what brush I use, I always make sure that my lineart connects neatly to itself for each part of every drawing (separate lineart layers for each component.) There’s no gaps anywhere, so it makes it to where I can easily use an inverse selection to put a base color layer directly beneath. My base layers are always in gray going from lighter in the background to darker in the foreground.

Next up was rendering the background:

This is- … this is definitely a “rest of the heckin’ owl” kinda thing XD. The buildings were in three layers with the windows drawn in vertical lines and then erased in horizontal lines.

Once the windows were all on there, I used alpha lock on the layer and then just randomly recolored windows based on reference photos of cities at night. Once the windows were done, I used some airbrushing for ambiance.

Next up was the base colors for the foreground:

Here, I was mainly focused on the outfit and ice detail. All of this was important to get the way I wanted pre-render, and absolutely nothing about lighting was considered here.

Afterwards was DF’s rendering:

I had two separate shadow layers and one light layer, keeping my light source and his three-dimensionality in mind the whole time. Here was where I also did lineart recoloring and cleanup.

And then all I had left was to render the ice, the rooftop, and add the snow! I don’t fully know how to explain this part either, but I primarily used a soft airbrush and a medium nozzle spray paint brush as well as an eraser in both of those settings as well.

So yeah! That’s the basics of my art process! I like to joke that when I draw, my brain lives in my hands so I don’t think too much about the process while drawing. I had a lot of fun with this and hope you liked seeing the process :D

So this ^^ happened on Tango’s stream today, and it’s directed towards Grian (he used one of G’s farms for a resource and understandably wanted to let him know that he used it),

But I honestly think it’s so funny and so fitting that he’s joining in the neck kisses bit now since the bit originated in his house (Deepfrost Citadel). He was right there for the start of the bit, so it just makes so much sense to me that he would do this, and I sooooo look forward to seeing Grian’s reaction.

10: What inspired/motivated you this year:

Definitely Tango in general! I got slammed with the Hyperfixation Hammer at the start of March, and he’s been living in my brain rent free ever since. CcTango is just so incredibly entertaining and I relate to him a lot as a person, and CTango is really fun and *also* someone I relate to but for different reasons.

As well as Tango, I’ve also been really inspired by other artists and writers in this fandom, and I am beyond happy to have befriended some of them! In particular, I’m really inspired by the Hels to Pay au by Aquaquadrant and Lunarcrown, and literally everything that @watcheraurora (hi Rora! :D) has written this year! Such incredible writers and artists who I’m sooo glad to have stumbled across! <333

But by far, my biggest inspiration/motivator this year has been every single person who has shown love and support for my work, especially you, Jam! All of your comments and asks and excited ramblings about FinFault only add fuel to the fire, and I am so so happy that you’re here! <333

25. Favorite work you’ve created this year:

My favorite is Finality’s Fault in its entirety, and I’m constantly spinning it around in my brain, but that’s a big project with multiple art works as well as the main fic, so I’m not counting it for this.

In terms of specific art pieces, it has to be the Deepfrost fanart for Rora’s Ice Walls au!

Past life wardens?? 👀

Past Life Wardens is what I'm currently calling an au of mine! Thus far, the plan is for it to be a collection of one-shots, but I'm not opposed to doing something multi-chapter if FinFault allows me the time/energy XD

(Writing snippet after the info)

The premise is that after being killed in the Life Series, all name-tagged wardens are reincarnated as warden-hybrid players on Hermicraft with the derivative code genetics of the player who named them. So the au centers around these three:

Rev (Rancher's Revenge) - she's the oldest and most level-headed of all of them. Her player data has her code derivative from Tango only, but he and Jimmy coparent and both utterly adore her. She spends most of her time on Hermitcraft with Tango since she's not one for world-hopping the way Jimmy is, and she helped out with parts of DO2. Like Tango, she's a fast learner with redstone, but what she really excels at is building. Although very quiet and reserved, Rev is incredibly chaotic and is often the ringleader of any antics the warden kids get up to. Her role model is her uncle Zed.

Dish (Etho's Dishwasher) - the second oldest of the warden kids, his code is derived from both Grian and Etho since one made the nametag and the other named the warden. Etho is a notoriously absent father, so Dish spends most of his time in Grian's social circle. He's skilled with an elytra, and Scar has taught him the art of the HoTGuY (and the art of the con). He loves watching the masters terraform and is beginning to learn the skill himself.

Goober - Etho's favorite. Goober is the youngest (and loudest) of the warden kids, but he's incredibly sweet and finds a lot of joy in gathering resources to give to other players for their builds. However, despite the kindness he shows most of the time, he is very much Rev's "gremlin little cousin," and he is eager to assist her and Dish with pranks (with Grian's motto of "prank hard, but clean up your messes after.") Etho is teaching him how to do redstone, which many players think is a bad idea. Do not let him near tnt.

Any future wardens in future Life Series seasons will be added to this au, and I will likely also feature my Team Rancher fan-kid Phoenix as Rev's younger sister. (I don't think I've talked about her before on here, but I'll likely talk about her more in a different post if people like this one.)

I've had this au for a few months now, and I am happy to keep writing or expand on it if people like it, so please lmk if you like this au idea! I really appreciate feedback on all of my works! :) <3

Now here's a snippet of the first one shot (currently unpublished) that I wrote for this:

Her darkness fades completely, a calm relief taking the place of the fear. It’s a new feeling too. All of these feelings are new. The room she’s in is small but open, and she can see all of it without needing to use any echolocation. There’s an entire wall of chests to her right, and the floor is made of packed mud with a rug depicting a shirtless player in the middle of it. She isn’t sure how she knows the words “chest” and “rug” and  “packed mud,” but she knows them all the same.  To her left is an expanse of cavern, empty save for a vague sense of intention, whatever that means. She can sense the other wardens of this world from where she sits, the sculk in all the spaces between emitting a faint aura of contentment. They like it here, wherever “here” is.  Other wardens? Or just wardens in general? She looks down at what she can see of herself. Her skin is the same dark greenish-navy it always was, but she has the hands of a player, the legs of a player, the torso of a player. Before now, she didn’t know what “warden” meant, nor did she comprehend that it was a term that applied to her. But now that she isn’t one, she understands that she used to be one.  The outfit she wears is not something she remembers putting on, but she likes it. It’s a knee-length black dress made of heavy wool, lined at the top and bottom hems with thick beige fur. The sleeves are longer than her arms, with matching fur at their hems too. A short beige and turquoise cloak rests on her shoulders overtop the dress, the part that covers her chest embroidered with decorative black ribs.  There is an object in her hand, and she brings it closer to her face to examine it, having been holding it without realizing the whole time. It’s a rectangle, perfectly sized to feel natural in her grasp, and the material it’s made of is indescribable by design.  “Communicator.” The term pops into her mind like a surprise gift.  She sees a series of words on it, ones she can read despite never having interacted with the concept of written language before: RanchersRevenge joined the game [joehillssays] howdy to a dish best served cold! [Xisuma] hello? [VintageBeef] that is not a name I recognize [Xisuma] me neither [Xisuma] new person, are you at spawn? [Xisuma] no one at spawn [Xisuma] where are you? [joehillssays] you might have to get their coords yourself if they don’t know how to use a comm  [Xisuma] the admin interface says they’re at Tango’s base Her attention lingers on that name. Tango. She knows that name.  “See? I’m not gonna hurt ya.” She doesn’t understand the language the player is speaking, but he sounds reassuring in his tone. He holds out a piece of steak. She takes it, pausing for a moment to inspect the meal before devouring it. “Well that must’ve been tasty.” He whisper-laughs below the sound threshold of the sculk sensors, reaching out to ruffle the turquoise fluff between her antlers. His touch is as warm as his flames. Soothing. Comforting. Ignoring her sense of instinct, she waddles closer to him, lightly bonking her forehead against his shoulder.  His expression melts with a squeak he fails to stifle. “Ah! Adorable with extra cute!” A sculk sensor chirps nearby, and he quickly scans their surroundings, shrinking down in alertness. “Now let’s skadoodle you up to the surface before we summon any of your friends.” He gently ties a nametag around her wrist. She can’t read it.

I deviated from the canon DL events just a little bit with this to make Tango more caring/parental towards Revenge in this au (rather than raging bc the game kept crashing irl while trying to bring a warden to the surface).

But yeah! Lmk if you want more of this au, and if so, I will very likely drop all of this one shot and write more (and draw some for it too) <3
