𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
                                                  chapter 10
Diana stirred uncomfortably in her bed. She had forgotten to close her curtains, and the sunlight was hitting her right in the face. She sat up in her bed and rubbed her eyes, when she suddenly froze. Did Eloa really come to her room last night? Or had she just dreamt it? She remembered the horrible dream she had had. It was one of those nights her mother came home drunk, and she dragged her by the hair into a little room only her and her mother knew existed, she was whimpering and her mother smiled cruelly, that`s when she noticed: she enjoyed it. She enjoyed beating her, starving her, locking her up. She tried to escape her mother`s grasp, but she knew she couldn´t make it. She threw her inside a poorly lit room, and tied her wrists to the walls, facing it, then ripped her shirt in half leaving her back exposed. Diana moved her head desperately trying to see what her mother was doing at her back, when the first lash impacted on her back. She arched her back and begged for her to stop, but her mother just laughed, telling her that she had ruined her life in every possible way.
Diana looked at her trembling hands remembering that day, and a chill travelled her body. She stared at herself in the mirror; she looked like she hadn’t slept all night (which was actually kind of true, really) and tears rolled down her face. She wiped them off and washed her face in the bathroom. The other three girls sat on the sofa watching TV, when Diana hurriedly walked to the kitchen and left with an apple. She locked herself up in her room and got her knifes, tossed the apple in the air and threw one. The knife impaled the apple and fell to the ground with a loud thud. She practiced with her knifes for the rest of the day, and at nightfall she was starving. She cleaned the cuts in her hands and picked the rests of the apple she had eaten long ago; she left her room and entered the kitchen, where dinner had been beautifully laid. Emma, Ariel and Eloa had already started, and froze when they saw her come in. She sat next to Ariel, her multicoloured hair was tied up in a beautiful braid, and started eating dinner. After a while of uncomfortable silence Emma touched her hand carefully and asked her if she was ok.
“I’m fine. What were you talking about” her voice was a little hoarse from not speaking all day, but nobody seemed to notice. “We were talking about... about you actually. We’re worried about you Di. Eloa told us about last night and-“ Emma’s voice was soothing, but she felt anger start to boil inside her. She sent a furious look at Eloa, who looked down at her plate “I don’t need you to be worried about me Emma” her words had so much hate in them that Emma let go of her hand “in fact, I don’t need any of you! Always with your nose in other people’s business, well, screw you!”
She stood up abruptly and went to her room, locking the door behind her. She kneeled down and buried her face in her hands, sobbing.
You’re stupid. They just want to help you and you’re treating them like shit. Diana curled up and covered her ears, but the voices didn’t go away.
I’m pretty sure they just want to hurt us. I mean, was it so hard for Eloa to keep her mouth shut? She probably just wanted to make fun of you. A princess crying, locked up in her room and playing with her knifes. I mean, who wouldn’t make fun of you?
You’re pathetic... An idiot...Disappointing, like always...
Diana looked at the knifes in her bed. It would be so easy... She was mortal now. She picked up the three knifes and threw them inside the wardrobe, then locked them up. Coward. She got close to the door and listened carefully; there was no sound. She opened the door carefully and snuck out to the last room, next to the bathroom. She knocked weakly and a “come in” came softly from the room. She entered and closed the door after quickly her. “Emma, I’m so, so sorry” She was laying in her bed and opened her arms. Diana hesitated, but in the end she snuggled in Emma´s arms. She started to hum a song and play with her hair, and like that, Diana fell asleep.
School started tomorrow, and Emma had started explaining everything to them. School started tomorrow, Monday, third of September. It starts at nine and ends at four, with a break al two for lunch. They were in something called ‘freshman year’, which, as Emma informed them, was the youngest course, she was in sophomore year, one above them. “Somebody will probably give you a tour of the school and explain the rules and everything.” After another half an hour of terribly boring lecture, Emma turned on a movie about a mermaid and went to the kitchen to make ‘popped corn’. Diana had no idea what that was, but she wanted to try it. A loud hum came from the kitchen, and the three step sisters huddled together. Diana was still mad at Eloa, but Ariel hadn’t done anything bad, so she decided to listen. “I’ve been investigating about the tattoos and have been practicing. I nearly did it this morning, a few feathers were left out, but I nearly have it mastered. So, you basically have to fold your wings so they fit on your back, they can’t stick out. Then it’s like de-growing your wings? I don’t know how to say it, but then the wings sort of melt into your skin and you have a tattoo. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s not a pleasant feeling.”
Emma came back with a bowl of white things and Diana stared at them with disgust “What are those?” Emma let out a little laugh “I already told you, It’s popcorn” she said cheerily. Diana took one and examined it “It looks like paper” “Just trust me and try it ok?” Diana popped it in her mouth, and the took a handful more. She sat on the carpet and paid attention at the movie. After a while she pointed out  that the mermaid was called Ariel, and they all laughed when Ariel rolled her eyes.

                                                 Chapter 9
Eloa
Eloa saw how Emma’s figure disappeared into the trees, and looked at her two step sisters; Ariel was taking sketches of a squirrel and Diana was growling at a dog, who growled back. Great, I’m stuck with the weirdoes, she thought bitterly. “Ok, come on, were going to explore a little bit” Diana looked at her with narrowed eyes “You don´t tell me what to do miss-perfect” Ariel let out a little laugh without even looking up from her sketchbook. She massaged her temples “ok, would you like to go exploring?”
“Yep” Diana winked at her, and Eloa rolled her eyes. Ariel let out a deep sigh and got up, but didn´t complain. They walked without speaking until they arrived to a fountain “Heeey look! It has an angel on top! Who do you think it could be?” Diana pointed at the top of the fountain and Eloa sighed “Yes Diana, now if you could stop being so childish...”
“Look! Bubbles!” the golden haired angel rushed where a man was making bubbles of all sizes and started popping them. Eloa was about to tell her of, but she saw how much she was enjoying herself; maybe it was fun. She could try... No. A real princess couldn’t be seen doing something so mundane and childish as popping bubbles. Thank god mother can’t hear my thoughts. Ariel sat on the edge of the fountain and started scribbling things on her sketchbook. Eloa sat down on a bench next to a mother “Which ones are yours?”
“The one drawing and the one with the bubbles”
“Oh. Aren’t they a little... old?”
“Yes. Yes they are” She let out a sigh and scrubbed her forehead.
They walked back to where they had met up with Emma, who was waiting with a tall and handsome man. “So, this is my boyfriend. Jacob, these are my roommates: Ariel, Diana and Eloa” She forced a smile over the pain. Wait, what pain? I don’t even like her in that way. I just think she’s pretty, I mean, I don’t even know her. And anyways, I can’t be in love with a girl, I need to marry a king. Oh, mother would be so disappointed in me... “Eloa? Are you there? Well, Jacob knows a cheap store for phones, so if you want we could go there and get you one?” Diana crossed her arms and looked at Jacob with suspicion “Why do we need a phone? And how do we know this isn’t a trap?” Emma looked at Jacob and smirked “Well, you need a phone to communicate, and I doubt Jacob will lure us into a trap” he smiled kindly and nodded, but Diana took out one of her knifes “Listen up Jacob, if this is a trap I swear I’ll...” the boy looked at the blonde with panic.
“Diana! What have we spoke about threatening people with knifes?”
“But Emma-“
“Diana!” She pouted “I must not threaten nice people with knifes” Diana mumbled, an Emma nodded “good. Now put the knife away honey” she did as she was told and returned the weapon to its original place. “Now let’s go get you some phones”
“what is a phone?” Jacob, who had not said a word and appeared quite shy, answered Diana “Well, its a little device with a lot of uses” Diana let out a little ‘oh’ and kept walking. They arrived to a store and bought three white boxes, and then headed home.
Eloa sat on the sofa with the box on her lap, and following Jacobs instructions, she opened it and extracted the little ‘phone’ inside. It was like a mini TV, but much lighter and thinner. “Ok, so now, press this little button here and you can give it to me” She did as she was told and passed the phone to Jacob. He passed the phone back to Eloa “So, I’ve added Emma’s number and your sisters, If you want to call, go in here” he pressed a little square thing that seemed to be inside the phone “and if you want to text, go here. These are called apps, and if you want, i can download a game for you” Eloa heard Diana’s voice make another question “You can play games in here? Like tag? I’ve never played with anyone” Eloa’s head turned quickly to look at Diana’s face. She didn’t seem to notice that everyone was looking at her with a mix of worry and pity. “Um, not tag, but yeah, other games” the room fell silence again. Eloa noticed how her stepsister was sitting in the carpet again, she had never seen her in the sofa, but why? She remembered on the feast day, the look of terror when her mother dragged her out of the table, but she was probably just scared because she was going to get grounded... right? But her mother looks so nice, she would never hurt her in any way. How can I even think of this? She probably just doesn’t like the sofa, and that’s it, she thought, but wasn’t fully convinced. An hour later of learning to control their new little TVs, Eloa headed to her room. Jacob was staying over, and Eloa just wished they wouldn’t make a lot of noise. She let herself fall on her fluffy bed, after putting on a light blue night gown. She covered herself with the blankets and closed her eyes.
A squeaking sound woke her up, and a fluffy snake with legs was looking directly at her. She muffled at scream and then noticed that its eyes were pink. This must be Diana’s transformed pet. No fair, mine hasn’t arrived yet. A whimper came from another room and Eloa felt tempted to cover her ears. I do NOT want to hear Emma and Jacob doing their things. Just... go back to sleep. She rolled onto her right side and closed her eyes, but the fluffy snake bit her ear “You little...!” she tried to grab it, but it jumped of the bed and started to scratch the closed door “yeah get out!” the white thing disappeared into the dark corridor, and then Eloa hear another sound. But it didn’t come from Emma’s room, but Diana’s. It was like a little cry; Eloa was going to close the door, but she heard scratching again. That little disgusting thing. She walked quietly and followed the scratches blindly. When she got there, she opened Diana’s door, and the thing entered. “Hello?” Diana’s voice filled the silent house, and Eloa entered her room.”Hey Diana. Are you... are you ok?” she sniffed her nose “Yeah” Eloa turned around to leave, but Diana’s shaky and scared voice stopped her “Could you- could you maybe stay until I fall asleep?”
“Sure.”

𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
                                           chapter eight
They ate breakfast in an uncomfortable silence, and when they finished, Emma took out some papers. “So, this is your school schedule; it starts at nine and finishes at four, with a lunch break on two. You will have to choose optative subjects, although in the obligatory you will probably be together. It starts on Monday, which is... in three days.” The girls nodded “Don’t we need uniforms?” Ariel asked, but Emma shook her head. “I’m going to take a shower” She walked out of the room and left them there “So what are we going to do with the wings?” Diana was the first to ask what the three of them were thinking “Well. I read we could turn them into a type of tattoos, but I don’t know if it’s true. We would have to practice, and I doubt we’ll have it mastered in three days” Ariel responded, and Eloa shook her head “Haven’t you unpacked the suitcase? There’s this weird harness. Doesn’t look very comfortable, but we’ll have to use it until we’ve got the tattoo thing mastered. How do we do it Ariel?” she frowned “Well, you just fold your wings as much as you can, they have to fit in your back. Then you just concentrate and... boom. Done.”
“Boom, done? What the hell’s that supposed to mean?” Diana said, and Ariel looked at her angrily “Do you have a better idea genius? I have to study a little bit more, but that’s all it said in the book I now have.” Diana looked at the floor, Ariel was trying her best and she was blaming it on her “C’mon, let’s go try the harnesses on” Eloa interrupted the tense moment, and they headed to her room. It was similar to Diana’s, but instead of golds it was blues.
“So, be honest, has anyone gotten their period yet?” Eloa asked, and Ariel and Diana both looked at her confused “No, why?”
“Well, when angels get their period, or ‘mature’ if you want to put it that way, they gain their full strength. They get lots of new abilities, and their wings are finally strong enough to fly properly. But, the first week, with all those changes, the wings start to twitch and they may use their powers accidently.”
“But we don’t have powers anymore, do we?” Diana asked, and Eloa shrugged “technically no, but I wouldn’t risk it. We’ll put the harnesses on and if someone feels... ‘odd’ she should stay at home, to not endanger the mortals.” Ariel and Diana nodded. Emma knocked on the door “Oh, here you are. Well, here you go, one key of the house for each. Don’t come home late, and if you’re going to sleep out, please warn me. Do you know your way around the city?”
“I don’t even know in which city we are!” Diana said indignantly. Emma sat down on Eloa’s bed, receiving a punishing look from her “Well, this is America, and we’re on New York. Where are you from?” The three girls shared a panicked look “We’re from... Antarctica?” Ariel’s statement sounded more like a question, but Diana and Eloa nodded quickly “That’s stupid. I’m not kidding, you can tell me... you can, right?” Diana sat down with Emma “Look. I know it’s hard to trust us just like that, but we can’t tell. We’ve had a hard life, that’s why we have so many questions, but it’ll hopefully get better now. We haven’t done anything bad, so you don’t have to worry about that, but we can’t tell a lot about us because... we have to protect ourselves, and you.” Emma looked confused, but nodded slowly. “Ok” she patted Diana’s leg and got out of the room, digesting the news, and closed the door. “So we’re sticking to that story, right?” Eloa and Diana nodded.
Diana heard a knock in her room “Di, we’re going out. You wanna come?”Emma’s voice could be heard through the door, and Diana nodded. Then she felt stupid, she couldn’t see her “Yeah, I’ll be ready in a minute!” She put on some short jeans and a golden, plain, off shoulder neckline shirt; Diana saw that two holes where in the back of the shirt. She popped her wings out and covered them with a jacket.  She hurried to the door and saw the three girls waiting for her outside. “Why do you always wear gold?” Emma wore a cute pink sweater and short jeans “It’s... It’s just my colour”
“What does that even mean?”
Ariel interrupted them “The elevator’s doors are going to close” They hurried inside and pressed the 0 button. The doors opened and they walked to the big glass doors. “Let’s go to central park, and that way you can learn a little bit more about the city.” Emma continued leading them through streets that looked the same, pointing out good stores and restaurants, and making them cross ‘zebra crossings’ until they arrived to the so called ‘central park’. At first sight it seemed marvellous. Just a little piece of nature decorating a grey city. Diana smiled and touched a tree’s trunk, the birds were tweeting and you could hear dog’s barks coming from far away. “We can meet here in an hour? I have to go see someone, I’ll present him to you when we come back” Diana looked at Eloa, her face was neutral “yeah sure, in this big tree in an hour.”

𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
A princess that wants to be a warrior. She and her two stepsisters "miss-I'm-pretty-and-perfect" and "artist-girl", must compete for the throne, but how? They're angels, peaceful and beautiful creatures, they can't just fight to death... or can they? To win the throne, they must survive  to four human years on earth. Who will be left standing?
                                                       chapter 1
Her mother tied the corset unnecessarily tight, just to have the pleasure of hurting her, “now listen up little brat, I want you to behave correctly at your presentation, ok? No wondering off, being disrespectful or saying rubbish at the table, understand?” She rolled her eyes “Whatever you say mother”
“See, this dress goes with your wings, spread them out.” She looked down at the dress. It was quite beautiful really, white with embroidered golden leaves surrounding her thin waist and little sparkles on the long, bulky skirt. Her mother slapped the back of her head “I said spread them you stupid child!” Still looking at her reflexion she opened her golden wings “That’s more like it! I’ll get Mercy so she can do your hair and makeup, dear” Her terrible mother walked out of the room and left her alone. She passed a shaking hand over her golden locks and looked at herself in the mirror. A fourteen year old girl looked back at her, with pale skin, golden hair, eyes and wings. It was extremely rare for angels to have their hair AND eyes the same colours as their wings, they normally just had one, but after all, she was a princess. Princess Diana Leliel, one of the three daughters of God, heiress of the throne, blah, blah, blah. She sat down on a stool next to the mirror and wiped her eyes furiously, trying to wake up from this horrible nightmare. Today was her presentation day, well all the kingdom knew her, she was always wondering around the streets as far away from the castle as she could, but today she would be presented formally. A cheerful woman entered the room, humming a lullaby and Diana smiled. That was Mercy, a beautiful woman that had nursed her when she was just a little chick, and that would always be more of a mother to her that that monster she shared blood with. “Hello dear, feeling nervous?” She had beautiful dark skin and hair, but her eyes were pink, just like her wings. “How are you doing Mercy? How’s the baby?” she extended one wing and Diana saw that the tips of the feathers where starting to get yellow, a sign of pregnancy in angels “Great. I think it’s a boy, but Arthur thinks otherwise. As if he knew what was growing inside of me.” Diana chuckled softly. “So, big day huh? Let’s get your hair done first darling” she worked carefully on a half updo. She looked at herself in the mirror, her long, curly hair looked perfect, but she couldn’t really concentrate. She wanted to be with Marcus, her boyfriend, training. That was what really inspired her, fighting, not these princess-queen-throne stuff. “Diana, are you there?” Mercy looked at her concerned through the mirror “Um, yeah, sorry, I got distracted. What were you saying?”
“Which shade do you prefer?” She showed her two shades of gold. “I don’t really care Merce, I just want to get this over with” She started putting on her eyeliner “How’s everything going with Marcus?” She smiled like an idiot and traced the golden leaves in her dress “He’s really great Mercy, I’m really glad I have him so I can escape this ongoing shi-“  Mercy eyed her threateningly “Language... Have you told him you love him yet?” Diana groaned “Well no. I mean I do love him, but i haven’t told him yet. Should I? What if he doesn’t say it back?”
“I’m sure he will dear, you’ve been friends since you were little chicks”
“What has that got to do with anything?”
“Well since you’ve got more trust and-“ Diana’s mother entered the room “Mercy out. What were you talking about?” Diana fell silent. Her mother didn’t know anything about Marcus, she wanted her to marry a prince, and instead she was dating the grandson of an archangel. “Well if you’re not going to tell me at least move, the presentation starts soon and we have to get you there early” Diana got up from the stool “Fine, but I’m taking noodles” as soon as she said the name, a pink blur entered quickly in the room “You are not taking this ugly and disgusting snake, I refuse! You should have just taken another pet, look at the other princesses! A grifflet and an elira, such beautiful and noble animals, but you had to chose... this” Her mother stared at her in disgust “Noodles is beautiful. And poisonous. So watch your mouth mother.” Her mother opened her mouth as if to say something, but closed it seeing that Noodles was showing her her teeth. “Do what you please kid. I expect you to come down to the hall in ten minutes.” Diana sighed with relieve when she left her room. She looked at Noodles, she was about one meter long and thin as her wrist. She was covered by a baby pink fur and had fins instead of feet, useful for manoeuvring in the air. Diana started to brush her fur, while she sniffed on the desk. “There’s no glitter here silly, but I have some in my drawer” Noodles looked at her and glided over to the little desk next to her bed, opened the drawer with her snout and grabbed a little jar of glitter. She returned to Diana and set the jar on her lap, then curled around her neck. “I’m going, I’m going!” Noodles was tickling her neck with her nose, and when she finally opened the jar, she dived straight for it. With all her pet’s face still covered in glitter, she went down to the hall. “I’m ready mother”.

𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
                                               chapter seven
The three girls rushed to the door, and standing there was a very beautiful and petite girl with beautiful green eyes and caramel wavy hair; Eloa was looking at her with her mouth open and Diana smiled to herself. Looks like someone made an impact, she thought with a little smirk. “Y-You’re not supposed to be here, you’re early” Emma looked at the three girls, and Diana noticed that her eyes had stopped on Eloa. “You’re the girl that we hit when we were entering” Eloa pointed a finger angrily at her, and Emma shrugged “Yeaaaaah, I was kind of in a hurry. So, can you guys introduce yourself? I mean, I was looking for roommates, but the weird guy that  called only told me that you were three girls one year younger than me.” So she was fifteen and didn’t know anything about our little secret. Fantastic. “I’m Ariel, this is Diana and she’s Eloa” Emma smiled and waved. She was about the same height as Ariel, and only a little smaller than Diana. Emma showed some groceries she had just bought “Sooo... help me?” they each picked up a plastic bag and entered the kitchen. “Where does the pasta go?”
“Up there” she pointed to a cabinet and Ariel put the pasta inside.
“And the fruit?” Eloa was examining a strawberry
“In the fridge?” Emma looked at her with confused expression and Eloa blushed. “I... It was a joke ok?” she said rather sharply, and Emma just nodded. They continued storing the aliments until there was nothing left. “Um, Emma, can I... can I take a shower?” Diana nervously tugged one of her curls, and Emma frowned “Of course, make yourself at home!” Diana rushed to her room and brought her luggage with her. She started unpacking it, until she saw something comfortable: an oversize peach t-shirt and golden training shorts. She hopped into the shower and took a lot of time untangling her long, messy hair, and then she applied her usual coconut body cream. She heard strange voices in the other room, so she went to check. The three girls were sitting in the sofa gawking at a thin and big, grey rectangle. She didn’t see the fun of that, but when she turned around to see it from  their perspective, she saw that there were images. Moving images. She looked at how thin the rectangle was, and then looked at the images again. “What is this?” Emma looked extremely worried “Why have the three of you asked me what a TV is?! Have you never watched television?!”
“So it’s a type of magic called tele vision?”
“No, it’s electricity, somebody recorded this, and they made a movie”
“movie” Diana savoured the word “MOVIE” she said it a little louder and the three girls looked at her, making pink blotches appear in her cheeks. “I’m just gonna- can I sit and see?” Emma patted  the seat next to her but she just took a blanket, pu it over herself and curled in the carpet. Her mother had never let her sat in the sofa, she always had to sit on the floor. She knew it was stupid, but she was afraid her mother would come and hit her if she sat in the sofa. What if I accidently scratch it? Or get it dirty? Emma crouched down and put a hand, making her flinch and back away “Diana, why don’t you come and join us in the sofa? Are you ok?” she tried to touch her again, but Diana got up quickly “I was- I should go to sleep” She carefully folded the blanket and headed to her room quickly, shutting the door. “Inhale Diana... Exhale” she repeated this to herself until she calmed down and sat on the bed “Where’s Noodles?” she looked around for her pett, but only a little white ferret with pink eyes appeared. “NOODLES? WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU BABY?!” the ferret run around and found a comfortable spot in her neck. Ok, this is definitely Noodles. She remembered god’s words: <<They will be allowed to bring one suitcase and their pets, although they will have to be... transformed when there’s human presence>>. “What are you exactly? You’re a furry snake with legs. And white.” Noodles looked at her curled up in her chest. “Yeah, we should go to sleep”.
The next morning Diana woke up to a sweet smell, and Noodles was on top of the studying desk, she was making a high piched noise and running around happy. “Noodles, please shut up” the ferret jumped onto the bed and then run all over her so she would wake up, the hopped back to the desk. “What do you want?” She stood up and saw a little plastic rectangle, with a foto of herself and a little name followed by numbers “Diana Lewis” “This isn’t me silly, i’m Diana Leliel. Did you steal this?” Noodles showed her something she had in her hands “A note?” She opened the paper and read the simple message <<This is your name now, Leliel isn’t a very common surname. Love, God>> “This guy’s an idiot. What’s this?” She held a blue card, but before she could say anything, someone knocked at her door. “Come in!” Emma popped inside and closed after her “Hey Di, can I call you Di? Well I’m really sorry about yesterday, and breakfast’s ready”
“Yeah, you can call me Di, and you didn’t do anything wrong yesterday, it’s... it’s just me. I’m wrong. But well, doesn’t matter, what’s for breakfast? And do you know what this is?” Diana showed her the blue card and she nodded “Yeah, it’s a credit card”
“What’s it for?”
“For taking money out of the bank”
“I can’t rob a bank with this. What is a bank anyways?”
“It’s a place where they store money. And that’s not for stealing, you put it in a machine and it spits out the money”
“For free?” Emma frowned. She diArid that a lot. “Well, not exactly, I’ll explain to you later” Diana nodded, and just when she was going to get out, Emma took her hand. “Can I... can i hug you?” she stiffed a little, not a lot of people had hugged her, and none had asked. She nodded and Emma hugged her warmly, she felt the urge to cry, to scream, to tell her everything, but she just hid her face in the crook of her neck. A nock interrupted both of them and Eloa looked at them scowling. “Breakfast’s ready”.

𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
                                              Chapter five
Diana woke up an hour later and hopped in the shower, cleaned Shannon’s clothes and sent Noodles to deliver them. She looked inside the closet, all her clothes were packed in a suitcase except one: a golden peplum and some black flared trousers hung perfectly from a hanger. She quickly put them on and tied her long, golden curly hair in a comfortable ponytail. She didn’t put any make up on, Mercy wasn’t coming today and she really wasn’t an expert on that stuff. Diana opened a trunk and took out a false floor, revealing a set of beautiful daggers and swords; she took three and stuffed them in her already full baggage, then carried it to the front door and sat down in the stairs, waiting. Soon, a yellow metal cage with wheels stopped in front of her doorstep, she got up frightened, but relaxed when she saw Eloa and Ariel in there two. An old man opened the front door and smiled at her, “May I take your luggage miss Leliel?” she smiled back but denied kindly, she didn’t want the old man to hurt himself. When the suitcase was secured, she opened the second door but didn’t get in, “something missing, Diana?” said Ariel mockingly, looking up from the beautiful sunset she was drawing “Everything’s fine Ariel, Noodles should be here in a second. Thanks for worrying” she replied with sarcasm. Noodles came a little while later, and Diana squeezed in the back seat, next to Eloa, who was in the middle; the lack of space was suffocating, and Diana had started to feel claustrophobic, so she tried to establish conversation with the driver “What’s your name?”
“I’m Jacob, nice to meet you. We will soon arrive to the border, where your immortality will be taken and stored securely in the castle.”
“Oh. And what is this thing that we’re riding?”
Jacob laughed softly “It’s called a taxi. A car, a vehicle.”
Diana looked out the window “oh”.
Ten minutes later, they had stopped in front an automatic barrier, and two angels dressed as police officers made them step out of the vehicle. They separated them and made them step into a strange and closed cubicle. The doors closed and Diana looked around, soon, she started to hear the sound of machinery and little, golden lights started to pop out of her skin, as if they were little fireflies. She shivered, it didn’t hurt, but she had a strange and cold feeling. When she stepped out, she noticed that she felt weaker than usual <<this is what mortality feels like>> she thought <<this sucks. I hate it>> They got into the car and the automatic barrier opened, and they passed.
Diana felt like she had been in the car for hours, they had passed tropical jungles with strange noises, cloudy play parks for chicks and little villages, until they finally stepped on clouds. They were driving on clouds. Incredible. But, as she got closer, she saw that the clouds came to an end, and the driver wasn’t stopping. “Jacob... Don’t you think you need to go a bit slower, since there’s a- um, a cliff right in front?” she sounded calm, but she was panicking inside. “There’s a WHAT?!” Ariel looked out the window and screamed. “Don’t scream in the carriage you idiot, we could crash!” Eloa flipped her raven hair back “Um, sir, could you go a bit slower please?” Jacob didn’t even look back, he just went faster “Nope” the cliff kept getting closer, and the three princesses kept screaming. When they reached the end of the cliff, instead of falling, they kept driving smoothly through the air. Diana let go of Eloa’s arm and she let go of her leg; they gave each other a murderous look and Diana continued looking out the window. Suddenly, her face reflected in the glass. Fuck. The wounds that her mother had made yesterday were starting to show, she wasn’t immortal anymore, and the wounds hadn’t quite finished healing. She had a broken lip and her cheek was turning purple-ish, and she felt a horrible pain in the ribs, but at least her wing felt fine. She traced her lips and looked at her finger. Red blood had stained them. Red. Her blood was usually gold, like the one from all angels and most mythological creatures, but of course, she was mortal now. Well, all angels were mortal, but they could live a long, long time. One angel year equals 182.5 human years to be exact, so right now she was 2555, but only 14 in divine years. The car glided swiftly through the sky, as if there were a trail invisible to (ugh) mortal eye. They landed on a dark alley and Noodles rushed out of the car and disappeared; Jacob helped them get their luggage out. “But couldn’t mortals notice a car coming out of the sky?”
“It’s quite complicated to explain miss Leliel, see, most mortals don’t believe in such things, so they just don’t see it. Their own blindness makes them ignore the most exceptional things, but if someone were to believe a car could come flying down from heaven, they would just think they’re mad, or having hallucinations. Mostly children give more trouble, but if they tried to tell someone, they probably wouldn’t be believed.” Diana was shocked, it did make sense. <<I never want to forget. I never want to stop believing. >> Jacob took out a flat rectangle out. “There’s a little dot in this map, which represents you. It will lead you straight to your house and explain some things when you get there. Bye, it’s been a pleasure!” He quickly mounted in his vehicle and drove off, which wasn’t really encouraging. Diana held the magic map and shouted “HOME!” a little circle started to spin, and then a red line appeared “route calculated” Diana screamed frightened “It speaks! The magic map speaks! Sorcery!” Eloa snatched it out of her hands “let’s just follow the red trail and get home” she pushed her bangs out of her eyes and started to walk straight. Diana looked around for Noodles, but she was nowhere to be see;, Ariel was looking at her, and her elira wasn’t there either, so she just guessed they would be fine. Ariel and her made eye contact, nodded, and followed Eloa.

                                              chapter 6
They all made sure their wings weren’t showing, and just when they were about to get out of the alley, a gang of men approached them. Diana instinctively put a hand inside her pocket, where she always kept a pocket knife. “Hey sweeties, what are you doing here?” The man that seemed to be the leader looked at them lustfully, and Diana stepped up, putting Ariel and Eloa behind her. He was really tall and muscular, bald hair, slightly tanned skin and pitch black eyes. “Back of dude. We just want to pass, that’s all.” The man smirked and looked at her up and down, his eyes gleaming like a kid on his birthday. “I’m sorry princess, but we want your money. And maybe I want you too, in my sheets.” Diana took her hand off her pocket, reached for her left boot and took out throwing knife, making the men laugh. She counted them; they were seven, including the leader. “Look. I’ll give you one more chance. Let us pass, and you will leave unharmed” she pointed at him with the knife and he let out a loud chuckle and scratched his hairless head “Um, no offense little girl, but do you even know how to use that? If I were you, I would put it down,  you don’t want to hurt yourself” he was mocking me. Diana made the knife spin in her hand, threw it in the air and caught it gracefully, then pointed at each of them. “Eeny” she pointed to a young man “meeny” she moved onto the next man “miny, moe, catch a tiger by the toe” all the men looked deeply disturbed as she continued singing, except the bold guy, who was just smiling. “If he squeals, let him go” she landed on a tattooed man and threw the knife, which landed right next to the man’s neck. He let out a scream and looked at the knife, but Diana had been careful enough for the wound to not be lethal, and the man fainted. “Are you finished?” the bald man’s smile hesitated but Diana lifted a finger to her lips, indicating silence “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe” the other men started backing off, and Diana had draw another knife from her right boot “Pig snout, you.” A man with grey hair took a step back and ran. “are” the young man looked at the other and run after him. “out” it landed on the boss “what now kid? You want to settle this peacefully in my bed? I can tell you’re a fighter, and I’ve always liked taming wild sluts” The man looked at what was left of the group, but nobody laughed, they were too busy helping his injured friend; Diana squinted her eyes “for the last time. We. Just. Want. To. Pass.” The two left men helped his friend up and fled, leaving baldy alone, who was starting to get nervous “I’ve reconsidered your offer. You may pass” they walked past the man and made the rest of the journey in silence, until they got to a building. “This must be our house. It’s not so bad” Eloa still looked traumatised about the alley, “I’m pretty sure this isn’t our house Eloa, it’s an apartment.” Said Ariel.
“A what?”
“Apartment. This building has several little houses in it, and you share a common space”
Eloa looked utterly horrified “So our house is even smaller than this?!” for Diana, who had spent most of her life locked up in her room afraid of her mother, this was a major improvement. “Don’t be so ungrateful Eloa, let’s go” they entered through the glass doors and run straight into a girl about their age, she mumbled a greeting and left through the doors they had just passed; Eloa frowned “that wasn’t very polite” Ariel elbowed her softly and they got on the elevator. “Where the fuck are we going? We don’t even know if this is the place!” just when the elevators were closing, noodles squeezed through the doors joined her owner “Noodles! Do you know where we have to go?” Noodles nodded and pressed the third floor. They all waited in silence until a “ding” startled them all. The elevator doors opened and they stepped out. A long corridor to both sides appeared, but Noodles leaded them to the right, until they arrived to a door that said “6B” in golden letters. Noodles dug under the mattress and showed a single golden key hiding beneath it. Ariel picked it up and introduced it into the door, which let out a light click and then opened slowly. The three girls stood there, looking at the living room in front of them. It was decorated with whites and sandy tones, a big, white sofa in form of an L took up most of the space; in front was a little table of the same colour, and a weird seat was hanging from the ceiling. A fluffy sandy mattress  covered the wooden floor, and a window that let in a lot of light led to a little terrace. Diana and Ariel tried to step in at the same time, but Ariel let her step in first “Take off your shoes” Said Eloa in a bossy tone, and Diana swallowed a sarcastic comment. They left their shoes and baggage in the entrance and started exploring the house. Past the living room, was a corridor, that lead to four individual rooms and two bathrooms, and next to the entrance was a door that led to a little kitchen with a table with four seats. Diana rushed down the corridor “There’s four doors. Ariel, Eloa, Diana and... Emma? Who the heavens is Emma?” Eloa and Ariel rushed through the corridor to see the fourth door “I bet we have to share apartment. I wonder if she knows we’re angels or we have to hide it from her, because if it’s the second, it’s not going to be fun...” Ariel spoke from her room. Diana peeked in and saw a very cute and coloured room with a studio... just before Ariel shut the door in her face. Diana looked at Eloa and headed into her room, also closing the door. A white double bed with beautiful golden cushions and canopy occupied the opposite corner of the room the door was; a white and golden modern desk sat on the corner in front of the door, and a big white wardrobe was on the right wall, next to the bed. Diana looked at the gorgeous and antique wardrobe astonished, it was the most exquisite piece of furniture she had seen. She approached a white dressing table and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked horrible, she had deep purple eye bags, and her ponytail was made a mess, but at least the wounds her mother had made weren’t that visible, only the broken lip. But she could say it was from the cold. She untied her ponytail, and her messy gold-coloured hair glistened with the window above her bed. She turned around and saw that her hair had reached her waist, she could even hear her mother’s words “You should cut that horrible bush you call hair, and maybe die it some better colour, like mine” ugh. Disgusting witch. She laid down and wrapped herself in the comfortable blankets, but just as she was drifting off to sleep, somebody opened the front door.

𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
                                                   Chapter 3
Warnings: parental abuse and swearing
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With her new golden dress put on, her hair up in an elegant bun and no trace of her mother, she got back on the carriage and headed to the feast. When she got there she looked around, it was a little valley surrounded by marble columns, with ivies climbing all over them. There were little glowing lights and a very long white table, where a lot of people were seated. The sky had gotten dark and the new moon was barely glowing, but she could see every head turned towards her. Fuck, I’m late, mom is gonna kill me, she thought, and by the look on her mother’s face, it sure looked like it. The centre of the table was illuminated by a glowing figure, God. To his sides were Eloa and Ariel, and Diana rushed to the empty chair besides Ariel. “Now that the last princess has gotten here, we have to make a few changes” Diana wished that God would continue saying <<We have cancelled the task, and the throne wont belong to anyone. >> but instead, he continued with a very different statement “Since we have lost a lot of time waiting for princess Leliel, we will talk about the task now, and feast later, that way, the ones who have to go can leave without missing out on the information. The princesses will leave tomorrow at first light, on a special transport so that they don’t get spotted by mortals. They have a little apartment near to the high school they will attend to, and which will be shown to them by the chauffeur. They will be allowed to bring one suitcase and their pets, although they will have to be... transformed when there’s human presence.” Eloa and Ariel nodded, but Diana just looked disgusted. She was disgusted. “That is all. No angelic things will be allowed, all that will be used is mortal technology” Everybody started to eat, and just before Diana could dig into a plate of sweets, she felt a tight grip on her arm. “Diana, dear, we should get home” She felt a rush of fear, her mother couldn’t hit her in public, but she could in private. She will hit her in private. “Umm, why don’t you go, I’ll stay here and talk to my dear stepsisters” the girls turned to her when they heard their names. “You’ll have enough time to talk to them tomorrow, but we should really get home now love.” Diana started to panic. Her mother wouldn’t forget she had been late, and she would get a punishment for that. “Please mom, let me eat and then we’ll go.” Her mother made her stand up “Mercy has probably made food, although she’s probably at her home now” her eyes sparkled with malice and she dragged her inside the carriage. “I would go flying, but I don’t want you to escape” Diana started to shiver and curled up as far away as she could from her, which wasn’t much, since the carriage was originally made for one person. The rest of the trip was silent, and when they got home, her mother dragged her out pulling her hair. She opened the house’s door and threw her to the hall’s floor, where she curled up, crying and trembling. “You show up late, embarrass me in front of everyone. Like you always do, you’re ungrateful, I had you, I fed you, I put a roof over your head.” Diana got up and tried to get up the stairs, but her mother chased after her and yanked her wings backwards, making her fall down the stairs “I should have thrown you in the garbage when you were little, maybe no one would have noticed, because in the end, you’re nobody.” Diana whimpered and saw that one of her wings was hanging in a strange position “If you weren’t a princess, you wouldn’t even have a name; you would live in the streets with the other angels of the low class. Those disgusting pigs, maybe there was a mistake and you’re not really my daughter, just a bastard from a poor bitch.” She kicked her in the stomach and Diana screamed “You’re an aberration” She slapped her and made her get up by pulling her hair “Now go to sleep. Tomorrow you will finally disappear, and hopefully get killed by a demon.” Diana wiped away her tears, run up the stairs and shut herself in her room. She secured the door by putting a heavy desk in front of it, but she knew she would not be able to sleep, she was terrified. When she had stopped crying, she noticed a tied rope was on her wardrobe and little thuds could be heard from inside. Diana approached the wardrobe wearily, and when she untied the rope, Noodles and a full suitcase popped out. Her pet rushed to her arms, and then glided majestically around her, stopping at her damaged wing. “Yeah, I think it’s broken too, we should go and see Deva.” She unlocked the windows and looked down “Like the old times Noodles?” Her pet seemed to nod and scurried out the window. She came back a few seconds later and purred “that means clear” she carefully slipped out the window, and started to descend. A loose brick here, a strong ivy that got her nearly down and a little pipe got her down easily, and she scurried into the stables “Spoke? Spoke, where are you? Noodles, light please” Noodles lit up instantly, and the pegasus stable was suddenly visible “Here you are boy” A beautiful black horse nudged her lovingly “Do you want to go for a ride?” Spoke had originally been a pegasus, but some rich monsters had cut of his wings just for fun, now Diana used him for road trips, since her mother refused to use him, she said he was hideous. “Come on baby” Diana undid her bun and got up on Spoke using a stool. She was quite little really, 1,60, Marcus always teased her about that. Marcus... just the thought of him brought tears to her eyes, but she didn’t have time. They galloped out of the stable, her long golden hair flowing in the window, and leaving her worries behind. Riding a horse was magical, she forgot of all her worries as if the wind blew them away, the only thing she could do to really escape her mother.

𝓓𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓒𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓜𝓮 𝓐𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓵
                                                    Chapter 2
Her mother eyed her carefully “You look less horrible than usual. Are you ready?” She nodded “Well let’s get going then. You aren’t carrying any weapons, are you?” She shook her head “Good. I’ll go flying, you take a carriage”. Angels couldn’t really fly until they had reached maturity, which normally came around at age fifteen or fourteen. Her mother walked out the door and disappeared in the sky, while her and noodles got inside a golden carriage tugged by white Pegasus. “Noodles, could you give me a little light please?” Noodles tangled around her neck and started to glow “Thanks” she got out an adventure book she had hidden under her seat and read for the rest of the journey. When Diana got there, a strong and manly voice introduced her, “Princess Diana Leliel, daughter of Lillian Leliel and God almighty.” She stepped out of the carriage and faced a long, red carpet, surrounded by angels of all classes, but they weren’t all together mixed up. Oh no, why would the highest class show equality? she walked through the carpet, first passing the low class. Angels with dirty and damaged wings looked at her with jealousy, but some kids looked at her with hope. They knew her, she had walked and played with them countless times, fed their families, gave them money, they knew she was kind. Next was the medium class: healers, lawyers, soldiers, designers... They were people with money, but to Diana they had always seemed like leaches, wanting more, and more. The high class was composed by people with more money and power, they always dressed perfectly, just in case they got invited to a tea party on the way to the supermarket she thought sarcastically. And at last the royal class. Everybody wore fancy clothes, and in front of her, sitting on a golden throne, was God itself. A vaguely human form made out of pure light. He had no face, hair or anything recognizable. He was like a shadow, but made out of pure light. Diana squinted her eyes and bowed “father” he nodded and she sat on a golden throne beside her mother and... Ugh. “Miss-I’m-pretty-and-perfect” sat perfectly beside her, with a smug expression and look of disapproval. Her glossy black hair shined, and her light blue tips were cut perfectly, she was wearing a long cyan dress and her blue tipped white wings were folded. A seventy centimetre tall bird sat next to her. It looked like it was wearing a blue coat, but when it moved, Diana saw it was actually its wings. A Grifflet. “Hello Eloa” Diana said sarcastically “Good evening miss Leliel. Having a good day?” Diana felt stupid immediately. She was so beautiful, so polite, so... perfect. “Yeah.” Noodles curled up in her lap and she stroked her distracted. Her other stepsister had just arrived. “Princess Ariel Jehoel, daughter of Augustus Jehoel and God almighty” a short and childish girl walked the red carpet, followed by her father, whose hand she was holding. She was about 1, 50 and had some blue stains on her hand. “Artist-girl” had made some of the best drawings in the kingdom, some of which were hanged in the king’s room. Multicoloured wings hanged behind her back, matching her hair and a curious fox-like creature followed her from behind. She sat down on the throne next to Eloa and the presentation began. “We present the three candidate queens: The oldest, Ariel Jehoel, the artist; Diana Leliel, the warrior; and finally, Eloa Harut, the perfect” they had all stood up and now headed to their father. He couldn´t get up, not anymore. He had been a good and strong king, but he had started to weaken, that’s why he chose to have three daughters. He needed a heiress. A very quiet and weak whisper filled the area, and everybody quieted down immediately “to  gain the throne, you must pass four years in the human world. Very few humans know we actually exist, and you shall only trust those who will not reveal our secret. Your powers will be very limited, and you will be mortal” Everybody gasped, and the three princesses had gone white “You will have to live together, learn to take care of each other and chose your relationships carefully. And you will attend to school” Diana looked around “Noodles, do you know what school is?” She looked at her confused and then hid underneath her dress “ok...” God spoke again “you will be given more information at the end of the dinner we will celebrate in two ours. Now go pack your stuff, you will be leaving tomorrow. I wish you luck children, remember there are still demons crawling around” They nodded and walked back down the carpet and into their carriages. Diana buried her fingers in her hair “Four years?! I’m not going to last four years with those idiots, Noodles!” she looked at her and tilted her head “Just forget it, I sometimes forget you don’t speak my language” Noodles licked her check with her purple tongue “We’re going to see Marcus and tell him about this ridiculous contest”. They arrived to a tall building, and putting a dark cape over herself, Diana entered. She stepped inside the glass elevator, and got to the sixty-second floor. Diana turned to the left, and stopped at the third door, where she knocked, but the door opened by itself. This can’t be. Marcus never leaves the door open, maybe something bad happened to him. Or maybe he’s just at training Diana, don’t be so paranoid. But when she stepped inside, she saw two naked bodies in the sofa “Marcus?” her attractive boyfriend looked at her with shock “You’re not supposed to be here” his fiery red hair was dishevelled  “Yeah no fuck” The woman under Marcus let out a giggle “Ummm” Marcus started to get dressed “So how was the presentation honey” “Honey?! Honey?! You idiot, you...” tears started to well up in her eyes “You’re cheating on me with this...” The girl had finished putting on her dress and  Diana saw that she had dragon-fly wings. “A pixie? Seriously, a pixie? That’s fucking disgusting Marcus, even for a filthy rat like you” The girl left the room, now it was just her and Marcus. “Diana, I’m really sorry, I really am, but since you’re too young, I just wanted to experience a little bit and... But I love you Di, I only love you” Diana got close to him, he was tall and muscular “That’s bullshit Marcus, and you know it. You’re only two years older than me, It wouldn’t have killed you to wait. But it doesn’t matter anymore, we’re done. Bye.” She hated crying in public, so she had to get out of there asp. “You’re not going anywhere.” He blocked the entrance with his fenix wings, but she easily bent down and dodged them “ta-ta you imbecile” he begged for her to stay, but she quickly got in the glass elevator and closed the doors. She didn’t make a sound until she reached the carriage, where Noodles was waiting, biting the curtains. She made sure every door was locked and every curtain was closed, and then she started to cry. Marcus, cheating on her, she did not see that one coming, that’s low even for you, destiny. There was only one hour left for the feast, so she wiped her tears and headed to her mansion.
