wada sez: This strip follows on from a gag in “Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)”, where Optimus Primal asks Rattrap to remove his junk from the commander’s quarters after being resurrected into a new Transmetal form. Seen in the cardboard box are Waspinator’s arm and Inferno’s mandible, while Primal’s desk has statuettes of the Axalon and a gorilla. On this very site, Ezekiel noted that this was probably his favourite of the Mosaic strips he wrote. See below for character studies by Hutfles and a preview panel.

Transformers: Mosaic #431 - "Con For The Job"

wada sez: Reeves has yet to go fully mask-off from our serial archive perspective, but Christ in a catsuit this is dreck. On deviantART, Reeves commented on Rodimus’ chin: “actually it was bruce campbells chin he stole. over on my da page ive got a transformers version of the evil dead 3 dvd cover that i drew in this style and i copied rodimus' head from that. although im glad i tried something new, i think ill stick to my own style rather then these 'lilformerish' designs. should leave lilformers to the one true master mr matt molen”. Because of course Reeves would rip off noted shitlord Matt Moylan. Apparently “spanking the monkey” is a euphemism for jerking off. This is the second time Wheelie’s met a horrible fate in a Reeves comic. Observe that the Matrix is on the shelf behind Arcee in that one panel- what am I even looking at? What content warning do I even put on this—cw pure shite? See, what drives me crazy is that reactions in the comments to this piece at the time were almost entirely positive, with Josh Perez of all people chiming in as the lone voice of sanity to describe it as “awkward and not funny”. See below for that Evil Dead crossover artwork because fuck me I guess.

wada sez: A fun little prequel to The Transformers: The Movie, foreshadowing Hot Rod’s nature as the chosen one. The shuttle referenced in the last panel is the one Hot Rod sees in his introductory scene.

wada sez: Skullcruncher’s bio by Bob Budiansky explains that he tips off his enemies by grinding his teeth, so this is a story about Skullcruncher tipping off the Autobots by grinding his teeth. The strip was actually translated into Italian by Franco Villa; see below.

wada sez: Perfect melding of story and artwork here. This is a rare story to play into the light-hearted tone of most appearances of the Dinobots in the Sunbow cartoon—though the characters are drawn as their original toys, rather than their cartoon character models. The strip’s title is likely an allusion to an infamous line spoken by Wheeljack in the Dinobots’ debut episode, where he claims to have given them “simple brains”. Sludge’s personality here is lifted straight from his original Budiansky profile—as is Gears’ surly attitude, he’s seen shaking his fist in the sixth panel. Evidently, Ironhide’s not happy with Slag fishing in the lake. Clean pencils, inks and colors below.
