hiiii! sorry I just saw this! I'm being sincere when I say I went in with relatively low expectations because I, like many, have very high standards for adaptations of stories I love, and I was FLOORED. I've seen Wicked live about 5 times. I practically know it off by heart. But I was moved so many times to tears during moments I've never cried in before because the care taken by John m Chu and co in how they adapted this is so exquisite. The production design made me GASP out loud so many times, especially during Dancing Through Life and the whole Emerald City sequences. Everything looks so other worldly and fantastic yet so tangible and pragmatic. The Shiz library is SO COOL. Cynthia kills it as Elphaba, especially her rendition of I'm Not That Girl and has delicious chemistry with Ariana and Jonathan Bailey. Ariana Grande really pulls out all her physical comedy chops for Glinda and she's absolutely brilliant. I truly cannot fault anything in this movie as a Wicked fan and even as a Gelphie believer. But honest to god what got me more than anything was the design of this film, from sets to costuming, it's magnificent. The detailing, the personality - truly had me hooting in every shot. do not listen to people who say the movie looks bad visually because it really doesn't it's so immaculate. My heart has been so full since I saw it on Thursday I'm so happy I love this story so so much it's like a friend to me and I'm so glad it's in a medium now where it's more accessible and in such a glorious fashion. I cannot wait to see part 2!
